IPhoto 09 Calendar on an iMac G5
I'm making a calendar on my iMac G5. Any kind of editing of the photos is excruciatingly slow. Is this because of the G5 or is there a cache/preference file I can trash?
can I then re-import all my photos from the old Library?
If that's the case a rebuild with iPhoto Library Manager would be better - preserve more of your Library. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

After downloading iTunes 11, my calendar on my iMac (OS X 10.6.8) does not sync with iCal on my iPad 2. Why is this?
Ok, here's what seems to have worked....but will need to monitor to see if this stays "stable".
1) As suggested by King_Penguin in another Discussion thread [apple support > iPad > Using iPad > Discussions] (https://discussions.apple.com/message/15911962#15911962), I turned off iPhoto startup on the iPhone. Then ejected iPhone from USB.
2) Reconnected iPhone via USB. iTunes did not start up. Started up iTunes manually. Went to Summary page for iPhone, unchecked the "open iTunes" option, selected APPLY button. Let iTunes run its application process.
3) Then checked the "open iTunes" option. Selected APPLY button. Got a dialog box asking if I wanted "iTunes Helper" to be installed; selected YES. Let iTunes run its application process. Ejected iPhone. Closed out iTunes. Reconnected iPhone via USB. AND iTunes STARTED UP AUTOMATICALLY (yay!). Let iTunes do some backup and sync'ing. Ejected iPhone. Closed out iTunes.
4) Connected iPad via USB (on computer). AND iTunes STARTED UP AUTOMATICALLY (yay!).
I don't know for sure that the iPhoto "automatic launch" was causing the interference, but it seems like the "uncheck/check" the "open iTunes" option seemed to re-set the problem that I encountered. I don't want to say for sure that this issue is fixed, but it appears to be under control for the moment.

No you cannot sync an iPhoto library between two macs. If you do you will corrupt the iPhoto Library file. iPhoto is a consumer level app, and this feature is not supported.
What you can do is share the photos but not the library. Each machine will need to have it's own library file.
The easiest way to do it this is to enable sharing (in the iPhoto Preferences) on both machines (one sharing the library, the other looking for the share). When you do this the shared library will appear in the Source (or left-hand) pane and pics can be dragged from that to the library in the other machine.

I am unable to open Calendar on my iMac - this occurred after installing Security Update 2015-002. I don't know if related. A message pops up after several minutes saying Calendar quit unexpectedly (but it never really opens). How do get Calendar back?

We have an older IMac (preIcloud) and just purchased a new Macbook Air. Our Iphones are set-up to synch with the IMAC and my calendars on the IMac & the phone look the same. But when I open ICal on the MacBook Air my calendar is missing items? Help.
Are you wanting to import iCal to the MacBook Air. Since iCloud doesn't work with 10.6 OSX you probably don't have any data in iCloud yet?

For reasons best left unsaid, in a recent rebuild of my iMac and Time Capsule, I lost all my photos. I do however have them all currently on my iPad. Is it possible to retrieve my photos from the iPad back to iPhotos (now Photos) on my iMac?
have the photos on the iPad been taken with the iPad camera or imported using the camera connection kit?
Or have they been synced to the iPad with iTunes?
You can download any photos to your mac by connecting the iPad by USB to to your Mac and import to Phots, but this way only photos from the Camera Roll will be imported. If your photos have been synced with iTunes, you can only mail them to your mac.

You can't reimport pictures synced from your computer to your device back to your computer. You can only import pictures taken by your device, or saved to it, from your device to your computer. If you need to retrieve synced photos from your device, email the photos from the device to yourself. Then download the photos from the emails to your computer. -

where can I change the font settings for the name of the month in iPhoto's calendar project? I just ordered two copies of a calendar I designed in iPhoto and was surprised to find that the calendar's months were printing in something like an Arial 10 pt font. On previous calendars I've printer via iPhoto and Apple, the font was much larger. I've tried every menu option in iPhoto and the Calendar Project program and can't find where this is modifyable. Which leads me to ask, what the heck happened here in the first place? I did not consciously change the default.
I do remember that I got some notice when I first tried to print the calendar about the default font having been changed, but I don't know how this could have happened, and I didn't know what impact that had on the calendar until it was delivered. I typically print about a dozen annual calendars but won't buy another until I've got a handle on this problem. For the most part, the rest of the calendar is okay.
As a P.S. is there anywhere where one can get a power user's manual, or instruction on iPhoto?

(It could be a different matter if you are uploading the jpeg files for someone to download from the web to print.)
What are the sequence of steps that you and your batch processing take from Bridge?
You can use call Photoshop's Image Processor from Bridge to create the jpeg files (Tools > Photoshop > Image Processor). In the Image Processor you can set jpeg compression, pixel dimensions if desired, also convert to sRGB (good idea for web display). In my experience the image processor leaves unchanged whatever dpi is set in the source file; or, if none there as might be for a pdf, it will set the dpi value in your New Document Preset Print Resolution (from your Photoshop Units & Rulers preferences). -
Ever since upgrading to iTunes 11.0, I can no longer sync Contacts and Calendar from my iMac (10.7.5) To my iPad2 (6.0.1) via Wi-Fi. I believe All my settings are correct. Device is recognized and sync From iPad is possible. Tablet is past warranty, so TechSup won't help. Any suggestions?
Thank you Meta, but I could not get the calendar and contact sync with Gmail to work. Apple support already suggested to use Google or a Windows PC. Maybe I should actually reset and try my old Windows PC. Seriously, ... can this be the solution after a Mac OS update for pure Apple users?

Using iphoto 9.2.1 on imac osx 10.6.8 tried to open it, got a message that I had no library. Browsed discussions, followed directions to trash plist. Now have app,but no content. Backup unavailable, at least for now. help?
CarlWell if you're library is gone and you have no back up then you can try a File Recovery app like
File Salvage

i cant find iPhoto or iMovie in my iMac ....isnt this suppose to come preinstalled when i purchase my iMac ?
Did you purchase the Mac new? Or did you install Mountain Lion and do a clean install?
iPhoto and iMovie and Garage Band do not come with OS X. However, they do come with a new Mac. The first time you set up a new Mac and launch the App Store you will be prompted to enter your Apple ID and "register" iLife to it. This lets you re-download them on any Macs you own.
However if you do a clean install of OS X they're not installed, you'd need to go to the App Store and re-download them.
If you purchased a Mac used, the original owner registered them and you don't have rights to them. You'd need to purchase them on your own. -

OK...that sounds like a workable solution. Re: iCloud...I have this aversion about having personal things like all my appointments etc etc being out there in the Cloud. I actually started to use the cloud and found that when I set up the iCal, it deleted all of my calendar entries off my iMac and then I had to go to the cloud to see my Calendar. Somehow that seemed kind of backasswards to me. I want my stuff on the main computer I use. I assumed, maybe incorrectly, that if I got on my computer at home and did not have internet access...which can happen -- then I would not be able to see my calendar since the entries would be in the cloud. Is that faulty thinking on my part? Thanks for your assistance. Much appreciated.

Copied Iphoto 9 library to new Imac... question on faces...
Hi,
I have an old macbook with Iphoto 9 loaded. Faces never worked right on the Macbook and after a while, I just gave up.
I bought a new Imac yesterday and spent a while trying to figure out how to get my Iphoto library over to the new machine.
First, I used migration assistant and tried to migrate files from my time machine. It"migrated" the user that is defined on my macbook and the associated folders I specified in migration assistant (music, movies, pictures). I thought it would just populate Itunes, Imovie and Iphoto, but it actually just copied user "Mike" (my name is the user on my macbook) and the files, and then I couldn't even get at them (had some message saying they were locked or I didn't have permission or something to that effect)! I thought it would automatically populate Itunes, Imovie and Iphoto with all my stuff from the time machine... but nope.
So, I deleted the user "Mike" from my Imac since it was unaccessible anyway.
Second, I decided to open Iphoto 11 from the new Imac and use the "import photos" command from there. I navigated to the image folder on my Time Machine and imported that way. I got closer this time... but it imported 32,000 images when all I have is ~6000! Tons of duplicates and triplicates were loaded! Doh. Round 2 was a bust.
Third, I decided to delete the Iphoto library on the new Imac (since it now contained 32,000 images) and instead, straight up copy the Iphoto library from Time Machine and paste it into the approrpriate directory (this was midnight, so a little fuzzy, but think it was just in user>pictures... can't remember if there was an "Itunes" folder or not.) Regardless, the Iphoto library seems to have copied over OK! When I opened Iphoto this morning, it gave me a messahe about upgrading my Iphoto Library, but once that was done, all 6000 pictures were there, with all the events, etc. So everything seems just fine.
So really, 2 questions:
1) Was this the right way to have done it all along or did I screw something up now that I will pay for later? And if so, how should I fix it?
2) I want to wipe out my "Faces" and start from scratch. The "Faces" that are there now are left over attempts to get the Faces in my Iphoto 9 working (basically, it didn't work at all and the only phots in the folders are ones I manually put in there), and just want Iphoto 11 to do its thing without any legacy '09 attempts. How do I wipe out what is in the Faces Corkboard and let Iphoto 11 go to work with identifying faces from scratch?
Sorry for the long post, but figure some background would be helpful!The correct way to move Library is to copy it to the new machine and just open it. You got it right at the end.
Just erase the Faces. Select a Face and go command-delete

the only way is Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.
