IPhoto '08 suddenly no longer displaying majority of my library photos.

I am using iPhoto '08 7.1.4. Today it has lost connection to most of the photo files in the iPhoto library. From being able to see thousands of photos yesterday, today I see fewer than 400. The photos no longer appear in my Events or Albums either. Spotlight/Finder show that the source files are still there, in the same place as before. I cannot re-import the photos because iPhoto reports that they are already in the Library. There is no apparent commonality in what is now displayed and what in not - not by date, size, camera or whatever. I see in this Discussion that several other people have reported loss of visibility of their photos but in those cases the symptoms seem a bit different to what I have experienced.
Does anyone have suggestions for me on how I can restore visibility of my photos in iPhoto?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Run the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open Photo window
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

iPhoto 9.6 doesn´t display any pictures from library. I have upgraded from an old iPhoto. I upgraded the Library also.
Everything is inside the Library I can see but when I run iPhoto I get only a yellow note on the screen and no pictures?

Everything is inside the Library I can see
Do you mean by looking into the library using the Finder?
but when I run iPhoto I get only a yellow note on the screen and no pictures?
Then iPhoto has probably opened a new, empty library, because it could not find or access your iPhoto library. What happens, whiny double-click the Library to open it directly?
Where is your iPhoto library stored? Is it in the Pictures folder or on an external drive?

  • AE CC suddenly no longer displaying a Motion-Jpeg Clip

    Hi!
I have always used the 35mm film grain from this site: http://vision-color.com/free-stuff/
Yesterday I opened one of my projects and suddenly the file is displayed as a green solid.
I have tested the file with VLC - plays as it should.
I have re-downloaded it to rule out file corruption - no result.
PPro also displays it as a green solid, in the program window as well as in the fullscreen playback on my 2nd monitor.
Should I try to re-install quicktime? Any other ideas?
(win7 64, latest AE CC, updated display drivers today, been having problems with my graphics card (lots of glitches on the display), but as I said it plays in VLC and it played before, when I already had those problems, so I'd rather think it's not connected.)
Edit: I am noticing more and more glitches, maybe it is really my graphics card that is the culprit here, I'll try to exchange it. Though I still think it's unrelated.
I will test it by re-encoding the file in AE... if it's only a display problem, the resulting file should work fine in VLC. Will report back.
Edit2: Re-encoding resultet in a clip with one green frame and the rest purple frames.

No changes to system, codec or anything else that I am aware of. AE 12.2.0.52. Clip info in AE: Millions of Colors | Foto - JPEG
Edit: I just borrowed a friend's graphics card and with it my normal graphics bugs have disappeared, but the problem with the file persists, so it was not the card's fault.
Next step will be trying to re-install the codec somehow.
Edit 2: Uninstalling and installing quicktime changed nothing. I don't know how I can uninstall and reinstall the specific Motion Jpeg Codec and I have no idea what else to do...

  • Apple TV No Longer Displays My iPhotos After Recent Update

While I have had the Apple TV 2 for the past 18 months and have had no problem with it displaying my selected photos via iPhoto and the Cloud as a screensaver, it no longer loads nor shows my selected photos since the most recent Apple TV update. However, the screensaver shows the generic Apple photos, such as the preloaded photos from National Geographic, etc., yet I can not get it to show my personal photo stream, even though they are selected in the preferences. When I click on "preview" under the screen saver preferences, I am stuck with Apple's infamous "loading" icon.
Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have any solutions? Your prompt an professional response would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same issue, though it isn't consistent. If I reset/power down, it works once then stops. I can get it to work with preview, tho sometimes it gets stuck loading. Usually, It just goes black.

  • My maps app has suddenly gone BLANK, no longer displays anything but a creamy brown background and a blue dot, I've see other issues on other devices also, but not a single response from apple explaining how to resolve it.  Anyone else?

Before I left for Thailand, I didn't have a single problem with my maps app, however on return, I've found that it no longer displays anything in the main map screen, hybrid and sattelite still show something (but aren't accurate), but in maps itself, all there is is a blank screen. This not only affects maps, but all my other programs that are obviously linked somehow to apple maps are now doing the same thing... Nike Running, iSmoothRun, Argus, all now show my route, but it's overlaid over a BLANK map area.
Anyone see this? and know how to fix it?

I've done soft and hard resets, power off resets, I've deleted the three apps that are associated with maps and reinstalled them, the only thing I haven't done is a full restore, which from other peoples experiences I've see hasn't fixed the issue. So, I've avoided that because I don't want the 7.0.5 update (my 5S is a China coded model)

  • Photos in iPhoto are suddenly VERY Dark

I have over 4,000 photos in my iPhoto library and up until a few days ago everything seemed to be working perfectly. But all of a sudden - literally one minute the application was open and everything was working fine and the next minute all my photos looked very dark. In video terminology, they all looked as though the "black was crushed." In other words, where there was once detail was now almost completely in shadow or dark. What would cause something like this to happen? Everything else on my Cinema Display looks fine… in other words I can open the same photo in Photoshop and the image looks the way it should. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I might add, that around the same time this happened, my second monitor, and older Apple 17" with the lucite legs, suddenly began displaying EVERYTHING on it slightly darker. I tried running color sync but that didn't seem to help. Repaired permissions. Ran Disk Warrior. Nothing. I just chalked that problem up to old age, but now I wonder if the two aren't somehow related.
    Thanks in advance.

    John:
Do the photos display the same using another application, like Preview? If yes then boot into another account and view some of the same photos in Preview or a temp iPhoto library.
If the other account displays them OK then there may be some preference file in your primary account that is bad. Here's a way to week them out.
    Trouble Shooting Preferences in Tiger
Go to HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Preferences folder (in its entirety) to the Desktop and make a second copy of it so you have Copy A and B. Now try the the application again and determine if problem is fixed.
If the problem IS fixed, go to the new Preferencess folder that the OS will have created and open it up.
Open Copy B on the Desktop and select all of the items inside. Drag them into the open new library folder. When the Copy window comes up check the Apply to All check box and then click on the *Don't Replace* button as seen here. That will keep the new files created and bring back all of the others.
If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Prefs folder and move the intact Copy A folder back to the Library folder .
    Do you Twango?

  • IPhoto has suddenly scrambled dates on photos

Opened iPhoto today and noticed that a ton of 2+ yr. old photos are listed as created on various dates in 12/2007! It's days like today that I wish I didn't rely on technology to store my life's events...

I had to use the start up disk on my 2008 laptop and the Iphotos software is no longer. How can i get it back

    Hello Mac4541,
It sounds like you may have reinstalled OS X on your 2008 MacBook and iPhoto didn't get installed.
Given the specifications of your unit, iPhoto may be on a separate install DVD.
MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008) - Technical Specifications
(as an example, not quite sure of your model)
    What’s in the box
    MacBook
    Display cleaning cloth

    Installed software
Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard (includes Time Machine, Quick Look, Spaces, Spotlight, Dashboard, Mail, iChat, Safari, Address Book, QuickTime, iCal, DVD Player, Photo Booth, Front Row, Xcode Developer Tools)
iLife ’08 (includes iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb, GarageBand)

  • Suddenly, when I attempt to edit a RAW photo in iPhoto it turns a dark shade of green and won't allow me to adjust exposure.

I have an iMac with a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 processor and running OS X version 10.9.5. I have iPhoto 9.5.1.
Suddenly, when I attempt to edit a RAW photo in iPhoto, it turns a green shade and won't let me adjust exposure. I can view the pictures in the events page just fine. However, I'm noticing that when the RAW pictures turn that green shade they tend to stay green regardless of when I'm in edit mode or not. Please help.

Did you install RAW update 5.07 recently? Mine was installed 9/18 - look under updates in the App store.
As to TM I suggest you not mess with its backups - it manages them and makes space as required - it builds a complex set of data so it can restore any file at any time for as long as possible - if you mess with its data you may cause problems for future restores - see Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac
If your backup drive fills up
As your backup drive begins to fill up to its capacity, Time Machine intelligently deletes the oldest backups to make room for newer ones. It also alerts you if the "Notify after old backups are deleted" option is selected in Time Machine preferences.

Sounds more like a problem with your Display Resolution than iPhoto.
Go to: Apple / System Preferences / Displays and in the Resolutions list select,

    1400 x 900 if you have a 15" MacBook Pro

  • Print to pdf -- add to iPhotos has suddenly failed - with no error message

It appears to work, the workflow at the left of the finder appears as usual, and iphoto opens, but nothing is imported.
It doesn't work from address book or from Preview. (I have always used address book in the past). I don't know when it stopped working, as I don't do it very often.
It still works on laptop (new, but running same OS).

    MaryArthur:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Another user just reported the same problem. First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try again. Also download and reapply the Mac OS X 10.5.2 Combo Update.
Next open your text editor, type a few lines and run the workflow from there. Be sure you can see the workflow window that comes up asking you to name a new album for the files or select an existing one. It doesn't always come to the front of the other windows, only iPhoto's window. So while the workflow is running hide all the windows but iPhoto's.
If the above doesn't work, log into another account on your Mac and try from there. If you don't have another account it's a good thing to have as it's an excellent troubleshooting tool. Create a non-administrative account with no 3rd party enhancements. If the workflow works there your primary account is causing the problem. It might be another preference file other than iPhoto's. You can determine if that's the problem by the following:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.
4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
5 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.
6 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
