IPhoto 08 Preferences in Leopard

Have a glitch changing tabs in the preferences window now that I've upgraded to Leopard. When I click on a new category of preference, the window jumps up and down for a second. Anyone else having this problem?

Andy:
I don't see anything like you're experiencing. Try deleting the iPhoto preference file and empty the iPhoto cache folder in the User/Library/Caches folder. Also run disk utility and repair disk permissions.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • HELPPP !!! ......... it's about iPhoto 6 and Snow Leopard.

Please help. I have a Macbook 10.4.11 [Tiger] and it will soon be upgraded to Snow Leopard. I am planning on buying the $29 Snow Leopard [cheaper], instead of the $129 box set.
My questions are: 1) Will I still have my iPhoto 6?
    2) Can I still use iPhoto 6 with Snow Leopard?
    OR
    3) Do I *have to buy* the box set?
My partner had iPhoto 9, which had problems and from what I can tell, iPhoto 11 is much better, but it still has a lot of bugs. Thanks!

Thank YOU! That was fast. [wow, my username {funny}--- Puto, *i meant* Pluto]
Should I back-up everything on DVD, wipe my hard drive clean, reinstall Tiger and its iLife disk [which has iPhoto 6] and THEN install Snow Leopard? Does this sounds like a good idea? +Of course install my back-ups after Snow Leopard.+
I heard/read that the above is better for Snow Leopard cause it runs better this way on the older Macbooks.

  • Iphoto '08 preferences

Trying to stop duplication of photos from my hard disk and each time I try to access preferences, I get nothing (mac thinks for a few seconds and then I end up back at iphoto as if I had not tried to select preferences. Is this a bug?

    John:
It's sort of a bug. Open Image Capture, change it's preferences for which application to launch when a camera is connected from iPhoto to none and close IC. Then reopen IC and reset the preferences to what you want.
Now try iPhoto's preferences. Others have reported that messing with IC's prefs fixed iPhoto's.

  • Versions of iMovie and iPhoto compatible with Snow Leopard

I finally managed to reinstall iMovie and iPhoto into the Snow Leopard side of my hard drive (I have partitioned it into Snow Leopard and
Mountain Lion). I want to use the last versions of both that are still compatible with Snow Leopard, but I don't want to download any updates that will take me into Mountain Lion territory. The iMovie version that I have downloaded is 8.0.4 (807), and the iPhoto version is 81 (415).  What versions are only compatible with Mountain Lion?

    Mende1,
If I understand you correctly, I can get the most advanced versions of iMovie and iPhoto in iLife 11. Furthermore, there is no danger of updating to the point that they will no longer be compatible with Snow Leopard. If I had known that before,I could have saved myself a great deal of trouble, and I could have done it long ago.  Well, live and learn.

  • I want to download iPhoto compatible with  Snow Leopard 10.6.8

I want to download iPhoto compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Which is the suitable version?

Thanks. No I don't own a version of iPhoto11, although I was using iPhoto on my iMac Duo2 (late 2006) - operating system Lion or Mountain Lion I seem to remember - until the hard drive packed up. A few days ago I bought  a Snow Leopard installation DVD from Apple Shop online and yesterday successfully put it on a My Passport for Mac external drive (£49 from Maplin), a much cheaper option than replacing the internal hard drive. No-one from Apple Support had suggested this!!!
Everything is working fine but I am missing my iPhoto.  iTunes downloaded free online works well.  I have a packed-full Iomega portable hard drive which I had backed up using Time Machine for the past several years.
Do you think I could get a compatible iPhoto from this

  • Iphoto 11 and Snow Leopard - problems

With iphoto 11 and Snow Leopard, I now have a complete mess. Most of my photos and events are totally mixed up, out of any recognizable order.

Make sure iPhoto is fully up to date (version 9.1.3), Load your iPhoto library backup and convert your library again
Or provide a lot more information than "my library is a mess" - maybe there is some assistance that someone can give you if they know more

  • IPhoto'09 and Snow Leopard

I just installed Snow Leopard and when I tried to use iPhoto's slideshow, it freezes. The slideshow feature does not work any more.
I tried deleting the iPhoto preference file, and nothing...
I Created a new account and made an iPhoto Library there, Imported some pics and the problem is still there
Can anyone help me with this problem ?
    Thanks

I'm having similar problems editing photo with the following characteristics:
    (1) scanned photographs imported into iPhoto as jpeg files,
    (2) photos imported into iPhoto as tiff files
    (3) photos from an iPhone
    (4) photos that were in iPhoto before upgrading to Snow Leopard, that were editable, but now are not.
This problem occurred after upgrading to Snow Leopard.
    Other symptoms include:
    (1) When editing a photo, the screen goes blank, and it is impossible to see the photo being edited.
    (2) If the screen is blank, then choosing the "slider" for size, the preview of the thumbnail of the photo is visible showing the window inside the area of the photo being edited, but the larger editing window remains blank;
    (3) If a photograph is cropped in a strange shape, such as 1 inch by 7 inches, then the resulting photo stretches and distorts to fit into the cropped area, instead of simply being cropped;
    (4) If a photograph being edited presents a blank space, then choosing "crop" will sometimes make the photo show up, but after the crop is made, the photo "jumps back" to what it originally was;
    (5) For photos that are visible in the editing window, none of the effects work. (contrast, saturation, sharpness, etc. --- none have any effect).
    (6) If a photo is exported as a tiff file then re-imported, then still the tiff file will not edit.
Note that I attempted to edit a few exported photos using Ohana's "Funtastic Photos" software, and the editing works fine. Therefore, I have concluded that:
Conclusion: The upgrade to Snow Leopard has disabled iPhoto 8.1 (415)'s editing capabilities.

  • Videos won't play in iPhoto now that Snow Leopard is there

I am finding one thing after another that won't work with Snow Leopard -- my fonts, my trackpad, and now my iPhoto videos. When I double-click on the videos, they no longer open in QuickTime or do anything, they won't play. Any suggestions? (Uninstall Snow Leopard?)
    Thanks in advance.

This is a known glitch between earlier versions of iPhoto and 10.6. The solution is to install QuickTime 7. It's on the Snow Leopard installer disk.

  • IPhoto not open in Leopard

    Hi ALL,
Probable he wrong forum, but I have iPhoto 2 an is NOT opening in Leopard.
Is there a link where i Can download a iPhoto version that runs in Leopard?
Or can I extract it from a original install CD from a OSX version that I own. Like Jaguar - Panther - Tiger ??
Thanks for helping me out in this matter ...
    Dimaxum

You need at least iPhoto 4 or later to run iPhoto in 10.5.
The only way to upgrade from v2 is to purchase an iLife package.

  • Recovering an old iPhoto library from a Leopard Time Machine backup

    Hello
I have an mini lacie usb disk with some old TM backups from an imac when it was running Leopard a few years back. The imac is now running Lion. There's a problem with the Lacie disk, however, - invalid key length etc Disk Utility can't repair the disk.
Is there any way to recover just the iphoto Library (58GB) from the last Backup that was made on that disk?
If I just try and drag the iPhoto icon across from the last backup I get a permissions issue.
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks.

    Sorry, I answered too quickly
I don't think that you can just drag a folder (the iPhoto icon is really a folder) from the TM backup (due to the way TM uses hard links).
You can try to repair the TM Disk with a 3rd party app (i.e. DiskWarrior), as sometimes they can repair what DU cannot.
You can also try an alternative TM interface to see if it can read the TM disk (i.e. Back-in-Time)

  • IPhoto '09 Freezes Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I have iPhoto '09 (fully patched to 8.1.2) running on both my MacBook and MacMini (both on Snow Leopard 10.6.4 with all updates installed).
When editing (usually a zoom operation) a .jpg photo in the iPhoto window or in full screen mode the whole screen interface will freeze, except the mouse pointer still moves and the mac appears and is accessible on the network; just the user interface locks up. This is not just iPhoto, I can't switch to any other app nor open another app. Can't shutdown... nothing.
The only thing I can do is hold the power button for 4 seconds to turn off the machine.
Needless to say, edits to the image are lost.
I have tried repairing or rebuilding the database (holding command+option key when iPhoto starts and selecting the last three tick boxes can't remember them just now)). Also, on the MacMini I have iPhoto Library Manager installed and have tried that to repair the database.
    All this to no avail.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Steve

OK, been a while but I have an update on this one.
iPhoto '09 still freezes up Snow Leopard - on two of my machines. A MacBook[1] and MacMini[1]; I have two other machines, yes, a second MacBook[2] and a second MacMini[2]. All are Intel Core2Duo devices.
The first two, older machines, are the ones that lock up.
I installed Snow Leopard on to an external USB drive on MacBook[1], along with iLife '09 then applied all the latest updates (SL 10.6.4 using the combo update) to both SL & iLife.
Guess what, editing a photo still cause iPhoto & SL to freeze up.
Next, was to use this 'clean' SL/iLife USB drive on MacBook[2] - all works fine, just like that machines own internal system disk.
Digging in to the specifications of the machines, I discover that both the older machines MacBook[1] & MacMini[1] have Intel GMA 950 graphics controllers. However, MacBook[2] has Intel GMA X3100 and MacMini[2] a NVidia GeForce xxx.
So, my conclusion from all this is that there is a compatibility problem with Snow Leopard 10.6.4, iLife '09 (or iPhoto '09 [8.1.2]) and the GMA 950 graphics controller.
Anyone come across this before, or know of a fix?
    Thanks
    Steve

  • Iphoto library management in Leopard

In the previous incarnations of iphoto I had several libraries in a libraries folder on the desktop. Using an iphoto library manager I could access any one of these. Now that I have Leopard all of the libraries come up at the same time when I try to access any one of them. This is a terrible problem for me. How can I get back to accessing each library individually?
    Thanks

    tomdigital
You're going to have to explain that one again:
all of the libraries come up at the same time when I try to access any one of them.
iPhoto can only open a single library at a time.
To choose between libraries hold down the option (or alt) key on launch

  • IPhoto '08 Preferences- opening but not allowing changes and freezing up

My problem with preferences is that it does open up but when I go to change a preference it freezes up and then iPhoto stops responding all together. Can someone please help?
    Thanks!

    Valt74
    Start with the basics:
    1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.
