Iphoto 08 - photos not loading

Someone, please help!
I was in the process of moving iphoto to an external drive (RAID 1) in order to free up some space on my desktop.
I copied iphoto library to my external drive then renamed the original iphoto library as iphotolibrary.old
Photos were showing in both libraries.
I have not yet deleted any version of iphoto.
I shut the computer down overnight with the intention of completing the process the next day.
It was then that I realised that the mac had not shut down properly and asked me to restart. This then brought me to a black screen telling me that there was a shut down error and to press and hold the back button to close the mac down, then turn it on again to restart.  I did this.
Now when I launch iphoto (either from the internal or external hard drive), all the events, thumbnails and photos are greyed out. All items are still there according to the item and event count, and the photos still show in screensaver mode.
I have tried rebuilding the thumbnails (after quitting iphoto then holding cmd alt and relaunching) but it doesn't make a difference.  I also don't have enough memory to rebuild the whole library.
Incidentally, I have noticed an additional iphoto library icon appear on my internal hard drive, measuring only 50.6MB compared to the original 115.92 GB.
What shall I do????  Please someone, help
Thank you

Hi LarryHN
Thanks so much for your response..
Yes, the external drive is formatted for mac - it was working with no probs yesterday.
Yes, I have been switching libraries as you suggested but regardless of which is selected, the photos won't open
I have also tried to restore an earlier version of iphoto library from my time machine back up but there is not enough space on my internal hard drive to do this....

  • Iphoto does not load into iDVD- too many photos?

Recently upgraded to Leopard 10.5.6 and iLife '09. Ever since, iPhoto will not load into iDVD (iphoto 8.0 and iDVD 7.0.3). When trying to open current and new projects in iDVD, the project opens, and plays, but the photos from iPhoto never load, the loading icon just spins on and on. When I open a new document, the same thing happens. Tried trashing preferences in both programs, reinstalling iLife, and reparing permissions. All software updates are current. Still won't work.
I am starting to wonder if it has to do with the number of photos I have in iPhoto, which is about 4000. The photos loaded with no problem until I upgraded. Could it be that the upgrades in iPhoto just make the files too large, and it's too much to expect that many photos to load? Does anyone know how many photos is too many,— or can you suggest anything I have not tired that might work?

This is from Mac Help. It is a good idea to create another account to use in troubleshooting situations such as this. After you create the new account, open iDVD from that account. Try creating a small project to see if you are having the same problems. Post back with your results.
_Adding a new user account to your computer_
You can create individual user accounts for each person who uses your computer. Each new user has a separate home folder and can adjust his or her own preferences without affecting other users.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts.
If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
Click Add and type the user's name.
If you don't want to use the short name generated automatically, type a new short name. (Once the account is created, you won't be able to change the short name.)
Type the user's password in the Password and Verify boxes.
Type a hint to help the user remember the password if they have trouble remembering it at login.
Click Parental Controls and select options to determine what the user can do with the computer.
If you change your mind while you're creating a new user account, click Delete to cancel.

  • IPhoto Will not Load even after reinstall

All of a sudden, iphoto will not load....I receive this error:
Iphoto cannot be loaded because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure that iphoto works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application.  Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.
I reinstalled iphoto from the disk (so now I have iphoto and iphone (original) .....i reboot and then try to access the new iphoto....same error.  iphoto library appears ok. I can still attach a pic via "photo browser" button in email.

I was able to get it fixed. I had received some responses and they had me
recreate the library I believe.  It's been a while so I cant remember
exactly what I did. I have since upgraded to the latest i photo version and
have had no problems with it.

  • Iphoto library not loading

Iphoto has not loaded since about 44 unwanted photos were sent to trash from the library file in pictures. I have since read the piece on tamper. But can anyone tell me if and how I can fix this? The files are still in 'trash'. Cheers.

Hope someone out there could help me out. I was working with iPhoto trying to import pix onto my new iMac G5 from a card reader. Kept trying to load but nothing happened. Turned off the computer to try again. When I restarted it the iphoto icon was gone from the dock (instead I had a icon that was white sheet of paper with an"A".) When I opened the new icon, I recieved the message "YOu cannot open the application "iPhoto" because it may be damaged or incomplete." Can't find my pix; not in the trash, either. I tried to rebuild a library but now the new library is empty. Can't figure out what happend to my 3000+ pix . I also went to my external hard drive and the pix aren't there either. HELP! Anyone? (I am a brand new Mac user after using PC for 20+ years.) Please tell me there is hope.

  • Iphoto will not load

Iphoto will not load and has not opened since my Mac book pro was new.  It will just stick in the start up mode with the pinwheel spinning, (no color, large wheel)  I am running os x lion 10.7.2, updated iphoto software to 9.2.1 and tried trashing iphoto.plist file with no luck.  Any ideas?  Thanks, Keith

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Iphoto photos not opening get black exclamation mark

iphoto photos not opening get black exclamation mark when open thumbnails

Not sure what you meant by "missing till" but all of the photos and movies are there. I concluded that searching for several photos by their file name and then opening them with Preview.
I'm pretty certain that I only used the Picasa desktop app to test using the Picasa web service for some family photos. I don't think I used it to edit any photos in the iPhoto library but I suppose it's possible that I did without really thinking about it.
Why to I have tiffs?  - As far as I know I don't. They are all jpg or mov files. I can't imagine why that error dialog said I was missing a tiff.
I just noticed based upon your suggestion to review the package contents. I have folders for Modified and Originals which I've seen before. But I also have folders for Photos - Modified and Photos - Original. I haven't seen those last two before. Moreover, all but 6 of my latest photos are in those last two folders. iPhoto can show me their thumbnails but can't open them. iPhoto can open the 6 photos in the "Original" folder. I didn't notice that before because they represent a very small portion of my library and I didn't select the right photos.
iPhoto Library Manager could see only those 6 photos in the Original folder. There are none in "Modified". So iPLM obviously can't see the photos in Photos - Modified or in Photos - Original. Looking at the Info for these two folders, I see they were created on January 7, well more than a month before I downloaded Picasa. Somehow all but 6 of my photos got moved to these new folders. I must have done something to cause this but I have no clue what.
Sorry this is so long but usually details are important. Do you recommend that I use the Merge Libraries function in iPLM?
    Thanks!

  • IPhoto library not loading since lion upgrade

    Hi,
Since upgrading to lion, iphoto will not load the iphoto library anymore. iPhoto starts with the error message "your iphoto library is either in use by another application or you don't have permissions...". iPhoto was perfectly running on 10.6 (a few days ago) and luckily i have some time machine backups from before the lion upgrade.
    So i tried
-to start iphoto with option+control and rebuilt the library. Unfortunately it stops with item 9000 or something.
-tried to rebuild the library with iphoto library manager, but it causes so many problems with duplicates that i stoped the process. I guess it would probably fix the library but too much hassle.
-tried to restore the library from time machine -> same error message
Has anyone experienced same behaviour after upgrading to lion? It's too bad i can't just restore from the backup (i thought that's the point of having it) but may lead to the idea, that the iphoto application might be corrupted. I tried to download the ilife image from my university's software distribution server again, but last but not least, lion does not support the server version anymore "the version of server you are trying to connect is not supported...." So no download right now...
Thx for any help and hints
    regards, dorian

    Hello,
I am having this extremely frustrating problem as well. My iPhoto was working perfect two days ago and today after installing an upgrade (i always keep up with them) it refuses to load and all i get is a white gear looking shaped loading symbol.
    Help anyone....??
    Thanks!

  • Photos not loading correctly, distorted colors, lines, etc.

So, my wife's Macbook is having a problem... it will not load pictures correctly in iPhoto or from the Finder. to give you an idea of what the pictures look like, see here:
    http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v1949/149/17/633596272/n63359627222288712218.jpg
Every time you remove the drive/ camera it will change how messed up it is, and sometimes the pictures come through fine... it's not the camera, as we have tried her old and new camera, and it loads fine on another computer, just not on hers.
She's got a macbook loaded with the latest version of the OS with all the updates... she is running an old (5.5 I think) version of iphoto, which could be a problem, but it's hard to say because they load wrong even if you do not open iphoto... the only way I can get the pictures to load correctly on her computer is by opening them from the image capture application... they open fine inside the program, but once you download the images to the computer, they look messed up again, like in the linked photo...
It definitely seems like a software related issue, maybe an incompatible codec associated with iphoto, or something else...
I've tried trashing the iphoto prefs, and I don't know how long ago this started and AFAIK, there hasn't been any software installed that should create a conflict...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Will

I just moved quicktime components to the trash to where quicktime will not load or work at all,
What won’t “load or work at all”? Quicktime Player?
I don't think that all of the imaging on the computer goes through quicktime somehow, that is a bit ridiculous and far fetched to think that...
“ridiculous and far fetched”, like confusing QuickTime Player with the Quicktime technology? But what the heck, why don’t you explain to me how it all works then?

  • Bridge Web Gallery Photos Not Loading

Just upgraded from CS4 to CS6.  I had been using the Create Web Photo Album command in CS4 which of course is no longer available.
So, opened Bridge and created an HTML Web Gallery.  The HTML Gallery looks great and when I open it with DW locally it works fine in preview mode.  After uploading the gallery to the server, the gallery page layout is there but the thumbnails don't load.  Page is functional and when I click on one of the thumbnails its large pic page opens but again the pic does not load. The images, both the thumbnails and large images, upload OK and are present on the server.
Here is a link to the album page:
    http://ashlandhiking.org/badlink.html
I also tried two other gallery formats; Standard and Lightroom Flash.  Both of these worked fine after uploading.  So it appears to be a problem associated with the HTML gallery.  I tried changing the page doc type to HTML 5 and HTML 4, to no avail.
    Please help. Thanks.

It's funny: I had just posted to someone else that they should update to 7.1 to get the web gallery to upload. I didn't realize I was not up all they way myself. So now I'm at 7.1.1.
Problem was, I still had upside down photos.
So the work around I employed was to export the edited photos out, delete the photos within iPhoto, then re-import the edited photos back in. Ah, now they show properly.
Not my favorite solution, but what are you going to do?
I still suspect there might something within the web gallery functionality, which wants to upload the Originals and not the Modifieds. Thoughts anyone?

  • Iphoto 11 not loading from nikon

I am using iphoto 11  Recently when I try to load from my nikon, all I get is the spinning wheel.  It sees the camera but will not load pictures as it has done on so many occasions.  I have a mac book pro with mac os x 10.6.8   Any suggestions.   Thanks    Thom

Give image capature (in your applications folder) a whrill or if your camera mounts to thge desktop drag the photos to a desktop folder and import from there
Once you have the photos safe use the camera's format command to reformat the memory card - this is a good work flow - never have iphoto delete your photos but import them and after at least one backup cycle use teh format command to erase and renew the card's format
