Iphoto 1.1.1 unexpectedly quits
After moving, with great difficulty, most of my photos from my old blueberry iBook, I can't launch the iphoto (on the blueberry) to try to retrieve some of the photos not transferred. The "unexpectedly quits" message appears; however, in Users/my name/ string, there are JPG photos that can be opened in preview. If I continue the string: Users/my name/Pictures/iPhoto Library some individually listed jpg photos can also be displayed, as can photos in one folder, but in my iPhoto/Albums/Albums folder, the photos can't be opened because "the original item connot be found."
What I've done so far:
- repaired disk permissions
- deleted iPhoto preference file: com.apple.iPhoto.plist
- have been unable to locate the 3 thumbnail files suggested for removal on the discussion boards.
In addition, the screensaver slideshow of photos had been appearing on the blueberry, but at some point while I was fiddling with this today, it was replaced by a black screen with a message to move images to the pictures folder or select "configure"??
I hope this makes sense & someone can help me.
Elk,
What files, exactly, did you move "with great difficulty"? Normally, there are two easy methods to transfer photos from one Mac to another with iPhoto. One is to make a copy of the entire iPhoto Library folder, and the other is to export to a folder, those images to be transferred. Neither of those methods would have had any impact on the original photo collection. If you did anything else, then it's likely that you have rendered your original iPhoto collection unusable.
Your only option is to create a new iPhoto Library, and manually harvest whatever images are left in the original, and import them into the new library.

IPhoto 6.0.6 unexpectedly quits
I've been using iPhoto for years now. Since yesterday it will unexpectedly quit a few seconds after starting. What I've already done without success:
- deleted the plist file
- backed up my originals, then deleted the library
- rebooted
Thanks in advance!
Marco

Have you recently uninstalled Garage Band?

occurs when GB has been recently moved or trashed. You need to re-install it - just the app, you don't need all the loops.
If you haven't moved or changed GB, try opening it and saving something and then see if iPhoto will launch.
It will also do no harm to make sure your Quicktime is up-to-date - run Software Update.

Hi there,
I use IPhoto to backup photos from my IPhoto,
however, it has a unexpectedly quit issue.
Tried many way to start up IPhoto, even though in safe mode, it's still happen,

Because the orginal libary has all my Iphone photos,
I would like to ask if there anyway to fix this problem?
Thanks for the help!

1. Restore the iPhoto library from the most recent backup that predates the issue.
2. Repair or rebuild the library.
3. Scavenge the library with iPhoto Library Manager independently of iPhoto (Library ▹ Rebuild). Books, calendars, and slideshows won't be preserved. -
IPhoto was open, but "unexpectedly quit". When I opened it again a couple days later, my most recent photo uploads (for the past month or so) were missing, with dated Events folders saying "no photos". This had happened another time about a year ago? What happened, and how do I retrieve my photos? I hadn't backed them up, but do they automatically do so on iCloud?
Assuming you're running iPhoto 9 or later do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database. -
OH CRAP! iPhoto unexpectedly quits.
Hello, my iPhoto application has been unexpectedly quitting on me, everytime I start it up. Last night my sister just accidentaly unplugged the power cord to my iMac, when she hooked up her digital camera to my computer. I then rebooted my Mac and there is when tragedy struck me.
I need a resolution for solving my problem, or I may need to reinstall iPhoto.

20 iMac G4 Super Drive; w/ 4GB black iPod Nano Mac OS X (10.4.3) 768 MB of RAM 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4No you don't need to reinstall iPhoto. First try
deleting the iPhoto preference file,
com.apple.iPhoto, located in your
User/Library/Preferences file. If that gets damaged
it will crash iPhoto upon launch.
I deleted the file, but iPhoto kept unexpectingly quit after I start up that application.

IPhoto won't open! It keeps unexpectedly quitting!!
When I click on iPhoto to open it, the icon starts bouncing, and then three seconds into it, it just stops. "iPhoto has unexpectedly quit" is all it keeps saying. I have tried everything from restarting it, to opening it from the Applications folder. Nothing seems to be working. How do I get back into iPhoto? Help :P
Julia,
I would use the new library and import the images from the old library into the new. there is nothing wrong with the iPhoto.app, so no need to reinstall it.
Follow these steps:
Drag the old library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto with the newly created library.
Go to File/add to library.
In the next window, navigate to the library on the desktop and choose it.
Wait till iPhoto imports all your images.
You will have to redo albums, keywords, slideshows, etc, but you will now have all your images so it is a good thing!
Read page 2 and you will know what to expect and see when the import is done.
iPhoto Help
iPhoto Help 2
I would then backup that new library as soon as you import the images.
After you do your organization with keywords, albums, etc, backup the iPhoto Library again.
Good luck! -
i can't open my iPhoto, it was working very slow and now its not working at all, when i try to open it it shows this message: The application “iPhoto” unexpectedly quit while trying to restore its windows. Do you want to try to restore its windows again?
how can i fix this problem? There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:

After upgrade to iPhoto '11, unexpectedly quits
After upgrade to iPhoto 11 it always reports "inconsistencies"
and unexpectedly quits following attempt to "repair"Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

IPhoto unexpectedly quits when viewing or editing certain photos
I have just returned from three weeks abroad and had hoped this issue would have been handled by Apple in the interim, but the same status message is still on their web site as when I left.
"After updating to QuickTime 7.1.3, iPhoto may unexpectedly quit while attempting to import or edit certain photos."
They offer several workarounds, which don't seem to work, and/or are impractical given the huge numbers of photos that are affected in my library, and/or entail losing all the metadata I have so carefully developed.
We're not talking a library of 200 pix of Aunt Edna at the beach. Much of my 10,000 image library consists of professional and technical work that I must deal with on an almost daily basis. Has anyone else, who has experienced this problem found a solution? This is big!
I have library backups, but am wondering if they are also affected and/or if they will be corrupted once I bring them back to the computer with the new Quicktime version, since I don't understand the mechanism of the problem.
OldToad offers a bit of software that embeds RGB profiles and suggested using it. That didn't seem to be the answer, however.
Help!As an add on to your post I've written an Applescript that will batch embed the sRGB color profile in folders of image files. If the user has a lot of files to process this can shorten the process time a lot. The script, Embed sRGB Colro Profile can be downloaded from Toad's Cellar.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance. -
Help - Unexpected Quits After One Day with iPhoto 6
The transfer of approx 3,000 photos went remarkably smooth an all the album and date data were retained successfully with perhaps a dozen or so exceptions noticed in some images which appeared to be listed with incorrect dates. No big deal.
This morning I thought I'd add an album of favorites and that too went without a hitch.
But, after breakfast and a restart, and now a permission repair and a library rebuild, iPhoto 6 Unexpectedly Quits at launch.
Exception: EXCBADACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000004
PLEASE help!I suggest you try the following:
A - run OnyX and clean out the various user and system caches. You next reboot will be longer and usual but will get back to normal on subsequent restarts.
G - boot into the single user mode and run the File System Check (fsck) as follows:
FSCK - File System Check
To start up in single-user mode
1. Restart the computer.
2. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold both the Command (Apple) and "s" keys on your keyboard. The computer will display a series of text messages, at which time you may release these keys.
When the computer has started up, it will display a command line prompt (#). The computer is now in single-user mode.
How to Run the File System Check from the Command Line
Once you have reached a command line, follow these steps to use fsck:
1. At the prompt, type: fsck -fy (NOTE, there is a space between the k and the “-”)
The fsck utility will go through five "phases" and then return information about the disk's utilization and fragmentation. Once the check is finished, if no issue is found, you should see "** The volume <name of volume> appears to be OK."
If fsck alters, repairs, or fixes anything, it will display the message:
**** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***
IMPORTANT: If this message appears, repeat the "fsck -fy" command until this message no longer appears. It is not unusual for your computer to require several "passes" of fsck, because first-pass repairs may uncover additional errors. Run it until you get two consecutive times with an "OK" result.
3. When fsck reports that no problems were found, type: reboot
4. Press Return.
C - reinstall the 10.4.4 COMBO updater followed by a repair of disk permissions.
I see you have a newer dual G5 so doubt if you're low on free space, 15% or 10G recommended minimum). But if so try to increase it. You can recover some by removing the unneeded language modules with Monolingual. I saved nearly 900MB the first time I clean them out. Just be sure that English is not check as one to remove or very bad things will happen.
I suggested the previous because what you're experiencing does not seem to be universal but more unique to a few and more "environment" related. -

"iPhoto unexpectedly quit while trying to restore its windows"
When I try to open iPhoto, it says "iPhoto unexpectedly quit while trying to restore its windows," then gives me the option of restoring the windows or not. Whatever one I click, iPhoto opens for a second and displays a blank gray screen, then quickly closes and a notification pops up that says "iPhoto closed unexpectedly" and displays the following info. How do I fix this???

As i said above it was a test. It tells us that iPhoto is fine and that the problem is within your main Library.

Iphoto unexpectedly quits upon launch.
I try to open up iphoto and it immediately tells me it has unexpectedly quit. I feel like I have tried everything to get it to work. I am not very great with computers though. Does anyone have any tricks up their sleeve?
ThanksiPhoto Fix:
Step #1
1: Open your Users/Library/Preferences folder (if on Lion you need to use the Go in Finder)
2: Scroll down until you see a file called
com.apple.iPhoto.plist
3: Trash it and reboot, start iPhoto and see if it works, reset your preferences in iPhoto.
Step #2
1: Go to your Users/Pictures/iPhoto Library and right (or hold option) click on it and "show package contents"
2: Inside will be a folder with your originals, copy them out.
3: Move and rename the iPhotoLibrary file outside of the Pictures folder.
4: Reboot and restart iPhoto, check inside the Pictures folder if iPhotoLibrary was created. Does iPhoto work now? Add a few new pictures, run fine? Could be a corrupted picture in your old Originals.
5: Download ClamXav and run a scan on the Original photo's and your whole machine too while your at it.
(it's if there is a picture in there from Windows it could contain a corruption caused by malware)
6: Reimport the originals back into iPhoto slowly and selectivly until a problem appears, it's likely a photo or two in the last small batch you imported.
Step #3
Go to System Preferences > Accounts and create a new user, log into it and try iPhoto, does it still have problems?
If so, then iPhoto needs to be replaced.
A: If your on Snow Leopard
Stick the grey OS X install disk into the machine and reinstall the bundled applications, then Software Update or
Hold c and boot off the grey OS X 10.6 install disk and reinstall OS X 10.6 over the installed version (backup files always before doing anything) this should install OS X and bundled programs (iLfie only comes free on grey OS X disks) and not touch your third party programs or files. Software Update.
B: If your on a later OS X version that is not the same as your grey OS X install disks that came with the machine:
Use a pkg file extractor like Pacifist to copy the iPhoto program, then Software Update.
http://www.charlessoft.com/
C: Install iLife from the iLife install disks
D: If your Mac came with Lion
Install iPhoto from AppStore.
And if your STILL having issues with iPhoto, consider a network issue and perform a

IPhoto unexpectedly quits upon loading
I have iPhoto 5.0.4 yesterday it was working fine and today when i try to open it, it goes to the loading photos page then closes straight away and goes to the "The application iPhoto has unexpectedly quit." window. Any help fixing this would be greatly appreciated.
I had the exact same problem, and I deleted the library. Now I have my files with all of my old pictures, but they aren't listed on the library when I open iPhoto. How do I get all of my pictures back into iPhoto?

Hi folks,
When I try to open I photo it reports and error message and sends a report to apples saying that is has unexpectedly quit.
The Iphoto icone and buttons are still visible at the top of the screen but none of my photos are visible.
Any suggestions as Apple have kindly offered to help if I pay them £139 which I dont really want to as my Imac is only 10 months old!
