okay so just now i tried to slide the button so my phone will take me to the home menu. it wont respond. and i looked online and pepole were saying oh turn it off that will help. but you have to slide a button or push something to make it go off and i cant do that. what do i do>>????????:???????

    Try a hard reset
That's called a phone reset.  There is no "hard" (or "soft") reset in iPhone terminology.  See the User Guide, Appendix B.  The on/off and home buttons should be pressed for at least 10 seconds.

  • Slide to unlock wont work

My slide to unlock wont work on my iphone 3gs.I have tried to reset it. It won't slide to power off. It won't let me answer calls or texts but I can adjust the volume on the side buttons. Please help.

Okay--listen everyone--I actually have a fix for this.  I am so happy to help, because I know how frustrated I was!
I have a iPod touch 3rd gen.  The screen slide was stuck in the lock position.  Over the course of the past three months I have tried the following with no success:
1.) Reboot (holding the power and home button simultaneously)
2.) Restore (both types--yes, I did the hard, factory reset) SEVERAL times.
3.) I pushed on the screen in every corner, sometimes very hard.
4.) I tried giving several voice control commands.
Everything I read on line (I've spent several hours researching), said the only thing I could do was bring it in to the Apple Store Genius Bar--they priced the labor at about $150!  For which I could buy a new one.  Then I remembered something CRAZY I had read a while back--I wasn't even sure I remember the correct order or even the explanation.  All I know is that it WORKED!  This is what I did.
a.) I put the iPod in a ziplock bag and pushed all the excess air out before sealing it.
b.) I put it in the freezer over night!  (Crazy, right?)
c.) Then about 24 hours later, I took it out--it was frozen solid--and tried to power it up.  No luck.
d.) I immediately put it under the hair dryer on high heat, high air.  About 20-30 seconds from, then the same for the back.
e.) I tried to power it up; the Apple icon appeared!
f.) While it was powering up, I kept the air on it, rotating front and back--It got hot.  (I stopped after 1 minute.)
g.) When the home, configure screen reappeared, I was able to slide the slick, and re-configure!
h.) I've restored a previous back-up off my iTunes account, and the iPod is working again.  Resurrected!
If memory serves, the explanation I read is that many of the apply devices have an internal shutdown switch before they fry or freeze in extreme temps.  My guess is that the shutdown forces and internal reboot.  All I know is that after trying EVERYTHING ELSE--this method worked.  I did this on 18 October 2014.

  • Have to lock twice...in order for "slide to unlock" to work!

I have not found anything similar to my issue so I'm posting this hoping someone can help me!
My iPhone 5S works fine, however I have the following situation...
When I hit "Home" to unlock, I will get the "Slide to Unlock" message, but the screen is non-operational.  I cannot slide to unlock, use the camera, nothing works.
I have to "Lock" the phone again and then hit "Home" again.  Now everything works...
This is the same everytime...first time I try to slide to unlock, the phone doesn't work at all.  I have to re-lock andn then hit home again to get it to work.
Any ideas on what I need to do?
    Thanks!

I believe this matter needs clarifying.
The computer DOES NOT need to be on for homesharing to work.
Obviously if the computer isn't on then any services on the Apple TV which rely on homesharing to the computer, such as playing content from the iTunes library will not work, but homesharing with any other device WILL continue to work.

  • Slide to unlock not working but I can slide to answer calls (power button broken) HELP!

Can anyone please help? 24 hours before my upgrade is due and my iPhone 5 has decided it won't let me slide to unlock...I can slide to answer a call no problem weirdly so Im thinking it isn't a fault with that part of the screen? My problem is compounded by the fact that the power on/off button hasn't worked in a while. this hasn't been a major issue until i am now trying to at least back up and then restore my phone. I can't enter the passcode to restore it! And i can't try lots of the suggestions I've seen which is holding the home and power button together as my power button doesn't work. I can't even sell the phone as faulty at the moment as i have no way of getting all my data off it!

Take the device to Apple to address the hardware issue.

  • Slide to unlock not working

Ipod 2nd Generation, Slide to unlock is not working - Ipod is not reponding to "sliding".  I've tried a soft reset but it still won't slide to unlock.

You probably encounter the same problem then mine. The problem is not hardware but software due to a bad update by Apple. MIne was working perfectly... I repeat perfectly... No bugs and no problem at all and just after I decided to update the OS it stop working!
I did try all those tricks... restore, factory restore,... even go to the App Store where they tried to push me to buy a newer product or to pay for a fictional repair since the issue is not physical. It doesn't have a scratch or even a single drop of liquid... It was a careless update. A way to push people like me and you to throw their old iPod Touch into the garbage. The only solution will be to find an older OS but it seems to be impossible to find.
For sure I will never buy a Apple product again !

  • My slide to unlock wont work  help

my iphone slide to unlock wont work

TJBUSMC 1973 - I had thought that all of your comments were very sensible but I have has the same problem that deuce78 had. Bought a new iPad 2 just before Christmas, managed to set it up with passcode etc and now everything has frozen. Tried everything within my limited knowledge and was unable to resolve. Phoned Apple helpdesk and a gentleman be told that yes, they would be able to help with a reset as and asked me to wait for a minute or so. When he returned he told me that I would need to pay around £80 for a twelve month software support package. I told him that I do not want this, just an answer to the problem that I was having with a brand new product. He categorically told me (and I am being totally honest here and not exaggerating) that in that case he could not help me. I stressed that it is a brand new iPad and that I had added no apps or software, it had just stopped working on the first day that I tried to use it and that surely if they could talk me through a solution they should do so free of charge. To this there was a straight no, I asked if there were any other options or another number that I could ring, and again was told no.
So which is the truth that will set us free?
I am off tomorrow on a 30 mile round trip to the Apple store to get my iPad replaced when it sounds like it could have been sorted over the phone!

  • My new Iphone 4 will not SLIDE TO UNLOCK.  Worked when i left the store yesterday not this morning.

I can't get in to the phone.  Bought it yesterday at the ATT store, worked, went home loaded apps and what not, worked, played a game, worked.  Slept alarm worked in the morning,  used Stitcher app on the way to work.  at work at about 8 am would not unlock.
    Iphone 4 8g.
When i try to power off the slide to turn off does not work either.

Try restarting your iPhone by holding down the on/off and the home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo.

  • IPhone 4 factory unlock doesnt work

    Hey Apple Community,
i have a big problem. My iPhone 4 was locked to Vodafone UK. I told the guys from Vodafone to unlock my iPhone this costs me 20 pounds. Yesterday i got an e-mail which says they checked my unlock status at apple and its unlocked now. In the e-mail there was instructions what i have to do. So i just plugged in my iPhone with a sim which was never used with this iPhone before. It says the sim is invalid for this iPhone. Than i made a restore with the original sim card, but i got the same problem no unlock. What can i do? Sorry for my bad english

The sim needs to be from a carrier other than Vodafone ,it should also be a microsim from an Approved Apple carrier
If you are in UK  and you achieved an unlock you will know who they are however  Virgin is not list below

The home button is the main button off the screen - where is the sleep button?  When I hit home I only see the lock slider (its black) and a button that has a flower on it that pulls up photos we took that are on the ipad.  Thanks for your help!

  • Slide to Unlock Does not respond.

I have the new iPad.  When I turn it off and then back on, the slide to unlock does not respond.  However, when I do slide it and wait a little bit, it does unlock.  Is there anything I can do to get the slide to unlock to respond?

I have the same problem as dberkovich and I too did resets, restores, reboot, etc.  Still acts the same.
    Power up iPad (3-new)
slide to unlock is frozen, lights do not move in the background,
wait 10-15 seconds, screen goes black
push home button and slide to unlock is working perfectly.
This occurs everytime after complete power off and then back on.
Took it to a Mac Store,(not Apple store) and representative said "We've never heard of this and it may be software and you should take it to an Apple store."
Fact:  My nearest Apple store is about a 3 hour drive each way with even no traffic.
This problem occured when my software was updated with IOS6.

  • My iphone 4 is frozen on the slide to unlock screen. ive tried the sleep/awake button home button but it doesnt work can someone help me :)

my iphone 4 is frozen on the slide to unlock screen. ive tried the sleep/awake button home button but it doesnt work can someone help me

By the slide to unlock screen, are you talking about the slider at the bottom of the screen after taking out of sleep mode?
And by trying the sleep/wake button and home button, are you talking about a reboot by holding both the power/sleep button and the home button until the apple logo appears and it reboots?  And that does not help release the issue with the slider?
Are you sure the iPhone is well charged?
If none if this helps, have you tried syncing/backing up to a compter and then restore by iTunes on a computer?
If you cannot do any of this it would be good to schedule a visit to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs try their hand and diagnostics.
