IPhoto 09 - Book won't upload

I am having a problem with uploading a book with iPhoto 09. The program assembles the book fine. I can export a PDF file of the book fine. When the transferring starts, the program just hangs up. Sometimes it starts uploading and stops after uploading 164k. Other times it won't begin uploading. After about 15 minutes, I get an error message to check my internet connection. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Dan Hendricks

1 - Apple does not have a problem - you do - this is a problem with your set up not with iPhoto
2 - this is a user to user forum so addressing Apple here has no value
3 - how are you previewing that fails - using the directions here - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 ? How does the preview fail? BTW the fact that you can not create a preview is directly connected to your inability up upload and is connected to the problem with your system

  • My iPhoto book won't upload

When trying to order my book in iPhoto, the book assembles and then I get an error while the book tries to Upload. I need a fix as soon as possible. I have about 7 books I wanted to order before the Free Shipping promotion ends today. Can anyone help me?  I'm currently using the most up to date version of iPhoto. I've rebooted my computer. I've closed down iPhoto and reloaded it. I've followed Apple's suggestions about what to do if I haven't been able to upload the book for more than 24 hours.

Try to upload after booting your Mac in Safe mode.  The mac will be slower, but safe mode will disable non standard extensions that might be interfering with the connection to the App Store.

  • Iphoto book won't submit - hangs up on map page

I created a 52 page iphoto book in Old World format and created a map page with 4 locations in 2 continents. iphoto hangs up on this page when I try to purchase book. If I eliminate some of locations on map page, or eliminate map page totally, iphoto will allow book to be submitted. Brought this to attention at Genius Bar -they also re-created problem on one of their computers. They also tried other book formats and also had same problem with multiple locations in different continents. Any fixes or do I have to wait for iphoto upgrade?

There's a way around this possibly. See if you can create a PDF for previewing by starting a print job of the book and using the PDF->Save as PDF. If you can create a PDF of the book with the maps the following is a way to get the maps into iPhoto as image files:
1 - open the PDF in Preview, go to the first map page in the PDF (note the Page number) type Command+P.
2 - in the Print window click on the Pages radio button and put in the page number in both fields.
3 - click on the PDF button at the bottom and select *+Save PDF to iPhoto option+.* This will create a jpg file of the page and import it into iPhoto.
4 - repeat for each map in the PDF book.
5 - add the map jpgs to the book in iPhoto.
6 - go the the first map page in the book, change the format to the one that uses a photo for the full page background.
7 - drag the appropriate map photo onto that page. Do the same for the other maps.
f you want to increase the dpi of those map page jpgs you will need to edit the Automator workflow "Save PDF to iPhoto.workflow" so that the dpi is 300 (the maximum needed for books). That workflow is located in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder. I would change the dpi to 300 and save the changed workflow as a new one titled "Save PDF to iPhoto 300 PPI.workflow" in the same location.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Having trouble purchasing iphoto book, freezes during uploading.

I am having trouble buying the photo book I created in iPhoto.  Specifically, during the uploading....computer freezes.  HELP

Boot into  Safe Mode and first preview the book as described in the Apple Document: iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it. If you can preview the book OK and there are no errors (typos are my biggest problem) go ahead and order the book while still in Safe Mode.

  • HT3412 Book won't upload

I get my book to upload but it won't complete the process.

Run "Software Update" and install everthing.
Launch "App Store" and update everything.
    Restart your computer.

  • Photos from iphoto 11 won't upload to fb

Each time I try to share photos on fb it looks like it is uploading but then I get an error message.  It happens if I start in iphoto or in fb.  I can upload photos fine from my itouch, just not from my desktop.  It's been going on for a few weeks now. Any ideas? I have all the latest updates.  I've tried turning the computer totally off then back on...

    Do the following:
Copy the backup library package/folder to the Pictures folder on your new Mac. If you have any other libraries there move them to the Desktop first.
Download and run iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 on the library to convert it to the new format.  The app will be in your Applications/Utilities folder.
Launch iPhoto 9.5.1 and open the "converted" library.
Now you can delete any libraries that you previously moved to the Desktop.

  • IPhoto Book won't open

Help - we spent many hours making a wedding album photo book. We have made several books using iPhoto and it has worked fine. Now when we click on this book, it just says "loading book" forever. iPhoto itself is not frozen, and all our other albums and books seem to work fine. All the photos related to this album seem to load fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as we have to have this book for our reception BBQ.

back up your iPhoto library and launch iPhoto while depressing the command (apple) and option (alt) keys and use the first three rebuild options to rebuild your iPhoto library

  • I am having trouble uploading am iPhoto book that I created.  It keeps concluding the upload by saying there has been an error and would I like to retry it or cancel.  After four "retrys" , I'm in need of some advise.

I need some help probem solving as to why my I photo book won't upload to be printed by Apple.  It keeps saying there is an error at the very end of the upload and asks me if I want to retry or cancel.  Considering the hours spent creating the book and the fact that I can't transfer it to a different file, I seem to be stuck.  Ideas?

What version of iPhoto and of the OS?   Is the print products country in the advanced iPhoto preferences set correctly ?
Have you previewed the book?  http://support.apple.com/kb/ph2486

  • IPhoto project will not upload even in safe mode when trying to buy book, any suggestions on how to complete the "BUY BOOK" process. Christmas gift, really need to get this done, have worked MANY hours on putting it together. Please help!

Iphoto book will not upload even in safe mode when trying to buy book, any suggestions on how to complete the "BUY BOOK" process?

Make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the fix below:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
After each run thru the repair process see if you can create a PDF file of the book as described in this Apple Document: iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it. If you can try ordering the book.  If you can't finish trying all of the otpions and then boot into Safe mode and try there.

  • Upload freezes when trying to order an iPhoto book

I've seen that many people have had this problem. I'm trying to order a large (not XL) iPhoto book using my 2012 MacBook Pro. After I click "Buy Book" and enter payment information, the assembly goes well, but it freeezes halfway through the upload every time. I can and have made a pdf of the book following Apple's instructions, and everything worked just fine with that. In other forums, the suggestion is to reboot the computer in safe mode. Is this suggestion only for people who couldn't create a pdf of the book? How will this help with the upload?

ErinWyoming, I'm sharing your pain. I've ordered 3 calendars in the past with no problem. Even using this computer and the same network. Currently on a MacBook Air running OSX 10.8.5.
But this order is driving me nuts. I can create the PDF and it assembles with no problem, but gets to either one of 2 points in the upload and basically freezes iPhoto (so freezes quite early on in the upload, or around half way through). I can't cancel the order, or otherwise use iPhoto and the only way to escape is to Force Quit iPhoto.
I've tried ordering in safe mode, I've tried deleting the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file as instructed elsewhere. I've tried different Apple ID's and different addresses. I've adjusted my energy settings so that the display and computer never go to sleep and my hard disk won't go to sleep. I've tried uploading at different times of the day. I've left it running overnight (just in case I'm not being patient enough). Alas, no order goes through.
I'm not sure what else to try. I'm getting to the end of my tether!! Anyone else got some suggestions?! I'm thinking (God forbid), of constructing the calendar elsewhere at this point .... I'm OVER it!!!!

  • I almost complete uploading a 32 page iPhoto book, on a number of occasions when I get an error message stating "An error occurred uploading your order" can anyone tell me why and provide a solution please?

I am having problems uploading a photo book from my MacBook Pro!!! I almost complete uploading this 32 page iPhoto book when I get an error message stating "An error occurred uploading your order" This error message has occurred for each of my four attemps to upload. I have carried out a Disk Utility-Verify hard drive check and swapped from wireless to ethernet and still no joy. Can anyone suggest why this might be occurring and provide a solution please?

  • Unable to upload iPhoto book to print from iPad

I have been unable to upload my iPhoto book to print it from my iPad...
It will go through the process of requesting apple ID password --> verifying my credit card --> then will say "placing order. uploading project"  and look like it is uploading (ie blue bar showing progress) and sometimes this is progressing for hours, but then the app will crash and close down.
Things I've tried/confirmed so far:  I have the up to date versions of iOS and iPhoto, I have it connected to wi-fi and plugged in, I have closed down all other apps on the iPad
Has anyone else had this issue? Any solutions?
Is there a way to upload it from my computer instead? -- I have a PC but have been unable to find the 'book' or photos in iTunes or elsewhere on the computer to even try this...
    Thanks for any help!

You have covered most issues, but you do not mention how much free memory you are having on your iPad. Submitting a book for printing need plenty of free memory on your iPad, about the same amount as the combined size of your photos. Could it be, that you are running out of memory?
Another reason might be an unprintable, corrupted photo in your book.

To order a photo book from Apple you need an Apple computer or an iOS device.
To transfer the photos to your PC see:

  • Why am I unable to upload an iPhoto book to the store?

I have created an iPhoto book and have been unable to get it to upload to the store. It assembles fine but an error message appears once it starts to upload.
    I am working on a 27" iMac with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 12 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, Lion 10.7.4.
I have taken the following steps to try correcting the problem. Verify Disk, Repair perrmissions and the entire sequence in iPhoto Library Repair.
This is the first book to give me a problem.

I am telling you, I know this from experience. Unless you have made the photo book with one of the fonts in the /System/Library/Fonts folder ( which are the only ones that Safe Mode does not disable ), the font on the book will change. The fonts are the likes of Helvetica and such, so that is not likely.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564
Like you said, of course you always preview before purchasing. That's what I did, and the pdf looked exactly right. But the books I received had the wrong font, which I could maybe otherwise live with, but the changed font also meant that the texts were cut off in the middle on some pages. So the books are unusable.
Of course this begs the question, since the pdf looked right, is it possible that the problem wasn't caused by Safe Mode but was a simple production error on Apple's end?
This does not make sense, since Apple Support clearly states that Safe Mode disables fonts.

  • Hi Guys, Im trying to send a 80pages IPhoto book to the store but the uploading fails, I tried several times and always a message "an error occurred" without clarification, can you help me?

Hi Guys, Im trying to send a 80pages IPhoto book to the store but the uploading fails, I tried several times and always a message "an error occurred" without clarification, can you help me?
Is there any size limit? or a limit of time to upload? (as it takes more than one hour!!!)

    Preview the book -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
if it is good boot into safe mode, preview again (only limited fonts are loaded in safe mode) and upload
