IPhoto '09 interaction

I just wanted to organize a bunch of photos, maybe some basic cropping, rotating of images, etc., then upload them to flickr.  However, iPhoto is getting on my bad side.
1st, I created a set to put a bunch of vacation photos.  Then I re-arranged them into the order I wanted.  Mostly this was fine.  When I exited iPhoto is saved the arrangement.  However, in at least one occassion it did not save all the arranging I did--what a pain!
2nd, when I finally had enough of screwing around with iPhoto, and feared even more time and effort would be lost, I figured I just better upload the entire lot (about 680 photos) to flickr.  Well, then iPhoto informed me it would only upload 500, dropped the remaining photos from the set, and then proceeded with the upload.  What?!  If there's a problem, please confirm if that is what I want to do.  I've used computers for a very long time, and I never have dealt with an application that made such broad assumptions as to what should be done.  Ease of use is one thing, but just doing things without confirmation is just poor design and interaction.
Is iPhoto '11 any better, or should I look for something else?

I don't know, but I think this is an iphoto problem, not a PSE problem per se. I'd ask in the iphoto forum over at apple's support site. Once you save it and leave Elements, PSE  no longer has anything to do with your photo. There are some very good people who know a LOT about iphoto over there.

  • Accidentally clicked delete after iPhoto import

Greetings, I just accidentally clicked delete all after importing from my wifes iPhone 4s to her iPhoto library. I very quickly grabbed the USB cable out of my mac mini and the photo's are fine in the library and phone. But I'm curious about what will happen now (leaving aside the ungraceful usb dismount).I've been backing the phone up nightly both into iPhoto and iTunes. If I plug that in tonight will iPhoto remember that bad click and begin deleting the 3k images on her phone? Her iPhoto library had 8k+ images, so if that happened I can't think of how I would know which ones to restore (of course, hoping someone can tell me "that won't happen" or double your money back ) Any ideas on what will happen and/or how to recover if the worst does?

    Sorry to be a pest (here's the but);
Larry I know it's unsupported, the warning dialog tells me so "would never be done" is a -completely- different idea. Users -often- use software outside it's design parameters that's why STE and STD's  lurk forums like this. I get that maybe they're not going to help me out but I'm giving them the option. Also, I grok usb, despite my mistake I've used Unix since the 80's and usb since the month it was released. Users make mistakes If I've corrupted the volume I'll take my lumps, and restore from iTunes. that's not really my question.
    I'm asking about iPhoto.
iPhoto was where I clicked delete all. There's no danger of iPhone backup deleting images from my phones camera roll. -iPhoto- will interact with the phone the next time I connect it, I'm just curious if the expected behavior is for iPhoto to remember that the user clicked delete and the phone was  disconnected before the process ran, and go back to catch up on the request (despite the app being quit and the machine restarted). Or if iPhoto will detect that the phone went away and say "well, I guess we'll skip that one".
I'm curious to know if anyone here has insight, if not I'll plug it in tonight (France time) and let you all know if it was easy or if I had to do a phone restore.
    -Pestarily yours, Boyd

  • Where are my Photostream pictures?

    Hi,
I use an iPhone and a Mac. I have enabled Photostream on both.
I do not use iPhoto on my Mac. I don't want to use iPhoto. I am a Photoshop user and I prefer to manage my files at the file system level.
When do the photos from my iPhone get to my Mac? Does this work even if I never run iPhoto? If so, where do the photos end up?
I have no interest in iPhoto. I just want the pictures I take on my phone to get into my computer on a regular, and reliable basis.
    Thanks.

I believe on a Mac to use photo stream you either have to import them to iPhoto or Aperture. If you don't want to use iPhoto, you could just enable photo stream in iPhoto, then add your photo stream photos to Finder for easy access as described here: http://osxdaily.com/2012/05/18/access-ios-photo-stream-from-mac-os-x-finder/.  This will allow you to copy them all to another location of your choice for your Photoshop work without ever actually using iPhoto to interact with the photos.

    The least Apple could is.
    A. Update itunes to run on a G5
Regarding iOS 7.0 you have totally lost the plot.
    We buy apple why?
    Quality.
    Intuitive interface.
    Stable software.
    Design.
All that Steve Jobs consider sacrosanct.
Quality is about ongoing support longevity of product.
Its not about trying to sell to every person on the planet, others are way ahead of you.
So try respective the customers you have, it wont be long before theirs a better operating system and your lead in hardware is marginal.

My post on facebook this morning.
If you have an iPhone or iPad do not update to ISO 7 unless you want an operating system that looks like windows 8. The graphics looks like it was designed by a artistically challenged mongoose and the operating system is not intuitive something apple users expect. Overly complicated ugly and generally change for the sake of apples paranoia since the death of Steve Jobs.

You need to update iTunes to 11.1 on your PC

  • How do aperture and iphoto interact

I am purchasing a new imac this week and am trying to get an idea on what software I want.  I've been using adobe photoshop elements for the past few years when I needed to fix any photos and iphoto to sort and 'hold' my collection.  I've been reading about aperture 3 and cannot find clear information on how it does or doesn't interact with iphoto.
From what I've been able to discern, aperture is more of a photo management system and PSE is more of a photo adjustment program.. correct?
So if I buy aperture3, when I download photos, does Aperture receive them or do they still come in through iphoto?  And if it is the latter, do iphoto and aperture work together?
I've looked at some earlier posts but I have not found a clear answer.  I do not want to duplicate software but I also was not that clear before on how iphoto and PSE might work together.  It seemed like I had iphoto import the pictures and when I needed to, I opened pse and used it to fix or play with a photo.
I also have my camera software, but the sort of adds to my confusion.  But maybe computers that don't have a program like iphoto need the camera software.
I'd appreciate hearing what works and what experienced aperture and/or PSE might tell me.

    Hello Calxoddity, Roger and Kirby,
All three of your answers were very helpful and I appreciate your time.  I tried to send this reply message a few minutes ago and when I went to hit send, it said I was not logged in... I HAD been logged in so maybe it timed out.  Anyway, this post comes through twice I am sorry.
I was feeling pretty befuddled with what to do, adding this topic to the decision on which computer to buy, etc.  So your time and wisdom helped me to get my needs into perspective.  I think I will start with the newer iphoto that comes on my imac and get PSE9 since my version of PSE is very old.. LOL  and then, spend some time learning about aperture 3, since as Roger mentioned, I can import/move the files over to aperture at a future time.  Since aperture 3 is the most expensive, it seems a wise move.
Oh, did read Kirby's article/post, thank you, very well written to help a newbie get a handle, and will watch the online tutorial for aperture 3 as well.  And maybe it will tell me there, but right now, with iphoto I can easily email a photo and I think it will easily be shared with an ipad2.  If I get aperture 3 and use it instead of iphoto, does it have an easy interface for sharing via email and/or the ipad?
    Thanks again, you are great!

  • After long term excellent performance iPhoto 09 now sits under the bottom of my screen and will not open and interact in the usual way ... Whats up?

When I hold my mouse on the icon the iPhoto 09 program opens on the desktop, but does not permit the usual interaction...when I try to click on the program it disappears again at the bottom of my screen.  Please help,  Thanks in advance, Charles

Sorry but I don't really follow your description of the issue. Some basic fixes:
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
    If that doesn't work:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
    Regards
    TD

  • IPhoto interacting with Facebook Albums...

I just reorganized all of my facebook photos into new albums.  I wanted to upload some more photos directly from iPhoto but it is NOT recognizing any of my new albums.  How do I get it to bring in the names of these new albums so I can use them properly?  Is it some kind of re-booting I need to do?? Preferences??
    Thank you...

That is not the way it works
You can not "link" iPhoto to existing Facebook albums - you create them in iPhoto and then there is bi-directional syncing between that album in facebook and iPhoto. If you create albums in Facebook you can not manage them from iPhoto - only albums created in iPhoto

  • How do I successfully upgrade my iPhoto Library from 7.1.5 to 9.5.1

I've been running iPhoto on my MacBook for the past 6 years. I've accumulated a library of 280GB of photos. I had iPhoto '08 v 7.1.5 (387). Recently, I got a new Mac running Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1. Using the Migration Assistant, I copied my library over to the new Macbook Pro, along with all my other files. I opened iPhoto on the new mac, and it showed a completely empty library. A 'du' from the command line (as well as Info in Finder) of the iPhoto library showed it had 280GB of space taken up, so the files were copied over correctly. Running 'find . -print | xargs md5 | sort' on both libraries before before trying to run the new iPhoto produced identical checksum on all the files (I wiped the new mac, reinstalled Mavericks and migrated again before running this on the new library).
I've also tried copying the old library to an external hard disk, same results (on file systems formatted to ignore case as well as those formatted to respect case, in all cases it was a MacOS Extended partition).
I've also tried creating a new library on the old mac, putting 2 photos in it, editing those photos (to flip and crop them). I copied it over to the new Mac (volume formatted as Mac OS Extended, ignore case, journalled), verified that I was using the proper path to this new library and that the files were identical. Same result.
Over the past two months I've tried everything I could find. One thread said I needed a migration program from such an old version of iPhoto for the Mac, so I tried downloading that from this forum, but it told me I didn't need it when I ran it.
I've tried dragging individual folders of the Originals and Modified directories over. That got my photos transferred, but the events were all messed up and the assiciation between the Original and Modified photos was lost. Since I have 43,995 photos, 23747 of which have been modified, I don't find this to be an acceptable migration path.
I tried posting this to another thread on failure of iPhoto to upgrade properly to Mavericks, but was requested to post a new thread due to protocol in these forums, so here is the new thread after making an admittedly snarky comment that Apple totally dropped the ball on this upgrade path and that it totally doesn't work. It should be this hard for a clueful computer professional with 30 years of experience to get it right.
    Yours In Frustration.

There's actually an option to iPhoto Library Manager that makes this all almost work flawlessly (and work well enough for me). With the exception of Photo Albums that the pictures are part of, if you select "Library > Rebuild Library..." and then select "Scavange Orphaned Photos" check box, then it will put all the Photos and Movies into the "Scavanged Photos" album. It matches the modified pictures to their originals. It preserves all the event names and photo groupings. All the meta-data I could spot check it got right (although with 44k pictures, I only checked a few). If you fail to select this option, however, it will find no pictures at all when it goes to rebuild the library (this was true of the small test libraries I tried as well as the big, monster 280GB library I just finished converting). The conversion process took 5 hours to run, but in the end produced a library my new iPhoto can read and that I can interact with. I'll be suggesting to the iPhoto Library Manager folks a notation that would estimate the number of Orphaned Photos and display that number as a hint to the user that the option would be useful.
Edited: Thanks to Old Toad and LarryHN for their help in finding which of the many options to transition this library to 9.5.1 I needed to use. Sorry if I took my frustration of the past several months out on you guys for generously trying to help me.

I could never reopen iPhoto successfully yet.

I forgot to mention that iPhoto indeed worked with the above setup with the iphoto library on the NAS(with 20-30 files). I was hoping it was one-time setup(import) that is all I have to pay in time upfront. Not for my trickle load of 1 or two photos daily. Apparently iPhoto does not scale well. I counted 27 threads for the iphoto executable. Why does it take close to 24 hours to import is beyond me. I can download 15GB from internet faster than this ...
I fail to understand the technological bottleneck!
Regarding the file format it is some proprietary format(may be linux ext...), but it surely did work fine...
    Please see below:
The Western Digital units mentioned above use a proprietary file system and cannot be reformatted as FAT32, NTFS, or a Mac File System.
The file system on the WD My Cloud EX2, WD My Cloud EX4, WD My Cloud, WD My Book Live, WD My Book Live Duo, WD ShareSpace, WD ShareSpace, WD TV Live Hub, My Net N900 Central, WD My Book World Edition, WD NetCenter hard drives support access from Windows, Mac and most Linux based computer systems through a SAMBA network sharing connection.

  • My MacBook Pro is running painfully slow all of a sudden. I am trying to clean up my iPhoto library and it's all of a sudden running really slow. I've uninstalled and disabled as many unnecessary apps as possible as far as I can tell.

Here is the etrecheck info. Please advise... thank you!
    Problem description:
iPhoto is running painfully slow. My library is on an external hard drive. It was runing just fine yesterday. i disabled Dropbox and a few other applications, to no avail.

  • Importing photos crashed & now froze, how do I "stop import" in iPhoto?

I connected my camera to the macbook and once all my photos displayed, I selected photos I wished to import, and clicked/dragged them into a new Album that I created. I have always done this in the past, but this time while the photos were being imported, it seemed to have 'freezed' in the middle of it.
The camera listed under Devices still appears as if its importing. When I click onto the "Stop Import" button a pop-up window appears, asking: "Do you want to delete or keep the photos imported so far?"
It allows me to choose between 3 options:
Continue importing, Keep photos, Delete photos.
I've tried all 3 options, however nothing seems to work. There were no photos imported into the album; nor will the device cancel the import. Now I can't get it to go away, even when my camera is disconnected from my laptop. furthermore, when I tried reconnecting my camera, it will show up as a second device (meanwhile it is the same camera) and when trying to import other photos from it, it won't allow it because iPhotos thinks it is still importing the photos from the initial try. Please help me fix this, thanks!

While I am not sure what is going on with iPhoto & why it seems to have
failed while you were attempting to import image files from a camera, the
thing to try and do now may be to repair disk in the computer. This can be
done in a variety of similar yet slightly different ways, using Disk Utility.
Presuming you are familiar with using Disk Utility from either/or the booted
OS X installer DVD (options menu in Installer's header, once started from
the disc while holding C key down.) - OR from the Disk Utility version in the
computer (see GO in Finder, go to Utilities folder in drop-down menu, and
choose Disk Utility and launch it) and when this utility is running, choose
the Macintosh HD from the left-side menu within it, and then select the
'repair disk permissions' from the choice of click-on buttons available.
One fair choice before doing the latter, in the above, would be to start
the computer while holding the Shift key down, and hold that down
until you see a login screen, after logging in (admin password) then go
and launch Disk Utility, and run 'repair disk permissions' then when done,
    quit Disk Utility and restart the computer. (Starting in SafeBoot, helps;
and running disk utility to repair permissions does a little more.)
Starting the computer with the Installer disc in the optical drive and the
C key held will start from the Installer; from the Installer's header, there
are options in drop-down menus, including Disk Utility. You can choose
to 'repair disk' or 'repair disk permissions' and 'verify' the disk. While
there, you could do all three. When done, quit Disk Utility and choose
to restart the computer using the Startup option in the Installer menu.
There may be something else going on in the computer, so to start with
what could be called 'general maintenance' may help; for more depth in
matters such as this, there are free-running utility interface tools that do
tasks in the OS X that should be done, one way or another. Instead of
doing some of these in Terminal or single-user modes, you can run one
of these utility tools to perform routine upkeep on the OS. The one I use
more often (maybe once every two or three months) is OnyX; it is free
and can be downloaded from Titanium Software online. In this, I use the
selection accessed in the Automation choice, and check-box all options.
(This can do many more things, so some effort should be taken to learn.)
If the computer's hard disk drive is getting too close to full, odd things
will happen to the system and whatever apps you run in it. Between
having sufficient installed chip RAM, and adequate unused space in
the computer's hard disk drive, these factors will affect performance
and the lack of working space in the hard drive can cause data loss.
Using Activity Monitor, you can tell the running status of the computer
and its OS, and the resources available to the configuration. You can
also identify the computer for the sake of discussion (precisely define)
by using the System Profiler; and note there are several kinds of info
disclosed in these two different processes.
Crashes and freezing events leave an activity log; there are several
kinds of logs available through the Console (utility) in its menu. The
logs of events can be relatively cryptic but sometimes they repeat a
message and in those, some do cite a cause or event. Date/time of
these is part of the logged event schedule.
If the hard disk drive is getting fuller than ideal, the computer can
freeze or apps can be slow to react to your interaction with the GUI.
So, to find out what else is going on in the computer system & apps,
will take some effort. There is cause & effect, and when things get
strange, symptoms can vary. Troubleshooting can take some effort.
Some kinds of crashes that do not take down the computer, are
different than those which obviously do; some are 'kernel panics'
and others are sometimes lesser events. There are times when
a lesser kernel event may affect the apps and OS; but they go
back to a cause. By providing some information on the status of
the computer's hard disk drive, used capacity verses unused, and
the amount of installed chip RAM, these may help tell a story.
So, there may be more than just the camera and iPhoto involved.
Sometimes, just by restarting the computer, a simple issue may
cease to be a problem; but by starting up as suggested previously,
you can initiate some basic repairs and maybe get that camera
issue to go away, at least for now. But more is going on to cause it.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Don't change 1st slide of a show created in iPhoto '08 and converted to '09

I discovered that a slideshow that was created in iPhoto '08 and then converted to '09 (i.e., the whole library file was converted) can cause iPhoto to freeze if you change the 1st photo in the show, e.g., by moving another photo into the 1st position (iPhoto doesn't crash -- it just fails to respond to all mouse interactions, and you can't even kill iPhoto via Apple-CMD-Q).
So -- warning if you have '08 slide shows converted to '09 -- don't try this!!!
I have submitted a bug report to Apple's iPhoto support, but my guess is that the bug is due to such a weird combination of circumstances that they won't place high priority on fixing it. In case you're interested in further details, here's the description I wrote in my bug report:
    ========
I recently bought a new iMac with Leopard and iLife '09. I copied several iPhoto '08 (version 7.1.5 -- I believe that's the latest version available for OS X 10.4) library files from an old PowerBook G4 running OS X 10.4.11. When I opened them in iPhoto '09 iPhoto asked me to convert them to the new version and I did so. I can view, edit, run slideshows, etc. of all my updated iPhoto '08 library files fine in iPhoto '09 -- except for one very annoying bug!
When working in iPhoto '09 with a slideshow that was created in iPhoto '08 and converted to '09:
When I move a slide in the slideshow browser to the 1st position of the slideshow and then either Play the slideshow or try to select other photos in the slideshow browser that causes iPhoto to freeze (not crash, there is no Crash Log file). iPhoto stops responding to mouse clicks, there's no way to unhide the Dock with the mouse, and I can't even kill iPhoto with the Apple-CMD-Q keystroke (to terminate iPhoto I use Apple-CMD-TAB to switch to a Terminal shell, find the process id, and then use the shell's "kill -9 pid" command). When this happens I find that after moving a slide to the 1st position in the browser the 1st position in the browser shows a blank instead of the photo that was moved there. When I click on other photos (other than the 1st one) the image gets refreshed with the wrong photo (the one next to it instead of the correct one). However, I have been able to change the 1st slide by deleting it.
It seems that this error only occurs when moving or changing the 1st slide. Making changes to the other slides in the slideshow doesn't cause any problems.
This error also happens when I make a duplicate in iPhoto '09 of a slide show that was originally created in iPhoto '08 and then converted to iPhoto '09 and try to change its 1st slide.
When working with slideshows created in iPhoto '09 none of these problems never occur.

I have been having this same problem even with slideshows created in iPhoto '09. I also reported it to Apple Support. I found a work-around in the meantime, and it might work for you as well.
First of all I discovered the problem when I moved the last thumbnail into the first position. What eventually worked was moving that thumbnail into the second position, and then moving the first thumbnail into the second position. For some reason this did not cause a freeze, and the slideshow played.
As for iPhoto not responding to mouse clicks, I had the same experience. I placed my cursor on the desktop and clicked on it. This enabled me to access the drop down menu from the Apple icon and then I was able to use the force quit option.
I hope this information is helpful.

  • Can you use iPhoto as your referenced library in Aperture 3?

Hi folks, new to the forum here and I've searched around older posts for an answer to this dumb question but can't seem to find it. Any insight much appreciated.
I'm a relatively new mac user, migrated over just under 5,000 photos from Photoshop Elements on the PC to iPhoto on my new iMac and very happy with it. I was going to get the new PSE for Mac to use as my editor with iPhoto, but now that Aperture 3 is such a ridiculously good price on the App store I've been testing that out and I love it!
So the question is, as I start to get more serious about my photography I would love to be able to use Aperture for everything - but the rest of the family just want the simplicity and great interface of iPhoto for the family shots. Can I / we keep importing, storing photos in the iPhoto library, and everyone else just uses that for the cropping, red-eye removal etc., but I can access the library in Aperture (sort of like a referenced library) make changes, add versions etc. without messing it up?
Hope that makes sense, and again, apologies for what must be the millionth time this question has been asked.
    James

    In a word, no.
Aperture and iPhoto are entirely different applications that work in very different ways.
The only communication between the two is as follows:
Aperture is able to parse the iPhoto Library to allow it to import the contents while stacking the Originals and Modified versions, preserving metadata and so forth.
Aperture can share its Previews with the iLife apps, including iPhoto.
    That's it.
So, specifically, what interaction there is between the two is designed to facilitate migration from iPhoto to the more powerful app. After that, iPhoto has exactly the same relationship to the Aperture Library as, say, Pages or iMovie.
    Regards
    TD

  • Does iPhoto 9.6 work with iCloud Photo Library at all?

I have iOs 8.1, but I have not enabled iCloud Drive or iCloud Photo Library yet, and I have not updated to Yosemite yet. I don't want to activate those until I know how photos between thee mac and iPhone will work after they are enabled.
Does iPhoto 9.6 interact at all with iCloud Photo Library? Does it even "see" iCPL photos similar to PhotoStream? Can it import from there? Do any of the crops and edits come through in iPhoto from the iOS photos app (whether imported from the iCPL or even via direct d/l from the phone via usb?

So what are you guys doing to manage your photos until the OSX Photos app come out? Just not using iCloud Photo Library at all I assume?
Can you use iCloud photo library but still manually import photos into iPhoto from USB import?
You can view your iCloud Photo Library (Beta) and download from iCloud Photo Library (Beta) at https://beta.icloud.com  or https://www.icloud.com  on your Mac, if you click the "Photos" icon. Click the "?" mark, to view the help for "Photos". But you cannot yet upload directly from your Mac to this library, even if the iCloud Photos Help is saying otherwise.
You can download to your mac from your devices using USB, but with iCloud Photo Library (Beta) enabled on your iPad or iPhone, you can no longer sync photos to them using iTunes Photo sync. So it is hard to get any photos onto your devices at the moment, other than using Photo Stream. To upload  photos to your iPad/iPhone using iTunes you have to disable iCloud Photo Library. And the synced photos will be erased, when you enable iCloud Photo Library again.

  • Panoramas in iPhoto '09

    A. When I would make a panorama, here's the steps I took:
    1. Take pictures with my camera.
    2. Import into iPhoto'09.
    3. Assign titles to pictures and export into folder on desktop.
    4. Open Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 and import photos from desktop folder.
    5. Let APE 6 create panorama and then save it back to the desktop folder.
    6. Import it using iPhoto'09. Edit it using enhance, crop, straighten, and adjust if necessary. It worked perfectly.
    B. I updated to Snow Leopard. When I imported it into iPhoto'09 and did the normal edit's everything slightly changed. As you can see in the attached movie the finished panorama would change sizes. I assumed that it was an interacting between iPhoto'09, Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 and Snow Leopard. So, I ordered Adobe Photoshop Elements 8. NOTE: I cannot add a movie file, but I did add it to the same question in the Adobe forums.
    C. I installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 and it's still doing the same thing. Note it only changes size when I click on a panorama picture. The 3rd picture was a normal size single picture.
    D. I have an Early 2009 24 inch iMac (2.93 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo) running OSX 10.6.1.
    E. Anyone have any suggestions or did you have the same problem and what corrections did you do?

See if you can straighten the photo with PSE before importing into iPhoto and then do just the other edits, crop. adjust, in iPhoto. See if that will avoid the problem.
Do you have a Canon camera? If so there's an application, PhotoStitch, that came with the camera and that may create panoramas that don't have issues with iPhoto.
