Iphoto 09 8.1.2 won't import pictures
It doesn't seem to matter what I do, but iPhoto has decided in the last couple of months to stop saving imported events/pictures. I can open the program, create events, import photos, etc. but when I close it, and open it again all the photos I imported are gone. It is quite frustrating. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I've looked around the discussion for possible answers but I've found no one with a similar problem. I should also mention that I import my photos from my camera via a memory card and first organize them into folders in a Picture folder before importing them to iPhoto. The pictures are all on my hard drive, and there are no problems there.
Welcome to Apple Discussions,
It sounds like you have either a database issue or a permissions issue.
Rebuild your iPhoto Library following http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638.
I would use the options in this order:
1.) Repair permissions -- allow to complete
2.) Rebuild database -- allow to complete
3.) Reclaim unused space
Also make sure your iPhoto Library is being stored on your internal HD or an external that is Mac OS formatted. And be sure you are not using File Vault http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8738.html.

Iphoto doesn't recognize jpg's and won't import pictures
Recently updated from iPhoto 09 to 11 and iPhoto won't import pictures from Kodak camera. Says it doesn't recognize file type "jpg". Imported pic last week from same camera just fine. Also upgraded to OSX 10.6.8– this is when the problem started. I don't want a work around solution, as I know there is a fix for this. Just can't find it.
There isn't a fix. Workaround: use a USB Card Reader.

IPhoto 11 will not (won't) import photos
After upgrading to iPhoto 11 I cannot import photos using the usual methods.
I have tried importing via ImageCapture app (my usual choice). When that did not work, I tried dragging the files from my camera media to iPhoto. When that did not work, I copied the files to my desktop and then tried dragging to iPhoto. When that did not work, I used the iPhoto command: Import to Library.
Nothing seems to work. No new pictures can be added to iPhoto via any method that worked previously. I have tried relaunching iPhoto, rebuilding iPhoto but the results are the same. No new photos or events...
Another weird anomaly is that my camera's CF memory card shows (0) photos in the iPhoto listing, but if I open it in finder or ImageBrowser, I can see all the files there ok.
Pretty weird. After backing up my iPhoto library, the install, upgrade and conversion to iPhoto 11 seemed to go fine. Only now, the library is pretty much unable to be added to.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Steve

Iphoto 8 after update won't import RAW files
I'm running iphoto 8 version 7.1.3 and just updated the software from Apple's auto update (Jun 30th is when the update installed). Now I can't import RAW files from my canon 30D, from a memory card or from existing files. Every time I try iphoto freezes and I have to reboot the computer. Add to that, iphoto has now "lost" most of the pictures - ie it doesn't show them in the events or photos areas. I have managed to find the photos in the library, but when I try to import them back into iphoto, if there are any RAW files in the folders, I get the same problem as before - iphoto freezing, and having to restart the computer.
has anyone else experienced this problem? Or have any suggestions for solutions?
thanksWelcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you shooting RAW + jpeg or just RAW. If it the former another user found out that shooting the combination of formats was not supported by iPhoto but shooting just the RAW was.
For the missing file issue try the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open Photo window
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard. -
HT1338 Iphoto closed unexpectedly? Won't import photos
Iphoto Closed unexpectedly and will not import photos. Any Help
iPhoto 9.5 immediately tries to "upgrade" my library using the upgrader.
iPhoto 9.5 asks you to run the upgrader to prepare the library for 9.5. It then will update the library to its format.
You need to do the following:
1 - go to your Applications/Utilities folder and double click on the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application.
2 - select Choose Library, navigate to your iPhoto library, select it and let the upgrader do its thing.
3 - launch iPhoto 9.5 to open and finish the conversion of the library.

IPhoto won't import pictures from CD-R.
The CD's were made on the first model of the dome 15 " G4 iMac combo drive to free up space on the 60G hard drive quite a few years ago. At the time I checked and the photo's came up from all the CD's in iPhoto. I now have a iMac 23" with an i3 processor, 1TB hard drive with 700G free space left. Latest version of software. It just says preparing for import, and the activity bar comes up. A couple of times iPhoto has just quit after about 10 minutes, and the last time it went on for about 20 mins with no sign of progressing ( the CDs can only hold 700MB).
I would appreciate any ideas on how I can get access to these family photos, I have 5 CD's worth!
Thanks
Best wishes AmerHi Terence, I must admit I didn't have a clue how the photo's were saved - I just used the iPhoto help advice available at the time. What confused me was that my old iMac did just import direct from the disks. I now know that having followed Larry's advice, they were saved as an iPhoto library because that is the title that came up for the folder in Finder. Thanks for getting involved.
Best wishes Amer -
IPhoto 9.5.1 won't import photos.
I upgraded to 9.5.1 and it won't let me import photos. I've tried from the camera, iPhone, iPad, and an external memory card reader. iPhoto will show the pictures and lets me click on the import button. Then there is the rainbow circle that never stops and doesn't let the import continue. I did not have this issue until I upgraded. Will uninstalling and re-installing make me lose any pictures?
Will uninstalling and re-installing make me lose any pictures?
No - but it will not solve anything either since you are virtually certain to hae a data problem rather than an application problem
And in any case I assume you have a good backup so you are protected in case of unusual problems - if yo do not then sooner or later you will lose your photos
Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database -
IPhoto Library upgrade version won't import previous library
So I have been reading past posts and have figured out how to locate my iphoto library. I have my originals & I can view them in Preview. However, I can't get them into iphoto, I get an error message. I also tried to re-import the whole library and I got a "cannot import album" error message. Please help, anything would be appreciated! In the meantime, I'm burning CD's a plenty!
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Can you describe what you're trying to do in more detail and how you upgraded to the version you're currently at, i.e from what version to what version? What is the error message exactly?
If you're upgrading from an earlier version, 5 or 6, to V7 you upgrade the application and then launch it. It will open the library and tell you it needs to be updated. Click OK and it should convert it to the new version. You should not create a new library and try to import the old library.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. IPhoto '09 CD/DVD won't import
I made a CD from iPhoto '09 (8.04) and gave it to a friend running the same version. The CD appeared on his iPhoto as it should and all the data was contained on the CD (original images, modified images, faces and places, titles and descriptions, even keywords & star ratings). Great so far!
But we could not get all this data into his iPhoto. In previous versions of iPhoto all you had to do was drag the pictures from the CD to the Library>Photos in the left column to import ALL data. Now all that did was import the modified images sans titles, descriptions, places, original, etcetera. Same with using the "Import to Library" feature under the File menu.
Any ideas? Here's a procedure that should work in getting the photos and their metadata from the library on the disk into the working library. It will require using the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager.
1 - copy the disk library to the Desktop.
2 - launch iPhoto and open the disc library to make sure it's the right version, working, etc.
3 - launch iPLM and add both libraries to the list on the left.
4 - set iPLM's preferences to get the the events and albums as you'd like. There are a lot of options so look at them carefully. Not positive but I think the default settings will get everything you want.
5 - select File->Merge Libraries... menu option and then select the two libraries.
6 - select the name and destination for the new, merged library and go from there.

IPhone won't import pictures to Image Capture
Hi Everyone!
I'm having an issue - everytime I connect my iPhone to iMac I want to transfer the pictures to Image Capture and it always keeps giving me the same error message no matter what pictures I select to import.
It always says the following:
"An error occured while importing. 24 items were not imported:
IMG_1329.JPG
IMG_1330.JPG
IMG_1331.JPG
IMG_1332.JPG
IMG_1333.JPG..."
Please help!
Thanks!I have had the same problem all of a sudden, therefore I am replying to this thread. Strange thing was that imports from my iPad worked fine. I tried many solutions like restarting Image Capture, restarting my computer, changing the cable, deleting the contents of the DCIM folder on my iPhone. Nothing worked. What worked for me was:
1. Change the "Import to:" from "Pictures" to "Desktop" (a menu located in the center bottom window in image Capture v. 6.01.)
2. Change the "Import to:" back to "Pictures"
3. Import
Maybe this will help someone. -
IPhoto crashes when I attempt to import pictures from my iPhone
When I try to import photos from my iPhone, iPhoto crashes. It just freezes. I'm not sure what to do.
Because there's something wrong with the main library?
If there are a lot of videos then it might well take tim, as videos are larger files.
Back to the original library:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

IPhoto 6.0.6 won't import phots

IPhoto crashes whenever I try to import pictures to iPhoto. Just started doing it.
When I went to import photos from my last photo shoot, iPhoto crashed every time I pressed the import photos selection under file. I get a whole listing of commands and processes that are supposedly being sent to Apple, but it doesn't help me at all solve the problem.

Iphoto 7.1.5 won't import RAW from Nikon D5000
Just got a new Nikon D5000. Imported a few JPGs fine but the RAW files are unrecognizable. What gives? Did not have problems with my RAW files from my old Nikon D70.
I got a NIkon P6000 and their RAW file format, .NRW is not compatible with Macs although Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 2 make a stab at it. I have CS3, of course, and Lightroom 1. SO, I thought of returning the camera and getting the Canon G10. Now, it turns out one needs Adobe Camera Raw 4.0 to process Raw files in CS3 and LR 1. OK, so I have not been able to find Camera Raw 4. They take you only to 5. You guessed it - only compatible with CS4, etc. Anybody know how to work with Canon Raw files in Photoshop CS3? Or where I can get Adobe Camera Raw 4.0?
Thanks -
Can someone please tell me why my SD card reader won't import pictures to my iPas? Thank You!
With the Photos app open, do the photo thumbnails show up on the iPad screen.
Is the card an SD, SDHC or SDXC ans what size?
Cheers, Tom
