Iphoto 08 loaded on Mac ordered in 09

I ordered a Mac in mid January of 09. I haven't had time to play with iphoto until this past week. I noticed that iphoto 08 is loaded instead of iphoto 09. Does anyone know if this is standard procedure for Macs ordered in January or did my Mac get overlooked when they were loading software on it after the purchase? I thought it came if ilife loaded already and assumed because I ordered it in 09 that it would come with ilife 09.

Welcome to the Apple suer to user assistance forums
Please note that if you purchase your computer directly from Apple then the upgrade is only $9.95, but if you purchased your laptop from a reseller (i.e. Amazon) then you have to pay the full $79.
Not if you purchase from an Apple Authorized Reseller
The iLife Up-To-Date upgrade package is available to all customers who purchased a qualifying new Mac system from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after January 6, 2009 for a shipping and handling fee of $9.95 (US). Artist Lessons are available through the GarageBand Lesson Store for $4.99 (US) each.
But I believe that the end date has passed so the program has expired anyway

  • After upgrading to iOS8, iPhoto Events from my Mac are out of order.

After upgrading to iOS 8, iPhoto Events from my Mac are out of order on my & my husband's iPads and iPhones.  Anyway to get back in order or do we need to revert to prior iOS?

iPhoto for iOS is no longer supported nor works in iOS 8 and has been dropped from further development by Apple.  This Apple document describes how to migrate photos from iPhoto to Photos: Migrating from iPhoto for iOS to Photos on iOS 8
It's a whole new ballgame now.  Here's some info on how the Photos apps now works.
Your photos are still on your phone.  With iOS 8 there is no My Photo Stream or Camera Roll any more.  The MPS has been replaced with the Recent Activity album.
The CR is replaced by the Collections mode.  The closest we can get to the Camera Roll is to turn off the Summarize Photos feature in the Settings/Photos & Camera pane and view the photos in the Collections/Moments window.
The photos will be in chronological order when scrolled up from the bottom of the window.
The Recent Activity album is showing the photos added in the last 30 days going back to 8/20 (today being 9/18).  In iPhoto on a Mac the My Photo Stream is showing more like 31 days, 8/19 to today, 8/20. It must be how the two devices calculate the last 30 days.
WARNING:  If you use iTunes to sync photos between your iPhone or iPad and your Mac do not activate the iCloud Drive. Doing so will kill the capability of using iTunes to sync with your mobile device and disable Documents & Data syncing for your iCloud account on OS X Mavericks and earlier Macs, as well as iOS 7 and earlier devices.

  • Opening iPhoto file from other Mac in order to extract images

My son got his first MacBook Pro trashed several months ago. He got another, but did not port his data from the iPhoto file backed up from his first MBP. Instead, he has an iPhoto file on his new MBP and has been adding pics and movies to it.
The problem is he has about 5GB of pics/movies in the old iPhoto file, and he wants to extract them and import them into his current iPhoto file. The old iPhoto file is on an external drive that he used for backup. My task is to get these images from the old iPhoto file for him.
I was hoping I could swap iPhoto files on my Mac, but that didn't seem to work.
How can we gain access to the images in the old iPhoto file?

The easiest way to do what you want is to use iPhoto Library Manager to merge the two Libraries.
Altenratively: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and point it at the Library on the external. Export the pics from it (File -> Export) and import them to the new Library. Note: There is no way to get all the versions of the photos when you do this.

  • How to use a single iPhoto Library from multiple macs

I'm trying to help my brother out with his iPhoto Library and his Mac network.  He has a Library on a MacBook Pro that is about 65GB.  I am moving it to his Mac Mini to make it the primary Library.  What he wants to do is be able to load new photographs from any Mac in his house and have them appear in the primary Library.  If I make the Mac mini shareable and point iPhoto on each of his Mac's to the Library on the Mac Mini, will that work?
Are there any down sides to doing it this way?  Can you create multiple Libraries for iPhoto, the other thing we are thinking about is to organize his Library by years.
    Thanks
    Elliot

What do you mean by "make the Mac mini shareable"?
Iphoto is not really designed for this kind of use, but there are some possibilities - with limitations.
I'm assuming you want to use the same library for each machine, so there is only one.
Put the Library on a disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and set to ignore ownership and permissions.
Then point each machine at it in turn.
Remember only one machine can access the Library at a time, and attempting to do so with multiple machines can cause damage.
How are you connecting to the Library? A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.

    If you are using Lion:
Dealing With The Resume Feature of Lion
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.
It is possible to completely stop the Resume feature although I'm unconvinced that it is that annoying. Nevertheless see the following:
If you have not yet done so you must first make your /Home/Library/ folder visible. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the prompt paste the following command line:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN. Quit the Terminal application.
In the Finder navigate to the /Home/Library/Saved Application State/ folder. Delete the contents of the folder. Back up to the /Home/Library/ folder. Select the Saved Application State folder. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Sharing and Permissions panel at the bottom click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window.
Quit all open programs except the Finder (this is very important.) Next, navigate to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Look for a .plist file with "com.apple.loginwindow." in the file name followed by some numbers in hexadecimal. Select the file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and in the Sharing and Permissions panel click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window. If you also find a file with the same filename but with a last extension of ".lockfile," then you should delete it.
The above should eliminate the Resume feature system-wide. Note that any future system updates or upgrades will likely undo these changes. You will then need to repeat this procedure assuming there are no major changes in OS X related to it.

  • Transferring iPhoto Library from old Mac to new Mac

I'm trying to transfer my iPhoto library from my old mac to my new MacBook Air.  My old mac (black macbook purchased July 2008 - MacBook4,1) is running OS 10.5.8 and the OS can't be upgraded.  My iPhoto (ver 7.1.5) library needs to be prepared using the iPhoto Library Upgrader tool in order to transfer the library, but my OS doesn't support the program.  It says the upgrader tool 1.1 requires OS X version 10.6.8 or later.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac -  download and run the iPhoto library upgrader (it installs in the utilities folder of your Applications folder - double click it to run it), launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

  • Where do the photos in iPhoto store in my Mac

    Hello:
I have tons of pictures and I want to create a book in iPhoto but I dont want to load mi mac with all this photos. Where do the pictures save when I import them to iPhoto. I want to delete them after I finish using them.
    Thanks.
    Alex

When you've finished making the book simply put the files in the iPhoto trash and empty it. That will delete the pics from your Library and the HD.
FWIW: the photos are stored in the iPhoto Library in your Pictures Folder.

  • IPhoto Migration to new Mac--MAJOR ISSUES

We just got a new iMac to replace our previous 2006 iMac that was running Mountain Lion. It had already been determined by a Mac repair person that our old iPhoto library was corrupted and that we couldn't migrate that Library to the new Mac. Rather, we'd need to drag the "Originals" folder to the new Mac. Note: Due to the amount of photos we have, we store our photos on an external hard drive. (Also, nevermind that the 35K photos that were so carefully organized into folders and albums over the past 8 years would be lost). Fine. That's what we did. Major issues ensued:
    1. Everytime I've imported photos from my iPhone over the past two years, random photos (mostly those that I edited in Apps like hipstogram) multiplied and were reimported EVERYTIME I plugged my phone in the Mac. There are, like 10 copies of certain photos.
    2. Many photos are somehow duplicated, but in different "rolls." How do I even find the duplicates? They're dated when they were imported, not created. Grrr...
    3. During the import to the new Mac, an error message let us know that 795 photos were not imported. Which ones? Don't know.
    4. The WORST issue of all, a lot of the metadata on the photos is incorrect. Some is user error (Canon camera had the year as 2007 when it was really 2008), but a lot of photos imporated from the iphone over the years are saying 1/20/1980 or another nonsensical date. Or the photos are dated as the date of import, not when they're taken. So, not only did I lose the organization of the library, the metadata is incorrect. For many of the 35 thousand photos over 12 years.
The result? A jumbled nightmare of "Events" that aren't in chronological order in the new iPhoto.
Sidenote: Why can I navigate to the Originals photo files in the old Mac, but I cannot navigave via the finder to the Originals in the new Mac? The only way I can get there is to click "Go to original file" from iPhoto...and even then, its location is unclear.
I don't know what to do from here. The options as I see them:
    1. Clean up the duplicates/metadata in the old Originals folder and re-import the folder to the new Mac.
    2. Start with the current debacle on the new Mac and painstackingly reorganize all the folders (cleaning up, correcting dates).
Another sidenote: Is there a way to delete a photo in iPhoto and truly delete the file? I started deleting duplicates on the new iMac and I have to navigate to the original file (in its mysterious location), delete it, and then delete the thumbnail in iPhoto. This may take a year or two to complete. There has a be a better way. Help.....me.....

Our Mac person determined that our library was corrupted because various attempts to rebuild the cache/library were unsuccessful (spinning wheel and error messages).
try to reproduce this on your old computer nad report the exact error messages (and look at the iPhoto menu ==> about iPhoto to get the version)
So, from what I understand, the best path forward would be to fix/rebuild the old library to be able to migrate it to the new machine
    Yes
I do have a question about deleting photos in iPhoto. How do I handle eliminating duplicate photos in an iPhoto library (new or old)? My understanding is that deleting an image in iPhoto does not delete the actual file (in originals or masters or where ever it is housed on the Mac). Does this matter? Why would deleting photos in iPhoto cause corruption of the library?
Duplicates - IPLM does them very well
And most certainly deleting using iPhoto properly does totally remove the photo form iPhoto and from th ehard drive
Deleting in iPhoto is trivial - select a photo in an event, press the delete key and empty the iPhoto trash (do not let the iPhoto trash get large since sometimes iPhoto does not handle large trash bins well) - on later versions then you need to empty the system trash too
Do that and the photo is gone from iPhoto and from the Mac (given that you have a corrupted library past deletes might not have worked - from a properly working library it will work)
Deleting using iPhoto will not corrupt anything
    BUT you stated
I started deleting duplicates on the new iMac and I have to navigate to the original file (in its mysterious location), delete it,
That is NOT using iPhoto to delete photos - it is using the finder to go directly into the contents of the iPhoto library and makeing changes  - that corrupts the database

  • IPhoto remains loading

    Hi everybody.
I just update de new version of iPhoto (Mac OS X Lion).
The problems is the iPhoto remains loading (the wait pointer appears on it). I can't do anything y just can close iPhoto by force.
    Help Please

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Application Loader for Mac OS X 10.5.8

Where can Ifind Application Loader for Mac OS X 10.5.8. The latest version of AppLoader is cannot be installed to this OS version. Help please. Thanks.

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, upgrade it as if it was a Core Duo Mac, and once done, if desired, open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, go to the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004. If you upgrade the OS, back up the computer first.

From where did you lose the iPhoto icon? From the Dock? If so, then it's still in your Applications folder. Find it there then drag the icon back into the Dock. If it's no longer in Applications perhaps you've moved or renamed it. Use Spotlight to search for "iphoto."
Upgrading to Mountain Lion will not affect your iPhoto Library unless you erase the hard drive first. Be sure you backup before any system upgrade.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • Iphoto not loading and appears to be symptom of another problem

The first problem I had was related to Iphoto not loading - it would just hang with the spinning wheel.
The only way to stop the application was to restart the iMac.
    Version of iphoto is 8.2.1.
I tried to do a "rebuild of the permissions". After 24 hours, I restarted the IMAC as it had the spinning wheel and nothing else. Restart was the only way to get control back.
I took a copy of the Iphoto db at this point. (yes I should have done that first but thought I had a backup ...read on)
I did a "Backup Now" with time machine - after 48 hours it was still spinning the wheel. Only way to stop it was a Restart.
I then looked into some other things
    - it appears that time machine has not backed up for some time. It says it has but I think it is stopping at the iphoto database for some time. ie I am not sure I have a clean backup.
    - at this point I have copied all my files (eg. itunes library etc) to an external drive
    - I can use all other programs successfully
    - I cleaned up some disk space
    - I ran the disk utility to 'Verify Permissions" - see output below
    - I thought it best to try and repair the iphoto database and make sure I still have the photos before I try anything more drastic eg. I am looking to upgrade to a more recent imac anyway
    - I tried to download a later version of iphoto (9.1 and 9.4.1 (?)
    - I came back to find a black screen and everything still whirring away in the background
    - I downloaded iphoto manager - I tried to run but got a "restart your machine panic" message
At this point I am scared to do anything else and make things worse and concerned about the recovering 10 years of photos. I have most of them elsewhere as well, but this could get very messy.
    Any ideas???

Hi, actually more important than Permission Repair, is Disk Repair.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
