Iphone5 IOS7 update problem, build A1429, running IOS6.0 "not eligible for requested build"

Bought the Phone from Apple in NL, never been jailbroken.
Running IOS6, but am in UK.. Always have some issues with the app store because I'm listed in UK, dont know why.. But guessing its same as when i want to buy someone a gift card through itunes it says in the small pro=int that it can only be used in the UK Itunes store..
But my problem is that it keeps saying that my phone is not eligible for the requested build, and im not sure why..
can anyone tell me why?
thanks.

Errors 3000-3999 (3002, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, an old version of iTunes is installed, an entry in your hosts file redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see error 1004 above), or because of your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues. • IPad not eligible for requested build

    Dear apple support users,
I'm dealing with the following problem on my iPad, and though I already searched the entire internet for help, the problem is still not fixed.
A few months ago, the 4.2 GM version was released for developers, and because I wasn't able to wait for the official release i manually installed this 4.2GM version by manual downloading and option-click restore. This way I was able to manually select my update file.
Now, as 4.3 is already released for a few months of time, iTunes keeps showing me the message "This iPad (Name of iPad) is up to date", while it is still 4.2GM so not up to date.
I figured that the only way to solve this problem is manually installing the 4.3 update, so after a few Google-searches I was able to download the iOS update manually. I tried the option-click restore for a few times, and my iTunes tells me that "This iPad is not eligible for the requested build". Also when I try to option-click update, the same error is displayed.
The hosts file is untouched, and I checked the entries in this file. There are no entries concerning any apple websites. The device has no jailbreaking history and I've never used any hacking software like TinyUmbrella.
Can some of you please help me with my problem?
    Thanks!

    Dear Merlin37,
As already mentioned in my first posting in this thread, the hosts file is untouched. When I received your reply I double-checked and there are no entries containing gs.apple.com.
So unfortunately your reply didn't help much. I've already checked the forum posts you're referring to.
Does somebody know other causes of this error?

  • IPhone won't update to iOS5 - get error message "iPhone not eligible for ugrade""

I have an iphone 3gs and an ipad, and neither of them will update. I have lion on my 27" imac with all software up to date, and the devices wont update. I recieve error message "your device is not eligible for the requested update"
I have no idea what weird problem this is, but the devices didnt update before i had lion either. Also,  they didnt update to recent versions of iOS4, and I recieved the identical error message.
    Thanks, Cole

This usually means that the device has been unlocked, hacked or jailbroken. If you use iTunes and click the Update button to update you should never see this message; instead it will say that you have the latest version. Where did you get the update file you are trying to install?

  • OSX 10.8.5, iTunes 11.1, tried updating iPad 3 to 7.2(or 7.02) and it sent my iPad into "recovery mode" and iTunes can't fix because my "iPad" is not eligible for requested restore build... HELP!

does anyone know how i can fix this issue? i have tried using iTunes 4 times to restore it and still no luck... this is really frustrating!!

issue resolved on 10/06/2013... the problem was with my iMac's terminal ID in the update. After a few minutes talking to a specialist, we resolved the issues by placing a space, " ", where my computer ID's address was located.
after asking about whether or not to update so fast with an "older iMac" (early 2008) i was told to, "stop being the test dummy and let others instigate new OS issues."
i was told apple knows about software updating problems but is hard to universally make the new iOS work perfectly with older macs...

  • HT201442 device not eligible for requested build

I tried to update wirelessly and it went into recovery mode. I found two gs.apple.com entries when I go into terminal: sudo nano /private/etc/hosts. Is that because I have had two iPhones? Would deleting one help? They also already have # symbol at start but no 'space' IE:  #17.151.36.30   gs.apple.com
One entry has different digits like the apple example, the second has two 0s  eg: #354.0.0.1
Thanks in advance for your time

The only reason for that entry to be in your host file to begin with is if the computer was used to jailbreak or attempt to jailbreak an iOS device.
Try doing the update with a "clean" computer.

  • Problem updating IPAD with itunes: "this device is not eligible", Problem updating IPAD with itunes: "this device is not eligible"

    Dear All,
I have tried to update my ipad from ios 4.2.1 to ios 4.3.3 but this time itunes return me an error: "this device is not eligible". Now my ipad is not working (black screen, always in DFU mode).
My mac is up to date (same for itunes)
have you ever have this error ? How can I do to update to io 4.3.3 ?
    Thanks for your answers.

I also have the same problem. I updated the iTunes and I get the same message when updating my iPad2.
"This device is not eligible for the requested build".  This message appeared on two separate update attempts.
    What is to be done?
    Thanks for any yips.
I could leave it alone since the iPad seems to be working fine and perhaps should wait for the next iOS update

  • Problem with IPad , did an update as requested now it does nothing, but display a graphic that shows I should connect to ITunes . So I connect it to my IMac run ITunes nothing happens. Try restore pop up says not eligible for restore.

Wow what a pile of crap you must wade through to ask a question .
Ok so the problem is I did an update on my IPad and now it does nothing but show a graphic showing the power cable connecting to ITunes
So  I connect iPad to my IMac and prompt iTunes nothing happens. So I try sinc nothing happens.
So I try restore and the popup says I am not eligible for restore.
What is going on with this stupid machine

Machines are incapable of being stupid. Not so of their operators.
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

my iphone 4 8gb is not updating or restoring to ios6.1.3 its shows sum error (21) or your iphone is not eligible for this build

    Read this for error 21
    Error 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36, 37, 40
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.

  • IOS 5.0.1 update on an iPhone 4S:  "not eligible for the requested build"???

I just connected my iPhone 4S to iTunes and clicked "update".  It downloaded the update (took about 10 minutes), and then reports:  "The iPhone could not be updated.  This device isn't eligible for the requested build."
I thought the iPhone 4S was the main target audience for this update?  (though actually, I haven't had battery life issues with 5.0 on my iPhone, by my iPad 1 has had the auto time zone problem from the moment I updated— so I'm actually hoping for it more for the iPad than the iPhone...)
Is there something else coming eventually for the 4S ??

Over the air worked for the iPhone— but why shouldn't the iTunes update work, too?
I get the same error (not eligible) for my iPad 1 in iTunes, but I can't seem to do an over the air update on that one, because after downloading, it just says "Software Update Failed: An error occurred downloading iOS 5.0.1".  I don't know if there are different servers for iPads vs iPhones, but I guess I'll just wait and try the iPad later. (ironically, it was only the iPad, not the iPhone, that had any battery issues with iOS5, due to the auto time zone thing.  The iPhone was fine, so the update was less urgent for it anyway...)
Anyway, that's now an iPad problem, not an iPhone problem!

  • New iOS7 update won't let me restrict iTunes radio/images for my kids. Help?

The new iOS7 update won't let me restrict iTunes radio/images for my kids. I've never had this problem with Apple before. I've always had the ability to restrict the iTunes store, and anything else I needed to restrict. I'm not a religous nut, I just don't want my kids looking at some of that stuff. I'm really disappointed with this feature. If anybody has any help I would appreciate it! Switching music to clean only blocks music, not album covers and artist pictures. I've always loved the parent friendly features of Apple. I hope they fix this soon! My family loves Apple, and I don't want to have to switch!

Hi. Yes I've looked all through restrictions and there is nothing that will block it. This is weird. Apple usually always thinks of this stuff. Usually they provide ways to both choose a parental level or block it from being used all together. I can't do either. On some of my devices I want to restrict what I'm seeing/hearing from iTunes radio but on some I want to block it all together. I've been all through restrictions and there is no option for either.

Most often due two one of the following.
1 Install current version of iTunes, older Macintosh Systems will not support current version of iTunes, make sure you have current version of iTunes.
    Or
2 Your computer Hosts file is blocking Apple from communicating with iTunes. To determine this, search Hosts on computer, then open Hosts file with a word processor. If the Hosts file contains this, gs.apple.com it is blocking Apple. This line with its number must be inactivated (removing it works). A stock Hosts file does not contain this or block Apple.
Here is Apple information on this problem:
"This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
