Iphoto 11  9.3.2 installed + Nikon D200

I have iphoto 11  9.3.2 installed. When I connect my Nikon D200 iPhoto fails to recognise the camera is connected although the camera shows activity to PC. Any bright ideas ?

Can you access the camera with Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) ?

  • Opening RAW files with iPhoto 06- Nikon D200

Is there any way to open RAW files with iPhoto 06 ? I have a Nikon D200.

I'm puzzled - I cannot even open them in preview - it flashes and then says its unsupported. DOes it matterwhat type of RAW you choose?
I open them fine in Photoshop Elements, would rather load them up in iPhoto for storage though.

  • Nikon D200 and NEF in iPhoto

I have a Nikon D200 which I recently upgraded from a D100. iPhoto imported the Raw NEF files from the D100 no probs. It refuses to import the D200 NEF files for some reason, giving error messages when I try.
Could the NEF files be different on the D200. Will I need to wait for a iPhoto update to cure this or is there something wrong?

    Hi folks,
I too just got a D200. iPhoto does recognize the camera when I plug it in but it only imports the jpg's
I just installed Photoshop Elements 4.0 and it has a terrific RAW Plugin that takes the files in perfectly. I did try the Beta Lightroom and it was a big monster on my PowerBook G4 TT 1G. I don't see using RAW NEF files as-is anyway so I will always bring them into PS Elements for editing anyway. If you use the power of the settings on the D200 you won't have to do much editing anyway; esp. if you are more of a point-n-shoot photographer - the D200's so **** good you don't really need to shoot in RAW. If you do a lot of "darkroom" work then you cannot beat a D200 raw file.
Personally, I cannot see investing in Aperture just yet. I recommend PS Elements as an inexpensive bridge. Speaking of Bridge - PS Elements has an application called Bridge that is sort of a file manager; its useful in that it gives you info on the pictures as you browse but not as comprehensive as the iPhoto library.
I hope Apple supports our D200 Raw files soon, if for nothing else as the great catalog it is.

  • Photos from Nikon D200 camera are white  after Leopard install

Backed up entire hard drive and did an upgrade install of Leopard. Photos from iphone and point and shoots are all fine but the shots I need from my Nikon D200 are dysfunctional, both on my G5's hard drive and my external hard drive.
As I am scrolling through my iphoto library, I see the photos from my D200 for a second, then they all change to a white square/rectangle. I checked info on these squares and the info is intact. I double clicked some of the white squares to bring them into the iphoto work space and while they would not open, the thumbnails of all the photos showed up in the viewing area above the work space. I tried to drag some of the thumbnails into Photoshop as I normally would to work on them and I get a white circle with a slash through it and the photo does not open in Photoshop.
I downloaded the free version of iplm and could not find a repair photo feature so I tried "rebuild library". No change and the app told me that over 2,000 photos were unable to be rebuilt and to check utilities/console to learn which ones. I did and saw nothing about photos.
I am working on the option/command open iphoto solution right now but I am a graphic designer with a deadline in less than 24 hours which requires one of the "lost" pix. I have two other deadlines in the same time frame and I am freaked. Anyone with any hope, please help.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Select one of the blank squares in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File' (or 'Show Original File' if it's availabe.) A Finder window will open. It should have the file selected. Does it?
I tried to drag some of the thumbnails into Photoshop as I normally would to work on them and I get a white circle with a slash through it and the photo does not open in Photoshop.
    Two things
    Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/toad.hall/.Pictures/Forum/BatChmod.png
(Credit to Old Toad for this one).
    also:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • Nikon D200 and iPhoto

    Earlier, I asked the question,
I'm considering upgrading to a Nikon D200. Can I download images in RAW/NEF and JPEG from Nikon D200 into iPhoto 5.0 on my old PowerBook G4?
One person answered the question and then the thread was archived for some reason. I was hoping to get more discussion on this topic. For example, I'd like to ask the person who responded if the camera and the software work well together and if this is the primary software he uses for his or her digital photos.

I am just trying to start a topic???
I have a Nikon D200 and iPhoto 08 with the newest download. It had camera compatibility updates, I think that is where my problem is. All of my Nikon RAW (NEF) files have the wrong White Balance temperatures in iPhoto. They were good before this download. How do I roll the update back, and how do I report it to Apple as a bug???

  • Nikon D200 vs Nikon D100 crashes iPhoto

Does anyone have any idea why iPhoto would crash when saving Photoshop edited photos downloaded from my brand new Nikon D200. It doesn't happen with any of the photos in iPhoto that were downloaded with my Nikon D100. I made sure all available Apple updates were done. Photos are a little larger, but no major or noticeable differences.

    Amy:
Have the files from the D100 been edited with PS? It may be that those that are crashing iPhoto do not have a color profile embedded. Is your Photoshop is not setup to manage color.
What system and Quicktime version are you running. If you're running Tiger less than 10.4.8 update to 10.4.8 with the COMBO updater and make sure you're running Quicktime 7.1.5 (the latest updater).
If that doesn't fix the problem download the Embed sRGB Profile application from Toad's Cellar. Then drop the problem files onto the application and try importing them again into iPhoto.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

I'm considering upgrading to a Nikon D200. Can I download images in RAW/NEF and JPEG from Nikon D200 into iPhoto 5.0 on my old PowerBook G4?

  • Nikon d200 and RAW files look weird

I just got a mac mini today with the latest iphoto and os x 10.4.7 with iphoto 6.0.4 (305). I got this computer specifically for this camera and my photography because I was having so much trouble with windows and people told me that mac is better.
The Nikon D200 RAW(NEF) files load fine, but after a few seconds they become strange looking and I cannot understand why this is happening. I don't have to do anything other than open the file for this too happen. It comes in, looks normal for a seconds, and then, POOF it looks all strange.
Someone PLEASE help me I am desperate!!!

Can you be more specific. Are the colors incorrect or are there artifacts on the photo. What exactly is wrong with the images?

  • Nikon D200 Raw Support

    Hi there,
I purchased Aperture immediately it came out in December 2005 at the same time I got my new Nikon D200. Now some 3 months later I still cannot use Aperture for my Raw files from the D200.
Does anyone else have this same problem and/or does anyone have any info as to when this anomaly may be corrected. I have contacted Apple some time ago by telephone but as yet no response. The guy I spoke with said he would pass on my query.
Thanks for any help you may be able to provide as I am very frustated with lack of info in this regard.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

While routing through iPhoto 6's package structure, looking for names of months and days on calendars to translate into Irish Gaelic, I came upon something interesting. There are strings embedded in iPhoto 6 that match most available raw formats--even ones that aren't supported at all by OS X (such as Pentax's PEF files).
Hopefully 10.4.6 and/or further evolutions of OS X 10.4 will introduce more raw formats.

  • Windows PS ver 8 & Nikon D200

I'm a real newb here so please have mercy.
I'm trying to read a NEF (RAW) file from a Nikon D200 in Photoshop with no luck. Photoshop about tells me I've got Photoshop CS version 8.0. Is this a really old, if so can/should I update? I have messed around trying to install Camera Raw 4.2 (no luck), 3.7 (no luck).
    Thanks,
    TAC

Don thanks for the info. I was messing around last night and since I also have Elements 6.0 it looks like I can read a RAW file with that and do some editing. If I need to do something in PS CS I could write the image as a PS file and open it with CS.
I'll also check out the dng converter.
So you think a neophyte like me could appreciate CS3? If it were $50 I'd upgrade just on your and Dirk's comments, but $200. That's a bit above my pain threshold. lol
    Thanks,

  • Nikon D200 tethered Windows support

I've seen a few requests on this forum for tethered support of the Nikon D200 in Lightroom for Windows. Will it ever happen or is the demand to low? I can use freeware programs with tethered support in Windows, so I know it's possible. Unfortunately those programs don't even come close to Lightroom. Any feedback or timetable?

I have read that Camera Control Pro 2 works with LR3, but I do not have that version, so I can not confirm it if works. Version 2 was a significant cost to upgrade and from what I understand was mostly about the addition camera support and things like Live View support.
The original Nikon Camera Control Pro cost less, was available for a long time in parrallel as and alternative choice to CCP V.2 and was one way to get LR2 to work tethered. However, even with CCP and LR2 it was a bit of an awkward hack with a number of moving parts, but it does work.
I have the trial version of LR3 on a separate machine and I tried to install Camera Control Pro onto that machine (after LR3 had been installed) and the CCP install complains about another version on the machine which needs to be uninstalled first... my guess is that LR3 install some Nikon dll that CCP doesn't like (probably newer). I have never installed CCP onto the current build of this machine so that is why I am guessing it it LR3 that it is sensing. So now what worked for me with LR2 does not seem to work with LR3.
Unfortunately since LR3 doesn't support my D200 under Windows, I have not been able to try the native LR3 tethering support... but my guess would be that the native support would be much cleaner and therefore a preferable method over the CCP + LR approach, and definetely superior to no tethering in LR3 using the D200 on Windows at all.
Camera Control Pro is just and expensive way to interface your camera to the computer via USB and software.  This is why the idea of LR3 having native support was so appealing. Upgrading to CCP V.2 just to use LR3 is not at all appealing.
I have just started to experiment with LR3 Trial and although I am starting to find some nice improvements, I find the lack of tethering options using my D200 and LR3 rather frustrating. Adobe seemed to think tethering was important enough to add to LR3 (which I would agree) but I don't understand why they felt that support for the Nikon D200 on Windows was not important. I don't have any numbers available to me, but I would expect that there are a lot of D200's out there. The model is obviously aging a bit now, but being a pro model of camera I would bet that even those photographers who have upgraded that many of them probably still use there D200 as a secondary or back up camera. Many of them will be very pissed if they find themselves in a situation where they have been working tethered with their newer Nikon and suddenly when they go to use their D200 as a back up only to discover that LR3 doesn't work with their pro Nikon backup camera in tethered mode.
So even if it was just an oversight or a bad judment call on Adobe's part to not support D200 in the LR3 beta, or the release version of LR3 for Windows, or the first minor version update to LR3.2, I really hope that they have plans to add support in the next minor release
    for the D200 under windows.
I know my first reaction when I saw that support was missing in the beta was that oh well, that sucks but I expect that by the time they release LR3 they will ad full support for the rest of the Nikon line, so I will wait and check out LR3 later. Well it is later now and support is still not there. So it will be interesting to see how many D200 owners who might not have said anything during the beta, speak up now. I wonder how many it will take before Adobe thinks it is a high enough priority item to address.

  • Nikon D200 connectivity to Ipod 5th Gen.

As some other people reported here, I had also to remove new update from my 60Gb video Ipod.
Now I'm looking to connect a Nikon D200 to Ipod and on the Apple store webpage they stated that Ipod Camera Connector works with version 1.1 (I had to remove it because video freezes). So my question is did anybody managed to download pictures with old firmware version (I think one from October 2005) using Nikon cameras (D70,D100,D2)?
Thanks in advance for your response,
    Cheers

You can successfully restore a 5G iPod from an iCloud backup made on a 4G iPod. When you do it the version of apps will be installed on the iPod.
However, you can't go the other way, restore a a 4G iPod made with an 5G iPod with iOS 7. since the iOS version of the backed up iPod has to be less than or equal to the iOS version of the one being restored.

Thanks tb

Yes you can store images on an external hard dive and have them referenced in Organizer. It’s best to export copies to separate folders/subfolders and that will ensure iPhoto does not get corrupted.
Alternatively you could continue to use iPhoto with the Elements Editor set up in the iPhoto prefs as your external editing app. Then there is no need to use Organizer and no need to duplicate your images.
You can then call up photos directly from iPhoto as normal with the additional option e.g.
Double-click on a thumbnail to edit in iPhoto editor.
Control (right) - click on a thumbnail to edit in the elements app.

  • Photoshop CS2 and Nikon D200

Does anyone know when Adobe will make Photoshop CS2 compatible with the new Nikon D200? Attempting to get an answer or assistance from Adobe customer service is impossible. Photoshop CS2 CANNOT (will NOT) open Nikon D200 images. I merely get "Could not complete your request because of a program error" message when attempting to open D200 images within Photoshop CS2.

There is a lot of information on this in the Camera Raw forum on this Adobe users site.
The upshot is that they will have it "soon" and the manufacturers do not publish a date.
