Can not open iPhoto Preferences when selected from the iPhoto menu. Anyone experience this?

Quit iPhoto and Trash your iPhoto preferences ( "your username" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iphoto.plist) then launch iPhoto - it will recreate a new default preference file

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Then, hold the Option key down when trying to open iPhoto, does it ask where it's Library is? Or what exactly happens? -
IPhoto and iMovie will not open with Mountain Lion upgrade.
Since upgrading to Mountain Lion OS 10.8, my iPhoto and iMovie will not open. I am using a newly purchased MB Air. I re-installed iPhoto from the App Store after trashing my previously installed iPhoto application. IPhoto Library Manager was downloaded as recommended on Apple Support but also will not open. I also tried to trach the iPhoto plist as recommended by a community member. Each application (iPhoto and iMovie) bounces above the dock and message received that application unexpectedly closed. Thank you for any recommendations.

Quit Address Book, and locate the com.apple.AddressBook.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Drag the file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart and check for the availability of Address Book Preferences.

upgraded software today and now system preferences will not open. when i click on it a message says "you cannot open the application 'system preferences' because it is not supported on this architecture". system preferences icon has a circle and slash symbol on top of it. my imac is about 6 months old and have not had a problem with it. all other apps work. please help.

Said that there was an error upon exiting, said the hard drive was damaged. Do you think that is connected to 'system preferences' not opening. Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Odd bug: "keyboard and mouse" within "system preferences" will not open!!
After having to Archive and Re-Install yesterday and installing "X11", I have an odd problem:
- apple+i leads to crashing and restart of "Finder"
- when investigating this I found the "keyboard and mouse" registry in "system preferences" will not open.
Any ideas what could be wrong?
Is there any other remedy short of another Archive and Re-Install?
In the system library I have "Keyboard.prefPane" version 3.13. Clicking on it opens a blank "system preferences" page entitled "keyboard and mouse".

My preferences will not open from the apple menu. Time machine will not open either. I've tried reinstalling Lion, to no avail. Has anyone else had this problem?
I have exactly the same issue. After FF upgraded on its own to version 5, it won't open from start menu, taskbar, desktop icon, or even by pressing firefox.exe in program files directory. It does so by pressing a link at msn messenger, inside Outlook etc.
Disabling all addons, didn't help. Moreover, I can't start FF in safe mode or start profile manager (Start > Run> firefox.exe -ProfileManager).

System Preferences will not open 10.10
After having some amusing issues with 10.10.1, one issue being that System Prefs wouldn't open, I decided to restore the system back to 10.10. Though I can't say yet that this has fixed all my problems, one glaring issue persists: System Preferences will not open. The icon in the dock will bounce for a good minute and "System Preferences" will show up in the upper menu bar, but the actual panel will never load up and the icon (upon right clicking on it) will eventually say "app not responding."
All in all:
I can access System Prefs in safe mode. I have attempted to remove systempreferences.plist. Nothing seems to show up in the console when attempting to boot System Prefs up (besides an excessively long hang report). I have repaired disk permissions. I have no idea when this started. I need to create a second back-up of iPhoto from Time Machine to a separate external drive. The old iPhoto in TM will not open. Please help! And thank you!
Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store -

Quit iPhoto and delete your iPhoto preferences. Go to your username> library> preferences> com.apple.iphoto.plist. Delete this file. Then reopen iPhoto; it will create a new preference file with all of the default settings.

My iphto will not open after I had to shut down my imac due to it not being able to close iphoto . It just says opeartion not able to open.
Try at the very least to update your iPhoto version to 8.1.2.

IPhoto 9.6 will not open in OSX Yosimite 10.10.2
I'm using a MacBook Pro 15inch Early 2011 machine, 2GHz, 8GB RAM, OSX Yosimite 10.10.2.
I have iPhoto version 9.6 and it will not open, just hangs up on the main screen with the little wheel spinning in the middle of it endlessly. No error messages. Program will not start even after several minutes and no other programs running in the background. Any thoughts?what has changed since it worked?
You can Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database
