IPhoto 09 (from iLife 09)

Up to my last upgrade to iPhoto 09 (offered online by Appple) iPhoto ran just fine on my G5, (PC chip - non intel).
IMMEDIATELY after the upgrade, iPhoto will display all events and folder, BUT if I select PHOTOS. ie all pics), my G5 goes into a spinning ball mode, and must be FORCE QUIT - (error message says iPhoto is "not responding)
Anyone any ideas !!?
LOTS of RAM, disk space - about 28,000 pics ?????
I can edit, add new events etc. - just not see any pics in full library

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • How do I upgrade to the new iPhoto from iLife 11 from iPhoto 8.1.2?

I have iPhoto 8.1.2 running on a MacBookPro using OS X 10.7.2.  When I went to the App Store to buy iPhoto from iLife 11, it pointed out I had 8.1.2 installed but not purchased from the App Store, and asked if I wanted to buy iPhoto 9.2.  Do I have to buy 9.2 first, then 11?

Marketing names and version numbers are confusing.
The marketing name iPhoto 6 corresponded to the version 6
The marketing name iPhoto 08 corresponded to the version 7
The marketing name iPhoto 09 corresponded to the version 8
The marketing name iPhoto 11 corresponded to the version 9
So, v9.2 is the current version of iPhoto 11.
Not that this is confusing or anything.

  • Reinstalling iPhoto from iLife DVD

After i migrated back from my Lion clone after a clean Lion install, i have had issues with iPhoto. How can i totally remove iPhoto, or another iLife apps, so when i reinstall the software, there won't be several copies of iLife apps left? Where are the pkgs. contents, etc for the iLife Apps on Lion? Also have Airport utility installed several times, and i need to remove those as well.
Oh, and when i reset my TC, i know i need airport 5.6 to set it up, but should i keep it installed and still have airport 6.0 as well? Or should remove 5.6 after i set up TC and wifi network, then remove 5.6 and install 6.0 ?
    Thanks

How can i totally remove iPhoto, or another iLife apps, so when i reinstall the software, there won't be several copies of iLife apps left? Where are the pkgs. contents, etc for the iLife Apps on Lion?
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Printing with themes in Iphoto (from ILife 08)

I suppose this sounds really silly, but were themes SUPPOSE TO COME with the ILife08? or is there something more we must buy? I don't understand the home based theme printing?

    Peggy:
Themes for what? There are themes for books, calendars, cards and numerous styles of borders for regular prints.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Help, I cannot install iPhoto from iLife 04 cd, i always get a message that one of these programs are opened itune, idvd, iphoto...
Iphoto is not installed in my computer.
    What should I do?

I had this same problem. There is probaby a iTunes help file or something like that running in the background. I think you can look in system profiler and find what is running and shut it down. Once you do this you should be able to load iPhoto for the iLife disk. I am not at my mac right now. I will check this evening when I get home and see where I found the file running and post a more detailed response.

  • I am unable to import new photos in iPhoto 11. Perhaps I should just reinstall from iLife disk? Will it affect my photos in any way?

    Hello,
I have iPhoto 11 installed on my MacBook. I am now unable to import new photos using USB or by plugging the camera directly into the laptop. Never had that probem before with this camera. Perhaps just reinstall iPhoto from the iLife disk?

    Hello Terence,
Okay I will try reformating the camera's card. However all is well when I export photos to my iMac at home or onto my iPad.
If your suggestion does not work should I try reinstalling iPhoto from the iLife disk? If so, how do I go about doing that or is there a website somewhere explaining this?
    Regards,
    Tom

  • I'd like to use iPhoto '09 with Lion. Tried to install from time machine back-up no go. Tried to install from iLife '09 DVD no go.

I'd like to run iPhoto '09 on Lion. Tried to install on Lion from Time Machine backup. Got message iPhoto won't work because of a missing Library file. Tried to install iPhoto '09 from iLife '09 DVD. Got message that it cannot be installed on my system. iMovie runs previous versions and iTunes runs previous versions.
Why can't iPhoto run on Lion? My wife has over 10,000 photos in her library and she's taken the time to sort them into folders. I've recovered the library with the folder sort but have to use it on an external drive with a Snow Leopard system on it. The latest iPhoto ('11) has no provision for organizing into folders. I'd really like to have everything in one place with one OS (Lion) and two iPhoto apps '09 and '11 and I suppose 2 photo libraries. I've been trying to resolve this ever since iPhoto '11 came out and I installed it. I can't begin to tell you how difficult it is to answer the question " Where are my folders?" brian25

I tried to check the Library setup on iMovie and iTunes. The iMovie Libraries seem to be part of the applications and my iTunes applications have become Russian so I have another problem. I tried to install iPhoto '09 again from my iLife '09 disk. When I selected "Custom Install" to load iPhoto only, the box I got said " A later version of this application is already installed" The iPhoto item which I would choose for a custom install says "skip". Yesterday I ignored this and went on with an install. The final screen said "Installation Successful" There was no iPhoto '09 on my hard drive. As far as I can tell, you cannot load iPhoto '09 from a Time Machine backup. There is no Lion compatable iPhoto '09 in the App store, and iPhoto '09 will not install onto Lion from the iLife '09 disk.I don't understand exactly what you mean by "load my backup and convert again" Do you mean go to the app store and access my purchases and re- download iPhoto '11 and reinstall it and re-convert my iPhoto library? I suppose what I should have done originally was to duplicate my iPhoto '09 library and put it on an external drive for safekeeping. Who knew it wouldn't install on Lion from Time Machine? When I downloaded iPhoto '!! from the app store I should have duplicated it and saved a copy to an external hard drive for safekeeping and then proceeded with installing iPhoto '11 on my hard drive.I suppose when the Thunderbolt concept is fully realized and monster Thunderbolt external droves are in common use this will seem a lot easier. I have rebuilt my iPhoto '09 library and have it on a hard disk that has a bootable copy of Snow Leopard and a working copy of iPhoto '09 also. I think you are telling me to reinstall iPhoto '11 on my internal hard drive and reconvert the iPhoto library used by iPhoto '11. Right? brian25

  • Iphoto won't open.  Reinstalled from iLife.  Little thing just spins and spins.  Any suggestions? disk and still nothing.

iPhoto won't open.  Little circle/wheel icon just keeps spinning.  Reinstalled from iLife disk, and still no luck.  Any suggestions?

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Installed iDVD from iLife 11 and now iPhoto won't open

Despite the decree from Apple that physical media is dead, I still wanted to make a DVD of something I made in iMovie but I could not find iDVD anywhere on my 2011 Mac Mini. Since iDVD was available in the App Store, I bought a copy of iLife '11 from Amazon and installed iDVD only (everything else was greyed out, except iWeb which I deselected). Now I can no longer open iPhoto! I can't remember the exact dialog box warning, but something about being damaged (I'm away from my Mac). I ran software update and there was an update for iDVD which I installed. I've restarted, I've repaired permissions, and nothing works. I've tried holding down Option while opening iPhoto but it still says it's damaged or incomplete.

In order to burn DVDs which are playable in DVD players (and TV), you need authoring/burning software - Finder cannot do that. It can burn DVDs which will play in computers, but not in DVD players. And yes, there are other burn software solutions; however, not one is close to the capabilities of iDVD.
For the OP: How did you initially obtain iPhoto? I would do a systemwide search and throw anything with iPhoto in the trash (don't empty!) - then reinstall iPhoto from the Mac App Store (if that is where you got it initially). If you can get past those hiccups, iDVD works well with both Lion and Mountain Lion; I have it installed and just finished a big movie project with it.

  • Uninstalling iPhoto Update from iLife

Does anyone know how to uninstall the iPhoto update from iLife (and even for iMovie too)? I really don't like the new iPhoto as simple things are now more difficult or aren't available anymore. The changes seem more superficial as I haven't found any new tools or processes that help. Don't even get me started on the iMovie problems. Please tell me there is a way to go back.

iPhoto 7 did not make things harder to do, in fact it is virtually identical to the previous version!
I generally agree - But a few things are different and there is a requirement that a user LEARN how to use the new features and those that have changed - for doing that you get a greatly expanded capability so IMHO it is a great trade off - but for a user who is unable or unwilling to learn a few new things it can be difficult - as can ANY new version of ANY new software

  • Purch. & installed upgrade from iLife 2 to iLife 08, but I have questions..

    Hi ~
_Purchased & installed upgrade from iLife 2 to iLife 08, but I have questions..._
First I made sure I backed up my 5,500 photos in iPhoto to an external hard drive. (The only downfall to this backing-up process is that I haven't found an easy way to back-up the comments attached to each photo. Any advice on this? Part of the "horror" to losing one's photos is also losing the comments added to them over the years.)
Back to the install... I installed iLife 08 and it installed correctly. I checked to see what version of the applications I have in the dock on my desktop - I figured it would just import existing data (photos, tunes, etc.) into the newer version and replace it in the dock - +it only did this for iDVD+, of course it wasn't that easy for the others.
I can't find the newer version of iPhoto. My iPhoto in the dock still says version 2. iTunes in my dock is version 7 (7.4.2). iMovie is version 3 (3.0.3). But the new Garageband is there in the dock. And of course, iDVD is the newer version '08.
I am most concerned with iPhoto and making sure all the photos AND their comments import correctly into the newer iPhoto 08. I am nervous about this so I want to make sure I do the process correctly.
I also want to make sure my iTunes information imports correctly to the newer version as well.
    Thank you.
    Sincerely,
    Kathy

If you backed up the iPhoto Library Folder then you got everything - photos, albums, comments etc

The Dock is not important. Look in your Applications Folder for iPhoto 08. That's where it should be. The Dock is just a shortcut to that. What version is in your Apps folder?
To upgrade a Library from v2 to iPhoto 08 all you do is open the Library with the newer version.

  • Upgrade iPhoto from 8.1.2 to 9.6

I need to upgrade iPhoto from 8.1.2 to 9.6 for iCloud use.
iLife "11 is no more available, and I am afraid to loose my picts, or the key words and faces, if I install the 9.6 version and if I need to amalgamate or import my picts in the new version.
I'm distressed because I entirely do not trust iPhoto backup with Time Machine since Maverick upgrade...

I need to upgrade iPhoto from 8.1.2 to 9.6 for iCloud use.
This means you must first update your OS from 10.9 to 10.10. Thereafter you can upgrade your iPhoto to v9.6
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • Can I update iPhoto from version 8.1.2 to 9 or higher versionfor free?

Can I update iPhoto from version 8.1.2 to 9 or higher versionfor free?

Is your profile signature "Mac OS X (10.6.8)" still current? With that MacOS X version you can upgrade to iPhoto 9.2.x. Only, the iPhoto version 9.5.1 currently sold at the AppStore requires MacOS X 10.9.x. If you you are not running Mavericks, you could try to buy a boxed retail version of iLife '11. That will have a compatible early iPhoto 9.x version.

  • I am using iPhoto '09 Version 8.1.2 but can not use iCloud with it. I've looked for updates in iPhoto and iLife'11 but no luck. Suggestions very welcome.

No you won't necessarily lose your photos when upgrading but it's very very unwise not to back up first. Backing up is like using a seat belt in a car. You can drive without one for years and have no issues, but if you do have a problem the outcome will be a lot worse. So, too, with back ups. And upgrading is one of those times when the risks of a problem are higher.
