Iphone4 with claro (peru) sim

Hi there,
in december i'm going to peru to visit some friend. One of my friends asked me if I had a spare Iphone4 because his is broken. He has a plan with Claro but is that going to work? I know that a Iphone has different models that can access different networks and all but I don't have a clue how this works.
My spare Iphone4 model is a 1387. That support GSM and CDMA networks. (well that is what the internet says). It hold a micro simcard and works fine.
But I have a t-mobile simcard. Not a Claro simcard from Peru.
Does someone knows if it will work? I go to Peru, give him my spare iPhone, he puts in the simcard from Claro and there you go? Or am I missing something?
Claro uses 3,5G roaming networking. (850Mhz). My phone supports that.I think I'm good?
My Phone I bought a time ago in Holland. I believe its simlock free because here all iPhones are and no carriers here block the phones. I tested it by putting a simcard from Telfort in it (while I bought it from t-mobile) and that works fine. Internet, calling, gaming, sms, facetime, imessage. All works good.
So can I expect any problem putting in a Claro simcard? Or will it work fine.

Yep. That would be a CDMA phone. It can only be used on the carrier it was originally sold for. CDMA iPhones don't use SIM cards.

I successfully unlocked an ATT iPhone4 with ATT SIM, then installed a TMobile SIM. After TMobile walked me thru some manual Setting changes, the phone works. However, now it keeps dropping service. Can I do a Restore with the TMobile SIM in it?

Nope. It still switches between service, 'no service', 'searching', and then I get service for a while. Very frustrating. I live in a 2G area, which I thought might be the problem, but had it in a 3G area today and still lost service randomly.
I guess I will have to go to the TMoblile store and ask for another SIM.
Any other suggestions?
They told me that if the phone was not a TMobile phone, they do not guarantee service.
This is a Pay-As-You-Go plan. Wondering if there is a compatibility issue with the iPhone hardware/firmware and the TMobile SIM?
My old TMobile Samsung t249 with the same plan did not have this problem.

no, you cannot. However, the SIM doesn't need to be active. An old deactivated SIM from the carrier to which the phone is locked (if the phone is locked) will do.

As peter says, this is evidence that your phone was previously hacked and was re-locked by the upgrade.
ONLY the carrier it is locked to can unlock it. There is nothing else we can suggest.

When i went to the US last February 2011, i purchased from Apple, Los Angeles three pieces of iPhone 4 (LOCKED) i was thinking that time that it can easily be unlocked, but it was a big big mistake. If i only knew from the beginning i should have not purchased this iPhone4 in US, but instead, i should have get a plan in one of the telecom carrier here in Saudi Arabia with was an UNLOCKED iPhone4. Actually, I used my iPhone4 for quite sometime using a GIVEY SIM. The time that Apple launched the IOS 5.0, the ICLOUD, i was amazed by the features so i upgraded it by mistake.... not thinking that it will be a big problem with my iPhone with the GIVEY SIM as it does not support it. So from then on, i cannot use it for phone anymore and what is the use of that if you cannot use it as phone. I felf so devastated when Apple published that there is no way to downgrade the Modem Firmware 04.11.08 to its original firmware as in the internet there is a lot of FALSE information and money making business. But then is it true that you can unlock our iPhone4 which was purchased there in US? I hope i heard it right. But HOW? Would appreciate if you could help. Kind regards.

The only way to purchase an officially unlocked iPhone is from an Apple Store or Apple Online. If you have purchased carrier locked iPhones from the US there is no way to unlock them, none of the 4 supported carriers offer authorised unlocking.

The process is contact your network supplier .
Ask IF they offer unlocking.
IF yes request the unlock and pay any fees requested.
Your network supplier then contacts Apple to request the White listing (Unlocking) of your phone on the iTunes servers.
Apple do this -It takes anything from 3 days to several weeks to complete.
On completion Apple confirms this back to your Network supplier (NOT YOU)
Your network supplier contacts you via email or SMS inviting you to connect your iPhone with your computer via the supplied USB cable and launch iTunes and follow on screen prompts through to the "Congratulations your iPhone is now unlocked" screen.
All these steps need to be carried out with the ORIGINAL SIM and by REGISTERED account holder used when setting up the phone.
Once the Congats...... screen has been reached you can swap out the REGISTERED SIM and replace with a compatible SIM on another network.
CAVEATS
Only the original SIM and Account holder can initiate an unlock- If you bought the phone used/second hand you CAN NOT UNLOCK through official routes
Once unlocked use of a Mobile Virtual Network SIM (For an unsupported carrier) may result in difficulties sending SMS messages.
You may have to go into Setting /Network/Cellular/Cellular Data Network and enter the correct settings manually.
Further caveat Cellular Data Network menu is SIM card dependant if its not supported you CAN NOT change the settings manually then you may need to contact the SIM card company - They can send a setup SMS if they support this process.

I will be visiting the Apple Store in NYC and was wondering if I could purchase one over there and bring it back with me? Would it work with an O2 sim and have the same functionality as my current iPhone 3GS?

If your iPhone is locked to a wireless provider, only that wireless provider
can unlock it. Contact the wireless provider in Hong Kong to see if they
offer unlocking and if you qualify.
If your iPhone is locked to an AppleID that you do not know, return it for
a refund as it is useless. Only the person whose AppleID was used for
activation can remove the lock. There is no workaround for Activation Lock.
If neither of the above is what you are facing, provide more detail so someone
may offer a solution.

I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 that I cannot get to work with a local SIM card in ANGOLA. I was told my phone would work with an overseas sim card. I need HELP. My phone will not use an ANGOLA UNITEL sim card for data. I believe my phone is still locked. What can be done??? HELP

APN is what has to be changed. APN stands for Access Point Name.
If you search for Angola UNITEL APN you will find several sites on line with the correct information you need to enter.
You enter the details under more networks in the settings menu, just keep digging until you find APN.
You do not need a rooted phone and all global phones are already unlocked.
It is very easy to do and should not have been difficult but it was. Now that I know how, I hope others with similar problems will find this posting

I guess I will wrap this up. I have abandoned iPhoto and viewing my Photo Streams using it and moved to Adobe products (Bridge + PS). So that's that.
