IPHOTO 09+SNOW LEOPARD= TOTAL CRASH !

Last july I upgraded from Tiger , iphoto 06, Powerbook G4 to the newest MBP 2,26,2 gb, 500 gb, iphoto 09 and now Snow Leopard.
The first migration was not so bad. But There were many duplicates and many Thumbnails without original pictures. so the library became of 95,000 jpgs (originally 25,000). after Trying to clean it (using Duplicator annihilator, and the script to delete vacuum spaces) i decide to create another library, re-importing pictures from the PB, now with more carefully.
The new library was ok, only 25,000 pics. Another time i got thumbnail without pictures and it was very slow, I tried to rebuilt the library and after this I found thumbnails and related pictures.
A week ago, i upgrade to snow leopard... TOTAL CRASH!
Opening Iphoto and trying to open a picture... crash
...In Italy we say "dalla padella nella brace"...
After reading many posts and forums
I tried to:
- Rebuilt library
- Trash iphoto and re-install it
- Upgrading Ilife 09 with the last support
- Check permissions of Iphoto and of all the disk
- create another user, (using the same library)
Nothing to do to Iphoto, is still Crashing.
I'm thinking to my old powerbook...
Now i'm using Aperture, Trial version, using iphoto library. It's no bad, but a little bit slow, But next month i'll must to pay It!
Please help Me!.. I loved iphoto (the old one)
and sorry for my English
many greetings from Naples, italy...

"+Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder."
*Done. Still slow, but not stopped. A little bit better.*
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)+
*How i can reset my account options? Some things are different in Italian language.*
+Doing this:+
+create another user, (using the same library)+
+Is pointless as the problem is the Library. In the new account simply create a new Library to see if it works.+
+Post the Crash Log.+
*It's not a really crash, but an endless waiting with the multicolor circle. After many minutes i have to make an hard exit (commandoptionesc)*
+Happened because you imported one library to another, as opposed to simply updating it.+
*How I can do a simply update? Using "import" in the archive menu?*
*But so I must move the library to import in another folder, because i can't import from other iphoto library folder. I will try it.*
*thank's Terence, You're great.*

  • I upgraded to snow leopard but iphoto was not included. How do I install iphoto on snow leopard 10.6.8?

i upgraded to snow leopard but iphoto was not included. How do I install iphoto on snow leopard 10.6.8?

IPhoto is not included in any OS upgrade. It is a seperate application. Unless you choose to erase your drive when you upgrade no application including iPhoto is affected by the upgrade (except potential compatibility issues). If you need to reinstall iPhoto for and reason you do it from the original source. Either
1- the restore disks that came with your computer
    Or
2- the iLife DVD upgrade that you purchased
    Or
    3- the App store

  • Appropriate iPhoto for Snow Leopard?

I primarily use Snow Leopard, OS X 10.6.8.  I'd like to use iPhoto but can't - trying to launch iPhoto 9.4.2 tells me that I need os 10.4 and above, and trying to use iPhoto 8.1.2 tells me that there is a problem and then shows lots of diagnostic information.  Some where  in the discussions I learned that I need iPhoto 9.2.3.  So, I went to the App store and searched for iPhoto 9.2.3 and got no results.  So, two questions:  is iPhoto the appropriate iPhoto for Snow Leopard?  If so, where can I get it?

I'm sorry but I'm not clear on what version of the OS you actually have.
With 10.6.8 you can go to iPhoto v9.3.2 - to get that you'll need to purchase an iLife 11 install disk. The App Store only has the latest version, (v9.4.2) which only runs on 10.7.5 or later.

  • What is current version iPhoto for Snow Leopard?

What is the current version of iPhoto for Snow Leopard?  I have used iPhoto ever since 10.6.8 was installed --use Software Update all the time, my current iPhoto says it's v. 8.3.1.  Now, suddenly, when I try to open iPhoto, messages says : " The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library.  (choices are)  Quit - - Upgrade"
I am fearful to click the upgrade because I have assumed iPhoto was up-to-date for this OS 10.6.8.  Fearful, because I envision losing the whole iPhoto library.   I was in our local reseller/retailer yesterday and was encouraged  to "just go ahead and click it!"  but tho' I'm not a nerd, I need to understand what's going on here !  WIll appreciate any thoughtful counsel . . .

9.2.3, which is part of iLife '11.

  • Ipod touch won't sync with itunes, only iphoto after snow leopard update upgrade

Have just put snow leopard onto my mac book 4.1. Can't get my ipod touch 5.1.1 to sync with itunes. It syncs with iphoto every time, but no device comes up in itunes or in finder. I have the latest software updates on both mac & touch. Any ideas?

See the following. Do not forget the Additional Information paragraph.
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
The iPod will not show up in Finder.

  • CS4 Master Edition & Snow Leopard all crash when saving and exporting

Add this one to the list of suffering CS4 users. My first ever post in my life.
The details - CS4, Master Edition Mac Pro, all did run well on old leopard system.
The story, upgrading and updating to 10.6.1 all CS4 programmes instantly crashed when using save as, save, or export. This happens about 70% of the time.
An erase of the hard drive and fresh install NO UPDATES CS4 was fine, After a couple of days I took a chance and updated the apple software (included is HP printer driver 2.2 and canon printer driver 2.1 included in the update package. almost as soon as the printer driver was around 50% downloaded CS4 started crashing. (photoshop / illustrator / indesign) All updates from apple are now installed and I have to save at almost every stroke I make in CS4 as I have deadlines, and I have fooled around too much with this upgrade. I will not go into the inability of scanning with my HP CM1312nfi MFP (networked), but any resolution there would be nice also, as now I have to scan to the memory card and then network out to the the desktop.
    Mac Pro Mac OS X (10.6.1) Serial - YM90101ZXYL - BUILT 10B504

I tried all suggestions with no real good effect. I spent two hours reinstalling Leopard 10.5 and CS4 Master now all is good and staying good. That proves something is up with Snow Leopard. I will wait for the upgrade and response before I will touch Snow Leopard again. Save your time and money and do not buy or use this operating system yet.

  • Safari 4.0.3 (Snow Leopard) ExternalInterface crash

The ExternalInterface callbacks on several sites that I've setup have begun crashing the new Safari shipping with Snow Leopard.  Anyone else seen anything about this?

I'm not certain that it's ExternalInterface causing the problem.

  • CS2 Will No Longer Run on Snow Leopard Always Crashes!

Hi, I have been running photoshop CS2 on my new Apple (Snow Leopard 10.6) since March and now for some reason it crashes every time it starts. I can occasionally get it to work, but no one procedure works consistently. Yesterday I turned of my computer and turned it back on and opening PS first and it worked today the same tactic didn't work. Should CS2 work on Snow Leopard? Mine has been working perfectly for more than half a year! Can anybody help?

Hi Chris. I installed it again and yet again the program was identical as if it had never been taken of my computer. The same styles in my styles pallet were still there and the colours I last used were again still in the tool box. I don't get how this can be!
yes it crashed again as usual, I looked for the crash log after the crash, you get the “Problem Report for PS” box and if you click on “show details”  there is an absolutely massive piece of text. I have just included the top few lines hope this is helpful.
If Rosseta is crashing, I don't know why it has been fine for about half a year and now suddenly it has decided to crash! Many thanks for your help.

  • Best way to re set-up iPhoto on Snow Leopard from Tiger

Currently have Tiger OS and iPhoto. My iPhoto Library is on an external HDD. Also I have separate folders on the external HDD containing some .jpegs which should be in iPhoto and all my movies .avi which could be in iPhoto. I am about to upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard.
What I am wondering is how I can consolidate my all my photos/movies into the new (Snow Leopard version) of iPhoto when I install. For example, in the iPhoto Library folder 2006, various .jpeg and .avi files from that year are not there - they are in a seperate folder "2006" (because I moved them using Finder when I was a Mac newbie).
Would it be better to copy all the .jpegs in the iPhoto Library into a single folder, then add all the stray photos from elsewhere in the filing system to that folder, then ask the new iPhoto to import photos from there? Or should I manually copy stray photos (eg. those from 2006) into the relevant iPhoto Library folder prior to the new installation.
Final note. I have around 50,000 photos and on my current system iPhoto is very slow to initially load up - is there a filing configuration which would make the app work more efficiently or does the SL version do that already?
    Thanks.

  • Black screen in Iphoto after Snow Leopard upgrade

Hi, I've just upgraded the OS to Snow Leopard and now when I try to view or edit in iphoto the photo appears and then the window goes black - has anyone else seen this? Any suggestions how to fix, I've rebuilt the photo library but this hasnt helped.

Sometimes it helps to know you're not alone. I'm facing the same thing. Called Apple Support. They told me to reinstall iPhoto '09 (which I did), rebuild the libraries (which I did). Still getting the same problem.
I also find often that when I attempt to crop a photo, the screen image distorts and stretches to the desired size, instead of crops.
Something to do with the way Snow Leopard uses Open GL?

  • Snow Leopard intermittant crashing with Tascam FW-1082 interface

Since installing Snow Leopard, I can no longer use my recording interface.
If it's on, the system crashes hard at random intervals. With it off, no
crashes. I've emailed Tascam about this but haven't heard anything back
    yet.
This is from Tascam's Europe site:
Support for Mac OS X 10.6. (Snow Leopard)
28.08.2009 - Though some Tascam products might function fully or partly under "Snow Leopard", Tascam is currently not supporting the new Mac OS X 10.6 operating system. As new drivers become available, they will be posted to our Product and Support pages for Tascam products on the internet. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
If you haven't upgraded yet and use any Tascam products it might be a good idea to wait a while.

Reinstalled the Tascam drivers. This seemed to resolve the crashes. Still no 64bit support though.

  • IPhoto for Snow Leopard?

I'm selling my '07 Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard to a family member. They want iPhoto, but I can't buy it from the App Store because the latest one (iPhoto '11) is not compatible with Snow Leopard. I tried buying Mountain Lion, but that OS is not compatible with my computer.
Any thoughts how I can get iPhoto on this computer without buying an old version second-hand? This computer still has great life in it, but according to Apple it is obsolete. I guess it wasn't worth $2,499.00 after all.

There isn't any version of iPhoto on this computer because it has been wiped and a fresh OS installed. (All of my Apps and data are on my new computer). iPhoto doesn't come standard as part of Snow Leopard OS, which is merely 3 years old. I can install a very OLD iPhoto (probably 6) that I have, but that is not ideal. Or I could find version 8 or 9 that works with Snow Leopard so my sister can use it. Here is my sister's scenario... Husband has recent Macbook Pro with latest iPhoto. Sister wants her own Mac (uses PC primarily for work) and they want to share same iPhoto Libraries on networked drive. BUT.... Sister has no way to access iPhoto Library from latest version because she cannot install latest version of iPhoto on her used computer, which still runs great with Snow Leopard.
By the way, I had purchased iPhoto '11 (version 9.2.1) in December 2011 and installed it FINE on this Snow Leopard computer. Now, suddenly, 9.3.2 cannot be installed on this same computer. If I login to the App Store, it wants to install 9.3.2 instead of 9.2.1 (which I purchased). VERY frustrating. The lifecycle of Apple's hardware and software is becoming increasingly short (and expensive!)

  • Quicken 2006/2007 crashing due to Snow Leopard? (crash report attached)

I have spent several hours with Quicken, on the phone, chatting and email instructions. Q2006 and 2007 crash when I try to print or export qif. This starting happening after I installed Snow Leopard. I have trashed plists, installed patches, updated to 2007, booted in safe mode, created new user/new admin, new files, etc. It always crashes. I have repaired permissions repeatedly, run Onyx, deleted caches, etc. I uninstalled silk and reinstalled Q2006.Their tech support insists that Snow Leopard is to blame. I reinstalled SL and Rosetta; nothing changed. It will let me download and enter transactions but sometimes it opens with data from 2007. Here is the crash report:

Start there to be sure all fonts that are in play come out with a clean bill of health.
Don't hesisate to perform wholesale deletion of old and/or little used fonts - be skeptical of anything that has come from Office 2008, including those related to an Equation Editor installation.
By all means be sure any 3rd party apps AND plug-ins are Snow Leopard compatible.

  • Just upgraded to Snow Leopard - iTunes crashes when adding music

    Hey all,
Earlier today I upgraded my mac from Tiger (10.4.11) to Snow Leopard (10.6.2) and ran updates. I have iTunes 9.0.2 installed and my itunes library backed up on an external HDD. So I copy my library back to the itunes folder on the new install (Did a complete wipe and new install not an upgrade or anything) and then added the itunes folder in (approx 5000 songs).
It then crashes my whole PC while 'Determining Gapless Playback'. So I press the little X to cancel that and iTunes works but is really laggy and slow.
Then iTunes started freezing my Mac on startup which is just annoying! I then decided to add my library gradually. I managed to add all the 'A's 'B's and allowed it to run the gapless playback stuff and album art stuff inbetween. I then got to the 'C's and it froze on 202 of 235 songs.
I am really baffled as to why it is doing this, and my only thoughts are that either there is an Issue with iTunes and snow leopard, or my hard drive is on the way out?
    Any help/thoughts most appreciated

Think I possibly have corrupted files in my library as I have successfully transfered all my purchases from my iphone back into itunes, so think I will just need to re-import all of my CD's at some point

  • Upgrade from iPhoto of Snow Leopard

My current OS is Snow Leopard and I purchased and downloaded iPhoto '11 (9.2.3) online. The installation seems fine. Then it tried to upgrade my photo library.
The size of my library is 100 GB. iPhoto then claimed to be working on the library, with the white wheel keep on rotating, for over 8 hours now. Nothing else happened.
I can modify the items in Preference, such as "to show the number of photos in each folder", and the number of photos in those items did appear. However not a photo or folder appears on the main screen.
Should I wait for more time or something is wrong?
    Thanks for your kind attention.
    Beatrice_dad.

I would start over and begin by rebuilding the Library:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
Now try update. If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
    Regards
    TD
