IPhoto '08 may break Firefox download capability

Just an FYI if you are having problems with Firefox after installing iLife '08:
After installing iLife '08 I was getting the following error in Firefox 2.0.0.6 whenever I tried to download any file from any site:
"/Library/Application Support/iPhoto/Themes/Shared/Baby/Icons/BabyBoy/babyboy-blank-hlines.tiff /tempfilename could not be saved, because an unknown error occurred. Try saving to a different location."

Now I wasn't trying to save to that location in the first place, so I changed my default save location in Firefox to the Desktop and I still received the same error. I deleted my entire Firefox profile and I still received the same error. I reinstalled a clean copy of Firefox, same problem. I deleted iPhoto's Application Support subfolder and it fixed the problem. I have reinstalled iPhoto '08 fresh and the problem has not come back... yet.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. As Terence mentioned the boot drive requires adequate space for cache, memory pageout and system cache files. It's strongly recommended that a minimum of 10 GB be maintained or more for best performance.
You can regain some free space by running Monolingual to remove the unneeded language modules. Be sure to not remove the English modules. If you're on an intel Mac do not run any of the other option in Monolingual. I saved nearly 2.5 GB the first time I ran it on my MBP.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

After installing it basically broke the Firefox browser bar.

As far as I’m concerned this is by far the most intrusive and inconsiderate update HP has every released. Be where – if I had to guess I would say that HP is using EDS to do it’s update/releases. I only say this because as someone who worked for EDS for 14 years, I can tell you they are used to telling their end user what they must have how they are going to get it instead of the other way around. This is one of the main reasons I left EDS in 1999. So do not trust HP anymore. Always make a restore point before you apply any updates and only apply update when they apply to you and the way you use your computer. I for one am going to turn off HP update notices because I don't even want to know about an update unless I have some problem I need to solve.

Problem and Solution:
Hp Update notified me an update for HP Smart Web Printing to version 4.60 is available. Because I like to keep my computer software up to date I clicked install, what a mistake. The first thing I noticed is that the Norton Toolbar 4.0 was missing in Firefox 3.5.7. Turned out it was BROKE and/or disables although Firefox showed it as being present and enabled it was not, along with other Add-ons for Firefox.
Things I tried:
1)      Exit and restarted FF (no effect)
2)      Disable HP Smart Web Printing and Restarted Firefox (Norton Toolbar reappeared but still was not working along with other Add-ons.
Final Solution:
1)      Uninstall HP Smart Web Printing (I check delete/no to save anything)
2)      Ran System Restore and restored to the latest System Check Point which was before the 4.60 update was applied because Windows was prevented from or just didn't create an automatic restore point in order to undo the update.
3)      Uninstall HP Smart Web Printing again and again I didn't save anything (Why? I have no idea but it appeared that even though the previous version of HP Smart Web Printing should be installed it seems that the 4.60 updates are applied to it so it’s the only way I could get Firefox and the other Add-ons working right) Norton Safe Web still doesn't work right and is a 100% dysfunctional.
NOTE:
All Firefox Add-ons seems to be working except Norton Safe Web function. The green tick mark no longer show up so you have no way of know if the site is Safe or not until you click on a link in Google search so Safe Web will check it which as far as I'm concerned diminishes the protection/function 100%. The only solution may be to uninstall Firefox and reinstall it, which at this time I've not done because I am still trying to find a way around it.

since upgrading no photos are reading ... just locks and wont read any shots as i try and view on iphoto

All photos taken since i upgraded to iOS4 on my iphone 3Gs are not showing up when connecting to photo, plus i recently upgraded iphoto to 8.1.2.
The message was that 'one shot must be damaged or corrupted' etc etc
So from what you are saying, you may or may not have some corrupt photos on your camera roll in your iPhone and when you try to import them into iPhoto, you are given a message that there is one or more corrupt photos on the iPhone. Is that correct?
Mysteriously though - today it works?
But today when you tried it again, it worked and all photos downloaded.

I did try and reload an older version of my iphoto back on....
but not sure what happened...
What did you try to load the older version of iPhoto on to? iPhoto 09 is all part of iLife 09. I am not sure, but I doubt the Mac will let you remove one part of the package and replace it with an earlier version EG iPhoto 08.
Make sure that you have all the latest versions of software on your computer.
On you mac, got to the Software Update menu option under the apple logo drop down menu.
It will scan your computer verses the apple updates available and give you a list of all updates available for your computer.
Based on the info you have supplied so far, you should have;
OSX 10.5.8
iPhoto 8.1.2
iTunes 9.2.1
If you have corrupt images on your phone, it is very possible that iphoto could have issues with importing the photos.
Open Image Capture on your Mac, you will find it in the Applications folder and connect your iPhone. this will show you the photos that you currently have, it shows a small thumbnail of the picture, the file Name, Date taken, etc.
If there are any corrupt photos on the iphone, you will not see the thumbnail of the photo, you will just see an icon saying jpeg or something similar.
If you have any of these, delete them using Image Capture.
Eject your iphone from Image Capture, unplug the iPhone and close Image Capture.
On the iPhone, open the Photos App and now make sure that you can see your photos.
Once you are happy that you can, plug the phone back into your Mac and import them into iPhoto as you normally would.

After I hit run, and firefox downloads, the pop up window doesn't display..what do I do?

I go to their webpage, I hid firefox download, I hit run, then nothing happens after it downloads. No pop up screen or anything. I've searched my laptop files and folders, but no firefox is displayed.

Same problem for me.
1. Cannot connect to wifi as icloud password pop up keeps appearing.
2. tried deleting account. UNable to do so.
3. tried resetting password by logging into apple id through desktop as mentioned in one of the responses in another thread. Unfortunately the apple id to be reset is the same as being prompted by icloud and hence unable to reset the same.
Feel like breaking the **** ipad into bits. Stupid of apple to let such a bug in and not offer support !!

Do you have any cleanup or anti-virus software that may have removed the files?
If "Open" and "Open Containing Folder" in the right-click context menu in the Download Manager window are grayed then that means that the file is no longer in the original download location.

Firefox downloads but then will not unpack without administrator status on home computer nor as existing user

I uninstalled "Firefox" having used it for years, after accidentally adding a taskbar I did not want.
On attempting to re-load the "Firefox" downloads straightforwardly but then comes up with an unfamiliar screen.
This says that I may not have the permissions to access all of "Firefox" features so to take a choice of;
(a) Running opening of Firefox as existing user,
or
(b) Running Opening "Firefox" as an Administrator asking for a password.
Neither choice starts the unpacking of downloaded software, the computer just goes quiet.
This is my home computer and I have never been asked this before, and have no special restrictions.
Any suggestions? I have downloaded "Firefox" via Google Chrome and Internet Explorer with same results.

Are you signed into the AppStore with the same AppleID that you used to accept iPhoto originally, when you set up your Mac?
You will see only the updates for the apps that are tied to your AppleID. Look also at the "Accept" section of the "Purchased" tab. Is iPhoto there?
And is iPhoto installed directly at the top level of the Applications folder, or in a subfolder? Move it to the top level.
iPhoto may not yet be available a the AppStore of your country. For some forum members it helped, to set the primary system language to "English U.K" and to reboot, before trying to update.

The best option until this is resolved is to “Save File” and that continues to down load into the “Download Firefox” folder.

Yes, I purchased the upgrade through the apple website, downloaded successfully. When I clicked on the iphoto icon, that's when I got the prompt that said I needed to prepare my library using the library upgrader. I got this from apple website as well. Thanks, I appreciate the help. I think this is one of the problems Apple is creating by changing the OS so often. I had fomer colleagues at [a major aerospace contractor] who told me that so many original files were ultimately lost because of the deadly change in the "Save As" operation that they are now afraid of every OS update. Apple has badly damaged their support base with that very prominent company (they won't update now until they've fully examined and understand changes in the pre-conditioned nature of OS computer functions), and they are a whole lot less enthaled with Mac-related equipment/software. Can't blame them, I too used orginal files that way (as easy-to-use templates), and lost some important files before I realized what was happening (to late to revert). Companies should not have to retrain employees each time an OS gets an update, it's can be very expensive several different ways. They learned a painful lesson with that one. And because I'm now retired and don't use multiple devices, I need iCloud like I need a hole in the head... but I'm told there's no way to keep Apple out of my computer. Fortunately, because of major problems when initially installing Mountain Lion, one hold-over of the hardware/software damage I experienced was that iCloud can no longer access my computer even though everything else is working fine again. That was the only "good luck" I had as a result of that expensive nightmare.
