Iphoto 08 not allowing manual sort

i can't seem to get iphoto to let me sort my photos manually. the option is there under the "view" menu, but it won't highlight or allow sorting manually.

Manual sort is not a feature of the event view of the library - in Photo view with event titles not displayed you can
Or you can manually sort in albums

  • Iphoto does not allow me to update

    Since installing Moutain Lion my iphoto does not allow me to update. It asks for it, but does not complete it. What should I do?

    I have the same problem. I have iPhoto 9.1.5 running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2, I open iPhoto and select Check for Updates... It says iPhoto 9.4.2 is available so I push Launch Software Update and it launches the App Store but then it says No Update Available. This doesn't surprise me since I never bought through the App Store but instead installed from the iLife '11 install DVD. All of iLife updated fine until Apple started releasing automatic updates through the App Store ONLY. So I tried going on Apple Support and manually downloading the next available update (Tried 9.2.1 & 9.4.2), I launch the installer and it says iPhoto 9.1 or greater is required to install this update. I have 9.1.5 so I don't understand why it won't work. I even tried installing iPhoto 9.1 update and it says it requires iPhoto 9.0. I don't know what else to try except maybe calling Apple to see if they would give me a free download through the App Store (Highly unlikely). I refuse to purchase the whole suite AGAIN just because it won't update but I want my updates so I can use iCloud and Photo Stream. So frustrating. I have been dealing with this for a year and now I am finally deciding to speak up and get some help with this. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

    Hi Qsm,

  • IPhoto is not allowing the edited versions to be exported.

    Apparently, there is a long-standing issue with iPhoto not keeping the edits once photos are exported.  I usually don't test my exports to see if the edited version was exported correctly.  I just assume Apple products are working as they should.  But I tested today and discovered what so many of you have discovered - iPhoto is not allowing the edited versions to be exported.  I can't see that Apple has addressed this.  What is going on here?  Side Note:  I am also frustrated that Apple took iDVD out of their line-up of available preloaded software.  Getting more disappointed with Apple all the time.
    Has someone figured out how to easily get around this obvious flaw?
    Could it have something to do with the preference of importing the photos into the iPhoto Library. Should I uncheck this in the preferences menu?  I really only want to use iPhoto for quick renaming of files and simple editing purposes and then export them to my own method of organizing and back-up.  I use Photoshop for more extensive editing.  Would really like to continue using a simple method, but so far, this simple method is more work than is necessary for Apple's software.  Come on guys!!!!!

    1 - there is NO " long-standing issue with iPhoto not keeping the edits once photos are exported." If you are doing things correctly it is trivial to export edited versions (or originals if you prefer)
    2 - it is strongly recommended that you do not uncheck the preference to copy imported items to the iPhoto library - unchecking this preference makes operation much more difficult and makes upgrading hardware or moving to a new system almost impossible
    3 - you are doing something wrong - since you do not tell us what you are doing - or even what version of iPhoto you have - it is impossible to u hfigure out what you are doing wrong
    exactly how are you exporting photos?  Exactly how are you using PhotoShop for editing?
    The proper way to eidt using PS is to set PS as the external editor, edit in PS and save (not save as) to return the edited version correctly to iPhoto?  The best way to export is to select the photo(s) in iPhoto and export (file menu ==> export) - the default is you get the current (edited) version

  • Iphoto is not allowing to cut and paste when under photos.

    I went to use Iphoto and it is not allowing me to copy or cut photos from one section of the photo library to another.  If I cut them, the paste button does not light up.  I tried using copy and the same thing.  Photos appear to copy, but it does not allow me to paste them.

    Because pasting would change the sorting if you paste out of sequence. The Library (and that's Events and Photos view) is sorted automatically, and manual sorting is not available there.
    Make Albums and you can drag the  images to any order you want.

  • Mavericks 10.9.1 Iphoto upgrade not allowed

    After upgrading to Maverick, iPhoto will not open. As suggested, have tried to upgrade iPhoto to latest version from app store, but I receive a message stating that I am not allowed to download as I am not the original owner of the mac or that it has been returned. Neither of these are true, I have owned the mac from new and have had no problems until upgrading to Maveriks.

    Check the HP web site to see if there is a new driver.

  • IPhoto 11 video and manual sorting..

    Hi all. I was fortunate and went through the upgrade without any issues. Everything went smooth. However I have two issues after the upgrade - and still after updating to 9.0.1.
    Videoclips: When playing a slideshow the videoclips from my camera are blue colour only. All colours are fine in thumbnails in iPhoto and when playing the clips separately.
    *Manual sorting*: Has been totally messed up in some of my albums. Sorting by date works fine but the manual sorting is what I want and what I spent many many hours on to perfect my visual presentations. That work seems to be lost now.
    I guess I have been lucky compared to the rest of you, but it seems like Apple has - one more time - released software without properly testing their new stuff.
    Sad but true...

    Create a new test library, import several photos, put them in an album and see if you can sort them manually. If you can this points to a damaged library.
    If you can't sort in the test library log into another user account on your Mac and try the test there. If you can't then it seems a reinstall of iPhoto is warranted. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder, reinstall iPhoto from the disk it came on and apply the latest updater.
    If you can sort in the other user account then your account appears to be the culprit. It could be a preference file other that iPhoto's that's causing the problem. Post back with the results and if you need to test your account I'll give you directions.

  • ScatterGraph does not allow manually editing axis range at runtime

    I'm using both ScatterGraph and WaveFormGraph controls in a Winforms VS2010 application.  I have the axis interaction mode set to EditRange.  The WaveFormGraph control allows editing the axis range by clicking on the end labels for the axis and changing them.  The ScatterGraph control does not even though the documentation that I have read indicates it should.  The axis mode does not seem to be the issue as I have changed between Fixed and AutoScaleLoose (which is not the selection to have while displaying changing data if you want your manually-entered range to be maintained).  I tried a new project with a ScatterGraph control with default settings and verified that it does not allow you to edit the axis range.  Is there a way to change settings to allow you to manually edit a ScatterGraph range in this way at runtime?
    Thank you!

    Hi Lybro,
    Have you enabled the "EditRange" InteractionMode of the scatter graph object? There are two places that the interaction mode is set, one for the axis and one for the scatter graph, both need to be enabled for the editing to work. I just tested this with Measurement Studio 2013 and it is working. Let me know if this helps.

  • Devices line in iPhoto does not allow you to sync but it does in iTunes

    When I to into Itunes my Ipod shows up and you click on the Devices and you can choose to sync what you want.
    However in iPhoto the devices line shows up but the Mac does not allow you to choose to sync i.e. the photos.
    Also the sceen it jumps into seems to only deal with importing photos---this is different that before.
    Can anyone help with this?

    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
    Frankly, I've read your post several times and I don't really understand what it is you are asking.

  • IPhoto will not allow my Mac to shut down as it thinks it is importing pictures, but there are none left to import.  How do I get around this?

    iPhoto will not quit, nor will it allow my Macbook Pro to shut down because it thinks it is importing photos.  There are none left to imort.  I have tried turning off My Photostream, then turning it on again, and have watched all the pictures arrive, but it is still stuck on the same message.   Has anyone any idea how to get around this please?

  • IPhoto will not allow me to select the Calender option.

    I have tried many things and am running out of options. When I click on the calender button nothing happens. please help.

    Bill:
    First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try again.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Iphoto does not allow to share events on the local network

    Hello,
    I was trying to share the iphoto library on the local network and it seems to be that I only can share albums, but not events.
    The help on sharing says:
    "Select the “Share my photos” checkbox, and then choose your entire library or only the Events,
    folders, albums, slideshows, books, calendars, or cards that you want to share."
    According to this I should be able to share events, but I'm not. Events don't even appear in the list of possible shares. The list itself says "Share selected albums".
    So is there a way to share events?
    If not then it looks like a bug to me. Basically to share the events I would need to create an album for each event.
    Thanks

    It's a bug or an optimistic writer of Help files...
    It's very easy to make an album from an Event: Simply drag the Event to the Albums section of the Source Pane - result an Album of the same name. As Albums simply reference files on the HD (unlike Events) you use no extra disk space, plus the options for sorting and arranging the photos are enhanced.

  • Do not allow to sort some columns in Alv Grid

    Dear friends,
    Please help me.
    I want to tell to the method set_table_for_first_display - make one of the columns not sortable.  Let's say the column name is "My Icon".
    What I mean with that is:
    when User will highlight column "My icon" and then click on sort buttons in the toolbar - no sort will happen on this column.
    I was trying to identify a field in lvc_s_sort which would say "do not sort this column".  Is there any?
    Or the only way to accomplish my task is to make sort buttons in the toolbar disable if column "My Icon" is clicked?
    gt_sort      TYPE lvc_t_sort.
        CALL  METHOD grid1->set_table_for_first_display
             EXPORTING i_structure_name = 'IT'
                       is_layout        = gs_layout
                       is_print         = gs_print
             CHANGING  it_outtab        = it
                       it_fieldcatalog  = gt_fcat
                       it_sort = gt_sort
    Thank you,
    Tatyana.

    Got a solution for ya, but you have to handle it thru coding.   So you will need to handle an event from your ALV grid.
    First thing is that you need a local class as your event handler,  copy and paste this code.  Here we are using the name ALV_GRID for your alv object
    data: alv_grid       type ref to cl_gui_alv_grid.
    *       CLASS lcl_event_receiver DEFINITION
    class lcl_event_receiver definition.
      public section.
        methods handle_user_command
          for event before_user_command of cl_gui_alv_grid
          importing e_ucomm.
      private section.
    endclass.
    *       CLASS lCL_EVENT_RECEIVER IMPLEMENTATION
    class lcl_event_receiver implementation.
      method handle_user_command.
        data: icols type lvc_t_col,
              xcols like line of icols.
    * Get the currently selected column
        call method alv_grid->get_selected_columns
           importing
             et_index_columns = icols.
        read table icols into xcols index 1.
    * If the selected column is not one that should be sorted
        check xcols-fieldname = 'MATNR'.    "<-- Whatever columns that you don't want to allow sorting on.
    * Now check the function code, if sort ascending or descending, then give message
        check e_ucomm = cl_gui_alv_grid=>mc_fc_sort_asc
          or  e_ucomm =  cl_gui_alv_grid=>mc_fc_sort_dsc.
        message i001(00) with 'Can not sort on this column'.
    * Now set the UCOMM as if the user didn't click anything.
        call method alv_grid->set_user_command( space ).
      endmethod.
    endclass.
    data: event_receiver type ref to lcl_event_receiver.
    Also, you will need to set the event hanlder after calling the SET_TABLE_FOR_FIRST_DISPLAY.
      call method alv_grid->set_table_for_first_display
          changing
               it_outtab       = i_alv[]
               it_fieldcatalog = ifc[].
    *  Set the handler for ALV grid
      create object event_receiver.
      set handler event_receiver->handle_user_command for alv_grid.
    Just tested this, and works quite well.

  • IPhoto 08 Not allowing me to upload photos to Blogger or Flickr

    When I try to upload photos to my Blog or to Flickr when I click on Photos -> iPhoto the iPhoto icon is grayed out and I cannot click on it. It seems the only way I can upload photos now is by dragging them to the desktop. Is there anyone that knows something I may be missing? I was able to upload photos prior to the 10.5.1 update and the last iPhoto update. Please any help appreciated.

    dooquie
    My guess is that you're used to working with your pics in folders, and directly accessing the pics from those folders. You can do this with iPhoto too, with a simple hack:
    If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.
    The keyword in that paragraph is 'database'. When you get in there, you need to decide which piuc you want - the Original, Modified or thumbnail version. As you search you'll be rooting through really helpful filenames such as dsc_1234567.jpg. iPhoto is a database, it features version control - preserving your original - and that can make surfing the Folder slow and tedious, especially if you have more than 25 pics in there.
    So, my advice to you is to try and do what I do when I sit in front of a Windows Box: I try to stop thinking 'How can I make this work like a Mac' and instead I try and figure out how the designers of Windows thought it out. Trying to make a Windows machine out of a Mac will drive you even madder than trying to do the opposite.
    In my post above there is a link to a media browser (it's free), you can also make one with Automator in 6 or 7 clicks. You can drag the files directly from the browser to your attach window. How difficult is that? But you don't even need to do that. all you have to do is use the Open / Attach dialogue and it's all there.
    When you attach a file you get a dialogue - that comes in compact or expanded form.
    If it's compact, it will be short (natch), but click on the blue triangle and it'll expand to a Finder window with columns... scroll down and you'll find a heading called Media, and in there are all your photos.
    And that's a lot faster and easier than running through folders of files...

    But I'm a really nice guy
    Seriously, you're right to be cautious. When you change the permissions on a SYSTEM file it can cause all sorts of grief. However, we're not talking about systems files, but about your own data. So there is no danger there. BatchMod carries that warning as a standard issue.
    If you have any doubts the best I can suggest is that you do a search using 'BatchMod' (the search is on top right) and see how it's gone for others.
