Iphoto 11 De-noise

I was curious to know before I upgraded to ILife 11', was if the photos are saved after editing. I know there has been a lot of concerns about this in Iphoto 09 after using the de-noise edit feature. After applying the effect in edit mode and click done, it would not save the edit. Again, just wondering if the problem was fixed in this newer edition of ILife. Thank you.

I'm having the same problem.
Some edits appear not to be saved.
However the problem is that iPhoto in Edit mode renders the jpeg photos DIFFERENTLY when not displayed in actual size.
To verify I duplicated an unedited photo and named the identical copies ORIGINAL and EDITED.
Used Edit to make significant adjustments to sharpness and de-noise.
In Edit mode there APPEAR to be a clear difference between the ORIGINAL and the EDITED photos as the pimples doesn't show on the EDITED shoot of the teenager.
However as soon as I'm out of edit mode the improvements are much less dramatic.
When exporting the two photos the resulting JPEG files of the edited photo shows only subtle improvements. File size of ORIGINAL 1.7 MB, EDITED 1.3 MB.
When going back to iPhoto Edit mode and zooming to 100% I can see the result as clearly as in the exported jpegs.
Bottom line: Edit your photos in actual size or iPhoto will mislead you.

  • De-noise on iPhoto not working with Canon camera pictures

When I try to use the de-noise option in iPhoto on some pictures taken with a professional camera (Canon), it does not de-noise the picture.
I tried diffrent stuff to see what works and what does not:
    - If I use a picture taken from iPhone / iPad, in iPhoto de-noise works
    - If I take a professional picture, send it to my iPhone and resend it on my Mac, the de-noise will work
    - If I use a professional picture on my Mac desktop, de-noise works as well.
Just not in that initial circumstance ... Strange !! Help ?!

    How does this
When I try to use the de-noise option in iPhoto on some pictures taken with a professional camera (Canon), it does not de-noise the picture
    differ from this?
    - If I use a professional picture on my Mac desktop, de-noise works as well.

  • Noise in LR 2.6 (poor) vs. iPhoto (good)

    Hi all
Additional to my Canon 1d MkIII I use a Canon G11 since some month. These days I'm processing many G11-RAW files from a journey. Especially with high-ISO pictures, above ISO 500, I was very disappointed about the mad ISO noise in many pictures.
Some days ago I opened one of those horrible ISO 1600 pictures in iPhoto'09 and I was really very surprised, that the quality of the pictures is ways better in iPhoto than in LR 2.6 by default parameters.
As I could read, the noise handling will be much better in LR 3 than in LR 2.6. Since I can't wait to the lunch of the production version of LR 3, I'm thinking to go for Apple Aperture or Phase One C1, since the noise handling in LR 2.6 is not acceptable in my opinion.
What are your experiences regarding poor noise handling of LR 2.6 especially with noisier high-ISO cameras? How do you work around the noise problems?
I'm disappointed about the Adobe LR 2.x noise quality. I didn't expect the result of this random comparison LR vs. iPhoto.
    Cheers
    Photo-mania

You are looking at the image in Develop(Entwickeln) zoomed out. In that view, Lightroom does not apply any noise reduction or sharpening for speed reasons. It also only shows you a subset of the pixels, again for speed reasons. This tends to highly overexaggerate the noise. It is not really there. To see what it really does to the image, zoom in to 1:1, or go back to Library (Bibliothek), where you will see an actual rendering of the entire image the same way that iPhoto shows you. You will see the noise disappear. When zoomed at 1:1, do some optimization of the noise reduction settings as you have no luminance noise reduction dialed in at all. This should get you much better image quality than what you can get from iPhoto. LR3 will have even better noise reduction but it hasn't been released yet except for a very incomplete beta.

  • Iphoto 08 does not save noise or sharpness

I have just discovered that iPhoto 08 does not save noise or sharpness adjustments. What the heck...is there a "fix" for this yet?

    The usual solutions:
Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    or
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Reduce Noise setting in iPhoto 08 won't save me edits

    I hope someone can help.
Whenever I apply the Reduce Noise filter in iPhoto 08 and then click 'Done' - it doesn't save the changes that I made.
All other effects that I apply are saved (e.g. brightness, tint etc) it is just the Reduce Noise one that doesn't save.
I have tried exporting the photo after the 'Reduce Noise' effect has been applied. It exports the photo successfully - but when I open the photo, the 'Reduce Noise' effects have not been saved.
Is this something that I can fix? Or is this a known bug in this version of iPhoto 08?
If it is a bug - how do I let Apple know so that they can release an update?
Thanks everyone - I'm new to the Mac, this in my first one, and I only got it a couple of weeks ago.

    To talk to Apple:
iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback
There have been reports of some folk having difficulty with some of the editing features, but nothing that makes me say it effects everyone. Somethings to try
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there.

What kind of noise? Any other app make noise?

  • Strange noise with iPhoto

    Hi,
My mum just found a strange problem with her eMac. It is an old one running OS 10.4.11.
She was using iPhoto 4, selecting photos for an Album. There was a load noise every time she tried to navigate from an Album back into the Photo Library. This persited untill she selected another photo from the Library.
The noise doesn't sound like the fan or the disk, its more like a loud warning gong repeated over and over very quickly.
Has anybody else heard anything like this? And do you know what could be causing it.
    Thank you...

Thanks, will try it. It seems to have stopped on its own, no idea why, but if it happens again I guess we'll just be able to switch off that particular sound effect. Thanks very much...

  • IPhoto '11 Cant't save noise reduction.

    Hello There!
I have a problem with iPhoto '11,  when I make some adjustments to my photos and apply the Noice Reduction, it looks that iPhoto actually save the changes but when i try to copy the photo for some other applications or wanted to upload to my flickr the noice reduction is still like was at the begining. I can only see the changes when i'm in the iPhoto Editor. HELP!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Fan noise while import into iPhoto (MBPr late 13)

    Hello,
is it normal, that the fan turns on while importing photos (raws) into iPhoto. Recently i read an article/test saying the MBPr stay quite while doing that.
    Thank you for your response.

OK.. so its seems that it was incidental about removing the eye tv stick as the problem has returned.
I do believe this time that I have a better understanding of what is going on for me at least.
I installed "temperature monitor" to keep an eye on what was going on. The problem appears to be with the CPU A sensor. I just this moment woke my machine up and shortly afterward the fan started. I looked at the temps and the CPU A sensor read 127 C which was obvious rubbish since it had been asleep in a low ambient room. I suspected a bad reading from a bad connection or sensor so I tapped the machine on the back a few times (not too hard) and the reading returned to 33 C and the fan stopped.
My problem now seems clear (I must have bumped the machine when removing the EYE TV stick the first time leading me down the garden path a bit).. maybe this will help others.

  • I have an older macbook pro and the hard drive is starting to go (making loud noises). i tried to back up to an external hard drive (my passport essential se) using time machine and the computer keeps shutting down. suggestions to complete backup please?

I have an older macbook pro and the hard drive is starting to go (making loud noises). i tried to back up to an external hard drive (my passport essential se) using time machine and the computer keeps shutting down. the same thing happens when just trying to save my pictures from iphoto to a flash drive. suggestions to complete backup please?

Sounds like you'll need to access that drive while it is not booted. You need to replace it anyway, so do that, then one way or another (ext enclusure, et), access it and copy files.
If you keep trying to boot it, you might kill it for good and not get your files, so just swap it out first.

  • Grinding noise from hard disk

I have been going through posts but cannot find specific similar cases so am posting a new topic.
I have slow downs and spinning wheels accompanied by 3 grr.grr.....grrr where ..... is a second length pause. Repeats every 2 seconds. ( same timing as a wood pigeon or dove song !!) 10 slowdowns with spinning wheels while writing this. It makes this noise whenever there is a spinning disk. Every 10 - 20 seconds!
This seems to be since 10.5.8 update.
Back up to a firewire G-tech drive gives me a lot of read/write errors and can't copy files on iphoto files and one mp3 file. No way round but to copy in batches to find the culprits. Finder freezing and have to force quit on the copy error. I get a -36 error code. Random files that were ok are impossible to copy. Time capsule has been getting stuck on backups for a month. Can't track down a reason. I don't know if its getting stuck on the same files.
So - is my hard drive on the way out with this noise and hanging???
I am not up for an archive and install. Its lengthy and I don't think it will help............
I tried to compress my i photo "originals" folder but to no avail - error half way through I presume on one of the files that it can't copy.
Anyone any suggestions. A complete power down battery out helps but I am just waiting for the next session of hangs.
A verify disk gives the disk a green light. I don't have my original install disk with me (me in France - disk in UK).
    MBP 2.5 Mac OS X (10.5.6) 4 GB

Cheering news - I was afraid this was going to be the case.
However - I have no console log - HD/Library/logs/etc. Spotlight won't find it either.
Also it seems I cannot just copy whole chunks of files - I just get read/write errors half way along and have to start again.
Finder crashing and freezing each time requiring a force quit. It crashes when I press "stop copying".
Any ideas of recovering these read/write error files would be gratefully received.

  • Macbook pro- OSX lion 10.7.2 fan noise

I just bought a macbook pro laptop, upgraded it to the Lion version, it is now 10.7.2, with processor of 2.7 GHz intel core i7, memory of 8GB, 1333 MHz DDR3. Whenever I am on a program like imovie, safari, iphoto, charging my smartpen...etc.... the fans goes off like crazy. It lasts for a very long time. Sometimes the noise get so bad, it goes from loud to louder...... I don't know what the problem is.
I am a new mac user, I have no idea how to install, delete, clean softwares. Please help?? Thank You ...

Thanks a lot for replying, but what exactly does the istat widget program do?
Also, the fan noise seems like a normal noise every time I launch a program, but it's getting to the point where I am frustrated(annoyed) of the fan noise. I would've thought that upgrading to a Mac book would cause less fan noise because of it's high processor. Sometimes I feel like I should go back to a Dell or HP because of this problem, but at the same time, I love my laptop. ;)

  • Exporting: iPhoto won't show all edits and modifications when exporting

    Hi there,
A problem recently cropped up in my iPhoto album.
    I'm using at 12" PowerBook G4, 1.5GHz, 250GB HD / 1.25GB RAM / OS 10.5.6 / iPhoto 8.0.2 (iPhoto '09). My iPhoto library contains 29,654 photos and 333 movies in 474 events and measures 119.2GB, including content since 1999. It's stored on a LaCie external FireWire drive.
The problem I'm experiencing is as follows:
Certain photos, no matter how I export them, be it via the +File -> Export+ command (to +File Export+ or Facebook (having installed the plug-in) or by dragging-and-dropping from iPhoto to the Finder, will not export with all (or sometimes any) of my edits (a.K.a., enhancements, changes or adjustments) made.
This is to say, for certain photos, I cannot figure out how to get the version of the photo I can see within iPhoto out of iPhoto so it can be shared or used elsewhere.
These +certain photos+ which won't export properly seem to be ones which have had more extensive editing done to them, specifically having had extensive shadows, highlights, definition or de-noise work done.
I have searched the Support Discussions and the web for other case and have found a several. Unfortunately, all of the helpful Support Discussions regarding this issue were archived (and closed) before they reached a solution.
Here is an example of such a case where the various Support Discussions users went to extensive effort to solve the problem but ended without a solution in August of 2008:

    LarryHN,
    Thanks for responding so quickly.

Yes, unfortunately I've tried this. I also tried exporting in every different format, without any luck.
    LarryHN wrote:
2 - select the photo in iPhoto and right click (control click) on it and select show file - this will open a finder window - see if the file it brings up has your modifications
This takes me to a file within a sub-folder of the Modified folder. This is an incorrect version of the photo. Choosing +Show Original File+ from the secondary-click menu takes me to another incorrect version of the file within a sub-folder of the Originals folder, as expected.
    LarryHN wrote:
3 - go to your iPhoto library and right click (control click) on it and show package contents - look in the modified folder (be very careful not to make any changes of any sort) and look at the photo there with preview and see if the changes show up
Here I ended up at another incorrect version of the photo, which was in a sub-folder of the Modified folder... I think this is the same file I was directed to when I secondary-clicked and selected +Show File+.
Thanks for the help -please let me know if you have any further suggestions.

  • What are the iphoto files I need to restore iphoto library deleted from drive

A few days ago my hard drive started making noises and I was getting all sorts of errors.  I even got errors trying to do a time machine backup with the final error being "backup failed".
Earlier last week I imported a couple hundred photos of my kids from Christmas to present which also included our vacation last month.  I deleted the photos from my camera after the import.  Then foolishly, I didn't think to do any time machine backups between then and the time my hard drive started making noise.
I bought a new SSD drive.  I could still access the bad drive so I moved my pictures directory from the bad drive to the new drive.  It took nearly two hours.  It appeared to have moved everything, but it did not move the iphoto library.  The pictures directory is gone from the old hard drive.
I purchased FileSalvage and recoved thousands of deleted jpg files from my old drive, but none appear to be the pictures I lost.
It appears that FileSalvage will recover specific file types.  There doesn't seem to be a way to just tell it to recover the deleted "pictures" directory or recover "iphoto library".
If I was able to specify specific file names to restore, what files would I even need to specify?   I have iphoto 11.
I came across an article about iphoto library files from iphoto 6 and previous versions which explained the following iphoto files: library.iphoto6, albumdata.xml, Thumb32Segment.data, Thumb64Segment.data, ThumbJPGSegment.data, etcxxxxx.
    mmm
Does iphoto 11 use similar file names?  I'm not concerned with keeping my iphoto database in tact.  I just want my pictures.
Maybe I'm asking the wrong question.  Any advice on how to get my pictures back would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!
    MH

Simply, you can't recover the iPhoto Library. What you need to do is try recover the Photos that were in it. These will be saved as jpeg files* and that's what you need to search for. Recovering all the other files will do no good. You won't be alble to reconstruct the Library. Your aim is to get the Photos and then start over.
The search may find many files of the same name, try to recover the largest files - they are most likely to be your originals.
