IPhoto '08 stuck in July, recent events missing

iPhoto 7.1.4 is behaving oddly. The last 12 Months folder is stuck on 08/07/2008 and all the imports since then are missing. The original images are there in the originals folder. I've tried rebuilding the library and using iPhoto Library Manager but still have the same problem with the new library.
I've got over 4000 photos taking up 25G of disk space. Is this the problem?
I have TimeCapsule - could this be to blame some how?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open Photo window
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

I am new to IPhoto 9.51  and I think I missed a step when I uploaded my vacation pictures. I uploaded pictures but did not import them into the library.  They are in L\last imported only.  How can I get them into events?

If the Photos are under 'Last Import' or 'Last N Months' then they are in the Library somewhere, just not where you are expecting them to be. We know this as both Last Import and 'Last N Months' are not places, just listings of elements in the the Library.
The two most common reasons that they can't be found is either an incorrect date on the camera or the Sorting (View Menu -> Sort Photos - or Sort Events, as appropriate) has changed.
Quick route to find them: Right-click on one of the images in Last Import and select 'Show Event'. This will bring you to the image in the Library.

  • IPhoto 09 - some recent events lost after restoring from Time Machine

recently my early-2009 iMac hanged during boot up on the white screen. so i a restore from Time Machine and it works. this freezing occurred twice of the last one week, which i did 2 restore to last backup. then i notice there's an issue with iPhoto 09. i notice some latest events which supposedly been backup during the restore point, appears 'blank'. when i enter Time Machine, i see all previous events but the recent day or two, it just turn out to be black squares, and when i enter the events there weren't any photos but just files with names.
i tested again but loading in a couple of new photos into iPhoto yesterday night, back it up and double check in Time Machine, it is (the new photos) there. about 6-hours later i make a check again (on Time Machine), the photos event became the black square again. this is really a pain for me as i have lost enough photos
i desperately need help on this. anyone?
here a couple of the screenshot from my Time Machine:

    Hello mook,
    So if I understand:
1.) The goal is to restore the iPhoto Library from a point before the issues started happening
2.) When you try to go backwards in Time Machine while inside the iPhoto window you get a blank Library when you get to the date range you want.
    What to do:
    - As you cannot seem to access the iPhoto contents using the iPhoto window I would suggest the following:
1.) Navigate using the Finder to ~/Pictures (or whatever folder you are currently housing your iPhoto Library in)
2.) Rename the current iPhoto Library to something else (Like iPhoto Library Old etc)
3.) While looking at this Pictures window, activate Time Machine and go back in time to a date when YOU ARE SURE iPhoto was working fine and had the images you want
4.) Click on the iPhoto Library in the Time Machine window and click on Restore
-- This will restore the Library from the date in question
-- You will have 2 libraries once the restore is complete. The freshly restored library and the old library. Keep the old library just for safe keeping until such time as you determine you have all the pictures you want. Then you can do whatever you want with it (trash it, etc)
    Hope that helps.

  • Events missing and photos in new iPhoto update

Events missing and photos in new iPhoto update

Moments are the new Events.  All of your events in iPhoto are not Moments in Photo and were also brought over as an album. Open the sidebar with the Option+Command+S key combination and look in the folder titled "iPhoto Events".  There's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When the library was first migrated there was a folder created titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events are represented by an album in the folder.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N.  Name it as desired.  It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.

  • Sometimes after creating an event folder on iPhoto, all my pictures in that event will be gone the next time I open iPhoto. Why is this happening? Is there a way to retrieve the missing photos?

Sometimes after creating an event folder on iPhoto, all my pictures in that event will be gone the next time I open iPhoto. Why is this happening? Is there a way to retrieve the missing photos?
Most events I make on iphoto will still be there the next time I open iPhoto, while other event FOLDERS will be there, but pictures in it gone.

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • "20 most recent events" does not transfer the 20 most recent events

I've always used "sync 20 most recent events" for uploading photos to my iPhone.
Recently I've noticed that the 20 events on my iPhone are not the 20 most recent events. Instead, there are 20 events with certain events missing.
If I look at my events in iPhoto going back in time and compare them with the events on my iPhone, the 6 most recent events are missing completely, then there is an event, then there are missing 2 events, etc.
I upgraded from iPhoto '08 to '09 about 3 weeks ago, but I don't see any link with the missing events. I.e. certain events from before the upgrade are missing and certain from after the upgrade.
I couldn't find this problem already reported in this forum.
What I tried so far, every time without success:
    - in iTunes I selected to NOT sync photos to my iPhone and to remove all existing photos from my iPhone, and after syncing all photos were STILL on my iPhone
    - I deleted the "iPod Photo Cache" folder and when syncing again the exact same events were transferred to my iPhone
Any ideas of how I could fix this and get the 20 most recents events to my iPhone?
Thanks in advance for your help!

FYI ... one other issue I have noticed in my iPhoto. Not sure if the two are related, though.

  • IPhoto '11 Version 9.2 (626) Events not showing up

When I import photos from a memory card into iPhoto '11 Version 9.2 (626), they show up in the Last Import but the event(s) which they make don't show up in the Events view. So the only way I can keep track of the photos is to name them while they're in Last Import view, then do a Search for that name. But according to my Events view, I don't have any Events after 6 October, despite having imported more recent photos from 14th October until today. What's happened to the recent Events?

The most common cause for this is that the photos are in Events, but the Event is not where you expect it to be.
This happens for one of two reasons: In the View -> Sort Events menu, the sorting option is not the one you prefer. Or, the date on the camera is off.

  • Events missing after Sync

    Hi all,
Payed the £12 for the upgrade (Grrrr) and synced with Itunes as I always did. This time however I have loads of my iPhoto events missing, it should sync about 50 events but now only syncs 5 or so. The photo count in the 'Photo Library' section shows the full count of images btw. I've rebuilt the iPhoto library, rebooted, etc and still wont see or let me sync more than a few of the events I have!
    Anybody else having this problem?
    Thanks,
    Anthony

i had the exact same thing, you have to go into the photo syncing options and select to sync events.

  • Aperture sync of most recent events to ipad/iphone not copying most recent

I've just upgraded from iPhoto to Aperture....
When syncing my iPad / iPhone, i used to always sync the 20 most recent events, i now want to sync the 20 most recent projects.
It seems that aperture now does not know which are the most recent projects....
If i view all projects as thumbnails under the projects view, and sort them by date, they ARE ordered correctly... However, when trying to sync only the 20 most recent projects, it seems to randomly select 20 projects.
Also, if i select 'sync projects from the last 12 months' it syncs ALL projects, suggesting to me that it somehow does not know the 'project created' date.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    David

This problem is still ongoing.... Having synced my entire library to my iPad, not having projects in date order is a real pain - and makes finding a certain project very tedious.
Does anyone have any kind of fix for this yet?
Alexander, in what way did Apple acknowledge this problem?
    Thanks,
    David

  • IPhoto 11 no pics from one event

iphoto 11 will not display full size pictures from my most recent event, only thumbnails -- this after recent upgrade with file transfer from older macbook.  The files themselves are fine and I tried reverting them to original, though they had not been edited.

I have the same problem. When i click the info button it shows the size to be in KB when i know the original file was shot in several GB. When i zoom in it's a bit blurred as it is almost like a thumbnail.
Some of my other pics are showing the actual size. Not sure if this is a settign issue. I just upgraded to a new pro book and moved my pictures over from the old iPhoto. Anyone have any idea how to fix this issue?

  • ICal & Snow Leopard upgrade.  iCal icon is now stuck on July 17th?

    Hi everyone,
I have recently upgraded my Mid '07 Mac Mini from Leopard to Snow Leopard and have only come across 3 problems (None really major).
One of these is my iCal dock icon on my dock is stuck on July 17th rather than the present date unless the app is open. (I am aware that July 17 is the default icon).
I've tried the following to fix it and none have worked so far:
    Relaunched Dock & Finder
    Deleted iCal Preferences in User/Library
Copied the iCal icon with the date on to a variety of places
Removing the dock icon and dragging back in again
Created a new account to see if it's my account with the problem (The problem existed on the new account too).
I can seem to fix this but it was my quick reference to the day's date.
I hope someone can help me. Thank you.

I think only Leopard's iCal has the current date on the dock icon. Tiger and (I guess now) Snow Leopard keep their dock icon on July 17, which is the date that iCal debuted at the MacWorld Expo in New York in 2002. The only time it shows the current date is when the application is running. There is one very simple trick to get it updated and thats to have the app open at login (keep it hidden if you don't want it popping up every time you log on). Other ways include scripting and installing other programs but that can get kinda hectic. =/

  • Recent events don't update on my iDevices

I don't want to use PhotoStream.    But before PhotoStream was available, I did have my most recent iPhoto events synchronize to my iPhone and iPad via iTunes.     These don't update though anymore.    My iPhone is tiny (which is why I don't use PhotoStream) - but I still set up each device to the most recent Events.     But the events I find are old.
What should I look at to see why this doesn't update?

I finally took my computer to the genius bar.    Turning off iPhoto syncing on my iPad and turning it on again fixed it both for my iPad and iPhone.

  • All Recent Events Disappeared

After restoring events from my Time Machine (because the disk was erased when Apple fixed my mother board), ICal worked fine. Then my machine crashed last night and when I restarted, none of the events were there, nor were the recent events I had created after the restore. There is a cache file with a date/time of the machine crash. I went to Apple Genius, and they said they had no way to get the events back, nor could they or I even find any events on the disk. Does anyone have any suggestions how to recover the lost events. The calendar is not completely empty, just missing everything recently created. Ical version:Version 3.0.8 (1287). Running OS 10.5.8. Thanks

I found it very handy and useful. Hopefully it is not gone for good.

  • Iphoto 9.6 .. All events lost

    Well.
It seems after upgrading to Yosemite and upgrading iPhoto to 9.6 all my events are gone and the only one left is the "New Event" from today which contains 177.031 pictures.
Another "New Event" contains 15.054 pictures.
Started the new 9.6 iPhoto, accepted the library conversion .. and now back home I see that huge mess.
Not only are all events gone (except for two, over a thousand Events went "poof")
    All faces are gone too.
The Library package shows the structure under "Old Masters" .. but it seems all Folders do not contain files according to the Finder.
All pictures are new in one big heap in the "Masters > 2014 > 10 > 29 / 30" folder.
I have a recent backup of the folder .. but is is in the old format (before Yosemite) and very likely the new iPhoto will again make a mess out of it.
I will start a new library and import the folders from the backup by hand so the structure aka. events is back.
And as always. Backup Backup Backup .. everything you consider important at least twice.
Still, any idea on how to restore the faces ?

    Hi
I updated from the latest version to Yosemite and than downloaded the iPhoto update.
The last version had some little lag now and than but was overall stable (one of the reasons i upgraded to a new iMac from my old 27" iMac)
I used iPhoto for  daily use and Aperture for more advanced stuff (rarely)
No account sharing (i am single user on all my machines without Admin rights for safety)  and the library is on an external hard drive and has been there for years.
I actually have three libraries (old archive, private, work) with the private one being the biggest.
All 3 libraries are existing since the iApps came with a Mac (2004 ??) and were converted to the new version multiple times, without issue than taking quite some time.
As I am afraid that iPhoto will make a mess of the the other 2 libraries too I am now copying the Master folders to another external hard drive.
I am now trying (doing some other work) to rebuild the Library again by dragging only single folders into iPhoto from the "Master" sources.
I also discovered 4 "Recovered photos" folders containing various pictures and (strangely) *.avi files which iPhoto does not want to import.
No idea what these are, will copy them to my windows machine and take a look, maybe some old digital camera made those as the oldest pictures in the library date back to 1994.

  • How can you take a photo from one event and put it in another, without dragging to desktop and dragging back into iPhoto and moving it to the event folder I want it in.

As the title says I need help on how to take a photo from one event and put it in another, without dragging to desktop and dragging back into iPhoto and moving it to the event folder I want it in. Right now when I want to move a picture from one event to another I drag it to my desktop then delete it from iPhoto then I drag it back into iPhoto and put where I want it.An example would be taking a photo from the Christmas event and add it to a specific person event.  Can I do that within the events section without all the dragging. Also is there anyway I can remove duplicates from iPhoto without going through each and every file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apple doesn't make it easy to do what you want.  However, here's how I do it.
Select the photo you want to move and create a new Event for it via the Event ➙ Create Event menu option.
In the Event mode select the new Event with the one picture and drag it onto the Event you want to move the photo to.
