Iphoto 11 albums slow to load in ATV2?

I'm having a problem with albums loading very s-l-o-w-l-y on ATV2. The actual directory of albums loads very quickly but when an album is accessed for a slideshow it takes forever to load and start. I have about 300 gigs of photos on a firewire drive. Wondering if there is something wrong with the library or it's size.; I created a small test library of 30 odd photos. This loads in a couple of seconds. My dilema is this: Is the size of the library the problem or is something wrong with the library (corrupt). I have tried rebuilding the library several times and all I get for my troubles is about 100 mangled thumbnails. Doing a repair on the thumbnails does notwork but if you export the pictures in question delete them from iphoto then reimport them they are OK. I would have posted this in the ATV2 forum but u-tube and movies are unaffected so it seems to be an iphoto problem.
Does anyone have any thoughts or a solution for this?
Thanks in advance for your help
Dave

Figured it out after reading several other posts. When selecting albums to view in itunes they cannot be over a total of 8 gigs or they won't load. It will just hang. It would be nice if apple had NOTED THIS in the very scanty documentation they are in a habit of supplying with their products.

  • IPhoto is very slow in loading pictures

We have a brand new 13" macbook air which if fully optioned out.  We use a 1TB external drive for the iphoto library.  There is about 400 GB of data on it, including photos and videos.  My wife is saying it takes an hour to download 45 pictures from her phone to the iphoto library.  What is going on?  Should we have multiple small photo libraries rather than 1 big library?  Thanks for any help.

what format is the external drive? How is it connected to your mac?

  • How do I get iPhoto on new iPad to load all Facebook albums to select where to upload?

How do I get iPhoto on new iPad to load all Facebook albums to select where to upload?
Besides 'new album' , 'wall photos', or 'iPhoto Uploads' ... it only shows 24 pre-existing albums to choose. I need to see the other 50, 60, etc albums I have.
I've also noticed that iPhoto fails to load to certain albums with some 'Domin Exception' error of some kind (not sure the exact message).

You need to make the new Mac iTunes library your syncing library. iTunes on the Mac sees your iPad as a new device because you have never synced with this computer before. You can make the Mac your syncing computer by following the instructions in this user tip. You will be able to transfer the purchased music on the iPad into iTunes when you follow this procedure.

  • IPhoto '09 Slow to load - Coredata Fault Issue?

Every time I open up iPhoto as of late it's really slow to load. At least a good minute. I've only got 7GBs of photos (about 5000 photos). I don't seem to have any issues that would require a rebuild so I'm not sure what's up. I checked Console and below is the fault I'm getting. Any thoughts out there?
5/27/11 6:34:31 AM iPhoto[896] Exception writing metadata: CoreData could not fulfill a fault for '0x1b81ced0 <x-coredata://D008F319-958D-4A27-B17B-A1DD30FE62CC/ABCDEmailAddress/p2952>'

    Honestly I don't know.
Speed issues are tricky. You have 2 gigs of RAM and that's not a lot - especially if you have other apps running, so that might be part of it.
Low disk space can have a big impact on performance, but that's not an issue here.
A corrupted library or bunged up cache file can cause problems, but I would expect that a new Library would open snappily.
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • IPhoto 2 Album trouble

    Hi - third time's a charm
I've already posted this question twice, but apart from 1 response from a user with similar problems have had no real help , plus there have been new developments...
    This is what's wrong:
iPhoto 2.0 has lost its albums - i.e. the library is complete, all images are there. The Albums folder shows all previously created albums & thumbnails.
Though slow (>5000 pics), iPhoto works fine except for not showing the albums.
    What I've done so far
    - repaired Disk Permisions
    - renewed "com.apple.iPhoto.plist"
    - copied iPhoto library and re-installed all Albums folder Album information after iPhoto started showing me the SWOD today (detected no corrupt Album information, but after copying everything except "pending rotation", "Photo library" and "last Import" iPhoto started just fine)
    - down loaded and re-installed iPhoto 2.0
After the SWOD episode the latest Albums were also gone...
It's quite frustrating to see the Information in Finder but not in the Application

    Hi Peter -
Read Old Toads advice and tried it last week before posting the first message.
At that point iPhoto was not loading the library at all "SWOD". Although none of the album files showed signs of corruption, iPhoto started fine afterwards (?!?), but the newer Albums had gone to nirvana just like the old ones. Let me list what has happened so far in chronological order.
    - feb.2005
installed new HD (200GB and card) - carbon copy cloned old disk to new disk, de-installed old disk and put it away. everything worked just as before.
    - june 2005
iPhoto started without the albums (about 20) but finder still showed the complete album file structure with all the thumbnails.
    - asked for help in discussions (2x)
renewed the preferences and repaired the ownerships as suggested - no change. Avoided adding new albums so as not to add any new changes to the system.
    - getting nowhere fast
Wife started making new albums which worked just fine.
    - aug. 2005
iPhoto would not load the iPhoto library (SWOD)
    - checked out the discussions and ended up with Old Toads help. Did everything he suggested in the thread you referred to and was able to start up iPhoto just fine - but new albums were not vi sable (although still there in finder, just like the old ones)
    - re installed 2.0 to be on the safe side
    no change - new post
And I guess that gets us here. If it were a matter of patching the preferences, I would even try that, but since I do not know what the cause of the disapperences is, I do not wish to go to the trouble of working out the semantics.
If I were working with a windows program, I would just shrug my shoulders and say kismet, but I've become used to the I-apps working like a charm, so its kind of annoying...
    Thank you for help again,
    Jacques

  • Synced photos are very slow to load

    Hello,
I am having a very annoying problem with photos synced to my iPad 4g.
I sync my whole iPhoto library (more or less 6000 photos) to the iPad via iTunes. I have the latest iPhoto running on lion 10.7.3 and latest iTunes.
When I open the photos app on the iPad All events albums and faces load fine, but, as soon as I try to open a photo it opens it immediately at a very low res and it can take up to 1 minute to get to the high res version. This does not happen with photos originally taken with the iphone4, only with those taken with canon eos. Also, some camera roll photos (donwloaded from the internet, not taken with the internal camera) are affected. Even if I do a sideshow I notice the same lag between the low res and the high res (to the point that at times it changes to the following photo without switching to the high res version of the previous).
I tried to delete all photos from the ipad and re-sync and also re-syncing AFTER deleting the iPod photo cache in the iPhoto library. No change.
This used to happen also when I synced the same library with the iphone4 and not when syncing to an ipad2.
Has this happened to other people? I can't find anything on google. Any clue on how to fix this?
    Thanks!

  • Iphoto and CS4 SLOW

I use Iphoto to organize my pics, and Photoshop to edit them. From iPhoto, clicking edit, can open photoshop fine and I can edit pics. But going backwards....
If I'm in Photoshop and click Photos under media, the event blocks come up -- great, fast and responsive. No click an event.....SLLOOOWWW. Pics (Thumbnails) are slow, and scrolling past the pic files are painfully slow -- they load blurry, and take a lot of time sharpening. They act as if they're on a different (Networked Drive), but they're on the main HDD (750GB). It kills to try to edit any pic files because its so hard to see (Small thumbnails) and navigate (slow response) folders.
    Any ideas or solutions?

Well LarryHN, its just that these programs and hardware are expensive its disappointing that they don't work well. I can edit any photo in iPhoto well and re-save it to the library, or re-save it somewhere else. However, when im working on a project, and need a pic of a person it it -- i often go to my photo library for more content. So i want to browse my library within photoshop as i'm working on another graphic art pic. I can do this, but its so slow, i'd probably give up before I found the pic i want.
I COULD save my pic in photoshop, an then open iphoto, find a pic, hit edit, which will open up photoshop again, and then re-open my old art file, then i have the 2 pics together, but that's more a workaround more than a solution.

  • My iPhoto is running slower and slower.

FYI: I have the fat version of the new 13in MacBook Pro. EVERYTHING is updated. My iPhoto has 600 photos total (9.4.2)
I remember when I first used iPhoto in August. It was VERY fast in every way. Now it operates slower than normal. When I open iPhoto, it opens slower. Editing/zooming in&out on big photos take slightly more time to operate.
So, what do you think? Is iPhoto normally like this or is it because I have added 600 photos in the past months?

That's not a solution but a test.  How much free space do you have on the hard drive?  If it's less than 10 GB that may be part of the problem.
However, based on the test give this a try:  Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
Note:  if you're still running 10.8.1 update your system to the latest version, 10.8.2.

  • IPhoto running really slow - alt cmd doesn't work, restart neither, library has about 2000 photos

I already tried all options when starting iphoto with alt and cmd pressed - doesn't work
    I restarted my mac - doesn't work
I clicked "repair" and "verify" disk in "disk utilities" - doesn't work
My iphoto library has about 2000 pictures, I have a macbook air 11' and the latest version of iphoto. The problem first came up when i imported pictures directly to iphoto from my digicam - iphoto kept on shutting down unexpectedly. Alt+cmd worked then, I rebuilt the library. Since then iphoto is running slow. I cannot even scroll down or up without waiting and getting a beachball.
Please help me - I have no idea what to do!
    Thank you very much!

  • ITunes 9 painfully slow to load

With all the new graphics & album art that loads & animation that has to load iTunes load so painfully slow & don't let Time Machine run at the same time! Is there anything I can do to either turn off all the additional art work that loads or can I downgrade back to the previous iTUnes?
Or is there something in Utilities maybe I can do?

I'll add my experience to this. It takes sometimes as long as 15 minutes to load my library, during which iTunes is "Not Responding," and churns my hard drive so that my entire system is nearly unusable. My system still has sufficient memory, so it is not paging.
Shutting down in the same experience. I just timed it at 10 minutes, with the same hard drive churn and nearly unresponsive system. The RAM usage goes as high as 1GB of ram, and in Activity Monitor, it is writing for minutes at ~20MB/s. I thought that my library was somehow corrupted, but this seems to be a common experience?
Why didn't Steve Jobs demo this great new feature?

  • Web pages slow to load with IE11 and the cursor/mouse is very slow to work until after page loads

Web pages are very slow to load, I hve run Norton Eraser and found no issues that would cause this

New HP Pavilion three weeks ago.  After several attempts by the 'experts' I finally got a straight answer from a tech in the Philipines yesterday, 01-29-2015.  HP and Microsoft are working to resolve the issue of slow pages and a dead cursor until the next page finally loads.  You may have discovered that Google Chrome DOES NOT have this issue.  Comments about HP would not be allowed here so I will just say, use Chrome until the issue with IE 11 is resolved.

  • Firefox 4.0 keeps locking up and is slow to load pages

I just installed 4.0 this morning. Ever since, Hotmail is extremely slow to load, it keeps locking up or not responding.
I thought this was supposed to be faster and more streamlined?
Now, when I try to go back and install 3.6.13 it is no longer available. What gives? I want my old Firefox back.

  • Since upgrading to ios8, pages very slow to load, and can no longer read items in my reading list when offline. ?????

SI since upgrading to ios8, Safari pages are very slow to load, Kindle crashes upon opening, and I can no longer read saved artices from my reading list when offline. Big disappointment. Is it possible to downgrade to previous ios?

I actually managed to fix it! But unfortunately I don't know what I was that I did that helped.
Anyways, this is kind of what I did.
    1. I tried to reset form bakup via iTunes, no change.
    2. I tried to reset as a new iPhone, problem still there and reading list also as bookmarks!? (several hundred)
    3. Noticed that I could delete a bookmark, once in a while, the other times I got the 'Bookmarks are being synced. Please edit the bookmarks once syncing has completed.' message.
    4. Because I figured that it was a memory problem, I thought it made sense to delete as many as possible, witch I did.
    5. Noticed that it was more likely that I coould delete a bookmark if I restarted Safari.
    6. Notice that it was even more likely that I could delete a bookmark if I turned the Safari sync with iCould off (with option detete information on iPhone) and then back on again.
    7. When I was about half way through deleting the bookmark list I suddenly discovered that all but one of the items in my reading list was 'waiting' and one was downloading. I kind of was 'unstuck' now.
    8. I started to delete items in my reading list, but every other time I got the 'Bookmarks are being synced. Please edit the bookmarks once syncing has completed.' message.
    9. It took a while to delete all bookmarks and items in the reading list.
Hope you guys could use the info here to fix your problems too!

  • Mac seems slow to load  web pages and email since mavericks upgrade

Since upgrade from Mountain Lion to Mavericks on my iMac, web pages seem a lot slower to load on screen. Also, when I open my mail inbox, the mail content (wording) takes a long time before appearing on the right hand side, then followed a little later with the display content. I have synchronised all my mail accounts and also emptied my cache in the safari browser, but this has not resolved the problem.

Go to Applications (you can do this by clicking on the desktop and hitting cmd-shift-A). Within the Utilities folder you should see a program called Terminal. Launch this program, which should just be a window that you can type into. Type the following (or just copy and paste into the window) and hit return:
         networksetup -setv6off Wi-fi
Then go back to Network Preferences and verify that IPv6 is set to off. If that doesn't help, enter these two commands in succession:
         cd /Library/Preferences/
         sudo mv com.apple.security-common.plist ~/Desktop/
Note that this moves a configuration file onto your desktop. If that doesn't fix things you may want to put it back:
         cd /Library/Preferences/
         sudo mv ~/Desktop/com.apple.security-common.plist .
    Good luck!
