IPhoto 08 photo book adding map

My iPhoto 08 program does not give me the option to add a map. I understand iPhoto 09 has more capability with maps, but doesn't iPhoto 08 allow a map at all? Under the "layout" tab, map is not an option.

No, it's a feature added to 09.

  • Compare quality and features between aperture3 and iPhoto 11 photo books

Are photo books created in either aperture3 or iPhoto 11 the same or does one software program produce a better end result?

I only discovered my problem AFTER I had uploaded my book for printing.  i went back and tried to create a PDF to save and discovered my problem.  It had looked fine on the screen and I never received any sort of error message during the upload. I contacted Apple and they looked at what had been uploaded and saw that it was corrupted like my PDF so they canceled the order.  I then went thru the process of rebooting in safe mode and tried a preview before uploading the second time. I called Apple again and they said the uploaded file appeared to be fine this time -- I have not received the book yet, but I am hoping it looks alright after printing.  I experimented last night with making a duplicate of the original book project, then changed the template on the duplicate to Large instead of XL (everything else was the same as far as template style and color), then I ran a preview of that duplicate -- there were no corrupted files in the preview.  It appears to me that the problem is not with corrupted photo files in my library but has to do with the size selection -- no XL books.  When converting from Large to XL, the photos and their pkacement were exactly as the original but the size and location of all the Text alterations I had made to the original had been changed in the duplicate and would require editing again. This was the only difference in the two.  Until Apple resolves this issue with another update, I suggest you either create only Large books and avoid XL -OR- boot in "safe mode" to send the XL book to print.  I hope Apple corrects this issue soon because the XL books really are beautiful and it seems ridiculous to have to reboot everytime you want to purchase a book.  Hope this helps.

  • IPhoto 11 photo book save placed photos

I made a photobook for my client.  She likes it.
I took over 150 photos and used 48 photos for the book.
In the photobook screen, the photos I placed in the book are check marked.
The ones not used are clear.
Is it possible to extract only those placed 48 photos and put them in a separate album?
I am trying to avoide going through all 150 photos and try to find the 48 used ones.
Is there a simple highlight, drag and drop kind of procedure?
    Thank you.

There is a way.  If you don't have any other photos flagged in the library you can go thru the pages and flag each photo in the book. To flag the photos you need to get into the edit mode and then use the Photos ➙ Flag Photo menu option.  The next photo in the book can be brought into the edit mode by using the forwared arrow on the keyboard. Create a smart album with the criteria Photo is Flagged and you'll have all of the book photos grouped in that smart album.
Or you can use ratings which is easier as you don't need to go into the Edit mode.  Click on each photo on a page and use the Photos ➙ My Ration menu option to assigna a specific rating to the photos in the book:
If your library has photos other than that apply to your client you might want to consider this tutorial for this book, iP12 - Archiving an iPhoto 9 (11) Book for Editing and/or Ordering at a Later Date, for this book and using a separate library for future books.

  • Iphoto 08 Photo Books...awesome

Hi...since forums are often used for complaining...I wanted to share a very positive experience. I had an IPhoto Photo book printed by Apple Print Services. I sent the files Sunday and just got the book today delivered to the door. Quality : I'm really surprised. For the price, I was not expecting something like that. This book is awesome with a hard cover and the images quality is very great with an excellent accuracy with what I have on my screen.. Don't hesitate to try those services. This is the first time for me and it won't be the last one.
    Cheers !!
    Ben

I completely agree with the above poster. Prior to ordering my book for the first time I was hesitant. I placed my order on July 21 and received my book on 25 (Toronto). I am very very satisfied with the crisp clarity of the images (the full page pictures look stunning). I think it's reasonably well priced as well. I strongly recommend having at least a few of these books to impress your friends and family. lol.
Note: I am not (though I wish I were) paid to express my support. It is just darn good.
    Take care!

  • I want to share an iPhoto project (Photo book) across a local network

I have an iPhoto Photo Book on my wife's iMac which I want to bring over to my iMac (both on iPhoto 11).  I have all the Sharing settings correct and can share her entire iPhoto Library except her projects!

If you follow the directions in this tutorial you can get a library with just the book and its pictures which will be small enough to easily copy over to your wife's Mac where she can work on it:
#9a - Archiving an iPhoto 7(08)/8(09)/9(11) Book for Editing and/or Ordering at a Later Date
Of course she'll have to add any additional photos herself

  • Problems with editing text in iPhoto's Photo Book

Having clicked 'vertical direction' when editing text on the cover of my photo book, I can no longer edit text. The original text that was there is still there, horizontal, and I cannot get rid of it. Does anyone know how to reverse this?

Firstly check how the indents are done in Word. If You don't have Word to check it then Show Hidden Characters in InD and check it there– sometimes authors or editors of the text use different methods to indent text (tab characters, spaces or Word styles etc–there are many ways to do that). You can correct it all in InD. I've never seen anything get lost in .doc import but I always see when editor does unlogical things when writing. Indent must be always controlled by paragraph style. Maybe imported text paragraphs are using different imported styles? Check paragraphs in InD do they have indents in their style or not. Create Your own style with indent and mark Your paragraphs with Your style. Only way to control your text is through your styles.

  • IPHOTO 08 - PHOTO BOOK TABLE OF CONTENTS

    Hi all,
I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro and am building a couple of photo books. Does anyone know whether any of the book styles give me the option to include a contents page or index of the photos shown in the book, or is there an easy way to get a list?
    Thanks for you help!
    Jane

    jane Reid
Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
None of the books have a "table of contents" but many of them have a layout page that is all text so you could make one - or you could make an index
For a complete listing of the layouts our for each theme see Liz Castro's web site - http://www.lizcastro.com/iphotobookthemes/pmwiki.php?n=Main.HomePage
As to getting a list of the photos - the thumbnails along the top of the project page is as close as there is to a list

  • How can I export/save my iphoto'11 photo book pages as actual images of the pages (jpeg), not PDF?

I have 'printed' the book as a PDF, but would like to get a jpeg version of each actual page (not the individual photos). So far, I have tried 'exporting', but that gives me each pic individually, sharing-same thing.
My goal is to upload the finished pages onto a family website.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Open the PDF file in Preview and start a Print job.  In the Print window click on the PDF button and then in the resulting menu select Save PDF to iPhoto. That will create a jpg version of each page and import it into an album of your choosing in iPhoto.
This is what you'll get in iPhoto after the import:
Note:  As soon as the book has been processed into iPhoto select all of the pages and use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Title to Text menu option to rename the pages as "Page " with the option to include a sequential number at the end.  That's because the jpgs that are created have really crazy file names which will make it difficult to get in order if they ever get out of order.

  • Iphoto's Photo Books and Ipad

I have recently decided to use my ipad as my photo album and was wondering if there was a way to put the books that I made in iphoto on to the ipad.To do this currently I have to use PDF format to view them but I was wondering if I could use the lovely page turning idea from ibooks on the iphoto books that I have made. Is there a setting that I can turn on or a way to save it in the format that I would need to do that. I already no the trick into putting the PDF into itunes but I would really like the ibooks format to be there is there anyway to turn this on or download it or is it in iphoto 11.

Not that I am aware of - suggest to Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback

  • IPhoto - uploading photo books for printing

iPhoto crashes when trying to upload a Photobook for printing...driving me mad!
    any ideas follks.
The Photobook assembles, but wont upload.
    Thanks in advance..

This was an excellent suggestion previewing the book at
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 -
and then booting up the computer in safe mode. When I did this I found that several of the fonts had changed and would have ruined the book as they were too big or small or didn't fit the text boxes. I repeated this process until I was satisfied. The pdfs were fine.
Best of all the book was printed exactly as I laid it out.
Apple's turnaround was amazing: just over a week! Really good for getting a book to a small West Coast island in Canada.
Even though Apple's book production is very good it is limited in layouts for each style. BLURB offers a bigger range of layout options as well as a choice of printing papers which is a nice touch. I didn't use them this time because some posters had had delays in getting their books and I had to meet an birthday deadline.
Kudos to Apple for making the book in such a short time.

  • IPhoto crashes after added map to photo book

    Hi,
I have been creating a photo book in iPhoto (the current version) which I've spent a fair bit of time working on and customising over the last couple of weeks. I had pretty much completed this book when I decided to add a map to one of the pages (the bright green map). It added ok, but when I went to scale it to zoom out a bit it kept crashing iPhoto. I instead tried choosing one of the other themed maps and zoomed out to the distance I wanted. I then thought I would try go back to the bright green map to see if it would work now, it didn't and iPhoto crashed. Now, every time I open iPhoto and click on my photo book it crashes iPhoto without loading the book at all. I can't access or edit the photo book since making this change to the map.
Any support would be greatly appreciated as I've put a fair bit of time into this photo book and am hoping I haven't lost this for good. Even if I am able to just get the page layouts back if possible would be great.
    Thanks!
    Dan

One of the map layouts is causing these crashes. The problem is, that you cannot remove the map, since you cannot open the book for editing.
    See this discussion
iPhoto crashing one specific Book Project
Your only hope to save your book is, to restore your iPhoto library from the most recent Time Machine backup you made, before you added the map.
Otherwise delete the book to make the library usable again and start over. You can probably not select the book in the source list to delete it. create two more empty books and drag them directly before and after the broken book. Then select the range of all three books and delete them.
See this post:  Re: iPhoto crashing one specific Book Project

  • Adding places to map in a photo book

I'm having trouble adding some places to a map of the Grand Canyon area in a photo book I'm creating, and I'm looking for some help.
I can create a map that will show some of the places we went, like Las Vegas and Sedona, but when I click on the design tab for the map and try to add some other places, it doesn't work. I can actually add a name to my list of places, like Monument Valley, but when I click on the box next to the place, nothing happens and it's not added to my map. I don't know why it would add the place to my list but not allow me to select it so I can add it to my map. Thanks for any help.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
when I click on the design tab
You're referring to the map page of a book? Are you clicking on the "+" button to allow you to add a new location?

  • .Issue with creating a photo book in Iphoto error message states some frames are missing images, but I've checked each one and from I can see they are all filled in. It won't let my buy the book though

Having an Issue with Creating a photo Book in Iphoto. I continue to get an error message when clicking on "Buy Book" The error indicates that I'm missing a frame or frames from the book. I've checked this many times and cannot locate the issue. The book appears to be complete from my perspective. What can I do now? I worked very hard on this and would hate to lose it all.

How did you check the book? Did you preview it?
    See:
iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture
    Is that the message?
"your book seems to have frames on one or more pages that do not contain photos. You must either change the layout of those pages or place photos in those frames before you can buy this book."
The most common reason for this error is, that you have used a page layout that needs a background photo and you have not yet added the backdrop. Then the book is still showing some default grayscale image.
Check, if one of your page layouts is using this background:
Then you need to add a photo to the background of the page.

  • Extra-large photo book available for iPhoto 08?

Can anyone tell me if I can create an extra large size photo book with iPhoto '08? I see online that extra-large (Size: 13x10 inches) is available, however in my iPhoto this option is not there (only large Size: 11x8.5 inches). Do I have to upgrade to iPhoto '09 in order to get that?
    Thank you.
    Irina

If I'm understanding this correctly, is there a work around, i.e. perhaps just purchasing the iPhoto upgrade to 09?
The only way to upgrade iPhoto is to purchase the iLife suite. There is no way to purchase an update to iPhoto alone.
It is surely contraindicative to me to not allow iPhoto 08 users to order a book that costs $50 instead of one that costs $30 without first spending $80 to upgrade!
Contraindicitative or not, adding the feature of the extra-large book means extra coding of the app, extra product testing and all the hoohaa that goes with releasing an update, and all of these are a cost. Extra features are an incentive to upgrade. Adding them to legancy versions lessens that incentive. I know of no software developer that adds features to an app after a newer version has come out.
it does not make economic sense for me to spent $80 just to be able to purchase something larger in size.
A calculation only you can make for yourself.
