IPhoto 1.0 to iPhoto 2.0 doesn't update

I'm using iPhoto 2.1 on my other Macs (iBook & iMac) to make Quicktime slideshows files w/ music for iDVD (great) -but, on my G4 running OS 10.1.5: still have iPhoto 1.0. I tried updating it to iPhoto 2.0 unsuccessfully. It almost does it, but I then get an error message. Just says "there's an error... & try again". The iPhoto app was in the Documents folder, so I copied it to the Applications folder. Thought that might help. Then tried to trash the iPhoto app from the Documents folder. Got a message: "Cannot be completed because the item belongs to root".
What to do? I'm not up yet to upgrade to a higher OS for my G4. Can't figure out why I could upgrade to iPhoto 2.0 (then 2.01) on my iBook & iMac & not on my G4. Other than the iBook & iMac boots with OS 10.1.5 (out of the box), and my G4 boots with OS 9.2.2, tho I often restart with OS 10.1.5.
Any help much appreciated... Joan

Since iPhoto 2 pre-dates iLife, it is available as a separate download from Apple's website. But since you already have it on one of your Mac's, why not just copy the application to your second machine's Applications folder?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Everything is inside the Library I can see
Do you mean by looking into the library using the Finder?
but when I run iPhoto I get only a yellow note on the screen and no pictures?
Then iPhoto has probably opened a new, empty library, because it could not find or access your iPhoto library. What happens, whiny double-click the Library to open it directly?
Where is your iPhoto library stored? Is it in the Pictures folder or on an external drive?

same thing with my imovie ! Help :\

iPhoto 8.1.2 is marginally compatible with Mavericks.  Usesr report problems with exporting slideshows, exporting photos outside of iPhoto just to name a couple.  Be sure to turn off all photo sharing in iPhoto's Sharing preference pane and set the Web pane like this:
Otherwise you may frequently get the SWOD (spinning wheel of death) upon launch or at other times.

in the iPhoto preferences ==> accounts delete your e-mail account and reenter it
    OR
IMHO the better solution is to set Apple mail as the email client in the iPhoto preferences

It's generally recommended not to use a USB hub with the iPhone. I've used one with no problems but many have reported solving sync problems just by eliminating the hub and plugging directly into a USB2.0 port.
    I'm sure.
The trouble is that there are too many bits of hardware that are recommended not to use a hub with. I have a PhoneValet (which won't work at all with a hub) and a set of first generation Harman-Kardon speakers (ditto). Then I need a USB port to plug the hub itself into, and that's my three USB ports used up.

    iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Accounts ->
Delete and recreate your email settings.
Alternatively, use Apple's Mail for the job. It has Templates too - and more of them.

I open iphoto and I get the message
"the Photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto"
I click upgrade and after a few seconds the photos show fine, the application works correctly.
then I quit the app. and reopen and i get the same message and the same results.
this was happening before I did a complete erase of the Macbook Pro and install of Mt Lion
    upgraded from lion.
only thing thats the same is the computer and the library I restored.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I have OS 10.4.11 and iTunes 9.2.1 (5). My iPhone 4s does not appear in iTunes. only iPhoto recognize my iPhone. Update of iTunes seems not possible. How can I make appear my iPhone in iTunes?

From the box the iphone came in:
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.5.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 10.5 or later (free download fromwww.itunes.com/download)"
You will need Mac OS 10.5.8 or later in order to get itunes 10.5 or later, in order to connect your iphone.

  • I updated to Yosemite.  iPhoto says I need to update to the latest version.  The app store says the version I need is not available in the US.  Thus iPhoto won't work or even open at this point

I updated to the yosemite system.  My iPhoto says I need to update to the latest version for it to work with yosemite.  The app store searches and then states the version I need is not available in the US.  Currently I cannot use iPhoto.  Suggestions?

    Csound1,
Thanks for the hint about not emptying the trash.  I will try to work on this tonight or tomorrow morning and let you know if "this helped me".
    Russell,
If you go into the iLife support forum for iPhoto, there are a couple good threads.  Basically, iPhoto can't be downloaded by anyone anywhere in the world unless the app store has it listed in your "purchases" list.  The threads contain a lot of steps and it looks like this could be difficult for novices like me.
    Rysz,
I will also look at the link you provided before I get started.  Thanks.

  • I upgraded to iOS x mavericks on my iMac now i cannot access my iPhoto i get this messageThis update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.

I upgraded to iOS x mavericks on my iMac now i cannot access my iPhoto i get this messageThis update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled. I have not changed anything thankyou for any info.

Please test after each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes. Keep in mind that no one here represents Apple or can help with customer-service issues.
    Step 1
A purchased app can only be updated by signing in to the App Store with the same Apple ID that was originally used to buy it. There's no way around that limitation, which also applies to free apps. If you can't sign in with the buyer's ID, delete the app and reinstall it. You'll have to pay for it again, if applicable.
    Step 2
If you get the alert when trying to update a bundled iLife app, elect the Purchases page in the App Store and locate the app in your purchase history. If there's a button marked ACCEPT on the right, click it.
If you have a used Mac, the bundled apps were linked to the original owner's Apple ID and can't be transferred to you. Reportedly, customer service has issued redemption codes to some second owners who asked, but it's not guaranteed.
    Step 3
If you're trying to update iLife or iWork apps that were installed from a purchased DVD, or if you have a refurbished Mac bought directly from Apple, contact App Store customer service for a redemption code. You may be asked for the part number of the DVD.
    Step 4
From the App Store menu bar, select
    Store ▹ View My Account
Enter your Apple ID password at the prompt. At the lower right corner of the window that opens, click the Reset button. Close the window.

my iphoto wont open since i updated my mac, please help? it says i need to install an iphoto library upgrader which I have installed but still cant see my photos.

What version of iPhoto are you using? 9.6 is the current version.
    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
