IPhones - can they connect remotely to iCal server?

Can I take an iPhone and have it access a server based iCal server? If so how?
Also, if users have remote laptops, OS X Leopard, that are never brought into the office, how can they be set up to access and use the iCal server?
Thanks in advance - Lewis

correct. there's no need to port forward if clients connect via vpn.
you'd configure the remote clients just the same as you would for clients on your LAN, because they'd essentially be on your network over the vpn tunnel anyway. do you mean how would you configure these machines remotely? i'd start by working out a test config, writing up a how-to for your remote users to follow and use screen sharing/ARD if they can't get it to work. test this yourself before rolling out to clients.
that long string in the calendar URL is the user's generated UID in the open directory node. you can use that, which is harder to type, or something like http://calendar.example.com:8008/principals/users/shortname/calendar/
both should work.
for group calendars, you'd use: http://calendar.example.com:8008/principals/groups/name/calendar/

  • After updating to 10.6.7 I can't connect wirelessly to iCal any ideas?

    Hi Everyone,
Here is my problem, I have an ipod touch and an iPad that I have been able to connect to my iCal server, and update everything just fine. After I updated my server to 10.6.7 I can't connect to my iCal Server. Funny thing is I can connect with my 2 mac mini's that are hard wired and my Macbook Pro which is wireless. For some reason its just the 2 portable iOS devices that can't connect. I haven't changed any setting at all. Of course I use my portable devices to access my calender the most when I'm on the go. Any ideas would be great! As always thanks for any help in advance. Also if you need any config info let me know and how to do it. I know very little about command line.
    Thanks
    Kcam1999

    Hi Kcam
Have you also updated your iOS devices to 4.3.2?

  • What is required to Exchange integration work - (Can't connect to Exchange Web Server)?

    Hi guys,
We have just 'beaten' our Lync installation until it decided to work with mobility, however the clients (IOS) complain that it "Can't connect to Exchange Web Server". Entirely possible its our own fault!
    My question is:
What exactly do I need to configure to make this work?
    DNS records,
    Firewall rules,
    etc.
    We are running:
    Exchange 2010 on-premise
    TMG 2010
    Cheers
    Dave
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
The Lync 2010 mobile client for iPhone and iPad has a Meeting tab that lists meetings for the day from the Exchange calendar.
The client uses simple Exchange Autodiscover processes to determine the location of the Exchange server of the user who is signed in. The SIP Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) of the user is used in the attempt to discover the Exchange Web Services (EWS) endpoint.
However, if the user’s SIP URI and email address are different, the Autodiscover process will fail, the Meeting tab will be blank, and Exchange Unified Messaging (UM) voicemail in the Phone tab will not sync.
For disjointed email and SIP URIs, the Lync 2010 mobile client for iPhone and iPad lets the user specify a different set of credentials for Exchange integration. For the Exchange Autodiscover process to work correctly, the necessary DNS records must be available.
To confirm that Autodiscover is working, use Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analzyer at http://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com (http://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/)
In addition, please also refer to this document
    Lync 2010 Integration. Hope helps.

    Thanks for your kind response.
The X-server should work, when I export DISPLY to a remote X-server.
How about ImageServlet.. It seems that the ImageServlet has more advantages than X-server or XVBF
I tried to configure OC4J using ImageServlet follow UIX developer's guide. But I was not able to force OC4J to use ImageSevlet. But OC4J is stll try to find X-sever..

    Bye.

    Hi all,
Thanks a lot for ur reply. It worked me atlast.I have installed JDK1.4 and try to run my program. But it was creating some junk value instaed of creating picture. Actullay my programme needs some third party fonts , it was not loading after i have upgraded. But what i did is , copied the fonts file in to <Java_home>/jre/lib/fonts/ directory. Now it's working fine.
I have done another thing .I am using resin-2.1.0 to serve my JSp pages . So i have added $JAVA_ARGS="-Djava.awt.headless=true"; in wrapper.pl . If u will not add this line then iot will not work for you.
    Thank u once again.
    Bye.

You will need a library to handle SSH connections.
I'm using SSH.NET, you can find info on it here : http://www.powershelladmin.com/wiki/SSH_from_PowerShell_using_the_SSH.NET_library
It has a bit of a learning curve but the web site has some fairly good tutorials.

I've just done a clean install of OSX Server and added the latest MYSQL packaged installer. Afterwards I found the lock file in /private/tmp/mysql.lock
The easiest way to solve this problem is to create a symbolic link so that the lock file appears to be in right place.
    e.g.
    cd /var
sudo mkdir mysql <== this assumes the directory is missing
    cd mysql
    sudo ln -s /private/tmp/mysql.sock mysql.sock
After this msql commands should work fine, and you've not fiddled with the security settings on users/groups.

After an unscheduled server reboot with DS up and running when trying to start a job in either Data Services Management Console or DS Designer getting the following:
"Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock'"
The mysql.sock have never been in /tmp and on the production server it does not exist there and the production server is up and running correctly. If a link is created to mysql.sock(/home/user/boedge31/bobje/mysql) the job will start but return this message:
"Cannot retrieve <Version> from the repository. The SQL submitted is <select VERSION, SECURITYKEY, GUID from AL_VERSION where NAME = 'Repository Version'"
I checked and AL_VERSION and the Version field exist.
Before the shut down DS was working correctly and had no issues.  My best guess is a part of the repository was corrupted during the unscheduled shut down.  It seems like DS has "forgotten" some of the settings.
Any suggestions on a possible solution?

    The issue has been solved.
There was a bad path in $LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
Removed the path and DS started working again.
