Iphone5 - safari is set touse google search, but redirects to a bogus site

When i use the web search in safari, it normally goes to google and displays my results. However, a few days ago it started sending me to a yahoo page that says 'this page cannot be found'. And when I try to enter the URL for google, it takes me to a google look-alike, but it isn't actually google. Nor does the page work.
Search works fine if I set the phone to Yahoo or Bing, but I much prefer Google. And frankly, I'm concerned I may have gotten some sort of iphone malware...

• Have Firefox home page set for Google search, but each following tab opens w/Yahoo search instead. How do I remove the Yahoo and have Google home page on every tab????

As I said above: I Have Firefox browser home page set for Google search, but each following tab (but suddenly now it) opens w/Yahoo search instead. How do I remove the Yahoo search off the added tabs and have Google home page/ blank tab (like it used to be) on every tab????

The new Firefox Start Page - '''about:home''' - isn't the same homepage that was used in earlier versions of Firefox - http://www.google.com/firefox There is no "setting" for the "Search Container" on the about:home "page" - in the Options UI or in about:config .
Set that old "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" as your "homepage".
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
Or open your Profile folder and delete the '''webappsstore.sqlite''' file and hope the "Search Container" on the about:home "page" returns to Google. When it '''''is''''' Google, the Google logo appears to the left of the "Search Container"; when the search engine there has been changed to something else, there is no logo to the left of the "Search Container" - AFAIK.

• Safari default set to Google. but keeps defaulting to Bing.

In Safari preferences my search engine is set to Google. But keeps defaulting to Bing. Is this a Microsoft conspiracy?

It's usually due to Genieo/Installmac adware.
safari defaults to using bing even though I have google as my setting in preferences.

• I have all tabs set to open with Google search, but when I open a new tab and start typing, the letters appear in the address bar and not the Google search bar. It didn't used to be like this!

Firefox 9.01; Windows 7 64 bit;
One of my set of home pages is the basic Google search page. When I open this, I can immediately start typing and the words appear in the Google search box.
If however I open a new tab (white cross far right of tab bar) and start typing, the words appear in the address bar, not in the Google search box. Of course once I click in the search box I can carry on: but I'd like to make it start there as it does with the homepage.

If you want a specific webpage (like the Google page) to always open when you open a New Tab, you can use the following add-on to Open New Tabs with your Favorite Pages:
-> NewTabURL 2.2.3
* https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/newtaburl/
* NewTabURL will not work until you set the page that you want to open in the Options for it.
* click Add-ons > Extensions, click Options next to NewTabURL.
Check and tell if its working.
Not related to your problem but do the following:
-> Update Firefox to the latest version 10
* [[Installing Firefox on Windows]]
-> Update All your Firefox Plugins -> https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
* '''When Downloading Plugins Update setup files, Remove Checkmark from Downloading other Optional Softwares with your Plugins (e.g. Toolbars, McAfee, Google Chrome, etc.)'''

• How to set up Google search in Firefox to closest resemble how I use it in Chrome?

1st) I go to https://www.google.com/ncr [No Country Redirect, see: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/873?hl=en]
2nd) My setup how I search on Google in Chrome by default is the following:
https://www.google.com/search?q=%s&hl=
If I want to search on No Country Redirect land, I simple press Ctrl+E [which brings me to default search] and enter my [search term], which will result in: https://www.google.com/search?q=search+term&hl=
Now if I want to search in a specific language (which I often need) other than English, some easy modifications:
For example, German: https://www.google.com/search?q=search+term&hl=DE
For example, French: https://www.google.com/search?q=search+term&hl=FR
That's it.
I don't understand what are these lots of [aqswdefrgthyjukiolkijuhygtfrdesasd] long strings in the default Firefox version of Google are, and why I should trust them? You might get a kickback for that from Google but sorry, that's not my business. :(
[Philosophical question: why are simple things in Firefox so much more complicated than in Chrome?]

Firefox doesn't have a handy built-in interface for editing search strings. Instead, it uses search plugins, small .xml files based on the OpenSearch standard. You can find these files on the Add-ons site, on the Mycroft site (example: [http://mycroftproject.com/google-search-plugins.html]), and elsewhere. Many sites offer them, in which case a green + appears on the icon in the search bar.
You also can create your own custom search plugins. If you open the standard google.xml plugin in Firefox or IE as a page*, you can see the categories of data it contains. Most of it is encoded icons (using encoded icons means Firefox doesn't have to link out to a site to fetch the icon, potentially introducing a tracking issue). Toward the end you see how the query is constructed.
For example, if you search for Firefox using the standard Google plugin, the results page is:
https://www.google.com/search?q=Firefox&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
You can see from the plugin how this is constructed (toward the bottom):
<Url type="text/html" method="GET" template="https://www.google.com/search" rel="searchform">
<Param name="q" value="{searchTerms}"/>
<Param name="ie" value="utf-8"/>
<Param name="oe" value="utf-8"/>
</Url>
And if you wanted to change that, you could copy and edit the file to your preferred parameters. Interested?

• Clicking on a link opens google search but on second or third click it opens the link as it should

Whenever i click on a link it opens as google search page not the link it should, it usually works OK on the second or third attempt, noticed the problem primarily in facebook as that's what I use most but has happened with links in other pages.

• While surfing web too many website redirect occurs on safari as well as Google search. I am using wifi. This problem not there on my pic which is connected through wired modem

While surfing web too many website redirect occurs. I am using wifi. some times it redirects to sexual sites some times to App Store. I tried after deleting history and cookies also. I am using safari and Google browser. I changed router configuration and password but problem still exists.

Hi! Thanks for your quick reply.
A few things happened since I've posted this.
1)I've deleted all the history and cookies from my macbook safari and when I opened the website with the issue, the problem did not happen this time.
2)Seeing this, I've deleted my history on iPhone's safari and opened the same website but the problem was there again.
3)The problem does not happen on iPad.
So, I do not have the problem at all on Google Chrome but on Safari (now just on iPhone)
Is this still about my router settings? If so would changing my phone DNS settings would suffice? Or do you think the problem might still remain on my computer as well?
This is so frustrating for a person who does not know anything about technology at all
Thank you!

• Smooth Scrolling has stopped in Google search but only Google search, how can I fix, thanks

There are scrolling 2 modes in Google search as far as I know one which I have always used which is smooth scrolling and the other where it jumps to the next site individually. Somehow after an update or something Google search on Firefox has stopped smooth scrolling. I also use safari and google search still smooth scrolls there.
Anyway in advanced smooth scrolling is checked.
If you are able to help please let me know.
Thanks

• Safari font specifically in Google search is way too BIG

The font in Google search is way too big. Only in Google. Other websites show normal fonts. Did someone encounter such problem? Please help me! Thank you!

Hello How Goes It,
select the cells you want to have no margin and choose the text inspector of the infopalette and the text tab button. At the bottom is a slider and a number field. There you can adjust the margin thickness.
Frank.

• When I click on a result of a Google search and then go that web site, the Back button on the toolbar is grayed out and I cannot return to the search results.

When using FF3.6 and making a Google search, when I click on a result and then go that web site, the Back button on the toolbar is grayed out and I cannot return to the search results without going to History. This does not happen all the time; about 1/2 of the time.
This problem is not limited to Google, but occurs with other sites as well.

If you are talking about searches from - http://www.google.com/ - are you logged into a Google account all the time? If so, check your "Search Settings" from the "gear" in the upper-right corner of that Google search page and see if you have '''Open search results in a new browser window.''' check-marked, at the bottom of that preferences page. When that is check-marked and you have Tab options in Firefox set to '''Open new windows in a new tab instead''', you will get search results always opening in a new tab instead of the same tab. As to why that works different for "sponsored links" I don't know, I haven't seen the "sponsored links" for years now, I have a GM script that blocks those advertisements.

• Google Search Link Redirect

I might be paranoid, but i just did a google search for a website and was redirected to another site after clicking on the google search link.
I tried going directly to the website by typing the name in the browser and it worked fine. A did a google search again for the same wesbsite, clicked on the link like before, and it worked fine like normal. Other google searches seem to be fine.
Do I have something to worry about as far as malware or viruses on my computer, or is it possible google, or the website I was trying to go to, is infected? Or, is it nothing?
I would really appreciate any feedback.
Thanks.

I would not be to worried about it, perhaps a glitch in the search engine. You could reset Safari if that is the browser you use, just read the list of items it resets and make sure you are happy to remove that information.

• How to make google-search to redirect to first result (automatically) ?

Hello,
I have just installed the latest version of FF on my windows 7.
When I search using google-search by either:
1. Writing somethong in the adress bar and pressing enter
2. Writing something in the search box (thats on the same line as the adress bar)
I am not being redirected automatically to the first result.
How can I change it so that I will go to the first result automatically after pressing enter ?
Thanks in advance for the help!

hello belgiamit, you can do it for the address bar the following way:
enter '''about:config''' into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up), search for the preference named '''keyword.url''' & double-click and set that entry to
http://www.google.com/search?btnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

• Google searches being redirected to ad sites

Just since the last update of Firefox, many of my Google searches for episodes of my favorite TV shows present the proper site (usually wikipedia), but when I click on the link, I'm sent to random advertising sites. It's driving me crazy. I've run Malwarebytes, and Spybot Search and Destroy, and they have cleaned me up, but I still get the same garbage. How can I get rid of this stuff without dumping Firefox altogether?

Such a redirect is usually an indication of a malware infection.
So if using the above listed scanners does not fix it or if you are blocked from installing those scanners then it is best to ask advice on one of the forums that specialize in malware removal mentioned in the Popups_not_blocked article.
