IPhoto 08 not recognising Camera

I can connect my Canon camera via USB to my eMac (10.4.11) running iPhoto 06 and all is sweet.
When I connect the camera via USB to my MacBook Pro (work computer) nothing happens. Is this an iPhoto 08 problem, a MacBook Pro problem, or OS 10.5.4? Any help would be appreciated as I am thinking of upgrading the eMac to an iMac running 10.5.
Thanks.

I have tried launching iPhoto and various combinations of launching, then attaching camera or attaching camera with iPhoto launched and it does not make any difference. I have not tried image capture but will do that tonight.
Have done a little bit more digging on this forum and some cameras have had an issue with the Raw camera update - I have downloaded the latest version, which is supposed to address this problem and will try again tonight. (do not have my camera here with me at work). A bit pessimistic re it fixing the problem as I import all images as jpgs.
Will post back once I have exhausted the above.
Thanks for your advice.

  • IPhoto does not recognise camera since synching with new iPhone

Ever since I've setup my new iPhone, Iphoto will not recognise my camera (Panasonic DMC-FX36); even though it recognises the iPhone camera OK. I've previously used the Panasonic camera without a problem and this has only started happening since synching the iPhone for the first time (not sure if this is coincidence or not).
I can't find anything in iPhoto that suggests any settings have changed... I've also tested an older camera (Canon iX series) and found the same problem.
Most frustrating as I have a heap of photo's of my newborn daughter and no way to share them... and a sinking feeling that I may lose them... any suggestions appreciated.
    Cheers

Thanks, I should have mentioned that I've tried Image Capture without luck...i.e. no device connected. The Camera actually asks for the prompt PC or Pictbridge... I've always selected PC, now the camera just freezes after I select the PC option... I have a card reader in my printer, but same problem, device not recognised.... Do you suspect it would be the camera or the iPhoto app?

  • Iphoto not recognising jpeg file

I have a Sony Nex-5r camera.  Up until yesterday I could upload photos from camera to iphoto not a problem.  For no reason that I can pinpoint iphoto now comes up with a mesage stating that the files are not in a recognisable format and I can't transfer them from my camera.  I use a usb cable to conntect to my Mac.

It's a minor database glitch, so let's repair the existing library:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Tether Failure Not Recognising Camera

I use Canon 1Ds MkII for professional commercial photography and undertake the majority of my work tethered. Installed latest Aperture up-date/pro-fix and have not been able to tether since. Aperture does not recognise the camera. Has anyone experienced this and/or have come across a fix?

You have no idea how many people have posted here trying get Aperture stop recognizing their iPhone.
In any case, try this: launch Image Capture, go to preferences and see what the drop down next to "when camera is connected, open" says. Change it to Aperture.
If that isn't it, what does aperture do when you specifically choose the Import command?

  • Skype Secondary - will not recognise camera/audio

Windows XP.  Since upgrading to version 7.7.0.102 when I start up my Secondary account Skype is not recognising my camera/audio and I get the following message under Tools/Options/Video Settings:
"Can't start video.  Try closing programs qhich might be using your webcam" Any suggestions and help much appreciated.

Have just done a system restore to before the new version of Skype was installed.  Now back on version 7.5.85.102 and all is working perfectly.
Could it be that the latest version of Skype is not compatible with Win XP? Hope that this helps others.

  • Mac will not recognise camera

    Hello
Just got a new Macbook Pro, 13inch. We want to use it to edit films but so far we cannot get the Mac to recognise the video camera. The camera is a Canon xm1 mini dv and it is connected with a firewire. When we plugged it in it does not even appear in the finder and Adobe Premiere does not recognise it either.... Any ideas?

  • IPhoto (and other apps) not recognising cameras

Usually, I plug in my camera, a Canon application launches, I cancel this, then iPhoto steps in and offers to download my photos.
However, at the moment, neither iPhoto nor the other relevant apps on my MacBook (Bridge, Image Capture, Camera Window) are recognising either of my two cameras.
System Profiler confirms that the camera is present in the USB port, but nothing from any apps.
    Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Have you run any updates recently, i.e. just prior to this problem starting?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Iphoto not reading camera

I just bought a Mac Book Air that did not have iPhoto.
I downloaded from App store and downloaded the camera driver.
It is stil not reading my camera.
Can anyone help. I am hours into this and so frustrated.
    Alicia

thank for you telling me where i could see if the camera is actually being read. i went to the system profiler and the camera is being read by the computer, i just don't know how to get iphoto to read it.
and just to clarify, this is one of those mini digital cameras that i don't think is more than $20 or $30. i got it for christmas and just thought it would be nice to be able to attach to a keychain and use when i don't happen to have my canon on me. so, if by chance this isn't going to work and the camera needs a regualr PC or whatever it won't be the biggest deal in the world, but if it's a simple fix i'd like to get it working.
    thanks

  • IPhoto not seeing camera pictures

When hooking up my camera to my computer, iPhoto recognizes it but on the import screen displays "no photos to import." However the Sd card in the camera does in fact have pictures on it (413 to be exact). I've even tried importing the pictures via image capture but the "no pictures to import" prompt appears. Any ideas to help with offloading the pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Hi David. This is a post I made in early Dec. Hope it helps. Best regards.
Hi discussions. This is just an answer to a problem I was having and might be helpful to anyone having iPhoto camera connection problems. First off, I have four apple computers; three running 10.4.11 and one, a new 2.8ghz MacBook Pro, running 10.5.5. The Canon 750 Elph is two months old. From the beginning it has connected to my desktop DP 2.5ghz G5 PPc, my 12" 1.5ghz G4 Powerbook (both running 10.4.11) and now the MacBook Pro. It would not connect to my wife's 17" 1.33ghz G4 Powerbook running 10.4.11. System Prefs identified the Elph connected to the usb high speed bus so I knew that the usb ports were operational. Image Capture stated; No camera connected. As always, all updates had been performed and permissions run. I trashed iPhoto '08 along with its prefs and all iPhoto receipts. I then reinstalled iPhoto '08 and ran permissions. Still no connection. It was time for Apple Discussions. I followed a thread from some weeks ago to try rebuilding the iPhoto library. I saved and rebuilt. No connection. My apologies for not remembering the user in the thread who stated that a reinstall of the last OSX combo update might do the trick. He was speaking of the 10.5.5 combo update so I figured it should be the same for the 10.4.11 combo. I did not know that you could install an update over the existing OS which has already been updated. I am always learning. BINGO! The Elph connected immediately. Thanks to APPLE DISCUSSIONS, I still have a bit of hair left and a wife who loves me. I hope maybe this post will save the hair of someone else.

  • IPhoto not seeing camera, only in my account

Hello all, I had recently started having a problem with our old Sony camera where when I plugged it in it would launch iPhoto, and that was it. It did show up as a mass storage device, but iPhoto wouldn't import unless I did it manually. I figured it was the camera, as it had other issues from being dropped.
So today I bought a new Canon PowerShot A590. So I plug that in and... same thing. So I try Image capture, and that doesn't see it either. So I install the Canon software, and that works.
Then I tried my wife's iBook running Tiger, and both iPhoto and Image Capture saw the camera. So then I went back to my G4 and logged in as root, which I only use for trouble shooting. iPhoto launched and saw thew camera and asked to import the photos. I tried repairing permission, deleting pref files, etc, to no avail. Also, since the Canon doesn't mount, I can't do a manual import.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Computer does not recognise camera to import photos

I have always imported photos from this camera without any problems, on this computer.
Today it will not import/show up on the computer or iphoto.
I have nearly 10,000 photos in iphoto.
Have also tried image capture, which does not regognise the cam, please help
    g4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   iphoto 5

    I have a panasonic DMC-LX2.
I seem to have solved the problem.
The power save button was on '5 minutes', when I turned it off the images were able to be imported!
I have been deleting items from my library to cut down on any future problems.
I now have around 8,600 photos.
I am going to remove all to an external Lacie hardrive.
Thankyou so much for your help.

  • IPhoto Not Recognised in Other Applications

    Hi there,
I really need help here and step-by-step guidance would really be appreciated.
First, I saw the article relating to this on the website and it didn't solve the problem (new xml file).
Originally I had iLife 2006 installed and I upgraded to iLife 2008. No problems prior to the upgrade.
Now, in iMovie, for example, I can no longer access my iPhoto library, it is greyed-out and inaccessible. I am using 10.4.10 with the latest iLife updates, iPhoto is 7.1, (v347).
Upon reading other posts it seems I should make a back-up of the iPhoto library. Please assist me by providing details on how to safely accomplish this.
Thanks so much in advance. Any help and guidance is very much appreciated.
    Lynn

    Lynn:
You're referring to accessing iPhoto via the Media browser in iMovie and other iApps, right. Try the following:
1 - delete the following preference files:
    com.apple.iApps.plist
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iPhoto.plist
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
Also the preference file for the other iApps that can't see iPhoto.
These are located in your User/Library/Preferences folder
2 - launch iPhoto first, then iMovie and iDVD.
See if that will jump start the Media Browser.

  • Iphoto wont recognise camera

iphoto 5.0.4 which i installed as part of i-life 05 wont detect my digital camera, but the same camera is detected by my friends ibook running iphoto 5.0.4 (she has OSX 10.4) and also by my wifes ibook running iphoto 4.0.3 (hers is OSX 10.3.9). I have had trouble with detecting certain cameras since i installed i-life 05, before then it was fine... what can i do?

hi, thanks for replying. everything is connected properly etc, the camera is an olympus which works fine with my wifes mac and my sisters too. i did open system profiler and the usb is showing the camera connected so it makes me think there is a software problem. i opened imagecapture (version 2.1.0) and it doesnt detect the camera, what to do now? should i replace imagecapture? i have tried software update but i apparently have the latest version.
    thanks
    Hello, kperrow,
    Welcome to the discussions!
Hope you find many helpful suggestions and
    information here.
What type of camera is giving you trouble?
Are you connecting directly to your ibook or through
a hub? If you are trying it with a hub, try directly
connecting to your ibook. See this thread:

  • IPhoto not recognizing camera...

I believe that since I've upgraded to the latest version, iPhoto has ceased to launch and/or recognize that my camera is connected (Kodak CX7530). It's never been an issue before. Is anyone else having this problem?

Don't have that problem but a possible workaround until a fix is found would be to use Image Capture to view and upload the files to the desktop where they can be imported into iPhoto.

  • Added a photo but iPhoto not recognising it as a face in my library

Ive added a few pics, these of of people who already are tagged in Faces.
ive been to the faces source list, and the pic isnt there in any of my faces, how do I make iPhoto pick it to be one of them, it doesnt even come up with a suggestion.
if I pick the photo, it ask me to add a missing face, but it isnt a missing face as its already in my Faces source?
    Am I missing something here?
    cheers

select the new photos one by one and click names in the tool bar -it the face has a square on it click it and name it - it it doesn't click on the add a face and put a square n it and name it
iPhoto does not always identify every face - sometimes you still have to do it manually
