IPhoto '08,  7.1.5 (378)

Have 6500 photos in the iPhoto library and have been using a Sony DSC-N1. The computer is an iMAC and has more than 2/3 of available HD space.
Problem: Recently (I presume during an automatic update), iPhoto can no longer load photos, neither from the camera, nor from the HD or memory stick. The error message indicates that the files are unreadable. In addition, if I export a photo currently in the library to the desktop, this can not be open with Preview ("Couldn’t open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."), and cannot be re-imported to iPHOTO "unreadable file".
By browsing through the web for information, I noticed that other users are experiencing the same problem. However, I did not find a posting indicates that the problem was solved, and the solution.
Would you please advise?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do you know which update was the last run? First run disk utility to repair disk permissions and verify the disk.
If DU indicates that repairs are necessary you'll have to boot into the system install disk that came with your Mac and in the first window after the language selection window use the Utilities menu to launch Disk Utility and repair the disk.
If repairs and not indicated reboot, make a backup copy of the library package and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options. Now try iPhoto again.
If you can't rebuild the library with iPhoto try using iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory .
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

My albums and slideshows disappeared from the left column when I ejected a Canon camera after a download.  My version of iPhoto '08 (V7.1.5(378)) had just crashed when I first connected the Canon camera to download.  I restarted iPhoto.....successfully downloaded 22 photos, and ejected Canon camera, upon which albums & slideshows highlighted blue and disappeared from the left column.  The photos still seem to be under the EVENTS and PHOTOS in the LIBRARY.  Any thoughts?

    Restore from your back up.

  • Photos shown in the Package Contents are not visible in iPhoto.

I am using iPhoto '08 (7.1.5 (378)) and have suddenly found that the last 3 years worth of photos are not displayed in iPhoto while they are still visible in the Package Contents (using Finder).  The folders (with event and image content) for 2012 through part 2009 are in Originals, Modified and Data but do not get picked up by the iPhoto application.  I have backups upto April 2011 i.e. no backups for a considerable number of photos since April 2011.
I have searched previous discussions whereupon I have tried using the re-build option in iPhoto Library Manager (it re-builds with the photos missing) and all the re-build options available when launching iPhoto with the Option+Command keys pressed (with seemingly very little activity).
Has anyone had this problem? Have I missed a relevant discussion?  Does anyone know how I can re-instate my missing photos and events in iPhoto?
    Thank you in anticipation.

When you repaired the libary did you check the option ot recover orphane3d photos in the iPhoto Library folder along with rebuilding the database file and repairing file permissions and?
If that doesn't help the try the following:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • How to update from pre App Store versions of iPhoto to iPhoto 9.6.1

After updating to Yosemite 10.3.3 from Mavericks my old iPhoto '08 v7.1.5(378) copy of iPhoto is grayed out with the circle/bar through it. I can use Old Toads package contents workaround to run it; but would like to not have to use that workaround each time by updating it to 9.6.1
All the posts I've found about updating to 9.6.1 use the App Store purchases list; but since that/my version of iPhoto was not purchased using the App Store, and iPhoto is not listed or hidden in my App Store Purchases list, those methods won't work for me.
Is there anyway to upgrade from my iPhoto '08 v7.1.5(378) to iPhoto 9.6.1?  Or from iPhoto9.4 which is still available from Support/Downloads?

Thanks léonie and Old Toad; although not the answer I was hoping for, it does save me from looking further. Disappointed that upgrading to Yosemite has (except for the inconvenient workaround) essentially killed iPhoto for me, especially since Photos does not yet have the sorting functions I need to move to it.

  • IPhoto created 156GB hidden temp file??

I just found 156 GB big hidden file on my hard drive. It seems to be somehow related to iPhoto Library, my guesstimate from the file name:
    Users/"usernamexx"/.OTMSW/203F366E-B0EB-3099-8AC3-E15F118B53E8/~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Library6.temp
*Does anyone know what is going on? Can I just delete this file?*
    I am using iPhoto '08 7.1.5 (378).
This has happened since Nov 08 when I changed over to the new MacBookPro.

    Wondering
Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
quit iPhoto and drag it to the trash but do not empty the tradh - launch iPhoto and test it out - I'm sure you will be ok but test for a while before emptying the trash - I've not seen that temp file before
Do not mess with any other files - especially the library6.iPhoto file - in fact you should be regularly backing the library6.iPhoto file up (Us Old Toad's automator script for convenience)

  • Impossible commander des tirages iphoto

    Bonjour,
    S.

You can install iPhoto 09, or iPhoto 11 from installation disk. They will run on 10.7 and allow you to order printed material.
You can get iLife 09 or iLife 11 install disks at Amazon or Ebay.

  • HT1338 I can't access my iphoto library as I'm told I need to update iphoto. When I go to update it says there is no update available for this version -- HELP!

The Iphoto is version 2008 but it won't let me upgrade to a newer version.

    Os is version 10.6.8
The exact Iphoto is 7.1.5 (378)
The message I'm getting is :
You can't open your iphoto library using this version of iphoto. You made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iphoto.
When I could no longer open the photos on this computer I copied them to an external drive. I viewed the photos on a borrowed computer and was able to see them but now I'm getting the message to upgrade but again, when I go to upgrade it tells me I can't on this computer becuase OS 10.7.5 or later is required. I'm not given the option to upgrade to 10.7.5 though -- it says my software is up to date.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Troubles starting up iPhoto

What causes iPhoto '08 to crash on startup and how can it be corrected?
For the last month or so, I've been having lots of problems starting up iPhoto. Either when double-clicking its icon, or upon automatic startup after I connect the camera, I'll get the blank events window, a spinning beachball and a few seconds later, a crash. Lately, the only way to start it up is by rebooting the Mac and trying with no other application running. Crashlogs show:
    Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERNINVALIDADDRESS at 0x000000002118fc88
    Crashed Thread: 0
    The system log states:
Nov 13 16:57:11 SilverFlash com.apple.launchd[106] ([0x0-0x1c01c].com.apple.iPhoto[896]): Exited abnormally: Segmentation fault
    Nov 13 16:57:12 SilverFlash ReportCrash[897]: Saved crashreport to /Users/macjuan/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/iPhoto2009-11-13-165708SilverFlash.crash using uid: 501 gid: 501, euid: 501 egid: 501
I've tried trimming the library as much as possible (currently 314 photos, 65 events) as well as emptying the trash every time, to no avail. I am using iPhoto '08 v7.1.5 (378) with MacOS 10.5.8, running on a Feb'08 MBP that has 4GB of RAM and at least 60GB of room left in the HDD.
What can I try to solve the problem? No, iLife '09 is not currently an option until I migrate to 10.6 and that won't happen until the snowy cat gets its act together (10.6.3 at least)

Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library' and make a new Libray. Import a few pics. Does that work okay?
If so, then back to the original Library:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
If that fails, try create a new Library in another User Account, if that also fails then re-install iPhoto..
I would strongly advise against upgrading until you have solved this issue. Most iPhoto problems are in the Library and updating will not fix that.
Oh, and 10.6 has been working flawlessly here since the beginning.

  • IPhoto crashing with MobileMe

Help! My iphoto 08 (7.1.5-378) keeps crashing "Application iPhoto Quit Unexpectedly" with the following error.
    Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE at 0x0000000000000000
    Crashed Thread: 9
I select the photos, click MobileMe gallery icon and publish, it starts to upload thumbnails and then crashes with the above error. This started about a week ago while on vacation with my G4 laptop. I figured it was the laptop but after returning home I get the exact same error with my iMac. Another data point; if I modify an existing MobileMe Gallery and update it goes in a deletes all the pictures from the Gallery and you cannot access the public Gallery via the web
I've tried repairing permissions, rebuilding the index and deleting the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help?

I'm getting the exact same problem. Just started this week. Mine's also duplicating whatever it is I'm trying to post to MobileMe, so, I end up with two galleries in the MobileMe photo section, but nothing shown in iPhoto when I relaunch it.

  • IPhoto 7.1.5 freeze when importing photos

    After iPhoto '08 7.1.5 (378) update,
photo import freezes just after displaying thumbnails and pushing "Import" button, when "Import preparation" is displayed.
Same try with new libraries, also with a second user, also after various reboots and with preference panes additional software limitations.
The previous release was OK on my PPC G4 mac.
Any user with the same trouble ?
    TIA

    Tkx Terence,
but it doesn't comes from the hardware.
I don't proceed to time machine backup of Application folder. Only datas + system. And I'm wrong, because I can't restore iPhoto 7.1.4 with a simple restore operation !
    The update has done 2 simultaneous changes : iPhoto_715.pkg + RAWCameraUpdate.pkg
I've downloaded iphoto_714.pkg (it was already in my receipts), but it's not possible to re-instal it :
1/ message : "iphoto release in place is newer than 7.1.4" when I don't remove iPhoto from application folder.
2/ message : "iphoto cannot be found" when I remove both iphoto_715.pkg from receipts and iphoto application from application folder.
iPhoto was installed on my dual processor mac when i got it, but it was 10.1.1 OS release ! you can imagine the installation process !!!
That's a bad experience, i will backup application folder with Time machine in the future.
    - Anyone knows how to re-install iPhoto 7.1.4 ?

  • How do I go about saving ALL data on an imac running 10.5.8 and wipe the harddrive and install an new OSX

I have an old imac running OSX 10.5.8 which for various reasons was never updated further
Processor is 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    memory 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    It has iphoto 08 7.1.5 (378)
I also have a macbook Pro.  Running OSX 10.7.5
    Processor 2.4 GHz intelCore i5
    memory 4GB 1333 Mhz DDR3
    This one runs iphoto 11 v 9.2.3 (629.52)
On Both these Machines I want to save all the files  and particularly the photos to an external hard drive.   I can do the files etc but having problems with iphoto.  I want a complete functional copy of both libraries in iphoto and I want to be able to access it and pick and choose which ones I want to use  but not STORE on a new Macbook.  I want to access the photos from several machines and just browse through them.
Then ..  once I have a proper copy of everything  I want to reformat the old imac and install the newest OSX it will run given its Processor etc.    any advice on which OSX it can cope with?
Also possibly upgrade the  macbook pro , so that they talk to each other properly, will access icloud and will also both be compatible with a new macbook pro running Yosimite...
But I want to be able to pick and choose which files I move to the new macbook. Both photos and general filing.
This may be easy for an expert but I am not an expert, I am reasonably competent.. but definitely not an expert and I don't want to mess up and lose stuff.
    can anyone help?

  • Reconnecting shared libraries

    Hello,
    IPhoto '08 7.1.5 (378)
Sometimes, shared libraries disappear from the left pane.
Is there a way to re-search/reconnect shared libraries without re-launching the iPhoto.
    Thanks

    Greetings,
They shouldn't be disappearing unless something is interfering with your network connection or if the computers hosting those libraries are going to sleep etc.
That you could try turning sharing off and back on in iPhoto > Preferences > Sharing.
    Cheers.

  • Extra music tracks from ITunes

Hi, Not sure if this is the right place for this post....
I have successfully made a few AVs via Iphoto / Itunes burned via Idvd, now i am wondering if its possible to get two tracks or more of music from in ITunes instead of one track so my AVs last longer as i do mine to 'Fit slideshow to music' all i would like to do is add 2 or more tracks instead of one.
    Itunes 8 8.0.2 (20)
    Iphoto 08 7.1.5 (378)
    IDVD 08 7.0.2 (1100)
    any help please
    Gordon

Yes, you can add more songs your slideshow.
If you plan on using music purchased from iTunes, you should take these preliminary steps to avoid potential issues with the DRM protection.
    1. Burn the music in question to a CD.
    2. Reimport the music as an AIFF file. iTunes>Preferences>Advanced>Importing>Import using: (drop down menu) AIFF encoder
    3. This music can now be imported into your project.
Once you have your newly imported music, create a playlist of those songs in iTunes. Open the slideshow in iPhoto; click on "Music". Select _only the playlist_, not the song titles themselves.
    I hope this helps.

  • Pictures all turned Gray and Black

I was working in iPhoto V 7.1.5(378) on a MacBook 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM Memory running 10.5.6. When all of a sudden my screen went gray. I looked at my events and they are all black. I still have dates listed under my events and my computer says I still have about 1900 pictures, in the gray bar below where my pictures should be, but I sure can’t see them. I have turned the computer on and off, Zapped the Pram and, read about starting holding down the Apple + "alt" key and opening iPhoto. No good so far. I just clicked on a picture when it all went gray. If I try to highlight a picture I do get a yellow square around either the grey in "Photos" or the black of "events". Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    RHWood

Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and point it at the Library in your Pictures Folder.
If iPhoto sees a valid library there it will open it. If not then your database is damaged.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.

  • Slideshow button not working

I'm not sure what's going on, but I am running iPhoto '08 7.1.5 (378) and just yesterday the slideshow button (the "play" button in the lower left of the UI) stopped working. I click it when I have a bunch of photos or an album selected and nothing happens. It did work up until yesterday.
Another odd behavior is that I can't get iphoto preferences to open either. I checked under the Window menu to make sure it wasn't opening off-screen or something odd like that.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    Start with the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    2. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    3. *As a Test*: Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.
