IPhoto 06 won't accept my 05 Library Folder
When I started iPhoto 06, there was this message: There is a problem accessing one or more files in your iPhoto Library folder. In the finder select the iPhoto Library folder. Then choose file>get info. Make sure you have read and write permissions for the folder and then apply this setting to all enclosed items.
I did this.
It then says: "are you sure you want to apply the selected owner, group and permissions to all the enclosed items?" I push "OK." Then I sign my password.
It then says: "Tje operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items."
It's weird. The pictures were either taken by my camera or my girlfriend's camera. I don't know why the "permissions" would change from 05 to 06.
Reid:
The update messed up the ownership/access on some of the library files. Try the following: download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. That should reset all files back to your ownership and access.

Some of my iPhoto albums will not show, as below:

I have real a lot of posts that say to click Command+Option while opening iPhoto and this will open the Photo Library Repair window, but... this is not happening. Each time I do it, iPhoto just opens as it normally does. I've tried about 10 times, closing iPhoto completely. I've tried through the dock icon and through the applications listing. Neither will open anything other than regular old iPhoto.
Can anyone help me and suggest what I may be doing wrong, or are there any alternative was to open Photo Library Repair so I can rebuild my library? I really don't want to lose all of those photos, especially since some are really important and irreplaceable.
Thanks.I have real a lot of posts that say to click Command+Option while opening iPhoto and this will open the Photo Library Repair window, but... this is not happening.
Be sure you're holding the correct keys and that you're holding them long enough. Depress them before clicking on iPhoto and don't let go until the menu shows up.
If you don't want to lose those photos, make a back up now. Hopefully it's not too late. -
I have been using iPhoto 6 since it came out without problems. Yesterday, to solve unrelated problems, I was forced to do a full restore which included photos that were "pre-iPhoto 6". Therefore I had to re-install iPhoto 6. Now iPhoto 6 will not run, it inmediately quits when it tries to start loading my 1,000 plus photos. The only error message I get is "The application iPhoto quit unexpectedly." I can see all my photos with Preview so I know they are in my HD. Please help! Thanks.

You haven't lost your photos as iPhoto just copies them into it's library folder and uses those copies. Those copied files will be located in the Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals folder. If they are not being seen in iPhoto then there's an issue with iPhoto reading the file properly, etc.
As a first shot download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings as shown here. If that doesn't work, copy one of the folders from inside the Original folder and reimport them from there. If iPhoto asks about duplicates just say it's OK to import. If those work then you'll have to move the Originals folder to the desktop, move the iPhoto library to the trash bin and launch iPhoto. It will ask you to find the library or create a new one. Create a new one and import the photos from the Originals folder on the desktop. -
I need to access one folder in user library folder from my time machine backup......but the backup disk won't show show a library folder.
Pressing option-go only directs me to the current library folder in my hard drive. I have opened up the saved disk image and need to copy one folder and put it into my current library. Trying to restore using time capsule won't let me into the user library either......
thanks in advance for any help
christosThe Saved Application State folder is where Lion stores all the information required for its resume feature to function as it does. As you are looking for a specific saved game folder it will not be in the Saved Application State folder. This folder was not present in Snow Leopard so wouldn't be present on your backup previous to the Lion install.
The game saves you're looking for will most likely be located in the Application Support or Preferences folder.
Hope this helps

IPhoto 11 won't launch and crashes every time I try to rebuild the library. Urgh.
iPhoto 11 won't launch- it's another case of an infinite skinny wheel. I've tried rebuilding the library numerous times, each time it takes about a day and each time it crashes near the end. This is just ridiculous. Any tips folks?
APPLE if you can hear me... shouldn't you be testing this stuff prior to release? I know you do but I mean, like REALLY testing it? This is my second iPhoto upgrade disaster. The last time I lost my entire library, had to spend £80 on recovery software that recovered not only most of my photos, but every image cached on my machine. So then I had the fun of sorting through literally thousands of images...
And I only got the upgrade becasue my iPhone is refusing to sync, freezing on the iPhoto bit. Gah.Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

The iPhoto Library Upgrader tool doesn't work. I've downloaded it, and follow the directions, but iPhoto still won't open.
Your Library is damaged.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
As for goign back: do you have an undamaged library?

IPhoto 6 Won't Upgrade v5 Library
When I launch iPhoto 6, I get the following error message: "Unable to upgrade this photo library because the current user doesn not have access. If possible, repair permissions for the iPhoto Library folder and try again." It also says that the path of the item that failed is an invisible .DS_Store file.
I've repaired permissions twice, once with Disk Utility and then with Cocktail. Neither solved the problem. Then I removed the folder with the .DS_Store file, but another .DS_Store file stopped the process.
Anyone had this problem and solved it?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try to manually set the ownership and permissions on the iPhoto Library folder as follows:
Setting Permissions for iPhoto Library Folder
1 - Select the iPhoto Library folder and type Command-I.
2 - When the Info window comes up go to the Ownership and Permissions section and make sure You have Read & Write permission and that the Owner and Group have Read & Write also. Others - Read Only.
3 - Then click on the "Apply to enclosed items..." button.
See if that won't help. -

After updating to Yosemite, I updated iPhoto. Alert said to convert my library to new iPhoto. Then alert said I needed to repair permissions. Then a freeze. Then iPhoto won't find and show my library. How do I fix this? I can see the library icon on my external drive, but it doesn't show as a library in iPhoto. When I double click on the icon, nothing happens. When I choose it from alternate menu, doesn't open. Where do I get help?

Do you have a back up? What version of iPhoto do you have? Assuming 09 or later:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:

IPhoto won't let me change library/copy files location to exHD.
I have recently purchased an external hard drive to transfer my photos to since my internal hard drive is full. I followed the directions to copy the photos and change the library location. However, when I get about 10 minutes into the copying process an error message pops up telling me the command cannot be completed since the Finder cannot read or write some of the files (error code -36). I went into the info panel on every iPhoto folder and file in the Pictures file and changed them to read and write. It still won't allow the files to be copied to the external hard drive. What am I missing? I really need to clear up space. I only have 4 GB left on my internal drive.
The error code -36 is a I/O error. You can try the following:download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name in the owner section and Staff in the group section. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Then try copying again.
If that doesn't work you could use iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the library and have the rebuild library be created on the external HD. This will preserve keywords, titles, comments, albums and events. However, books, slideshows, calendars, etc. will not be preserved.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard. -
I'm trying to process my first iPhoto order and I can't get past the fact it won't accept my telephone number. Thinking this may be a format glitch, I have tried to get around this by spacing but no success. I live in Australia and the prefix is +61. Any suggestions welcome? Yours in frustration:( CW
Experiment - or search these forums - someone discovered a solution and it was a format issue
The US format for phone numbers is 10 digits AAA-PPP-NNNN - you do not include the 01+ here typically - maybe if you can out your digites in that format it will work
Hopefully someone from down under will tell how they do it

I am trying to activate Photo Stream in the ICloud Settings. It says I need to update IPhoto, which I have done (9.4.2 update), which I have done. It still won't accept me checking it. What am I missing? Just trying to get current with Photo Strream capabilities.
No idea unless you tell us what you have done
Basically you log into iCloud in the system preferences and then turn on PhotoStream in the iPhoto preferences - the FAQs, instructions and trouble shooting hints are here -- http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/

IPhoto 08 won't recognize my migrated iPhoto Library
I'm confused. I recently got a new iMac 24", and today I just received my Up To Date copy of OS X 10.5 and installed it, and then migrated my user files from my old Mac (an iMac G5). I was using iPhoto 6 on the old Mac. When I launch iPhoto '08 on the new machine, it can't find my iPhoto Library (which is in the Pictures folder), and when I try to choose the library, I can navigate to the iPhoto Library folder just fine and Open it, but what am I supposed to select inside the folder to choose the library? The files inside it are all grayed out.
Note that my old iPhoto Library is just a folder... it is not a package like iPhoto '08 creates if I tell it to make a new library. My current iPhoto Library works fine in iPhoto 6 on the old Mac (and has worked fine since the first version of iPhoto... I've been upgrading that library as I changed versions over the years).
Can anyone help?Thomas
Are you using going : Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location.
You should get the opportunity to open the library at the iPhoto Library Folder - before you go into it.
If you don't get that opportunity, then iPhoto is not seeing a valid library file there. Perhaps something went wrong with the copy...

Help! iPhoto 5 won't load my library correctly
I recentlly reinstalled OS X on my G5. I always keep my pictures folder for iPhoto 5.0.4 on my external FW Drive. Usually if I do a reinstal I have no problems with this. I start up iPhoto, it asks where the library is or do I want to create one, I navigate to the FW drive and it loads them right up.
This time... before loading it said this library needs to be upgraded, once upgraded these photos will not be viewable by previous versions of iPhoto..." I choose upgrade.
Now my photos all look squeezed like through an anamorphic lens in library view.
Then when I double click on them to view them nothing shows up in the viewer. Nothing.
Any help ?
I'd like to retain the work/effects I did on my library of pictures. There is about 3,500 pictures in it.
thanks,
tnixerHi txchain,
Why did your library need to be upgraded. Did you install iPhoto 6?
If you installed iPhoto 6, did you install the latest update?
You can try a rebuild and see if it helps.
Try this:
Before doing a rebuild make sure iPhoto's trash bin is emptied. You can do this by control clicking on the trash bin, or from the menu bar under iPhoto.
Close iPhoto
Duplicate the iPhoto Library folder
Drag the duplicate to the desktop (hopefully you have enough room on your hard drive for the duplicate.)
Launch iPhoto holding down the Command and Option keys until you see the rebuild options screen.
Choose the first three options. If you were missing photos in your library, also choose the last option. Be advised that you will get a roll of orphaned photos and it might be quite huge. Most of them will already be in your iPhoto library, but use caution when deleting anything from this roll until you are sure the photos are still in your library in another place. It might be a good idea to share/export this roll of photos just in case you need to import them again.
Back to the rebuild, depending on the size of your library it might take some time. When it is done, hopefully your photos will be there.
You might see some unexpected results as I did when I did a rebuild. Photos had been moved to wrong dates, video clips had lost their duration info and some were even orphaned from the jpg pointer file. It took me some time to straighten it out again.
This is the reason to make a duplicate before you rebuild, in case you do not like the result. If you don't like the result, close iPhoto, then delete the rebuilt library and drag the duplicate back into the Pictures folder making sure the name is iPhoto Library. Launch iPhoto and it should open the library in the Pictures folder.

IMovie won't open and Library Folder is missing in Finder
A few days ago, I downloaded the recent iMovie program. I even used it to make a video. Today I wanted to make another one but iMovie won't open at all. The wheel just spins and spins and nothing opens. So, I went into Finder and noticed my Library folder was missing. How did that happen? Is that why iMovie won't open?
I searched the Discussion Forums and saw how to find the Library folder in Lion. (Press Option and hit the Go button in the menu bar.) But, I have Maverick. I tried this anyway but I have no idea what/where the Go button is.
How do I find, or replace if necessary, my Library folder and get iMovie to open? I have a mid-2007 iMac that's been upgraded from Snow Leopard, so I don't want to put the Install Disk in and lose everything. Help? Thanks. Sorry for the confusion with the Library Folder. It's just been a long day all around.
Memory 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I know it's older but it's never caused me a day's trouble since I've owned it. I hate to replace it until the next upgrade.
ETA: I just opened the Activity Monitor in Utilities and it says, out of 4GB of Memory, that 3.88GB are Used. I don't understand this because I have very, very few things loaded onto my iMac at all. I've always had tons of memory left. I don't have any music on my PC at all. No movies, either. My dock only has Finder, Launchpad, Dashboard, Safari, Firefox, TextEdit and System Preferences.
Here's a report from my Activity Monitor. Any suggestions? I have no idea what some of these things are, like: CalendarAgent (I don't use calendar at all),
