IPhoto '09 won't import JPG files from my phone.

Here's the step-by-step
I have a new Samsung Evergreen phone that evidently stores photos in .JPG format, not sure yet if I can tell it to save them as .JPEG.
On my MacBook, I have over 10,000 photos in my iPhoto library imported from several different cameras and copied from previous computers.
I attach the phone to the Mac with a microUSB-->USB cable. (( BTW - MacBookPro is Intel Core 2 Duo ca August '09 ))
Phone wants to know about USB mode.... I select "Media Player"
iPhoto'09 (V 8.1.2 (424)) comes alive recognizes the device, finds the pictures, and offers to Import them. Cool!... I select "Import All".
iPhoto goes through the motions of importing all 22 files then displays a message "The following file could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format.) this is followed by a list of all 22 files.
I know that most, if not all, images in my iPhoto database are JPEG suffixed. But from all I've read, JPG and JPEG are identical/interchangeable
I've been a devout Mac user for over 2 years now and haven't ever encountered a problem with anything that needed to be resolved on this discussion board or even by calling Apple Support. All I can conclude about this is that I'm doing something really, grossly, stupid. But I sure don't know how to proceed. Should I go to an Apple Retail store and have them figure it out?
Appreciate any thoughts you folks may have on this.

2 Possibilities:
The phone is taking non-standard jpegs in some way of other
Or
The phone is broken and the jpegs are corrupted in some way
Why do I blame the phone? Because neither the Mac nor the PC can access the files.
So, back to Samsung for help on that one.
No, no one from Apple reads or responds on here. As the Terms of Use make quite clear, this is a space for Users to seek help from other Users only. It's not a substitute for AppleCare. There are something in the region of 100,000,000 iPhones out there. It's inevitable that some devices will have issues, and some users. So, taken in that scale, the fact that - what - a couple of hundred people have issues mightn't seem so appalling.

• Media Encoder won't import MXF files from Canon XF100

I'm running Media Encoder CC on two laptops: a macbook pro and a macbook air. Both systems are running the most recent version of Media Encoder CC (including updates) but only one will import MXF files from a Canon XF100? The macbook air imports and encodes the files without issue, however the macbook pro won't import the same MXF files and kicks the following error:
The file /Users/.../.../.../AA0106.MXF could not be imported. Could not read from source. Please check the settings and try again.
I could understand if both computers errored but using the same file, one will import and the other will not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just try this and see if it will work for you.
Open iPhoto > Preferences > General and deselect 'Connecting camera opens: iPhoto'.
Change it to 'No Application' and close iPhoto.
Now connect your camera to your computer and turn it on or better still use a card reader.
If iMovie tries to open, close it.
Your camera/card should now appear as an external drive.
Copy/paste your video files into a new folder on your desktop.
Eject and disconnect your camera/card.
Now open iMovie and go File > Import > Movies... and navigate to that folder.

• Importing jpg files from hard drive

I am trying to import all my pictures into iphoto however am getting an error:
Unreadable file, The following file cannot be imported. (import failed).
The files I am importing are *.jpg files from various camera I have owned over 5 years. I have all the photos uploaded into my apple TV as well as being very easily readable through other picture viewers on my Mac. I cant seem to understand why it would not import into iphoto.
Please can somebody help me if you have ever had this issue before.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try copying a few to the desktop and from there into iPhoto. If that is successful then there's something about being on the Apple TV drive that iPhoto doesn't like. If that's the case you may have to copy the photos to the desktop, import into iPhoto and then delete them from the desktop.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

• LR 5.3 won't import .mov files from iphone 5s

I'm running Mavericks and LR 5.3 and have had trouble importing video files from my iphone 5s. All of my software is up to date. It seems that LR is having trouble connecting to the dynamic link server. It doesn't work even when I disable my firewall. I've already purged my video cache in LR. Is there anything else I should try?

There are many, many posts of this nature in these forums. See, for example:
iphoto won’t import mov video
For many, rebuilding the XPC helper cache solves the problem off the bat. In terminal try this, and reboot:
sudo /usr/libexec/xpchelper --rebuild-cache
The above posted by Andy Ball on a thread related to a similar problem with Aperture:
Re: Import video to Aperture library on Mountain Lion
Other things to try:
1. create a fresh iPhoto library and try that. (hold down opt while launching iPhoto)
2. create a new OS X user (in system preferences) and try there.
In my case – and many cases – neither of those things work either, which means the problem is system wide. Again suggesting that the xpc helper solution might work. But for me it did not either.
There are other suggestions that there are conflicts with Perian (on Yosemite) and flip4mac. In my case uninstalling both of those didn't solve it either.
So maybe one of those solutions will work for you, results apparently vary. But this is a huge unresolved issue many others are having as well. I have a case with a senior apple advisor open, still unresolved. His suggestion of course, at this point, is an archive and re-install. I'm not ready to go there yet.
BTW, another thing he had me try was to import the file with Image Capture (which works). Then open it in QuickTime Player X. Then try exporting to 480p. Does QuickTime crash? It does for me.
My summary:
1. Files successfully import with Image Player.
2. Files play with QuickTime Player X.
3. QuickTime Player X crashes when exporting to 480p.
4. Files import with iMove.
5. Files fail to import with iPhoto (unrecognized format as with OP)
6. iPhoto import failure/errors are system wide and not specific to a library or a user.
7. rebuilding xpchelper cache and rebooting in my case does not resolve issue.
8. same videos import fine in iPhoto on a totally different system (laptop running same versions of OS X 10.10 and iPhoto 9.5.1)

• PrE 11 will not import .jpg files from organizer

Hi,
I just upgraded from PS & PrE 8 to the lastest version 11. I'm running on a Windows 7 pc. My catalog was successfully converted and new pictures were added. I now want to create a dvd with both pictures and videos. I tried various ways to import .jpg files in PrE but some (most) of my files will not import. I get error messages about the files not being supported (missing codex) or the files being too large.
After reading on the forums and on Adobe help site. It seems opening and resaving the files in the organizer fix this. I try and it worked. As I have many files to import (200+), I wonder if there is a way to do some sort of a batch process for all file.
Secondly, also I read PrE can automatically resize the image file to the project size. How can this be acheive ?
Thanks for your help

Please see my answer to this question. It's essentially the same answer I'd give you.
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1129183?tstart=0
You can not create a playable DVD or incorporate video and photos in the same project with full resolution photos on it. Video resolution/TV resolution is only 720x480 (standard resolution) or 1920x1080 (high rez).
Premiere Elements has a governor that limits the size of a photo you can add to a video project (which is probably what you're running into). In fact, you'll get much better results if you use LOWER resolution photos in your video project -- 1000x750 pixels for DVDs and standard resolution video and 2000x1500 for BluRays and high-def video.

• Can't import .jpg files from iPhoto Library

What is the meaning of the error message I invariably get when attempting to import a photo file? It goes like this:
"The file could not be imported: The file “Macintosh HD/Users/alex/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2006/20060415 To Aigina with grandad and grandma/DSC04837.JPG” can’t be imported; QuickTime couldn’t parse it: -2048"
Many thanks, people.

One more thing: I went into iPhoto's preferences, in Advanced, and checked the first option (Importing: Copy files to iPhoto Library folder when adding to library). I then added one photo to the library.
Then, from iMovie, I selected that newly added photo and bam! it was in! So, I guess, iMovie can't handle correctly iPhoto Library photos if they have not been copied into the iPhoto Library folder structure, correct? Is that what the expected behavior of iMovie HD should be? or a bug to be addressed in future upgrades?
Many thanks, as always.

• Lightroom 5 won't import RAW files from Nikon D7000

Since the last two updates of Lightroom 5 I cannot import any RAW files from a Nikon D7000. I just get an error every time, even though it shows a preview of the photos on the card.

What error are you seeing when you try to import?

• IPhoto '11 won't import 3gp files, but iPhoto '09 did. Help!

I had iPhoto '09, which imported 3gp video files from my android phone just fine. Then I upgraded to iPhoto '11, and suddenly I can't import them; they're an "unrecognized file format" WTH? Why, Apple, why? Just to add insult to injury, the old 3gp videos that I imported to iPhoto before the upgrade still show up in iPhoto AND play in iPhoto, so clearly they can't be THAT unrecognized. And no, changing the filename extension to m4v does not seem to trick iPhoto '11 into importing.
Is this just fallout from a Google - Apple fight? Any other workarounds? Apple, can you please shed some light on this, since this forum is full of people asking the same question?

Is your version of Perian up-to-date?
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

• LR4 Import won't import all files from a folder

Have just installed Windows LR4 trial, told it to Import files from my photo collection in a folder + subfolders on a network attached storage (NAS) unit. Windows Explorer tells me that there are 10,308 files in 408 folders in the main folder, totalling 38.8gb but on scanning the folder prior to import LR4 tells me that there are only 9,612 photos.
My photo collection folder contains only photos and no other file types.
Why is there this discrepancy ? I've searched around to see whether there is some hidden filter that is excluding certain photo files but cannot find anything of that nature.

Thanks again for this lead. After initially getting nowhere with it it, and after investing a lot of time, it turned out that I was getting nowhere because Windows Explorer wasn't revealing all the files in the Photo folder of my network drive (despite my going through all the settings to Reveal Hidden Files, etc). When, in the search for the "missing" 600+ files that LR didn't find, I trawled the Photo folder with WinDirStat instead of Windows Explorer it revealed 167 files with the suffix .xmp and 369 files with the suffix.db (plus a smaller number of .bmp .jpeg, .pia, etc.). I don't know what the .db files are (possibly debris from previous photo indexing software) but presume that LR doesn't need them.. The .xmp files, I see, are an Adobe format and I don't know (yet; I'm reading the manual) whether LR uses them.
Again, thanks for your help.

• ICal won't import .ics files from Mail

Howdy,
I've been using mail/iCal for some time. I get meeting requests via email from Microsoft Outlook users in the .ics format. I used to be able to just click on the .ics file in mail, or drag it to my calendar, and it would add the meeting. But past few months, when I click on the .ics file, nothing happens. If I drag the .ics file to my calendar, I see a "blank" event with nothing in it on the date of the meeting.
However... if I save the .ics file to my desktop, then go to File -> Import and select that file, it works fine. Just frustrating because it takes a lot of extra steps.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi:
Just started to have the same problem with importing events onto my iBook. Problem has been made worst in that while I get attached ics files from emails coming from my Outlook 2003 application on my desktop computer, emails from work (also using Outlook 2003 on a Microsoft Mail Exchange Network) no longer even include ics file. (Note: Outlook to Outlook meeting invites do work.)
Am wondering if the combination of the most recent updates from Apple for iCal and Mail may be at fault?
Anyone out there have any ideas on this? It was nice being able to indirectly sync my Outlook and iCal calenders, but now it is a pain in the you know where.
Any help will be welcomed. Thanks.
