IPhoto 09 no longer recognizes my camera

I updated recently to snow leopard and iLife '09 and my camera no longer shows up on the device list in iPhoto when i plug it in. This happens with my card reader (which I used to use all the time) and the camera itself. Plugging either in will trigger iPhoto to open, but then the camera (and the thumbnails) never show up.
I read another topic with someone saying the same thing about their iPhone with iPhoto and it was suggested to remove the com.apple.iPhoto.plist so I thought i would try that, but it doesn't appear to exist in my Library/Preferences. Lots of com.apple.... but nothing for iPhoto.
Can anyone help? My apple care is expired and can't be renewed, so I can't call in for help.

but it doesn't appear to exist in my Library/Preferences.
It's in Users / Your Name / Library / Preferences. It's there alright. iPhoto simply won't run at all without it.
If the Card is not recognised at all, you may need to reformat it in your camera - but do this after you have got the pics off as they will be erased in the process.

  • Iphoto will no longer recognize my camera, says it does not recognize the format....they are jpegs? And now it will not even open when I plug my Canon Eos Camera in to download. I have checked everything on the camera and it is working perfectly....

Iphoto will no longer open when attaching my Canon Eos Camera. I have checked the camera and everything is working perfecty. When I open it myself, Iphoto is working perfectly too. But now when I attach the camera, Iphoto no longer opens at all. Yesterday it did open after a really long wait but it kept saying that it did not recognize the "format" of the images....they were jpegs??? Then it flashed on and off and if I hit download at just the right second they would download. But today it won't work at all. Any suggestions.
    thanks

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

able to solve this ourselves?   My brain hurts.
No it is not worth investing in this because it is a very expensive way of getting viruses. These detectives and those who say they can find the fault on your machine by installing their software are bunch of hackers.
If your camera is not recognized then it suggests that either your USB is faulty or the cable linking the two is faulty.
Can you connect anything else like a flash drive to your USB port that you are using for your camera and is it recognized?

  • IMovie 11 no longer recognizes my camera

Hi -- I have a SONY HDR-CX580 AVCHD camcorder from which I have been happily transferring my videos into my iMovie 11 (version 9.0.8)  on my MacBook Pro.  A few times it wouldn't work but I've always been able to make it work by trying a few times.
Today for some reason that stopped -- iMovie is no longer recognizing or connecting to my camcorder, all I can see is the Facetime HD built in camera.  I've read other forums and tried restarting the computer and connecting the USB cable from the camera to my MacBook Pro in various orders but to no avail.
I've also followed the instructions to trash the plist files here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4061. iMovie is still not recognizing my camera. I'm a little out of ideas at this point.
I can connect to the camera with iPhoto and download photos no problem.
Anyone else have this issue and how did you solve it?  Apple tech support people please help!
    Birgitte

    Jim,
Thanks so much for your answer.  I'm trying to avoid that since importing directly makes the video files unpalatable to iMovie... not sure what/how to convert them so I can actually import them into iMovie and work with them.  However I discovered that it's the physical card in my camera that's causing iMovie not to recognize the camera -- I tried another card in the same camera and iMovie immediately connected to the camera.
So I guess I will have to import the videos from the card and reformat it.  Anyone who's had to do this before I would be grateful for tips on how to transfer from card to computer and then what to convert the videos to so iMovie recognizes the format.
    Thanks again in advance...

  • IPhoto 08 no longer recognizes my pictures!

Recently, when I opened IPhoto 08, it gave me a message that I needed to upgrade my thumbnails (I do not remember what the exact message was). I clicked OK. Ever since, IPhoto no longer recognizes my pictures. It is as if they are completely gone. Thankfully, that isn't the case (they still come up when my screen saver kicks in).
I tried reinstalling ILife 08 but that didn't have any effect. I thought about reverting back to my previous version and re-upgrading, but I wanted to check here first.
Quick responses would be appreciated - I really need access to my pictures!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You're experiencing a damaged database file. Try the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open Photo window
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
To recover a little easier from similar damage see the tip at the end of my signature below.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Iphoto will no longer download from camera

I have been using the earliest version of iphoto for several years and it worked great downloading from my Canon Powershot S1IS. About 6 months ago some of the images started coming in with parts grayed out, not all there, etc. Then it went through the entire download process with nothing showing up. I upgraded to iphoto 6. Now it tells me the images aren't a recognizable format. Any idea what the problem is? The camera/card works at digital output places???
    Mac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

You might try downloading and running the 10.4.9 COMBO updater followed by a repair of disk permissions. It's been noted and recommended by Apple for a number of fixes, especially when incremental updates have been applied via Software Update.
    Do you Twango?

This solved my questionRe: ios update problem - 7.1 11D167 iphoto not picking up new photos
Mar 20, 2014 7:15 AM (in response to JdinPa)
I figured out the fix for the Mac users having this problem. I connected my iPhone to my iMac and started iTunes. A dialogue came up in iTunes, I OK'd that and then OK'd the usual "Do you trust this Mac" that comes up on my iPhone.
Suddenly Image Capture launched itself and there were all my photos, ready to be downloaded.
As a workaround see if Image Capture can see and download your photos to a folder on the Desktop.  They can be imported from there into iPhoto.

  • IPhoto 11 will not recognize my camera or card reader

My new iMac with iPhoto 11, on Lion, will not recognise my camera, a SanDisk card reader or, for that matter, my iPhone 4.
It means that I cannot put new photo's into iPhoto.
From other forums and threads there seems to be an Apple issue but no fix.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

The point of using a  Different Account on your Mac is that it will tell us if the applications are sound or not. If the problem occurs in another User account we'll know the issue is systemic. If it doesn't then we know the apps are sound and the issue is something in your account.
Basic troubleshooting: try the same things using different cables. If the cable is faulty then that's how we'll know. That fact that other features work using this cable means nothing. A connector cable has several strands. One could be damaged.
Ditto for using different USB ports  on the machine.

  • IPhoto 05  does not recognize my camera

Installed iLife 05 last spring. Dug out my SONY Mavica CD300 camera this winter and 05 does not recognize it. The previous version (03, I think--came with computer) did recognize it. SONY support was no help; they suggested Image Capture, which didn't recognize it either. Now what should I try?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
You could try to rule out a hardware problem with the camera's USB port, USB cable, or your Mac's USB port. Open your System Profiler (Applications > Utilities > System Profiler) and see if the camera is listed under Hardware > USB. If the camera shows up there, a hardware problem is unlikely. If it does not list there, try a different USB cable, different port on the Mac, or try the camera in another computer.

  • IPhone 4S no longer recognizes back camera or flash after updating to iOS 7.1.1

I tried force quitting the camera app, then resetting, and restoring.
The camera app displays a black screen and is nonfuncitonal.
Any other apps that use the back camera are unable to use it.
Flashlight app, which uses the flash, reports that no flash is detected.
This happened right after installing iOS 7.1.1 so I don't believe it is a hardware problem.
I think it is a bug in iOS 7.1.1 for the iPhone 4S.
    What can I do?

    Hello DanMBoston,
It sounds like you are unable to use the flash or the rear camera since updating to iOS 7.1.1 even after quitting the app, restarting and restoring from a backup. That is where I would have started as well. I would next restore your device one more time, but as a new device rather than from a backup with this article:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
If it works when set up as a new device, restore from your backup to see if it still works, or if there is an issue with the backup file.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • IPhoto no longer recognizes camera in 10.6

    Hello,
I just upgraded to Snow Leopard. Now when I open iPhoto it no longer recognizes the digital camera (Canon PowerShot SD960IS). No change in the settings. Worked fine in 10.5
Anyone else experiencing this? Any solutions?
    Thanks.

Okay. I rebooted the machine and ran iPhoto again.
This time it recognized the camera, but it took a full 5 minutes to display all the images.
Strange because there were only about 50 photos (2-3MB each) to preview.
Importing was equally as slow. Took about 8-9 minutes to import everything.
Something strange is going on with 10.6, iPhoto, and preview/importing of photos that wasn't there in 10.5.

  • Photos does not recognize my camera when I try to import

When I try to import I keep getting an "error -9937". Tried using image capture as a possible solution but it also doesn't recognize my camera. Went back to iPhoto and now it no longer recognizes my camera. It worked perfectly fine until this recent update. Any ideas? I don't want to use the Cloud.

I have seen quite a few similar questions, but none was solved:
    com.apple.imagecapturecore error 9937
AFTER UPDATING UPDATE OS X 10.10.3 IMAC NO LONGER RECOGNIZES JPG AND CANNOT DOWNLOAD FROM CAMERA
And all were for Canon cameras.  Is your camera also a Canon Powershot?  If that is the case contact Canon for help.
As a work-around:  Try to read the photos from a card reader and not directly from the camera.  It is less bother and you avoid problems, if the batteries in the camera are low.

  • IMac, suddenly, no longer recognizes Cannon PowerShot SD750

For some odd reason my mac no longer recognizes my camera. It worked fine a week ago but when I plugged it in today, iPhoto doesn't automatically open and it doesn't even show up on my desktop. The only place where I can find it is in the system profiler, under the USB section. I tried repairing the permissions and restarting my mac and formatting the card in the digital camera but, so far, no success. All that happens when I plug the camera in is that the last photo viewed on the camera shows up on the camera's lcd display. This is pretty frustrating and any help would be highly appreciated.

I'm not sure that iPhoto's the problem - after all, Image Capture doesn't see the camera either, right?
    However, to re-install iPhoto
    First: *Back Up Your Library*
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applcations Folder to the trash)
    2. Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only...’

iPhoto 4.0.3 no longer recognizes my Casio. It says no camera selected. Apple Help couldn't "help". Any solutions our there?
