Iphoto '11, bento 3 and help, oh my
Situation: Dire, 1.5 year's worth of work at stake and my last marble of sanity
Current: just had Apple folks transfer existing data from Macbook Pro (Leopard) to new Macbook Pro, so far so good.
Problem: When I went into my Bento 3 files, I noticed that my varoius project's photos were transferred, but the corresponding data, created via the respective Bento template, has gone missing in action for one particular project (of course, the one that was the most labor intensive). The template is in tact, but no data. (Earlier, the photos were m.i.a., but they've somehow "crossed over" to the light!")
Suggestions, o wise ones? I'm now checking out my Time Machine and external hard drive, with hopes of success.
When you add photos to Bento does it copy them or just reference their location on the hard drive? If it's the latter then moving the files to a new computer broke the link to the photos. Did you name the hard drive and your user directory exactly the same as on the old MBP?
Did you add the photos to Bento from iPhoto? If so do the photos show in the library on the new MBP?
If this is not what you did then we'll need better description of what and how.

Can anyone help me. I have iPhoto 9.2 and Mac OS X 10.7.2.
Every time I open iPhoto 9.2 and try to go to photo stream iPhoto quits unexpectedly. When I reopen I get "iPhoto has detected inconsistencies in your library. Please click Repair to avoid any potential problems."
I have read plenty of the posts on the subject and it seems that deleting the "3ivx" fixed the problem. I looked at the detaied reports and see where it says "
Library/Application Support/3ivx" etc..
On my report it says "/Library/Application Support/iLifeMediaBrowser/*/iLMBiPhoto8Plugin". Does this help with an answer?I am also having this crashing problem. I am running lion on a 2010 mac mini. My iPhoto library is kept on an external drive. I just upgraded to iPhoto 11 and everytime I try to enable photo stream the app crashes. I have tried all the above suggestions, including re-installing iphoto from the Mac App store. Below are the first 50 lines of the error message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Upgraded to iPhoto 6/iLife and cannot access my iPhoto Library - help!!!
I upgraded to iPhoto 6 tonight and ran sofware update so I was sure to have the latest version. Went to open it and it said I needed to upgrade my Library. So I start the upgrade of the library and it goes all the way through till it gets to "examining photo Library" Then when it looks like it is almost finished, a window pops up and says that there is a problem accessing one or more files in my photo library folder and goes through directions to go in the finder and check to be sure permissions are all set to read and write.
I cannot figure out how to find the locked file.

imac g4 20" Mac OS X (10.3.9)The first thing you want to do is quit iPhoto, select your iPhoto Library in the Finder, and Get Info. Under Ownership and Permissions, click the triangle to show its expanded form.
If you are the owner and have read and write permissions, you will be able to click a button that says "Apply to enclosed items". Once you've entered your password, all items inside the library will have the right permissions.
If you're still getting the message, then some file inside is locked. I have no idea how they get that way, but iPhoto can't upgrade your library if a file is locked.
In your Applications/Utilities/ folder, launch Console and then launch iPhoto and get the message. Console should indicate which files are locked. Go to each of those files in the Finder, and Get Info on each. Uncheck the box that says "Locked" for each file listed in Console (there are usually only a couple or so).
Launch iPhoto again and it should work fine. -

There were two iPhoto Libraries, the one that opened was the one in the desktop I am not quite sure why there would be two. I need to learn more about this -

That's an issue with the Help Viewer app. I would post that one on the 'Using Mac OS X' forum for your version of the OS.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents. As you've tried iPhoto's own rebuild with no luck you now have two options:
Restore from your back up
or
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

We do need more information to help. Are the images gone from your iPhoto library, or is the iPhoto Library missing? How and when did this happen?
If images are missing from the library: Did you check for hidden photos? Did you check the iPhoto Trash?
If the pictures are still in the iPhoto Trash, open the Trash, select the images and and press the liitle arrow in the lower right corner - select "Put back".
If the pictures are still in an "iPhoto" folder in the system Trash (with sub folders named by date), import these folders to your iPhoto library.
Have you checked, if you have opened the correct iPhoto Library? Launch iPhoto with the options key held down, to select another Library.
If the entire Library is missing, have you searched for ".photolibrary" with spotlight?
Do have a backup?
If none of these easy measures helps, report back with more details - your iPhoto version, and anything else that might be helpful to find out, what the problem is. Don't do anything that changes the contents of your hard drive for now.

Do you mean importing photos? If so what were you importing from? If it is a flash drive why not just re-import from it? Where did you scan them?
As to backups - you really need to always have your backup running - without good backups you will lose all photos sooner or later

Since my last software update, my iphoto 11 will not import any photos from any source. The circle just spins...when I go to force quit, it says iphoto not responding. Backed up iphoto library, uninstalled and reinstalled iphoto. Still not working. Help!
Option 1

I reinstalled iPhoto 9.1 and now I can't drag and drop photos to the desktop. The photos have a grayed out flag in the upper left corner and a pull down menu in the bottom right. Please help.

That can work as one method of backup but you should be using TimeMachine and/or something to keep your system and data backed up on one or more drives.

On images that are long and narrow horizontally, iPhoto truncates them and automatically crops off part of each end of the image. the thumbnail has a jagged, serrated edge at both ends. How can I make it stop?
Then I do not get your problem - you can import the photo - you can find the photo and you can edit and save the photo - what more do you want?
By defination thumbnails are small images to help you find the large image - the large image is fine and you can find it fine - and you know it is only showing part of the image because of the "jagged ends"
If you think think that iPhoto should display long thumbnails suggest to Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto Feedback
as to your digital photoframe - contact them - in general gital photos frames display one and only one aspect ratio and any photo that is not in that aspect ratio will be modified to display - either cropped to the proper size for the frame or have 'White" space added to fill the frame - that function is totally controled by the Digital Photo frame and any otptions you have will be in the manual or on the support web site for the frame - to put it in old film terms - you can not put an 8x10 print in a 5x7 frame unless you cut the photo down (or a 8x15 photo in an 8x10 frame either)

iPhoto isn't in my applications to I can't drag it to dock. All images and movies are still on Mac (heart did stop as I thought I'd lost everything and nearly cried) but I don't know how to get iPhoto back. I'm worried about trying different things as don't want to lose anything on Mac. Noticed that I haven't been using Time Machine and bought a couple of years ago so not sure what operating with.
