Iphoto '09 not playing movies

I just got a new canon powershot s100 and when i imported the images to iPhoto '09 the stills display fine but the movies I took on the camera don't open or play. I click on them but nothing happens. Does anyone have any idea what I might do to get these movies to play? I'm have a MacBook OS X version 10.5.8... Thanks.

Couple of things might be at issue here:
You're missing Codecs and Drivers - check the Canon site for updates.
Your OS is too old to deal with the HD movie feature - Solution: Upgrade

I am using iPhoto '09 v8.1.2 and QuickTime Player 10.0 on Snow Leopard 10.6.3
I deleted QuickTime 7 Pro after upgrading to Snow Leopard.
My digital camera is a Pentax Optio S6 that creates movies in the MPEG-4 format. The ending of the movie file after transfer to the Mac is .avi
What Codec do I need? Or should I reinstall QuickTime 7 Pro?

  • Latest version of itunes does not support Quicktime can not play movie from library

Latest version of Itunes does not support Quicktime.  I can not play movies out of my itunes.  Please fix

I don't usually download video from the iTunes store. I had a couple of long plane rides coming up and thought I might have time to watch the Stanford IOS7 programming class. On the plane I discovered this issue which has gone unaddressed since 2011 and has been worsened in Mavericks. in 2011 the advice was to open iTunes' get info pane and click run in 32 bit. That worked at least for some people. In Mavericks, iTunes will not launch in 32 bit.
For the files you can locate in the finder ( mine are at
    /Users/raine001/Music/iTunes/iTunes\ Media/iTunes\ U/Developing\ iOS\ 7\ Apps\ for\ iPhone\ and\ iPad/1.\ Class\ Logistics\,\ Overview\ of\ iOS\,\ MVC\,\ Objective-C.mp4
) you can click on the file in the finder and it will launch in QuickTime. For some reason on the plane I could see the first lecture in the iTunes view but, although I could see all the other lectures in the finder, I could not see the first one.
Ah well, maybe some other year I'll think about getting up to speed on ios7. Heck, maybe by then they will design a decent user experience.

  • Quicktime 7.6 NOT playing movie trailers from Apple site???

I have all the latest software OSX 10.56 running on a 3.06GHz Intel Duo but Quicktime 7.6 will not play movie trailers when on the Apple site. When I try, the site advises I need the latest Quicktime which I have already downloaded and installed fresh. It just doesn't seem to recognize it no matter which movies I try and view.
    Please help if you can?
    Thanks

It's a piece of component software that's used by QuickTime to allow it to decode or encode different types of video/audio formats. The issue for me was that I had an old codec still in my system that should have been deleted/replaced during the last update, but was not. So when QT tried to access what it thought was an appropriate up-to-date decoder, it couldn't process the video with it and gave me a blank screen. Something similar could be happening to you as well.
Try deleting all of the QuickTime components and folders in your system. Because you're using Leopard, I'm not sure all the files will be where they are for me. Do a thorough search of your system and clean out any QuickTime files you find, they'll be in HDD/Library, HDD/System/Library, and HDD/Users/"yourusername"/Library. Then reinstall QuickTime using the installer from Apple's downloads page(or Software update will probably work as well). You'll have to restart afterwards and make sure to repair permissions after you've rebooted(use Disk Utility). Then test out the trailers again and see if that solves it.

  • HT3775 Hi...I have the OS X v10.6.8 but my QuickTime is not playing .mov files. How can I fix this?

Hi...I have the OS X v10.6.8 but my QuickTime is not playing .mov files. How can I fix this?

Hi...I have the OS X v10.6.8 but my QuickTime is not playing .mov files. How can I fix this?
Depends of the specific kind of file you are trying to play. MOV refers to the file container. Any data compatible with the system used to create the file can be placed in an MOV file. If you don't have the same codecs available on your computer to play back the file or if your version of the QT player does not expect expect the encoded data to be in an MOV file container, then it cannot/will not play the file. Use the Finder Info window, media player Inspector/Information window, or a dedicated utility to determine what compression formats were used to create the MOV file and then install the required codec(s) if available.

  • 10.8.5 ITUNES WILL NOT PLAY MOVIES DOWNLOADED FROM ITUNES

Downloaded the new iTunes last night and it seems to work well with music but it will not play movies I've downloaded from the iTunes store. The sore works, Radio works, I can buy from the store but movies I have from iTunes (Star Trek, The Incredibles, ST: Into Darkeness among others) strat then crash. I get a message about an error with a plug in (FX I think) that has failed or is not found.
Anybody else seeing this? Any solutions?
    Thanks in advance.

Okay, I think I found my problem. I have SRS iWOw installed and the FX plugin is part of that. If I disable iWow all movies play as they are supposed to.
Looks like I need to contact SRS for an update/upgrade or dump it and find another sound enhancer app.
    Thanks fo looking.

  • Iphoto won't play movies

A while back I tried housing my iphoto library on an external drive, but it kept giving me issues when the drive went to sleep and the computer tended to freeze up.  So, I finally moved it all back to my local hard drive.  But when I did so, I seem to have lost the ability to see all the movie files that we had imported into iphoto from my camera.  The movies are still there (when I go into the deeper folders) but they don't seem to play from within Iphoto.  Instead I see a black and white exclamation mark inside of a triangle caution sign when I double click on the thumnail and the movie doesn't play.  I know it is a movie b/c when I ask for more info, I see its properties.
I have tried rebuilding the library, (which I'm sad to see threw off the orientation of my of my photos) but that didn't seem to help.  A further complication is that this also seems to be applying to my RAW photos, except that with those, the caution sign appears (even in the thumbnails) but if I wait for a second, it actually loads to RAW image.
Any thoughts of how to have Iphoto re-recognize the movies as movies in particular?
    Thanks,
    Robin

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • PS3 (blu-ray player) will not play movie after menu selection on this particular project?

When trying to play my finished Blu-ray disc on PS3 the menus display and work good. However, when I choose a selection to play the movie it returns back to the main menu. It doesn't matter if I choose the main play button or one of the chapters on the scene selection menu, it does not play the movie but rather returns to the main menu. Menus appear to be working fine!
I've used Encore for years and I'm pretty familiar with the ins and outs of creating DVD's. I'm a little new at creating Blu-rays but have found the process very similar to creating DVDs with the addition of being able to add Popup menus. I pretty much followed the same process as a Blu-ray I created a couple months ago which worked fine. So I'm pretty much at a lose how to trouble shoot this issue. The only thing that has changed is that I've upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite but I really don't know if that is a factor or not. Encore did not run into any issues while working on the project.
Everything works when previewing my project in Encore. All the menus and buttons work and the movie plays fine. Also, no errors are reported after running the Check Project process on the Build tab.
I usually create an ISO file to burn from later. Encore created the ISO file and reported success.
I'm running Adobe CS6 on a Mac with Yosemite. FCPX was used to output the AC3 audio file and 264 video file. Menu transitions are ProRes422.
So far while trouble shooting I've made 3 coasters.
1st disc was created using Yosemite Disk Utility to burn the ISO file created by Encore (my usual way).
2nd, and 3rd disc I let Encore burn directly from the project.
3rd disk I removed the PopUp menu as I've only done one in the past and figured I would try that as a trouble shooting step.
So, since everything appears fine Encore I'm really not sure how to trouble shoot this. I wish Apple would support Blu-ray better so I could just open the ISO file in DVD Player like I do when I create DVD ISOs. So much easier than having to trouble shoot by creating coasters.
If anyone has come across this issue before and has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. I'd like to complete this project and move on.
    Thanks in advance!

Well, at this point I'm thinking maybe something is wrong with the movie files output from FCPX even though they play fine in Encore. I noticed that there is a one frame difference between the video and audio file. The video file is 00:38:45:01 and the audio file is 00:38:45:02. I already output the file using Compressor. However, I'm still seeing the exact same time difference between the video and audio file when imported back into Encore. I'm going to rebuild the Encore project from scratch using the movie files output from Compressor and try again. If that doesn't work I'll use 7toX to convert FCPX XML and try importing the XML into Premier Pro and output the movie files that way for Encore. Or, output a master file from FCPX and let Encore do the transcoding.

  • Itunes 10.5 not playing movies on apple tv

iTunes 10.5 has been nothing but trouble since I first tried to install it.  First there were registry issues preventing me from installing.  Fixed those.  Then it wouldn't connect to Home Sharing.  That went away somehow.  Then it kept disappearing from my Apple TV, which I fixed by adding manual entries to my Windows Firewall.  Now I can't play movies from my iTunes on my Apple TV, which is bizarrely frustrating because I could two days ago.  I can play music and even music videos, but no movies.  The movies play fine on my PC.

    Hi Scott,
i have very similar problem but even with older versions.
all of my devices all use iOS 4.x, iTunes upgraded to 10.5 since a week now.
    here is my situation:
    - My itunes Windows 7 PC can ping all other devices.
    - AirportExpress Admin Tool cannot find any device.
    - iTunes does not find remote Speakers.
    but:
    - iPad1 & iPhone4 with iOS 4.x can play movies via AirTune EVERY time.
    - AppleTV2 with latest iOS update can play youtube videos and online streaming content EVERY time.
    - iTunes Windows PC has online Access every time.
    - iTunes has well working access to NAS Harddrive with music and photos.
to me it seems like bonjour does not work quite well, but i have no idea how to double check connection. is there a way to do ping / traceroute / nslookup from ATV2 without jailbreaking?
I would really like to have more technical information in iOS devices to do error determination and investigation.
last weekend i completely reinstalled Windows 7 and iTunes from scratch, as my problem exists since a couple of iOS 4.x updates. i remember it worked quite well in the beginning of 2011 with iOS 3 everywhere.
    any ideas welcome !

  • Itunes will not play movies... To play this movie install quick time

I downloaded itunes on a new computer and it won't play movies.  It keeps giving me the error "This movie requires Quick Time which is not included in this version of itunes.  To play this movie install quick time."  I've installed Quick Time, uninstalled it, installed it again, tried a change and repair trick that I read about but nothing has worked...please anybody help.

Okay ... that's left the field a bit open.
Can you check something for me please? I'd like to try doing a "Run as administrator" on your iTunes.
    Quit iTunes first.
In Computer, open Local Disk C: or whichever drive you have your program files installed on.
    Open the "Program files" folder.
    Open the "iTunes" folder.
Right-click on the iTunes.exe file and select "run as administrator".
Try playing the movie now. Does it play for you without the message?

  • IPhoto will not play song purchased from iTunes in slideshow

IPhoto reports the song as not being authorized on this computer.
When I go to iTunes the songs are all authorized to play on this computer, and they do play in iTunes.
    Here's the message from iPhoto:
This computer is not authorized to play "17 Good Riddance.mp4".
If you purchased this song you can open itunes and authorize this computer to play this song by entering your Apple ID and Password".
When I do this, nothing changes. I can repeat the process a number of times and the purchased song will not play.
Anyone else deal with this and find a solution?

I did the burn and re-import and that works just fine. Would like to resolve this so I do not have to do that work around though.
Haven't posted at the iTunes forum as it seems like more of an iPhoto problem since the songs in question play fine in iTunes. It seems that iPhoto is the program having trouble with the DRM on slideshows.
I'll check around over there though.
Thanks everyone for such quick responses.

  • IPhoto will not play iTunes music in slideshow

Slideshow I created in iPhoto will only play theme music.  When I select my music from iTunes, the slideshow does not play the music. I have made dozens of slideshows before without this problem.  Seems to be a bug with iPhoto now.  Any suggestions??

Assuming this is for iPhoto on your Mac:
Launch iTunes use the File -> Library -> Organize Library -> Reorganize Library menu option. Then quit and relaunch iPhoto.

  • Quicktime will not play .mov files since Lion installation

When using Quicktime 10.6, I am receiving the error message "...file could not be opened. A required codec isn't available." when attempting to open .mov files.  Prior to installing OS X Lion, there were no issues with playing .mov files.

I'm having the same problem. Using a clean install of Mac OS X (10.7) Lion and QuickTime 10.1.
    If I go to finder:
I can click on Icon's Play arrow and the Movie will play in the icon.
I can click on the file icon and press the spacebar and the file will play in QuickLook.
If I doubleclick on the icon to open the file in QuickTime, I get the "...file could not be opened. A required codec isn't available." message.
If I right click on the icon and click open with... QuickTime, I get the "...file could not be opened. A required codec isn't available." message.
