IPHoto 11 continually hangs

I am becoming very frustrated with iPhoto 11.  First, I hope the development team reads this and can fix it.
Every time I try and drag a photo to a slide show the cursor turns into a wheel and just starts spinning.  Then after waiting for 20 seconds or more I go to Force Quit in the apple menu, only to discover that iPhoto is not responding.
I have repaired the database several times and am now rebuilding the database.
Following the rebuilding of the database, at least one of my slide shows is completely screwed up, with completely wrong photos in it.  Then when I go and select another slide show, iPhoto crashes.
I am getting more and more concerned with this product and am starting to think it is not liveing up to the quality of product that Apple has been known for.  I sure hope this is not a sign of things to come now that Apple is on top.
Cheers,
J

Note that as stated in the TOU this is a user to user support forum - while the Apple develpoment team might possibly read this it is not likely and they probably will not respond even if they do  - at best it goes into their bugs to fix list if it is considered a bug
Most likely it is library corruption which generally is not a result of a bug but of a failure of somesore specific to your system
If you have used the iPhoto "rebuild library' and it wa uncessful yoru next step is to restore the backup you made prior to rebuilding and tey ipiPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - to rebuild your library - it creates a totally new rebuild library so yoru original one is untouched if you do not like the results of the trbuild

  • I just upgraded to FF 4.0, and am overall unhappy with the app. It runs much slower than my previous version, and continually hangs...even on the Mozilla websites. I'm going to try and go back to my older version, which I loved.

As noted in my question, FF4.0 continually hangs (Not responding) even on your website.

  • IPhoto 6 Hangs When "Recovered Photos" Are Opened

iPhoto 6 "recovered" 300+ photos when I updated from iPhoto 5. I can still see the recovered photos in both my library and albums, but if I double-click on the photos, iPhoto 6 hangs with a spinning ball icon requiring a Force Quit to recover. I can open the photos in the "Recovered Photos" album, but I'm not sure how to get them back into my library and other albums. Has anyone been able to do this?
    Thanks, Will
    G5, 2 GHz, Dual Processors   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

When upgrading to iPhoto 6, the 'recovered photos' it finds are stored as follows:
a if you opt to import the photos when iPhoto asks, they are left where iPhoto found them (or lost them, depending on how you view it...) in the 'year' folder system, within the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder; e.g. 2005>12>15>photo.jpg, 2003>10>05>photo2.jpg etc. Within iPhoto itself the photos are grouped in one new roll, and an album is created in the Source list called "Recovered Photos".
b if you opt not to import the photos, they are moved from the 'year' folder system in the Finder into one folder within the iPhoto Library folder, entitled "Recovered Photos". The 'year' folders can be deleted, if they are still there - you should find that they are empty and they are not used by iPhoto 6.
In Case b you can move the "Recovered Photos" folder to anywhere you like, e.g the Desktop, as the photos are no longer associated with iPhoto. In fact, if you decide you need to import some or all of the photos back into iPhoto, you will have to move the RP folder to another location as iPhoto will disallow any import from within the iPhoto Library folder.
Take care either way; in my case I had 1014 recovered photos, which included all of the following:
a originals of some of my photos, the edited versions were still in iPhoto
b random duplicates of original photos
c photos, both original and edited versions, which I had deleted long ago - sometimes as long as 2-3 years, many versions of iPhoto ago!
When I have chance soon I intend to document my own personal recovery procedure / experience, in case it helps anyone else when upgrading. In the meantime, feel free to ask if you have any questions...

  • IPhoto 8 hangs / beachball - solution

I was having trouble with iPhoto 8 hanging when i started the application. I fixed this problem by unchecking both sharing options in the preferences (share my photos & look for shared photos).
If only one on these options is used iPhoto starts behaving itself again.
Tip: if you cant open iPhoto to change these setting, delete the following preference file first:
    plist.iPhoto.apple.com - found in User/Library/Preferences folder.

No wonder it came out backwards.

  • IPhoto 08 "hangs up"

iPhoto 8 "hangs up" whever I try to perform any operation. The dreaded spinning wheel comes on and stays on for a long time. I have rebuilt the thumbnail cache as well as repaired the permissions, but to no avail. Kindly advise how to overcome this problem.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • Transferring photos from camera or memory card causes iPhoto to hang up with the spinning beach ball - why

Transferring photos from camera or memory card causes iPhoto to hang up with the spinning beach ball - why?  This happens only on a 5 year old iMac running 10.6.8.  It is a recent developmemt.  All other machines have no problen with the same card.

I click on the send feedback everytime it pops up with the force quit, so they'er getting it.
That sends a crash report. Its doubtful that these are ever seen by a human being, but more likely datamined. Sending feedback reaches an actual person.
My guess from yourdescription is that the portion of the OS (note, OS, not iPhoto) that manages the importing process is what's crashing.

  • IPhoto '08 hangs

I have recently started having iPhoto 08 hang. I've identified some actions that result in the dreaded appearance of the rainbow pinwheel of death: 1) if I view photos in full screen, when I attempt to exit full screen either by pressing the escape key or by clicking the Circled X on the lower menu bar, 2) when I edit a photo in a separate window and click the Adjust button, 3) when I simply click "edit" on a photo. What do I do?

Thanks for the suggestion. The new library has the same problem. I have also noted that I cannot exit iPhoto normally at all. I have to use Force Quit. I do have some function - I can select events and view photos, but it seems as if iPhoto itself is corrupted. I do not notice any other problems on my computer at the present. I first noted the problem with iPhoto a few days ago after I plugged in an HDTV and viewed photos on it. Everything seemed OK until I tried to exit full screen, and it has been impaired ever since.
The only other recent issue with this computer was as follows: About a week ago I lost all of the stuff on my top right menu bar (e.g. clock, battery monitor, etc). I could not make the clock appear through system preferences. Everything came back after I shut down and restarted. I don't restart very often, and the machine had probably been up for a week or longer with daily use.

  • Why does my iphoto continue to say " photos are being imported to the photo library" every time I try to close? I have not been imported and this has been keeping me from closing for weeks.

    Hi all,
on my laptop Skype is continuously hanging.
During a text chat I see quite often that the skype windows freezes and I have to wait 5-10 seconds before it gets back to normal and I can type messages.
During a video call if the same thing happens the call is dropped and I have to start a new one.
I tried updating the drivers of the display and IE to 11, since i saw similar posts, but it didn't help.
    I am using Windows 7 SP1, 64 bits.
    Can you please help?
    Thanks,

  • Due to customer being supported, must use FF 3.6.18 and today it has gone into continual hang/crash modes. Uninstall/reinstall = still crashes.

Last few weeks, FF has been intermittently hanging. Now after continual crasheds, finally uninstalled and resintalled and it either immediately crashes or hangs with most (but not all) URLs. Google/Yahoo OK, CNN comes up, then usually hangs (sometimes immediately closes browser with error msg (see below).

What posted was not the crash report, but that is the extra information about your Firefox setup that Firefox sends to the Mozilla server as part of the crash data.
If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more crash reports (bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx).

  • IPhoto 09 hangs after launch...

Not sure why, but this started happening about a week ago. No real changes to anything in the way I use iPhoto and no system changes. I am not using a network drive, or USB storage. All photos are in the default library.
When I launch iPhoto, it loads, shows the events screen and then hangs (beach ball). I have left it this way overnight with no resolution. Only way to get it going again seems to be a reboot and then launching iPhoto before any other app.
    Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
1 - quit iPhoto and delete your iPhoto preference file - "your username" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist - when you launch iPhoto it will create a new, default preference file - reset any user preferences you have changed and if you have changed the location of the iPhoto library re-point iPhoto to its new location
If this does not resolve your problem then
2 - Launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) and command (apple) keys and use the last rebuild option - rebuild from last automatic database backup
    Rebuilding often will resolve this

  • IPhoto Preferences hangs

After I launch iPhoto, I can look at photos in albums, etc. but when I click on Preferences, iPhoto hangs and I have to do a Force Quit.   This has just started recently and about the only change I've made to my environment is a new iPad Air.  I am on a Mac Mini runing OS 10.6.8 and my version of iPhoto 9 is 8.1.2.  I've tried deleting the preferences and cache files and restarting but that doesn't help.   There doesn't seem to be any recent posts on this problem so I'm at a loss.  I suppose I could stop using iPhoto Preferences but I wanted to change the drop down option under General that specifies what to do when a camera is attached.  Another different situation that may be related is that when I attach my new iPad Air, it launches iPhoto which did not happen when I attached my old iPad 2.

If it's not hanging when you trie  iPhoto in another user account on your may it may be incompatible or corrupt preference files in your account.  The following is one way to test that:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
NOTE: In Lion and later the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks or Yosemite  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
    1 - close all applications.
2 - open your Home/Library folder and Option-drag (copy) the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
3 - select the contents of your Home/Library/Preferences folder and drag them into the Trash bin in the Dock.  You will be asked to provide your Admin password.
4 - reboot. Be sure to know your account's username and password as you will be asked to log in with it.
5 - run the application again and determine if the problem(s) is fixed.
6 - If the problem is fixed:
    A - open the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
B - Open the Preferences  folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace or Skip button.
    D - reboot.
7 - If the problem is NOT fixed, drag the contents of the Preference folder on the Desktop into the Home/Library/Preference folder and replace the entire contents that were created by clicking on Replace.
8 - reboot and you're back as square one.
Note:  keep the Preference folder on the desktop until you're sure all registration info for your apps are working.  If not you can copy the required files from the desktop pref folder to the working one.
Also be sure to have a current backup of your hard drive before attempting.

  • IPhoto Preferences Hang After Move to External Drive

    Hello all,
I bought a 2TB drive yesterday and moved my iphoto library to it.  Now, when I attempt to open iPhoto preferences it hangs and I must use force quit to exit. All of my photos, albums, etc. are intact on both my iMac and external drive.  I have Mac OS 10.5.8 and iPhoto 8.1.  I deleted my com.apple.iphoto.plist and com.apple.iphoto as I had read this may help.  It did not.  Now what? Should I rebuild or reinstall?
*As a side note, I upgraded my iPhone 4 to IOS 6 and have recently synced it with my Mac. Not sure if one has anything to do with the other. Thank you in advance.
    lisa

Since iPhoto worked OK in the other account then there's something in your account that's causing the problem.  It could be a preference file other than iPhoto's.  Here's how to determine if that's the case:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
    4 - reboot.
5 - run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed
6 - If the problem is fixed:
    A - open the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
B - Open the Preferences  folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace or Skip button.
    D - reboot.
7 - If the problem is NOT fixed, drag the contents of the Preference folder on the Desktop into the Home/Library/Preference folder and replace the entire contents that were created by clicking on Replace.
    8 - reboot.

  • Firefox continually hangs even after trying the solutions listed here, and in other sites, and I can't find any common link to pinpoint what is causing it.

I love Firefox but I may have no choice but to try Chrome instead. Over the past couple of weeks the version of Firefox I have installed on my Lenovo Edge 15 latop (which is the most current version of Firefoxc), hangs several times an hour, for approx a minute each time. I have tried to locate the cause of the problem by eliminating the websites I commonly visit, but it seems that it does not matter what website I visit, it continues to happen. I have even tried loading Firefox in safe mode and it still makes no difference. And this problem is only affecting Firefox, and none of my other programs are affected. I have used resource monitor to try and locate the problem and, when this problem occurs, Firefox is reported as taking up 25% of CPU consumption. I am using Windows 7.

I have a Mac and have tried the suggestion above with the places.sqlite but it DID NOT HELP! FIREFOX IS STILL HANGING!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been a real fan of firefox for several years, but lately it's just plain annoying!!! I have to force quit FF several times a day. I THINK I'M GOING TO SWITCH TO SAFARI until you guys get your act together soon :(

  • My ICloud continues "setting up" and IPhoto continues installing so does anyone have any answers that will keep me from losing everything?

I started installing Yosemite yesterday and finished today. I could not use the FileVault because I don't know my administrator password so I unchecked the two boxes and continued. My ICloud has been "setting up" for hours. Also, I tried updating my IPhoto and it is still installing. If I stop the ICloud, I will lose everything and there's no place to stop the IPhoto install. What's going on? What can I do about this?
