IPhoto '08 Cannot Delete Video

Hello,
Recently, I upgraded to iPhoto 7.1 (347) and am having a problem handling videos... I have 175 movies taken with my digital camera imported into my library (and they have been there since I upgraded from iPhoto 6.x). One day, I decided that I HATED how iPhoto couldn't pass off the videos to iWeb properly, so I decided to remove the videos from iPhoto and handle them manually. Well, it seems that the videos did actually get deleted from my library (as I can't find them in the actual library) but I still see the thumbnails in iPhoto. Now, I have done the whole CMD-OPTION thing when I start iPhoto to rebuild the thumbnail cache and library database, but I STILL see the thumbs to these movies. I did notice that I could go into the 'Data' directory in my library (via Finder) and delete the thumbs that way BUT when I do that, the movies are still referenced in iPhoto, but the thumbnail is blank.
Please, someone tell me how to get rid of these things... I am losing my mind (my OCD is killing me over this one).

No, I couldn't. It would just make that sound that says 'I don't think so'. HOWEVER... I did figure out what the problem was. It had to do with Keywords. All of my movies have the keyword 'Movie'. If I used Keyword Manager 1.3.2 to select all things with the keyword 'Movie', I could not delete from the results. I uninstalled Keyword Manager, and using iPhoto's built in keyword search, looked up 'Movie' and was able to delete them. Thanks for the timely response. I apologize for wasting your time on this one...

Just click it and then click Delete on your Keyboard. There is no way to delete videos by right-clicking (so just use your keyboard).

  • What Breaks iPhoto - Comm-Op-Deleting Video From Video Play View

So I've been suffering through iPhoto since it came out. I say "suffering" because it frequently crashes, behaves poorly, uses 95% of one CPU, and corrupts its library. Version after version, from 1 through 11, it's been having issues. It totally corrupted my wife's library on two occasions (luckily after many weeks of work each time, we were able to recover it), and mine as well.
After using iPhoto Library Manager to recreate my wife's library, she stopped having issues (iPhoto's "rebuild" option didn't do the trick). After my corruption got particularly bad, I did the same with mine. It took about 3 days to rebuild, and though it still uses 50-95% of one CPU all the time, I noticed something that was working correctly again.
One of the many problems was that when I rotated a photo from what I'll call the "many photo" view, the photo would disappear completely for about 2 seconds before reappearing rotated. Then, often times clicking it would show the rotated image in the wrong dimensions or such for the first few attempts before sorting itself out about 5-6 seconds later. After rebuilding the library from scratch, this problem disappeared! If you rotate an image from the "many photo" view, it instantly rotated - no disappearing and reappearing.
It also took up 45GB less size after rebuilding.
So everything was great for like 3 days, and then I was watching a video I didn't want to keep in "single photo" view, and so I hit command-option-delete to remove it from my library. It gave me the ERROR BEEP and didn't remove the video. At the top it says 0 of 460. I went to "multiple photo" view and deleted it in the same way there, and it deleted it this time, BUT the rotation issue started up and has stayed with it since.
So that might just be the source of the recurring corruption in the iPhoto Library. I post this in a vain attempt to get the word out to an Apple programmer to finally fix this (and other) eternal iPhoto bugs.
And yes, I've tried all the command-option-launch iPhoto utilities. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this without recreating my library each time with iPhoto Library Manager, I'd be happy to hear it.

this accomplishes nothing since this is streictlhy a user to user volenteer forum as described in the TOU - it is NOT a place Apple monitors for bug reports - to report to Apple  iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback

I've been suffering through iPhoto since it came out.
The soluiton to this is to fix the iPhoto library and lear how to use iPhoto correctly or to use a different program that you do like - use of iPhoto is not madated

  • I have imovie on ipad and cannot delete videos.

I have read support on how to delete a video from the ipad in imovie and there is supposed to be an edit button in the upper left corner but it does not exist.
I also have some 12 Gig of memory used up but 'usage' in settings does show where this massive amount of data is, it only shows about 4Gig of usage.

    Kiwiphone,
    Thanks for your help.
You are correct about the location of the file.  I had looked for the Photos app in the main app page but completely neglected to look at the permanent apps on the bar on the bottom of the iPad, and there is was.
"Photos" seems to be an odd place for a movie to be automatically stored but now that I know......
So I went to the Apple store Genius bar to find out where the mysterious files were chewing up my hard drive (analogous to "dark matter" in space :-).  The person that was helping me was able to see how big this missing space was by connecting to his Mac via iTunes. There is the file usage bar in iTunes where you can see what is using your memory space.  It uses colors to show how much is consumed with music, video etc.  The yellow color was indicating a huge amount of 'other' files and the tech was surprised by how much I had consumed in 'other'.  Note!  The Usage application in the iPad settings IS NOT capable of seeing these other files.  The tech said these files were in iPad "limbo".
He said I could recover this space by restoring the iPad (after first syncing it with my Mac at home).  I connected to my Mac to sync (had not done that for weeks) and just the act of syncing freed up several gigabytes of storage.  I might have freed up some more by restoring but I was a little concerned about restoring losing something (should I be or should I go for it?).

  • Cannot delete from Music Videos

cannot delete items from the [Music Videos] play list. The file do not exist anymore on the disk (I get the ! icon) still cannot delete the item.
Redefining the [Music Videos] does not help, the files does note show up in the movies folder to delete them
    Any help is appreciated
    iPod 8GB Windows XP Pro

Did you Apply the change after selecting (checking the box for) Manually manage music and videos?
With the latest iTunes, if the sidebar is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
In the sidebar, select the iPod under DEVICES.  Click the toggle (to the left of iPod) to drop down the iPod's content list, indented under iPod.  Click on Music there.  Over to the right, the list of songs on the iPod is shown.  You can select songs there, right click on them, and select Delete from the contextual menu.  You can also select songs there, go up to the menu bar, and select Delete under Edit.  You can also select songs there, and just press the Delete key on the keyboard.
If you want to use automatic syncing, which is far more convenient than the manual method, and easily manage content on the iPod (add and remove songs), please post back.

  • Is there any way to recover deleted video from iPhoto?

I lost all my iPhone videos because iPhoto didn't export them properly. A whole month of video memories of my newborn's life are gone. Why would a program be designed to export photos and not videos if it allowed videos to be imported from a device?? I am beyond devastated. Files should ONLY be allowed to be dragged and dropped instead of having an "export" option. How in the world was I supposed to know my video files would be exported as blank files?? I know I should have checked the backups before deleting the originals from iPhoto, but I figured when a file was exported, it was copied as is to the external HDD. My question is this: is there ANY possible way to recover old deleted videos??

What version of iPhoto and system are you using?
Why would a program be designed to export photos and not videos if it allowed videos to be imported from a device?? I am beyond devastated.
When you import a video iPhoto creates a jpeg preview version of the first frame.  When you export it out of iPhoto you only get the actual video file if you select Kind = Original.  Either of the other two options give you the prieview image file.
If you have access to the library they may still be in there. Create a smart album with the criteria:  Keyword = movie or File Name contains .mov.  That should display all movie files in the library.  Try the export Kind = Original and see if you can retrieve them.

I cannot view video clips I created and syncd from my iphone into iphoto.  Quicktime used to open automatically.  Now it wont for some reason.

If you have iPhoto 8 and Lion then download and install QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later.  That should let you view clips in the iPhoto library.

  • Cannot delete photo's in Iphoto-09with Snow Leopard

Cannot delete photos from library in IPhoto 09. Whats happen is that the spinning thing starts and never stop. Then I must "force stop" the computer with on/off button. Any experienced the same thing?
I drag the photo from library - pictures to bin. Same happen when do short command.
    Jean-Pierre

I drag the photo from library - pictures to bin.
Which Bin? In the iPhoto Window? Or the main trash?
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Cannot play videos in iPhoto since SL upgrade

Since I upgraded to SL, it appears that I cannot play videos that I have loaded to iPhoto. I go into an event in iPhoto in which I have some digital camera videos and they do not play. These used to open in QuickTime and run fine. When I click on the video and choose "Show File", it will show me where the file lives. These are fine on my computer and can now run them from here, but it used to work right in iPhoto. Has anybody had this happen to them? Is it a bug with SL or is there a new setting or something I am missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, it's a bug. Have you applied the Mac OS X v10.6.1 Update? If not do so and try again. If that doesn't work all we can do is report the problem to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Recover deleted video from iphoto

    hi
i accidentally deleted my recorded videos from iphoto on macbook pro , then i changed the os version from snow leopard to mountain lion , can anyone help me with the procedure of recovering the deleted videos.. they are emotional and personal moments...i captured and i regret not having backed them...and i feel sad to lose them... please help me ..

With all that you've done, there's a very good chance that the files have been overwritten by new files.
However, if you wish to attempt to 'rescue' them, I can recommend (because I've used it on drives that are NOT DAMAGED) Data Rescue 3. $100 to ATTEMPT to recover the files, but if they have so much value to you, it may be worth a try.

  • Nokia c6-01 cannot delete photos and videos

why my c6-01 cannot delete pictues and videos that i captured??....when i try to delete that pictures the general error comes out...one more question...can the type of memory card that uses can make this problem overcome???..need opinion

    Hi luqman94,
Thank you for your post and welcome to the forums!
If you mean hard reset, it will only wipe your phone memory empty. If you have data on your memory card it will stay untouched.
If you are unable to delete files in mass memory mode via computer, we would advise you to remove the memory card from your phone and connect it directly into your computer with an adapter and see if you can modify it's contents that way.
If the problem persists, you could try to format the card either on your phone or computer and see if that helps. Just remember to backup any content you'd like to keep before doing this.
Let us know if this helps,
