IPhoto '11 Cant't save noise reduction.

Hello There!
I have a problem with iPhoto '11,  when I make some adjustments to my photos and apply the Noice Reduction, it looks that iPhoto actually save the changes but when i try to copy the photo for some other applications or wanted to upload to my flickr the noice reduction is still like was at the begining. I can only see the changes when i'm in the iPhoto Editor. HELP!

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphoto 08 does not save noise or sharpness

I have just discovered that iPhoto 08 does not save noise or sharpness adjustments. What the heck...is there a "fix" for this yet?

    The usual solutions:
Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    or
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphoto11, noise reduction dont save. it goes retour to de original if i restart the programm.

If i use "noise reduction", iphoto maks it. it works. but if i quit the photo or copie the photo, ist lost de reduction effect.
    (sorry for my englisch)

I'm suffering this same problem. Any changes I make to the de-noise slider are lost when the file is exported. Within iPhoto itself, the changes are visible. But the exported image shows none of the noise-reduction. I've noticed that this bug is present on all large images. Smaller-size photos do not seem to be plagued by this problem, however. I do hope that this bug is fixed soon.

  • Cant get noise reduction to work

when I apply the noise reduction feature to a grainly picture nothing happens.  am I missing a step?

It's subtle. Maybe zoom in and look at it. The M key will let you toggle to the Master file so you can look at the before and after quickly.

  • Are there any other enhancements in noise reduction tools in CS6

Are there any other enhancements in the noise reduction tools besides the improvement mentioned of the spot healing brush. Are there improvements on the click and pop removal tool and the noise reduction in the spectral editing view. Quite anxious to know...

    Paul:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There is a hidden feature for changing the Redeye and Retouch tool size:
How to Change the Size of the Retouch and Red-Eye Removal Tool
    Type Caps lockControl9
    Undo caps lock
Click on the Retouch or Red-Eye Removal tool
The tab key will toggle between cursor types, a cross or a circle
The "[" and "]" keys decrease or increase the size accordingly.
NOTE: Using the "{" "}" keys will will change the value next to the circle and that represents the degree of change or intensity that the tool imparts on each pass.
Also check out the tip at the end of my signature for backing up the library database file on a frequent basis.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Lightroom, Photoshop, RAW Presharpening, Noise Reduction Workflow Help

I'm tying to determine a best practices route using Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop and Nik Software Sharpener and Dfine (Noise Management Software).
I shoot only RAW with a Canon EOS 30D with good quality lenses.
I import the RAW files from the CF card directly (DNG and save) into LR, add keywords, organize, etc.
However, I am now at the point where I need to determine a sensible workflow that includes these steps:
Import RAW into LR as DNG.
    Edit, as needed, in PS.
Apply RAW Presharpening (as provided in Nik Sharpener).
Manage Noise (with Nik Dfine (2.0 available in next 24 hours).
Apply usage-based sharpening prior to printing or saving final file version.
    Maintain organization in LR.
    My original plan was:
    1. Import RAW in LR.
    2. Open in PS.
    3. Apply noise reduction.
    4. Apply RAW presharpening.
    5. Save (with new version being an "Edit" copy back in LR.
    6. Maintain organization in LR.
I'm wondering, though, if I wouldn't be better off doing the basics to the files prior to LR import. Note that the Nik tools work in 16-bit mode.
This is theoretically what I'm thinking, and would appreciate other user's input:
    1. Save RAW files to location on Mac.
    2. Apply Noise reduction to RAW files with Nik software within PS (perhaps automated, perhaps batched).
    3. Apply RAW presharpening to RAW files with Nik software within PS (perhaps automated, perhaps batched).
    4. Import noise- and presharpening-adjusted files into LR, with metadata additions, etc.
    5. Open files in PS as needed, with files becoming edit versions within LR.
    Any thoughts?

    To summarize, then:
First time opening a RAW file from Lightroom, LR automatically creates a copy and appends "-Edit" to the filename. If it's a RAW file, only available option is the third option in the dialog box: "Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments."
Once opened in Photoshop, any number of adjustments can be made and saved. All adjustments are reflected in the -Edit copy when previewed in back in LR.
If, later, I want to perform further PS edits on the -Edit version, I have 3 options as presented in the dialog box.
    1. "Edit Original (LR adjustments will not be visible)"
    2. "Edit a Copy (LR adjustments will not be visible)"
    3. "Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments"
Option 1 will open -Edit version #1 (but it will not show any changes made in LR to the -Edit file when opened in PS)
Option 2 will create a copy of -Edit version #1 and open that new file, -Edit-2 (but it will not contain any changes made in LR to the -Edit file)
Option 3 will create a copy of -Edit version #1 and open that new file, -Edit-2 and it will contain any changes made in LR to the -Edit file
So, a typical workflow would be:
    1. Import RAW file in LR.
    2. Make adjustments in LR.
    3. If needed, open a copy (by default) in PS via LR (command-E).
    4. Adjust in PS, save.
    5. Adjusted file is stacked with original RAW file in LR.
6A. Assuming no additional edits in LR, further PS adjustments can be made to -Edit version original, keeping just 1 stacked version in LR.
6B. If additional adjustments are made to the saved -Edit version in LR, and further PS adjustments are needed, I must edit a copy of the -Edit file, ultimately resulting in a second stacked file.

  • Returning to ACR for noise reduction, while in Photoshop

Is there a shortcut  back to noise reduction in ACR ~  while working on an image in Photoshop?
Of course if it's opened as a smart object you can return to raw but there are heaps of things you can't do to a smart object...
The onlty way I can think of is to save and close the file and then open it (again) in RAW. And that's a bit of a round about way to do it.

    NanceeArt wrote:

That's the only way and also note that going noise reduction on a rendered image vs a raw image is suboptimal...you really want to be doing the noise reduction BEFORE you render the file. A raw Smart Object would be useful in this situation.

  • Why is my noise reduction lost in photoshop elements editor?

I took some star shots recently in RAW format. When I open them in elements, I first get a window that lets me make changes to the RAW file, including exposure, clarity, sharpness, noise reduction... etc. I adjust the noise reduction with the luminosity sliders and get a good looking picture (a lot of noise removed). However, when I click "Open Image" to get it into the editor, it loads the image into the work space with all of the RAW edits I just made, except the noise reduction (it reverts back to the original amount of noise). Why is this and how can I stop it from happening?

The top larger image is the "after" I save (.png form), the screenshot within photoshop is the "before"...
I've also tried to the merge layers beforehand as well, but it actually just displays the image as if it were the saved version, with the noise coming through extremely hard. I just didn't save it yet.
    I appreciate the suggestion!

  • "noise reduction" not applied to exported photos

I've always used iPhoto to slightly modify my photos, before exporting and sharing or uploading to Flickr.
But, since yesterday, the exported photos do not include my "Reduce Noise" modifications. When I export them, they include the color, retouch and so on, but they look as they were BEFORE I applied the "Reduce Noise" filter.
When I look at them in the browser, they appear WITHOUT noise reduction.
When I press space to see them zoomed, they appear WITHOUT noise reduction.
When I double-clic to switch to edit mode, they appear WITH noise reduction.
And when I export them (either by dragging and dropping to the desktop or an application, using the export function or opening in an external editor), they appear WITHOUT noise reduction.
I have tried to delete the preferences of iPhoto, but the behaviour of iPhoto remains the same.
This applies to all the photos I've tried it onto. And this never happened before yesterday.
I didn't install anything new, I have no plug-ins or things like that. I've repaired the permissions, even restarted and zapped the PRAM. The only thing I've done recently is install Aperture with the 30 days trial offer. Could this be the origin of the problem?
iPhoto is an important tool for me and has always worked perfectly. I hope someone will help me solve what is a big problem for me.

I sent to the trash the iPhoto preferences I could find and launched it again
This time, I got the same behaviour, but also got console messages, as follows:

  • Noise reduction profiles?

any methods of creating profile sets similar to Neat Image or NN?
I love NN but it's not 64bit yet, and NI is great but the UI is a little rusty. It would be great to have lens profiles and noise profiles all in ACR. Anyone stumble upon a method for creating noise profiles efficiently as in NN or NI? Or have I overlooked it and it's already in CS5?
    thanks
    j

Baseline noise reduction levels are already set on a per-model basis in ACR. You can customize the settings on a per-ISO basis if you want, by (1) enabling that option in the Preferences, (2) setting your preferred NR settings in the Detail panel, and (3) choose "Save New Camera Raw Defaults" from the flyout menu.
There is not a method of providing an image of a photographed chart and feeding that to ACR to build profiles. However, you can use such a chart to evaluate noise reduction settings as you experiment with which values work best for your camera (and your personal preference).

  • Noise Reduction output Issue

Every time I apply noise reduction in LR3 Beta 2 the adjustments appear in the preview window in LR but as soon as I export as jpeg the processing dissapear.  It only happens with noise reduction - all other processing stays on the image.  Any Help?

I do notice a difference between the image quality in the Library vs. Develop and noticed that shortly after i had posted the most recent response. I am just a little confused by your post when you say that the effects are only displayed on a 1:1 or higher scale.  When i apply any form of NR the previewer - even at FIT - still shows adjustments happening. Is it simply rendering what it thinks may be adjusting or can it not comprehend the larger scale so it just smooths out some details?
And even at that, if i am able to achieve a desired effect in the previewer of Develop - shouldn't Lightroom be able to export that image that is it showing me?  I am confident that i am able to reproduce the desired look in photoshop - basically through some smoothing - but the ability to create that in LR would save a lot of time.
I digress i am not very confident in my use of Lightroom as i have only been using it for a brief time - switching primarily from aperture i find lightroom a lot easier and more efficent.

  • Noise reduction f(ISO,Camera) ?

Could there be some kind of "Preset"
(I could prepare for my husband/wife)
so that images from a basic camera
are imported with preset noise reduction ?
I would adjust NR parameters for different ISOs.
    Kind of Lens Correction f(F,f,Camera).
    Out-of-pipeline ?

If you so elect in the preferences to apply default development actions by ISO AND by Camera, you can re-save your defaults using a series of shots at each ISO setting for that camera.  Then when you import from that camera, LR will check the ISO and apply whatever you had previously set for defaults for that camera/ISO combination.  I use this for my two cameras and it works great.  I keep a separate folder for "default setting images" whereby I can always return to them if I determine I want to change my defaults moving forward.
It works well but be sure to save a default for each possible ISO setting.

  • Noise reduction on track1 using noise print from track2

I have an audio track from a video project that was recorded on track1 that has a lot of interference from the wirelss mic that was so strong that it crossed over to the idle track2. Track1 has the voice and interference intermixed. Track2 just has the interference. How can I take a noise print from track2 and use it to reduce the corresponding noise on track1? Any ideas?

    Bristol87 wrote:
In addition, to make the process more challenging, I am unable to get the audio in the edit frame to play at the same gain as in the multi-track frame. In edit mode I seem to be at a 0db gain whereas the multi-track is playing at over 12 to 20db.
I am also unclear how to get the changes back to Final Cut. When I go to File to save it I do not see a Save option that would transfer the edited audio back to the Final Cut Project.
For the additional items you mention:
    1. In your multi-track project, check your volume envelopes on the track, and check the level on your submix and master. To do this, click the the disclosure triangle just left of the track name. You'll see in purple the envelopes section, which is like keyframes in FCP.
    2. You have to export a mix to send it back to FCP. Go to File -> Export, save the master mix with a file name, and most likely as an aiff file, then in the dropdown "After Export" choose "Send to Final Cut Pro Sequence."
For your noise reduction questions - applying noise reduction is for broadband, sustained noise, like an air conditioner or a hum. Are you trying to apply the same noise reduction to several files because they have the same type of background noise? I generally just save my settings, but set a new noise print for each file. I'll give you a quick step by step:
Select a bit in the file where there's JUST noise. Then go to Process -> Noise Reduction -> Set Noise Print. Then select the entire file, and go to Process -> Noise Reduction -> Reduce Noise. When the noise reduction window comes up, you just need to listen and play with the settings until you're satisfied with how it sounds. As a starting point, take a look at the level of the noise alone, and use that as the threshold. Usually 100% noise reduction doesn't sound good, but you just have to use some trial and error. Too much sounds worse than too little, in my opinion. When satisfied, apply it and save the preset.
    Hope this helps!

  • Noise reduction query

Hello! I'm not a new user to Adobe Audition, but feel a bit out of my depth in this regard. I was just wondering if anyone could suggest the best way to edit out all the noise in the track illustrated below? It's a dialogue track but there is a lot of movement / rustling in between. Can this be taken out easily without affecting the dialogue?
Thanks in advance for any help!!

My guess is that as long as you can get a good sample of only rustling noises, you may be able to reduce somewhat the rustling noise.  Knocking them out to the point where you hardly ever heard them would require painstaking editing that would not be worth the time in most situations.  Knocking them out entirely would either change the timbre of the speakers voice or add annoying artifacts to the recording, or both.  I would settle for a try at a slight reduction, reasonably quick, somewhat improved, nothing made worse.
If I understand the display I'm looking at in the original post, someone is speaking and we see the spoken words as the most active part of the display.  In between the spoken words, we see minor activity near the bottom of the display, and you're hearing that activity as rustling noises, which you want eliminated.  Correct?  If that's the case, I would not be working in spectral view.  I primarily use spectral view for locating distinctive sounds  (particularly LP album clicks or pops) which do not show up distinctly  in waveform view because they blend in with the display of the music,  whereas in spectral view, they have a very distinctive signature (a  sharp red line which appears very distinct from musical peaks). There's nothing wrong with spectral view, other than slowing screen refreshes; it just doesn't add useful information for this editing job.  I'd switch to waveform view and highlight a portion of the rustling noise.  It should be average in amplitude, not the most annoying rustling, and it should have no trace of noise (including vocal reverb) other than rustling noises.  A couple of seconds is sufficient.  Sometimes when I can't find a couple of seconds of the target noise together, I'll splice shorter segments together to get it.  But it is important that the rustling noise be pure rustling and not unusually loud examples of it.
Once you've highlighted a couple of seconds of random, average-amplitude rustling-only noise, in Effects>Noise Reduction>Noise Reduction, hit the Capture Profile button.  This samples the rustling noises and creates a profile of them.  Hit the Select Entire File button. The entire file should be highlighted.  Slide the Noise Reduction slider down to about 70, and hit Preview.  What you're doing is listening to what your file, and you'll key in on voices now, will sound like with the rustling noises dampened down.  Listen very carefully to determine if the vocal timbre of the speaker is changing, or if you hear any odd digital artifacts, which will often sound like faint wind chimes.  (You shouldn't, with the Noise Reduction slider set to only 70; at 100, you might, or if you run Noise Reduction repeatedly, you eventually will hear artifacts.)  If you don't like the effect, move the slider.  It can be better to make two passes (particularly on a loud portion of rustling, highlighting only that part instead of Select Entire File) of Noise Reduction with the slider set in the 50-70 range, than one pass at 90-100.  Listen again to the file, and Undo if necessary.  Only Save to a copy, or to the original if you're absolutely sure the entire file is better.  Otherwise, if you save back to your original file, you can lock in digital artifacts you introduced with Noise Reduction that cannot be later removed after you realize how annoying they are.

  • Script for noise reduction

I would like to apply noise reduction using a script. I captured the noise profile then recorded the script.
When I play it back, nothing happens. If I select "stop at dialogs" then the noise reduction dialog comes up and tells me that I need to capture a profile.
Is there any way to use the existing captured profile in a script?
    Bruce

    Thank you, that did it!
For the benefit of anyone else wanting to use noise reduction in a script, here is all you need to do. Before recording the script, capture and save the noise profile. In the example below, it is saved to
    i C:\my_profile.fft.
Then record the script. In the noise reduction dialog, select
    i Load from Profile
and choose the profile you saved. Adjust any other parameters, do the noise reduction and save the script.
