Iphoto 08 Printing Options limited???

Is it me? or is the new Iphoto in I LIFE 08 more limited in it's printing options.
In 06 and earlier it had options for printing greeting cards, n-up and other options for printing.
Now it seems if you want to take an image ie. and print your own greeting card.. you can only
do a greeting card if you purchase it thru apple ?? is it me or is there something Im missing?
Also wondering how to print to standard Epson or Kodak Photo paper templates from i photo?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. iPhoto 6's greeting cards were difficult to print as they, as the current batch, were based on 7 x 10 inch stock. to print both sides in register one would have to trim the stock to 7 x 10 beforehand and have a printer that would handle 7 x 10 borderless. I don't know of any printers that do support 7 x 10 borderless. It's the same with iPhoto 7.
If you have a 3rd party editor that supports layers, Photoshop Elements, Photoshop or Pixelmator, you can follow Tutorial #8 to print the cards borderless.
The n-up is possible but more difficult to find and execute. See Anastassios T's post in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1142792&tstart=0.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

What happened to the iPhoto print options like backgrounds and borders?

I finally upgraded to Mavericks and, when I went to print a photo, there were no backgrounds or borders like before. Where are they, and how do I get them back?

That is what I have done for quite a while, and it will work well. Only, you have to remember to do it.
And it gets complicated, when you are travelling along a time zone boundary and are continually switching between time zones. I now always take a MacBook Pro with me when travelling, so I can import the photos right away.

The current system time zone setting will only be applied to the images you are importing. iPhoto reads the EXIF dates from the card, say 10:00 am, and then will file it as 10:00 am Paris time, if the time zone is set to Paris. The metadata of other photos will not be changed.
The system time also determines, how iPhoto displays the dates and times in the Info panel. If no time zone tag is displayed, then the dates are expressed in your local time.

The most likely candidates will be the iTunes widget in dashboard or a plugin or another program or script... use Activity Monitor from Utilities and show 'active Processes' this will tell you what is running...

Old HP 1160Le to new Dell Inspiron. Limited print options.

Have just started using new Dell Inspiron, I think Windows 8. Connected with printer in Port 1 with driver for HP Laserjet 1160. Printer works but some print options are not available. Cannot select Print odd number pages or Print even number pages, or Print to File. Probably more limits just not found yet. Have tried looking at defaults, no luck. Tried to find HP Laserjet 1160 Le in wider PC listing, no luck. Yes, the printer is old and just black and white, but has always worked until now. How would you go about adding these printing features or expanding print options in general?

I saw your post about trying to install and use your PSC 750 on your new Windows 8.1 system. After checking the drivers out for this printer, I have discovered that there is no driver available for Windows 8.1. Perhaps try running the HP Print and Scan Doctor to see if that will help with printing. If not, I would then suggest looking into an upgraded printer which will have more up to date software and would most likely function with 8.1.

IPhotos no option to select print quality

iPhotos no option to select print quality,
i keep getting poor prints, after cleaning the printer and calibrating it nothing has changed.
is there an option to select the quality of prints through iphoto?

On the Print dialog, look for options for your printer under Presets. You will see options such as "photo on photo paper - fine" depending on your printer's available features.

Can anyone help with printer options on iPad mini, can I change layout paper size?

I am trying to change the printer options on my iPad mini so that I can print on legal size paper, I also would like to change to portrait layout. Is this an option when printing from an iPad Mini?

I think the same problem exists with all the iOS devices. I suggest you look for a free App from the manufacturer of your printer. It will have limitations, but may include the ability to change paper size and image size and orientation.
There are other printing Apps such as Print n Share that can do that, but they are not free.
The problem you may face, is that such printing Apps can only be accessed from within other Apps that have the "Open In" option. If you can use their built-in programs, they may meet your needs.

IPhoto Printing - sizing problems

After many hours of frustration I am about to give up on iPhoto 7.1 printing. The Print Settings dialog does not match the choices of settings or paper sizes of my printer. I enter a custom size [tedious to have to do when it is a standard photo paper size such as "L"], enter, then when I add a border the paper size reverts to A4. If I don't add a border or otherwise customize the picture, then go to "print" on checking the advanced print options the paper size does not match that set in the "Print Settings" dialog. Even if the preview looks right the print size does not match. I called into my local Apple store and tried this at the Genius Bar - they found the same issue on their Mac and after an hour of head scratching they could not figure it out. Any thoughts? This should be dead easy - I am back to adding borders in PS and printing from Aperture; not what I want to do for snapshots.

What sizes are you trying to print? Are you cropping the images to the paper size selected beforehand?

Can I order iPhoto prints from Malta?

The options menu on iPhoto lets you select a print products store based on your shipping address. Does this mean iPhoto prints are restricted to certain countries only, and will this feature be available in more countries in future? Can I print copies from a UK store and then ship them to Malta?

These are the countries that have Print Product Stores:
You can try setting the store to the UK and order the book from there. Often, however, the credit card used must has a billing address in the same country as the Print Product Store. But give it a try anyway.

Non standard format images from the iPhoto print service

Can anyone tell me how to get the iPhoto print service to leave my images alone? They default to filling their 10 x 8 or 7 x 5 paper sizes. Nowhere on the order form do they tell you they're going to do this and I can't find anywhere to tell them not to.
They also supplied the prints in neat card wallets with "Do not bend" in nice red boxes printed on them. These were then dispatched in a plain white envelope with no such notices on it. Not surprisingly the prints arrived bent!

Printing options changed in new version

Just upgraded to Leopard and a new iMac, but in iPhoto the print options/editing is changed. I hate it! Is there any way to get the old layouts back?
I need to print multiple different pictures on one page in various sizes, borderless. These are not complicated requests--it was easy in the old versions. How do I do it in this version? (7.1.1)

Apple is well aware of this issue , many people have the same issue with this crap for an update, they can't fix it, giving everyone lip service. Just don't buy anything till they fix it.

IPhoto printing on Canon MP640

I'm having problems printing from iPhoto using WiFi. The printed photo in no way resembles the preview: sometimes the prints are cropped, sometimes borders appear on three sides etc. However, when I use the USB connection, the prints are fine. I'm using what I think are the latest drivers (CUPS 10.30.3.0) - any suggestions why the WiFi connection should behave differently and what I can do about it? I'd prefer not to reinstall the drivers, as it took several hours last time and I still don't know what I did to get it right!

The v10.30.3.0 driver is certainly the latest. Check that both the USB and the WiFi print queue are using the same driver version.
What you will notice is that all the selections made in the iPhoto print dialog don't stick when you then get to the next print dialog window. But you should still see a preview of the image at this print dialog and it should still look complete. If you don't see the image, ensure you click the triangle next to the printer name to see the print options.

IPhoto printing service not available in Australia?

Has anyone heard any news as to why the iPhoto printing service is not available in Australia? It's very disappointing as this was a great selling point to me, I just presumed that it may take time to set up, but still nothing...
I can still print calenders, cards & prints off my home printer of course, but it's not the same as professional printing. It seems a shame as the software costs the same for everyone, but we have features that we can't use.
Does anyone know why this is?

No comment on why Apple has not made this service available themselves in Australia, but there are a number of other options. For the ultimate in convenience and excellent quality, you can use digitaldavinci.com.au. They have an iPhoto plugin which will let you send books, cards and calendars to them. So this is pretty much the same as the Apple service anyway, although I think - but haven't checked myself - that the price is a bit higher.
Alternatively, I have had very good results sending a PDF of a book to myreflections.com.au. This is obviously not quite as convenient, but the quality is still very good and the price even better.
So there are definitely printing options available from iPhoto, especially for books, not so much for prints, and at least one option I know of for calendars and cards. I haven't used the calendar or card service though, just the book printing service from both DDV and MyReflections.

IPhoto printing and lack of themes

I have updated to Leopard and hoped the sudden disappearance of printing options using Tiger (only "contact sheet" option available) would be rectified. Sadly, it hasn't.
I succesfully print using Aperture, all the CS3 components and Photoshop Elements 4.
Have reloaded iLife but the "Contact print" option remains the only printing choice.
Help would be appreciated

Check inside your User/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder to see if there's a folder named Themes. If so move it to the HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder and reboot. Then try printing from iPhoto again. That may save you having to reinstall iPhoto again. If you don't find any folder titled Themes then you will have to reinstall iPhoto as I indicated in the link that Terence supplied.

Are there any new printing options in iPhoto 6?
Such as printing the images with file name and/or comment?
Or printing 4 of them on a single sheet of paper and get them in the correct (reading) order?

Interesting thing is that I do not have a Print button at the bottom of my iPhoto window. I can get to the print window via the menu but no print button. The preference file has Toolbarshowprint set to yes but no button. Strange. Where is it on your iPhoto, between which other buttons?
