Iphoto 1.1.1 on Tiger

Hi,
Can I run iphoto 1.1.1 on Tiger. It crashes when I try to import images from my camera. Does this mean I must upgrade to iphoto 5 or 6.

  • Cannot open old iPhoto library after updating from Tiger to Lion

I changed my Mac and now I am using Lion on MacBook Pro.
I am trying to open the iPhoto library that I used to have on my old PowerBook G4 with Tiger, but it does not work.
When I open the library, iPhoto says that the library needs to be updated and asking OK to continue. I press OK to continue and iPhoto starts to work though after hours (I tried to leave the mac to work for three days) nothing happens!
The library is very big, 39 GB!
    Any help?

    NowApple:
    Sounds like a damaged database.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Best way to re set-up iPhoto on Snow Leopard from Tiger

Currently have Tiger OS and iPhoto. My iPhoto Library is on an external HDD. Also I have separate folders on the external HDD containing some .jpegs which should be in iPhoto and all my movies .avi which could be in iPhoto. I am about to upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard.
What I am wondering is how I can consolidate my all my photos/movies into the new (Snow Leopard version) of iPhoto when I install. For example, in the iPhoto Library folder 2006, various .jpeg and .avi files from that year are not there - they are in a seperate folder "2006" (because I moved them using Finder when I was a Mac newbie).
Would it be better to copy all the .jpegs in the iPhoto Library into a single folder, then add all the stray photos from elsewhere in the filing system to that folder, then ask the new iPhoto to import photos from there? Or should I manually copy stray photos (eg. those from 2006) into the relevant iPhoto Library folder prior to the new installation.
Final note. I have around 50,000 photos and on my current system iPhoto is very slow to initially load up - is there a filing configuration which would make the app work more efficiently or does the SL version do that already?
    Thanks.

iPhoto 2 was the last free version. you have to buy the iLife suite to get the latest version of iPhoto. iPhoto does not come with Tiger.

  • Didn't iPhoto come with Tiger?

Isn't iPhoto part of OS-X Tiger? I could have sworn I had it on my Mac when I installed Tiger. I might have deleted it thinking I would never use it as I have been disappointed by past versions. But the more I read about it, I want to try it again. How can I get it back?

    Hi Brian,
No it does not come with tiger. It probably came installed on your new computer. You will need to either buy the iLife package or try to install it from your computer software CD/DVD. check out the links for a solution that pertains to your situation.

  • Tiger and iPhoto

    I've just recently upgraded to tiger (archive and install) and everything seems to be running well, but when i open iPhoto im getting this message in console app;
Jan 30 09:39:05 XXXXXXXX-Computer /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/MacOS/iPhoto: The function CGSReadObjectFromCString is obsolete. Use of this function may cause an overall degradation in the performance of this application, or of the system as a whole.
Jan 30 09:39:05 XXXXXXXX-Computer /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/MacOS/iPhoto: The function CGSCreateDictionary is obsolete and will be removed in a Tiger update. Unfortunately, this app, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance.
isnt this iPhoto that was installed with tiger? doesnt sound good whatever the case is im not sure, anyone else geting this in there conole app when running iPhoto? any help appreciated, thanks

    Hi Gary,
Being a pack rat I still have a copy of iPhoto2 (I have iLife 5, which I bought for GarageBand), so I launched it and got no error reports in Console. So I tried iPhoto1, and Console reported two complaints related to it trying, and failing, to read my current iPhoto5 library. Tried iPhoto2 again, and again no errors.
Your restart screen means your Mac isn't quite sure of what startup disk to use. Go into System Prefs, open the Startup Disk pref pane (it's in the System group of panes near the bottom), and make sure the Tiger folder is selected as the default for startup.

  • Tiger User files to new iMac via enet or backup drive?

I'm completely new to Leopard. My new (refurb) iMac 2.66 from Apple is bundled with SL. All I want from the old Powerbook/Tiger User files are iTunes library files, images folders in Pictures and Docs. No need for needwork settings, will be going to new config./provider. No iMovie or iPhoto libraries needed.
My Tiger Powerbook is backed up on an external USB 2.0 drive.
Can't I just copy from the PB to the new desktop via Ethernet and add to the new OS User folders, and import iTunes library from the new machine for iTunes?
I can re-install Office 2008. Or should I use SL Migration Assistant or back-up software?
Any issues to consider? Feedback or a relevent thread would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

So I can discriminate which of my user files/folders to move with MA?
Yes, there will be some flexibility in what you want to move over.
I only need the noted files. I'll be using a different account on the new machine. I know how to set up a new account in Tiger, delete the old one, etc. I assume it's similar in SL. I just don't want a lot of orphan files from the old config., which is why I thought of just setting up the new machine, and using the back-up software or copying to the desktop.
Actually MA would be best rather than copying to the desktop as it handles the file permissions for. Just copying files over manually can end in headaches permissions-wise. That is why it might be best to allow MA to migrate over all or part of your old user account. Then you could maintain the same username and password and the Mac OS would recognize these files/folders as belong to you and not some other user account.
I have had upwards of 6 different Macs since the release of Mac OS X. And I have migrated over the very same user account from one to the other with each new Mac that I upgraded to without issue.
I'll be wiping the drive and re-installing the OS from the install disc without all the excess fonts, foreign language translators, drivers, demos, etc before I do anything else.
    That works for me.

  • Photos do not appear in iPhoto after upgrade

    Hi,
I have searched around and no one else seems to have encountered this problem. I upgraded my apple to a iMac with Leopard and iPhoto 08, from an old Tiger machine. I moved the iPhoto library into Pictures and then loaded iPhoto. I agreed to allow iPhoto to upgrade my library. I didn't notice at that point whether all the photos were in the library. I have imported 38 pictures from my camera and now, for some reason, these are the only photos in the library.
When I look inside the library package, it has all of my photos in various places, and is almost 5GB in size, so I know the data is there. I have rebuilt the library, using cmd-option-iPhoto, but this has not changed anything.
Does anyone have any idea as to what is happening, and what I might to do rectify the problem?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Do you still have a copy of the old library on the other machine? If so you can try the following;
1 - move your current library to the desktop.
2 - copy the old library into the Pictures folder.
3 - run iRepair on the library as described below.
4 - launch iPhoto and convert the library to the iPhoto 08 format.
If that goes correctly you can then locate those 30 photos in the library on the desktop and import them into the new library. This will let you maintain your keywords, comments, slideshows, etc. from the old library.
    Here's how to run iRepair:
Run iRepair on your iPhoto LIbrary package as follows:
1 - download iRepair and launch.
2 - click on the lock and enter your admin password
3 - click on the Select button and navigate to and select the iPhoto library.
5 - set the owner to your short admin name with read, write and execute privileges.
6 - set group to staff or the current group with read, write and execute privileges
7 - set others to read only
6 - click on the Apply button.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Iphoto 6.0.5 no longer recognizes canon ixus 50

    Hi,
I am unsure whether this is the right forum, but it seemed to be the best match.
I've been using my canon ixus 50 with iphoto 6.0.5 and tiger 10.4.8 with all updates installed on an intel c2d imac with much joy.
One day it just stopped working, however. The camera is recognized in system profiler's usb menu, but iPhoto fails to see it, as does image capture, no matter how many times I turn it on, off, pull the usb cable, etc. It's very frustrating and I have no idea what has caused it. It may have been the latest security update as it definately didn't work after that one, but that may just have been a coincidence.
Any advice? I should mention that the camera still works fine using gphoto2 on my linux x86 machine, so I don't think it's the camera or cabling.
    Sincerely,
    -Kenneth Straarup

    Hi,
I just tried out parallels and winxp to see if that would properly detect the camera (to try and rule out hardware defects). Upon selecting the camera from the usb menu parallels responded that the device was being hogged by another application.
I'm guessing this is the reason iphoto or image capture doesn't detect it as well. Now I just wonder what I could do to find out what application that is...
    Sincerely,
    -Kenneth Straarup

  • Should I upgrade to iPhoto 8?

I am presently using version 5 and it seems adequate. If anyone has the time I would appreciate hearing what the advantages of 8 are.
    Many thanks,
    Richard

    Richard:
The advantages of iPhoto 08 are much better editing tools and much easier to recover from library problems and regain the library's organization. iPhoto 5 has a very convoluted folder system which is neigh on impossible to use in one has to start over with a new library and import the original, full sized image files from the old one. Just go to http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/index.html and check out the tutorials. I'm sure you'll see the many improvements over iPhoto 5.
However, if V5 is doing everything you want the way you want then stay with it. I upgraded primarily for iDVD 7 as I use it a lot and it's so much better than previous versions.

  • IPhoto crashes when opening partially completed book

Using iPhoto 5.0.4 with Tiger 10.4.3 OS on a 1 GHz PowerPC G4 laptop with 768 MB of memory.
I created a book in iPhoto using the Yearbook Theme. I have 266 pictures either in the book or waiting to be placed. At least 230 pictures are on pages. There are 38 pages in use. At this point when I open the book, it opens to the pages selection and I can move off the current page by one or two pages before iPhoto freezes up and then quits. I am unable to view pictures at all. Fixes I have tried are repairing permissions, dpi settings, and cleaning caches from this discussion board.
Any additional help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    PB G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   768 MB Ram

I tried Lori's suggesting about opening each photo in iPhoto. I was able to get through 6 - 10 photos before the program crashed again. After trying to open and view each photo separately and crashing numerous times, I decided to try to make the book on a different machine.
I transfered the iPhoto library to my iMac G5. I was able to work on the project for about a half hour before the crashing began on that computer.
I removed all photos from my iPhoto Library (over 6000) and just imported those I needed for the book. Previously, I had used the Yearbook theme. This time I tried the Picturebook theme. I was working with 290 photos. I filled the standard 20 pages then started adding pages to the book. (My book needs to be 40 pages). At this point I again started to crash in iPhoto.
My images are standard images from digital cameras and scanned images. Scanned images are either 150 dpi or 2400 dpi. Is the size of my larger scanned images the issue? Is there a size limitation on the images in the book? Since I have used two different computers and have gotten the same problem, the common factor seems to be the photos themselves. All of the images I have set aside for the book will open in iPhoto, so I don't believe I have a corrupt photo.
Any other ideas or thoughts you have for me?
Thanks again for any help you can give.

  • Will I lose my photos currently in iphoto

I will soon be upgrading to Tiger and realized that I will need to also upgrade to iLife. Since iPhoto is not part of Tiger, how do I recover the pictures currently stored in iPhoto? Will the current library still be accessible once I install iLife?

    Hi termite,
Are you doing an upgrade, Archive and install, or erase and install?
What version of iPhoto are you running now?
Purchasing iLife is always the best option, as it is easy to reinstall if you ever need to.
Backup your entire iPhoto Library folder to an external or to DVD and it will be safe.
Tell me the steps you are going to do for the installs and I'll tell you more from there.

  • Upgrade photo library

Upgraded to Mavericks and latest iPhoto 9.5.1.  Told Photo Library needs to be upgraded to work with this version and it would take up to 3 hrs.  I hit the Quit button thinking I would be able to do it the next session but I can't.  I don't want to lose my albums.
Can anyone tell me how to do the upgrade having once refused it?

It sounds like you got a new version of iPhoto when you went from Tiger to Snow Leopard. This will need to update the library for the new version. So, update first. You won't be able to do anything with iPhoto until you do.
