IPhoto 08 slow to FINISH loading in Leopard

Installed Leopard clean, copied my iphoto library to DVD before the upgrade, then back.
All updates installed.
I start iPhoto, it loads in less than 5 seconds whether in event or photo view. I see pictures immediately. After that, iPhoto locks up for 3 minutes every time, then seems to work OK. It did not do this in 10.4, just 10.5.
Library is around 1100 photos, 60 events.
Is there a way to fix this?

Have Activity Monitor running when you launch iPhoto and check to see what operation is running the most when iPhoto does its hang thing.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Snow Leopard (10.6.8) Web Browser, App Store, iTunes Store image won't finish loading.

    Hello,
I've recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard by clean installing. Once I upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6.3) everything seemed to work perfectly except for the new keyboard that I purchased (requires upgrade to 10.6.8). So as I upgraded to 10.6.8 by "Software Update…".
Once the update was completed and the machine restarted I've noticed when I opened opened couple of common sites in Safari (such as: Flickr, YouTube, and Amazon) and some of the images won't finish loading with a "?" in the middle where the image would be and browser assumes that the site was done loading. First I thought this was a refresh problem so I hit refresh on the browser but nothing really happened. I thought this was strange so I decided to download Google Chrome and Firefox to try it out as well. Same situation as well… Then I opened  the App Store and iTunes Store and the same things happened there as well. I'm assuming that all these images exists online so anything that access the web to load images will just crap out. One odd thing is that this problem don't seem to happen on any of the sites on Apple when I view it in the web browsers.
I couldn't figure out the reason so I decided to reinstall Snow Leopard (10.6.3) again by cleaning out the hard drives as before. Once it finished installing I opened up iTunes Store and Safari and the images loads fine. So went ahead (crossing my fingers) to "Software Updates…" to 10.6.8 and the the problem happened again.
I naively went ahead and tried to clean installing it again, thinking "Third time is the charm!" But same situation once I upgrade to 10.6.8. After the third time I let the browser sit there after it didn't load those images. I waited about five minutes and hit refresh and the images loaded. This happened the same with App Store and iTunes Store images as well. This is very odd because my interment connection hasn't been a changed before I upgraded to 10.6.8. Seems like browsers just cuts off the loading time of the whatever that's lagging instead on that site.
Is there a solution in the preferences for this or is this some kind of a bug that I'm having with my OS disc or network card? I don't think this has nothing to do with my modem or my interment service because it was working fine before I upgraded to 10.6.8.

I get that same problem too-you could try checking your network settings, release and renew your IP address, see if that helps. There is a tweaking menu you can get in Firefox that can help somewhat (google Firefox tweaks) but you'd have to raise the hood in FF and tinker a bit, but it does help. How much RAM do you have on your Mac Pro?, also update your Java and shockwave
sorry I can't be of more help

Do have may photos - is the library too large ? Thanks Pat

Do you have a large number of photos on your iPad? If so try syncing your iPad and remove all but one album of photos. See if iPhoto for iOS will then run. If it does load more albums a few at a time testing iPhoto in between additions. You'll eventually discover the limits.

  • Help systems slow to load in Leopard

Recently, all my applications' help systems have become painfully slow to load - including Leopard's. Any clues?
    Best
    Keith..

Thanks for trying to help - it's much appreciated. This is how I changed my HDD, (though, as previously stated, the problem predates this change).
    - Old disk removed & mounted in a USB housing
    - New 320GB disk installed from the Leopard DVD using the erase & install option
    - Applications & files transferred to the new disk, using the migration utility
    - All applications seem to launch quickly & run fine - iLife, iWork, Office, Logic, Parallels...
The only exception seems to be the help sub-system, which is slow to launch & load new pages - for Finder & other applications. It's over a minute to show the home pages & 20-30 seconds to follow any link. It's almost as if it's looking for on-line help content & timing-out before showing local pages (but I don't know if this is even an option)?!?
BTW, I used to use Cocktail regularly on my G4 PowerBook but never used any similar utilities on the MBP. I have now used IceClean to run the daily/weekly/monthly OSX maintenance 'cron' routines and this has made no difference.

  • After loading Snow Leopard, Firefox has become extremely slow. I have reload FF but no help. Suggestons?

After loading Snow Leopard, FF is extremely slow loading web pages. I have uninstalled and reinstalled FF but this did not help. Any suggestions?

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

  • I had Leopard on may Mac. I upgraded to Mountain Lion using Snow Leopard. I can't use my video with Mountain Lion. Can I load Snow Leopard on an external hard drive so I can use it with my camera?

I had Leopard on may Mac. I upgraded to Mountain Lion using Snow Leopard. I can't use my video with Mountain Lion. Can I load Snow Leopard on an external hard drive so I can use it with my camera?

First, you cannot do this if you have a Boot Camp partition.
    Second: Create a new partition.
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.  (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
    4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
    Third: Install Snow Leopard.
Boot from your Snow Leopard DVD. Follow instructions for installation being sure that before you actually install Snow Leopard you have selected the new partition as your target destination.
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
      1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
      2. Restart the computer.
      3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
      4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo
          appears.
      5. Wait for installer to finish loading.

  • IPhoto Slow, Blank thumbs, double import, did I mention S L O W

iPhoto Slow, Blank thumbs, double import, did I mention S L O W? iMac G5, 768 Ram, I loaded and EDITED 500 photos, went to export. Found thousands of images in machine I never loaded. Attempted to export some photos to flickr (before finding they had a fix). Nothing.
So I did, what any MS user would do, I reinstalled iPhoto. Now there are 500 empty frames, some with ghosts, and 2 sets of newly imported fotos. Tried to do some deleting, but no benefit.
    Any suggestions?

Sorry to hear you're having problems like this - I have 768 MB of RAM on a G4, and I have seen no slowdown with 13,000+ photos.
Could you be more specific with how you arrived at the problem? Here's some questions that come to mind:
    - What kind of images? JPG? RAW? approximately what size and resolution?
    - Blank thumbs are usually a result of things being moved around in the iPhoto library, and the iphoto database loses track of the paths. The golden rule is, never mess with the organization of your iPhoto library from within the Finder.
    - Usually if an application is that slow it is running into problems, so if you launch Console, and then iPhoto, you may see new messages that may indicate a problem.
    - The thousands of images in the machine, that you never loaded, what are they? Are they images that were in your Pictures folder? Did someone else use the computer?
    - What do you mean by double import? If you leave your camera or card reader connected, you will be shown the screen where iPhoto is ready to import. If you choose to import again, you could double-import.
    - If iPhoto finds photos at the root level of its iPhoto Library folder, it may try to import them. If interrupted or if the application is forced to abandon the import, it may try again on relaunch.
    - How did the export to flickr fail? Was it with the blank thumbnails selected?
Maybe information that could answer the above questions, could help me or someone on the discussion board help you figure out what's going on.

  • Why is FireFox so slow to initially load web sites, and then works fine?

The last two updates on FireFox, on my Windows 7 64-bit computer, is very, very slow to connect to web sites (20-30 or more minutes.) Once it does, it works fine. It loads quickly from the cache, and it seems to actually connect to some web sites in the first few seconds before the delay begins. The computer has no malware; using Windows firewall; virus software disabled without solving the problem; using Windows Defender. Other computers on the same home network are having no problems with FireFox.

The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.
Try to decrease the value of the pref <b>network.http.max-connections</b> from 256 to 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.

  • Can't load snow leopard to my mbp it is runing leopard it is saying can't load on this unit?

Can't load snow leopard to mbp. It stops after language selection.

Does you machine meet the system requirements?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4949
Is this a retail Snow Leopard disc from Apple, (the one with the white cat on it, not a grey one from someone else, if it is a grey one it will not work as most of those were designed to be machine specific.
This what the retail disk looks like and you can get it here: http://store.apple.com/us/search/snow-leopard-10.6.8#!!
If it does take your original install disc 1 power up the mac and push in the disc holding the OPTION key. This will bring up the start up manager and allow you which disc to start from, select the install disc. After if finishes booting, select your language, click continue. On the next page in the menu bar select utilities/disk utility. select)highlight) your volume (default name Macintosh HD, unless you named it something else) from the left column, under the First Aid tab click verify disk, if it comes back with errors (they will be in red font) then run Repair Disk, you may have to do this more than once (untill it comes up with this disk seems ok in green font)
Quit out and eject the disc.
Then power off and power back on holding the C key, select your language and follow the prompts

  • Iphoto slow problem - photos are organised in folders not film rolls

I'm suffering from the iphoto slow problem and have been trying to find a way to stop iphoto from loading all the photos every time.
My photos are arranged in folders, so I don't seem to have the option to stop the photos being loaded by film roll.
Does anyone have any other ideas ?

I'm not sure what that means. Whether you have albums or not, iPhoto still considers a single import batch as a roll. If the rolls are not collapsed, then everytime you launch iPhoto, it assumes you want to be able to see your entire library, and it goes about the job of making all the thumbnails available.

  • Products does not appear and sometimes Extension Manager doesnt finish loading

I just installed Adobe Extension Manager CC on my iMac and it keeps on loading for a long time and when its done I see no products but should be seeing photoshop. How can I add it to the list? Plus, sometimes it just doesnt finish loading at all.

Have you moved or renamed Photoshop CC installation folder? Did you install PS CC in the default location or removable drive? Please check "/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CC/Adobe Photoshop CC.app/Contents/Resources/AMT/application.xml" to see whether one or more path in it is incorrect.
For the slow loading issue, please update Extension Manager CC to the latest version (7.1.1) firstly. Then startup it. Click "Tools"->"Preferences" menu item in Extension Manager, check "Enable detailed logging" option. Restart Extension Manager. When it finishes loading or hangs, send all files in  "/Users/<YourUserName>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Extension Manager CC/Log" to [email protected]
Note: The Users Library user folder is hidden on starting with 10.7 or later

  • ColdFusion with IIS URL Rewrite - Page never finishes loading

I am running CF10 on IIS 7.5 with URL Rewrite module installed.
All the rewrite rules work perfectly and ColdFusion is returning the correct pages. In order to get the page displayed in the browser I have to manually set the 'content-length' value in Application.cfc like this:
    <cfcomponent>
    <cffunction name="onRequestEnd">
    <cfheader name="Content-Length" value="#getPageContext().getCFOutput().getBuffer().size()#" />
    </cffunction>
    </cfcomponent>
Without this code the browser does not display the page. However, even though it is now displaying the page, it is not doing it correctly. The page never finishes loading fully and not all of the HTML content seems to be on the page.
I have tried to add a <cfflush> tag after setting the 'content-length' but it makes no difference. I don't understand why this is happening but I know that it has happened to someone else who was using htaccess: http://forums.devshed.com/coldfusion-development-84/page-not-finishing-loading-coldfusion- and-htaccess-bug-575906.html
    Can anyone please help?

    Hi guys,
I would like to do url rewriting on our CF app but am worried I'll break something if I try and do it myself - is there anyone who would be interested in a bit of consultancy to help us achieve this?
    I want to turn http://www.allchichesterjobs.com/search-results.cfm?sector=21&q=part-time-jobs
    into http://www.allchichesterjobs.com/part-time-jobs
I've tried this using IIS and URL Rewrite, when I browsed to http://www.allchichesterjobs.com/search-results.cfm?sector=21&q=part-time-jobs
my browser was redirected to http://www.allchichesterjobs.com/part-time-jobs ok - but then I got a 404 error
I'm wondering if I can pay someone to remote view my screen while we talk on skype and tell me what to do?
Hope it's ok to post this sort of request on here
    Thanks very much indeed.
    Nick

My iphoto will not load, all it does when i open it is just show a blank iphoto and won't load any of my photos that were already in there. Any way to fix it ?

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • After Loading Snow Leopard, printer sharing no longer works

I have 3 macs in the house. Printer sharing always worked until I loaded Snow Leopard.
Now the 2 remote macs just continually say "looking for printer". The primary iMAC prints fine.
I've doubled and triple check the preferences on all 3 machines.
    Please help!

Deleting the printer queues didn't work for me. What did work is deleting the print preferences (anything with "print" or "Printer in the name in user/library/preferences) and deleting anything in the user/library/printers folder on both machines. Then I setup the printer again on both machines. Also, I noticed printer sharing was on on the machine I was trying to share to, so I turned it off, not sure if it matters.
