IPhoto 09 - lost all my pictures?
Background: I noticed a few days ago that when I clicked on a thumbnail in iPhoto'09 it opened up to a big exclamation mark on a black background. I rebuilt the library by opening up iPhoto while holding down OPTION + COMMAND, and selected all of the options. I opened iPhoto and got this message:
"The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library."
So I hit UPGRADE and got this message:
"You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
So I think I'm stuck...? Can anyone help. I saw some questions similar to this, but the threads seemed to focus on external hard drives, which I'm not using. And, like a fool I don't have Time Machine backing my hard drive.
Your Library database file is corrupt, and so is the automatic back up.
If you have an up-to-date back up you can restore it.
Alternatively: Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

No, updating does not. Within your pictures folder in your user folder, is there an iPhoto Library file? If so, is it large? If it is, your pictures are still there. Try starting iPhoto while holding option and command, this will rebuild your library. If they are not in there, go to a recent backup or TimeMachine and restore the pictures to the folder.

I downloaded Aperture and transferred all pix from Iphoto. Everything was on Aperture. Suddenly I have lost all the pictures. I have a handbook, etc., but to no avail. Help!
When this happens to a new user the two most likely causes are:
Aperture opend a different library that is empty. To check this go to File->Switch to Library. You'll get a window that looks somehting like this:
Of course the names for the libraries will be different. What does yours show? Is there more then one library listed. If you select Other/New you get this:
The first library in the list is the currenttly opened Library. What does you window say?
2. The other possibilty is that you have a filter set on the library keeping you from actually seeing the images in it. Go to the Library tabb of the Inspector and select the Photos icon. Make sure the search box looks like this:
If neither of these two actions clear up your problem post back.

Urgent Help Needed - i-Photo '11 Lost All My Pictures !!!
I have just bought the trio package of OS-i-Life and i-Work and has installed them all. I have started to use i-Photo. I have converted my i-photo library to the new format. The faces ran over night and finished creating faces for all my pictures. Today I have spent almost entire day tagging names to people in my library. Shortly after I was done tagging all names, I was checking the whole program in the full screen mode the program shut off. It was actually the 3rd time it has done that Today. Every time it was shutting off it was just loosing the last tagging information (before I could press the DONE button). But this time it is disastrous. When I start the i-phone program, I receive a warning window which says the i-phone library can not be recognized and the only option in the window is pressing QUIT which shuts down the i-Phone program. I have lost all my pictures. Did anybody encounter something like this before? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.

Omg:( kill me then. I store my photos in my laptop. But i reset my aunt's phone, and she doesnt have anything: no apple id, no icloud. Normally when i reset mine, my phone back up everything.

my pc crashed and i lost all my pictures and music that was stored on the pc. now i have a new pc and when i log into itunes all my music and photos are not available. I guess i dont understand the pupose of itunes and its worth. I thought it backed up all my photos and music, but apparently not. So what do I use so that when i lose data on my pc i can retrieve it again at a later date or after a crash?/
Your content will only be where you put it. It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
You can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone: File>Device>Transfer purchases.
You can import your pics taken with the iphone as you would with any digital camera.
You can e-mail the other pics to yourself, they will never be of the original quality.
You can out a unique contact and calendar entry on the computer. You should get the option to merge the data when you sync. -

i connected my iphone 5 to my computer for the first time since i got it and it didnt give me any option and just started to restore it from my iphone 4s. ive now lost all my pictures that were on it. Is there a way i can get them back as i did not want it to restore my old phone anyway! i also had my hone set up to the cloud and it didnt work! PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME
Can you try to use another computer?
If this does not work, visit an Apple Store or an Authorized Apple Service Provider next to your place, and show them the phone, maybe they can restore it before you'll have to get it serviced.

I change my apple ID and password like a week now and after changing all my information and MY apple ID, i noticed that i lost all my picture in my camer roll and my photo stream too ;(.. Can anyone please help me how to bring it back all my photos?
I don't know about your camera roll, but for photostream just do this:
Go into Settings > iCloud > Delete Account and then sign back in using your Apple ID information.
Make sure to do the same thing with your iTunes and App Store options.
Settings > iTunes and App Store > Click Email and sign out, then sign back in. -

Since swapping my broken iphone 4s for a new one i have lost all my pictures from camera roll but they are still saved in my instagram. Is there a way to get them saved back to phone? Also my whatsapp is not working since upgrading to IOS6??
Please help.You can not put them back in the camera roll. The camera roll is temporary storage for new photos taken with the phone. You can sync them back to your phone in another album using iTunes.
As for whatsapp, ask the developer. That is not an Apple product. -
I own elements 9. All files were backed up to a external hard drive and then downloaded to a new PC, with windows 8. I have lost all my pictures, albums and tagging. How do I retrieve all of this back into Elements 9?
It appears that you have made a backup via Windows and not via the integrated backup/restore process in the organizer. Since the albums and tagging are stored in catalogs, they are lost unless you also made a backup of the catalogs themselves.

Are you talking about restore of the iPhone from its backup, or something else? The first time you sync an iOS device on each calendar day iTunes will update the backup set for the device. If you remove data from the device and backup, then the backup of that data has gone. For this reason it actually makes sense to restore an iOS device periodically as, once used for a restore, the backup set is archived and a new one created.
Ideally you would have backed up these pictures somewhere. If you enabled it, you may find pictures in your Photo Stream.
In general you need to keep a backup copy of all your important files. iTunes will let you download most past purchases from the store but backing up other content is down to you. The user Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy suggests a way to do this for iTunes, but the same tool can be used to preserve other folders of data.

Albums is a way or sorting photos. Photos aren't moved from the Camera roll. The Camera Roll consists of all the photos on the phone. If you delete from Camera Roll they are deleted everywhere but Photo Stream.
Are you using Photo Stream? Your photos, providing they wer recent should still be in Photo Stream. If you have Photo Stream set up on your computer they should all be there.
