IPhoto 09 8.0.3 got BUGS

I just updated to latest version of iphoto09 days ago.
And got some bug.
1.Maps are no longer drag-able. If I drag it, it just pull out a map image.
2.Facebook uploading got stuck sometime.
3.Older photos are all invisible when scroll down from library, but photos are fine in event view.
Do you guys have similar problems?

Hi,
Sorry for my english, I live in Québec City (all-french city) and I study english at school
I have the same problem in iPhoto and, of course, I updated to Safari 4 (just after I watched the WWDC 09 video)
If I delete this preference file, is it going to remove my "faces" tags (over 3000 photo taged) ? I just want to be sure that it is not going to remove any "places" or "faces" tagging info or the descriptions of my events or even my "iphoto books"
Thx for your help!

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • IPhoto 09 - BIG LIST OF BUGS I'VE FOUND

I’ve been using IPhoto 08 for 10 months with no issues whatsoever.
Installed IPhoto 09 yesterday and have loads of issues. Thought it would be useful to share these. There's a lot to read, so thanks for reading if you get to the end.
    BACKGROUND
As some background, I have a 2.8GHz IMac with 4GB RAM. First I uninstalled my third party Flickr uploader. Then rebooted and checked it had gone. Then installed all available updates via software update. Then rebooted. Then checked for all available updates via software update again. Then logged onto my Flickr pro account via Safari and deleted all of my photos on Flickr. Then rebooted. Then installed ILIfe 09.
It took about an hour scanning my photos for faces.
    FACES
    1. Initial observations – it’s very good and clever, but it does miss a lot of faces. Also when you’re clicking to confirm, or double-clicking to to decline, it would be good if you could say “no, it’s not Maria as you’ve guessed, actually it’s Sandra”, rather than just double-clicking to say “no it’s not Maria” (and then effectively losing the Sandra opportunity!)
    2. After the initial dump of faces, I then tried importing 50 brand new photos directly into IPhoto 09. It then didn’t pick up any of the faces, so I had to go in manually adding the faces. Any reason for this?
    3. After a couple of hours, on my corkboard I had 30 faces. An hour later, without me having added any more faces, suddenly I’ve got 25 faces. No idea where the missing 5 went. I then went about creating 3 of the missing 5 faces, taking me to 28 faces. An hour later, suddenly I’ve got about 35 faces! When I looked at the corkboard, some of my faces had been duplicated. For example, there were now 2 Rachel’s on my corkboard. When I clicked on one of them, it told me I had 8 pictures of Rachel, and then showed me the 8 pictures. When I clicked on the other, it told me I had 2 pictures of Rachel, but when I drilled down, no pictures of Rachel were displayed, even though there was supposed to be 2…!! Incidentally – on the cork board, where I now had 2 Rachel’s, the ‘key photo’ for both Rachel’s was the same photo. I then deleted all my duplicates. So all in all, a bit flakey!
    4. I then had a go at entering the email addresses of some of my faces, but when clicking on the info button on the face, the 3D animation which then follows to allow you to enter the details went very slowly. When I tried to overtype “enter email address” with the email address, it kept refusing the email address and reverted to “enter email address”. The only way to fix this was to reboot.
    FACEBOOK
    1. When pressing the export to facebook button, it asks for an account credentials. I supplied my own credentials. It then happily exported 30 photos. When I logged onto Facebook to have a look, it had correctly tagged Brad in 5 pictures, Maria in 3 pictures and Rachel in 8 pictures. HOWEVER, for the 8 Rachel pictures, it only identified 3 out of those 8 as Rachel on Facebook, the other 5 just being Rachel. Hope that makes sense! This is definitely a bug, as Rachel’s email address was entered on the corkboard before I pressed the facebook button, therefore all 8 should have been identified as Rachel on Facebook. I even tried overtyping her email address on the corkboard and then re-syncing with Facebook, but it made no difference. I deleted the album and re-exported it with no difference.
    2. I then tried switching accounts, so after pressing the facebook button, entered my wife’s username and password for facebook, to see if IPhoto supported multiple facebook accounts. Even though it accepted my wife’s credentials, it still then says “you are about to publish to Brad’s facebook account” and ignores my wife’s credentials.
    MAPS
    1. When trying to manually enter location information it tells me I’m not connected to the internet, when clearly I am, and can use IPhoto Facebook exporter, use Google Maps via Safari, etc.
    FLICKR
    1. I tired highlighting multiple events. I then pressed the flickr button. I was a bit disappointed that when the load gets to flickr, it is merged as one event (aka ‘flickr SET’). So to upload multiple events, I’ll have to do them one at a time. Ah well, never mind.
    2. I’ve now uploaded 3 sets to flickr. However, every time I start IPhoto, the sync icons start turning next to every set on the flickr section on the left hand side of IPhoto (even if I'm not interested in doing anything with Flickr). This makes the operation of IPhoto slow. This will mean trouble when I'm up to 100 flickr sets!!!
    3. I've downloaded a 4th set to flickr containing 300 photos. All was well and the photos are on flickr. Then an hour later, it proceeded to delete the Flickr set, so that now it says “(0)” after the flickr set rather than "(300)". Clicking on the name of the flickr set displays no photos! However, when I log onto flickr direct, the 300 photos are actually there. After a reboot, IPhoto insists there are still zero photos in the set, and there is no icon next to the set (to re-sync with flickr), like there is with my other 3 sets. So what do I do now? All I can think of is deleting via Flickr and uploading all 300 photos again!
    STABILITY
    1. Random crashing. The beachball appears after doing certain things and won't go away. I then have to force-quit. This is the first time I've ever had to use force-quit in my 10 months of being a Mac user.
    2. Slowness. The application eventually grinds to a virtual halt after a few hours. The animations go slow, typing in text gets ignored, and eventually I have to reboot.

iPhoto has a new Web preference pane and in it is an option to check for newly published photos. I don't know if it checks you filckr acco
unt or must Mobileme but you might set the option to check manually and see if some of the strange behavior goes away. It probably will increase iPhoto's speed if it's not checking online all the time.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in it's rebuild library window, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.

  • I downloded iphoto 11 9.2 and when opened it for the first time and the program started to update my iPhoto library the file got corrupted. That has happened in the two macs I have (both of them rather new and updated to last Lion version 10.7.2).

I downloaded Iphoto 11 9.2 from the apps store (was on iphoto '09 before version 8.x) and when opened it for the first time it tried to update my photo librery and ended up corupting it to the extreme that I had to get a backup from time capsule and downgrade my iphoto version. I spent yesterday 6 hours at the genius bar in an apple store and they were not able to provide me with any other solution. In the emantime, I have to forget about about photo streaming... Any idea, is this a bug that somebody knows how tp fix?

In fairness, this isn't an issue in iPhoto 11 but one in your Library. Some file or other in there is damaged and that's what causes the crash during the upgrade.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How do I reinstall iPhoto 08 if I got the upgrade based on purchase date?

Based on the purchase date of my macbook pro I got the update from iLife 06 to iLife 08 for free. All was fine, until I upgraded to Leopard via archive and install. Now I need to reinstall iLife (iPhoto seems fine, but iMovie is complaining about missing components) but since I only have disks for 06 (System Restore) I'm not sure how to go about updating again to 08.
Is there some link, or will Software Update automatically figure it out based on some Apple VooDoo?
Or can I get new disks from an Apple store if I show them my receipt with purchase date on it?
    Thanks!

Hah, reply to myself. Looking back at the receipt, apparently I ordered on Aug 9 and it shipped Aug 11. So the system ended up with the 'new build' on it from the beginning because of the timing between order and ship.
That's why I couldn't remember how I got the upgrade - I was concerned about whether or not I'd have to do the $10 upgrade "uptodate" program, but the lag worked in my favor and the new version was bundled.
I just re-installed iMovie and its version 7.0 (which is correct for iLife 08, less some subsequent updates).
Move along, nothing to see here....

  • BUG: iPhoto 9 Slideshow - Text Slide Bugs and iPhoto Library Corruption

I was wondering if anyone else has run into the following issues:
I have had multiple issues with iPhoto crashing, stop responding, and database corruption where I cannot open iPhoto. These issues all began when I tried to use the new themed slideshow in iPhoto v9.1. Previously, I had only used iPhoto to create basic slideshows with iPhoto v7.x. I was hoping that I would be able to create my masterpiece in iPhoto 11 (v9.1) but I have only been frustrated by my attempts so far.
What should have been a 3 - 4 hour operation has become a 20 hour nightmare and I still don't have a slideshow to show for my efforts. This has been one of my most disappointing uses of Apple software ever.
Repeatable, reproducible bugs that I have run into include:
    1. Deleting a photo that appears in the timeline before a sub-title causes havoc with subsequent sub-titles (a.k.a. Text Slides). Subsequent subtitles are randomly copied to pictures following the one it was assigned to. Further, there is no subtitle icon in the timeline and the photos have to be manually modified to eliminate the subtitle. Work around is click the "Text Slide" button
    2. Zooming and/or image placement is not preserved and not visible when previewed, exported, or iPhoto is closed and then reopened.
    3. The iPhoto Library becomes corrupt and permissions problems prevent me from working with my photos. This happens while working on slideshow. I have had to rebuild my library and repair permissions no less than five times since I started working on my slideshow.

iPhoto's slideshow feature is fine but no tool for a "masterpiece".
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie, on every Mac sold, as is iDVD.
    Others, in order of price:
    PhotoPresenter $29
    PhotoToMovie $49.95
    PulpMotion $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Express $199
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs.
However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Express is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • IPhoto 7.1 has fixed the iPhoto 6 "revert to original" bug

Over a year ago I posted on an iPhoto bug, possibly related to use of importing Libraries.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3031479 was the original thread, but it's long been archived.
Basically, iPhoto would show the 'revert to original' command even on images that had never been modified. This had odd side-effects with some software. A contributor to one of my blogs found that "file Library6.iPhoto and concluded that the conversion of a field "idED" went wrong. I was able to repair the file using a HEX editor."
The good news is that when I converted a test Library that had an image showing this behavior, iPhoto 7.1 converted correctly. The incorrect 'revert to original' status was gone.
    Nice to find something fixed!

    EStav:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What's happening with the V7 vignette is that a vignette mask is created and applied to the photo. If you crop the photo the same mask is applied to the cropped area just enlarging the visible part in the vignette.
To do what you want you now have to export the file and reimport as a new photo and crop that one. A bummer, I know. Otherwise get a 3rd party editor that you can do all of that in one step and then save.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. • IPhoto Going Haywire Since Got External Drive

I got a 150GB external drive at an apple store and copied my Iphoto Library to it. I had the G-Drive set as the default drive for Iphoto. I had no problems the first few times I downloaded photos from to my external drive from my camera. However, recently, i would get a pop-up saying i didn't properly remove my external drive when i hadn't touched it at all. Then, i had problems downloading photos to the external drive the other day. First all the thumb nails came up, but when i clicked `Import,' nothing happened and had to restart the computer. After two attempts, i noticed that i had actually lost the most recent download (or was the default Iphoto reset to the hard drive? i never deleted the library on my hard drive so the two are pretty similar). After a third attempt, i was able to download photos from my camera, but then Iphoto froze. restarted the computer and deleted .com.iphoto.pfiles. Still had problems with Iphoto freezing when i had my G-Drive plugged in. i am afraid now to do anything with the G-Drive, as didn't have these problems before i bought it.

Change the cable on the drive, use a different port on the Mac. See if the problem is related to the hardware.
    What format is that G-Drive?

  • IPhoto problem : Library size got to 251 GB after upgrading iTunes

I have iMac, iPad and iPod Classic.
While downloading the latest iTunes version (and importing some pictures from my camera) the sync stopped.
After a while I realized that my iPhoto library has got a size of 251 Gb (it was 34 Gb before the iTunes download).
This means that I can't sync all my photos to iPad etc.
But , above all, it appeared in "other" folder something like 216 Gb which I can't understand what it is !
Evidently I imported/downloaded something wrong from iTunes.
What shall I do now ?

There are some topics at the right on this page under More Like This that discuss a similar issue.  Check those to see if it's the same as yours.  I don't remember any of them offering a solution.
Do you have more photos in the library than you did before the iTunes upgrade?  What system and iPhoto version are you using?

  • I have iphoto 9.6 and i cant open my iphoto library. I got this message

Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable :
Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.
i cant open my iphoto to check what option to pick.
the options i have are :
repair permissions: Examines your library for permission problems and repairs them. This requires Administrator access.
rebuild thumbnails: Regenerates the thumbnail files from the original images. This should be used when photos are not being displayed correctly in the photo grid.
repair database: Checks for inconsistencies in your library and repairs them. Adds photos that are stored in the library but missing from the database.
rebuild database:Examines and rebuilds your library. This should be used only when the above options do not address library problems.
it also needs me to upgrade my photo library.(which i cant do because of the message)
    What should i do .

Backup your iPhoto library and Follow the suggestions in order
1 - Shut down and restart your computer,
2 - and (if #1 does not fix it) then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. --  which is clearly option 4 -
rebuild database:Examines and rebuilds your library. This should be used only when the above options do not address library problems.

  • What's the best way to manage iPhoto if you've got two Macs?

Hello. I have a Mac on my desk at home, and now I have an Air that I'm able to carry around with me. I'd like to be able to have the same iPhoto library on both computers. Is that possible?
If not, what are some best practices for managing two iPhoto galleries? How do you make sure new photos on one computer are added to the other gallery? Is there some kind of automator action I can add?
    Dave

It's tricky. Iphoto is designed for a single user on a single machine.
If you want to have the same library on two Machines... And to sync chnages...
What do you mean by "Sync".
The general term means when two Libraries (A and B) are compared and files in Library A are copied to Library B, while files in Library B are also copied to Library A so that both Libraries are identical.
This is bi-directional copying and you cannot do this automatically with iPhoto. No Syncing software is capable of parsing the iPhoto Library in this manner. One or both of your Libraries will be damaged if you try this.
You can have uni-directional copying - files in Library A are copied to Library B - this is essentially backing up. Obviously you can also copy from Library B to Library A.
The nearest you can get to syncing is to use iPhoto Library Manager to move files/Albums/Events plus associated metadata between Libraries. This process cannot be automated.

  • I got bugs and crashes

Downloaded PSE and Premiere 12 from the Adobe store a while back. Win 7, 64 bit. Love Elements, actually upgraded from 11, no probs there. But Premiere continously stops working in the mid of projects and I lose tons of work. Other bugs too.. in the Guided section, the tutorials dont play all the way through, only one or two steps, then stop.. If I add an effect to a clip it often flickers and fades in and out..  Animations in text doesnt work well, often cannot be applied.. Transitions often cannot be added in between clips for some reason.
I'm not a computer person so it was a pain for me to reinstall it, and that didn't fix anything. Last time it suddenly stopped working I'd had enough, decided to try and get a refund because I'm not getting what I paid for, and switch to something different altogether.
Just before I do, wanted to throw a hail mary in here to see if anyone had any ideas of how I could get this thing to work like its suppose to.
    Because I am  fruss-tra-ted!!!

    GpaChris
Could be lots of answers for
Premiere continously stops working in the mid of projects and I lose tons of work
Would need to work through project settings, properties of source media, and what is going on in the project when it continuously stops working...effects, transitions, moving clips around, etc. Computer description and resources need to be looked at.
in the Guided section, the tutorials dont play all the way through, only one or two steps, then stop..
What specific Guided tutorials are involved in this? Are you in Quick Guided or Expert Guided? What are you adding to the workflows....same as you would be using if you were in either just Expert or Quick?
If I add an effect to a clip it often flickers and fades in and out
What effects..color correction, other? What kind of clips?
Animations in text doesnt work well, often cannot be applied..
What Animations and how are you applying them. Are you getting stopped adding animation to more than one line text?
Transitions often cannot be added in between clips for some reason.
Some reason could be the video clips need "trimming" related to creating handles for the transition to work.
Were you OK with doing all this in Premiere Elements 11 on the same computer? If so, this is what I would consider...
    a. Is Premiere Elements 11 still installed on this computer with Premiere Elements 12?
    b. If so, then, with Premiere Elements 12 still installed and closed, run through these techniques on 11 to verify that all is well there.
    c. If Premiere Elements 11 is not on the same computer at this time, then install it for the comparison between its performance and that of 12.
    d. If 12 fails the test and you are within 30 days of purchase, try to get your money back from whomever sold you 12.
    e. Go back to using Premiere Elements 11.
Please review and then you need to decide what works for you.
We can go through each of the problem focus points, but we will need to repeat "patience is a virtue".
