IPhoto '11 9.1.5 won't export photos

I just updated to iPhoto '11 9.1.5. It won't export photos as usual, just says "unable to create/(folder name)/(photo name)" Stupid thing. Thanks. Chelaye

I recommend doing all your software updates.
You might be able to do all your updates through the Mac App Store or have to do it in combination with "Software Update..." found under the  menu.

    Trash the HPPHoto Export Plugin
    /Library/Application Support/iPhoto/*/HPPhotoExport
    Remember you have two Libraries:
    HD/Library and
    HD/Users/Your Name/ Library
On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library
    It may be in either.

  • IPhoto won't export photos

I was using iPhoto to edit some RAW photos I took today. Several times iPhoto stopped responding, the color wheel just spun until I did a forced quit. After about the third time of this, while I was exporting the edited photos as jpegs. I got a message.... unable to create/user/"myname"/desktop/folder. Now I can not export photos to any location, not my desktop, not an external drive, nada, nowhere. I installed OS 10.5 Friday night. Things seemed to be working OK 'till now. Any advice?
    Thanks,

This might be a file permissions issue:
    Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:

  • IPhoto won't export photos without restarting iPhoto

i'm running snow leopard and the newest update of iPhoto '09. I can export photos just fine, but if I try and export photos a 2nd time, the progress bar from the previous session is still there and I can't choose my export options (nor can I do anything but "cancel") this happens EVERY time since upgrading to 10.6. So if I export photos and want to export a 2nd batch, I have to restart iPhoto. fail.

I have the same problem. In the new Snow Leopard, not only can I not export any photo from iPhoto to any other directory, but I cannot use iPhotos to Set Desktop. Nor can I drag any photo out of my iPhoto folder to another folder.
I also cannot use the Preferences Desktop/Screen Saver feature to load an iPhoto into the Desktop. The iPhotos photos display, but they will not appear in in the little preview window. Only a large question-mark appears. The program allows me to use the Apple-supplied photos, but not the ones in iPhoto. If I attempt to load an iPhoto photo into the box, it deselects the current photo and reverts to the picture of the aurora.

  • Recently, iPhoto will no longer allow my to export photos onto my folders on my desktop. It just says that it is unable to create file. Not sure why this is happening?

iPhoto is no longer allowing me to export & resize photos into a file on my desktop. It just states that it is Unable to create file on desktop. I'm not sure what this means on how to correct this issue. Any support would be greatly appreciated!

    Then do the following:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
If Fix #1 fails to help continue with:
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download IPhoto Library Manager 4 for OS XC 10.6.8 and iPhoto  8.1.2 and later  or iPhoto Library Manager 3 (for OS X 10.5.8 and iPhoto 7.1.5 and earlier) and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu (iPLM 3) or Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu (iPLM 4) option.
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Won't export photos

When I try to export photos from iPhoto to my desktop I get the message "unable to create/users/name/desktop" no matter what settings I use in the export window. My intent is not to create a backup but rather to create copies that use the photo's title in iPhoto as the filename instead of the camera's filename that is in the embedded photo info.
    What is blocking the export?

Well that's why you can't export - iPhoto cannot find the particular file.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphoto 11 9.4.2 won't export slideshow

This is what I get when I try to export a slideshow.
    I have a Mac Book Pro 13 running 10.8.2
I have exported several slide shows before with my old white Mac Book.
I tried exporting slideshows with only 2 pictures, and still no luck.
Any ideas? thank you for your help in advance.

    Hello,
OT, so I tried to log in with a different account, and when I tried to import pictures to iphoto, I kept getting an error about a problem with the Flip4Mac plugin. I removed the Flip4Mac plugin and now I can export slideshows again. Kind of weird but it works, so now when I need Flip4Mac I just install it and uninstall it as needed.
Thanks for your patience and all the ideas OT, and Jose Luis, if you have Flip4Mac this might solve your problem, or it might be some other external plugin! Good Luck and thanks!

  • Program won't export photos to desktop......

This is more than annoying. I really liked iPhoto 06 better, as I could simply drag & drop from an actual folder on the hard drive to anywhere else on the computer. Now this version changed everything & basic functions are gone. The program is telling me it is unable to create /users/username/desktop/ This is unacceptable, as iPhoto 06 had no trouble doing this at all (not to mention that it won't let me drag & drop anymore). Is there anyone who knows what might be causing this?? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do you have a v6 library?
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.

  • Help! iPhoto keeps crashing when I try to export photos

I'm working on a MacBook Pro (about 3 years old), and recently updated to Mountain Lion and iPhoto 9.  Aside from opening iPhoto9 to confirm that my photo library was there, I didn't "use" the software until this morning.
I uploaded photos from my camera (via USB cable), edited them, dropped them into an album, then clicked "Export" with the intent of exporting them to my Shutterfly account.  However, iPhoto abruptly closed and I got the following error message:
"iPhoto quit unexpectedly while using the HPPhotoExport plug-in."
I re-opened iPhoto to find that the photos I had uploaded did not show up in the album I had created, or my library, or under "events", and I'm not sure where else they could be.  I reconnected my camera to re-upload the photos, and iPhoto recognized the photos I had previously uploaded as having been uploaded already.  I selected them to upload them again.  Edited them again.  Dropped them back into the same album.  Tried to export again and got the same result.
Any ideas on what the issue might be???  Thanks!!

  • IPhoto upgraded Library but now won't recognize photos (they're still there but in "Old" folders)

After I started up iPhoto this week, it gave me the "your library needs to be upgraded" message.  I let it do that, then it said it needed to update thumbnails and I let it do that.  Then it opened my library but there are no photos - I get the standard startup message as if this was my first time opening iPhoto.
My library file still shows a size of almost 300GB, and I can go through the package contents to find my photos, but they won't show up in the application.  After the upgrade, they're now listed in folders named "Old Masters", "Old Thumbnails", etc., and there are replacement folders in their place (named the same but without the "Old" in the title).  These new folders are empty.
It seems like I should just be able to delete "old" from the original folders' names and let them take the place of the new versions, but I don't want to do anything that will cause even more problems!  Any thoughts?
FYI: I'm on a new late 2014 Mac Mini (3 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16 GB memory) running Yosemite 10.10.2.  My iPhoto library is stored on an external hard drive which is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) - it's the same drive I've used for a long time.
    Thanks for your help!

This has been affecting some folks for the past while. Having the Library on an external seems to be part of the issue.
Have a read of this thread
Yosemite, iPhoto 9.6 upgrade, large photo library is not recognised.
there's a post by Zaxe on the second page that has a fix. Worth a try.

  • IPhoto (old-- version 8?) won't import photos from iPhone 5. Very buggy.

I have an old version of iPhoto that is very buggy (we have an 06 iMac, to be replaced next month). Admittedly, when I've been prompted to rebuild the cache, I don't (what does that do, anyway?). Lately, my problems have been: 1) Certain photos from my iPhone 5 continually re-import even though I check "Don't import duplicates." 2) Most concerning, photos from the past three months on my iPhone won't import to iPhoto. I get an ominous error message after iPhoto takes about an hour to go through the import process. On occassion, random photos (1 or 2) will import. Sometimes an image from a video (but not the actual video). My photos are trapped on my phone, currently not backed up. I have 1000+ photos on my iPhone, as I am sentimental and paranoid and don't want to delete them. Also--our photos are on an external hard drive. We also use TimeMachine and back up on a remote server through a service. I could live with losing everything on my Mac...but not my photos. The over 10K photos are painstackingly organized by folder and albums. Help me!!!

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

...then it has to restore my library, what is going on and how do I fix it?

First go to the iPhoto/Accounts preference pane and delete your Facebook account.  Then add it back and try again.
If that doesn't work you'll have to use the workaround of exporting to the Desktop and uploading to FB with your browser.

It is the drag and drop feature I need fixed the most...when I do try to move it to a folder(in finder), or desktop, or anywhere, a white circle with a cross appears. Any suggestions?
Used to work just fine. Haven't updated or changed anything...

Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?
