IPhoto '11 deletes albums

iPhoto '11 deletes albums, poof they're gone.

Perhaps not exactly the same fault but I have experienced two crashes while populating a particular album. After the crash, only the very first picture is left in the album. Furthermore, none of the pictures are in the "last 12 months" file. Worse: I cannot find the data file used by iPhoto. If I could find it, I might be ablle to recover from the backup disk. (I am 'populating' through drag and drop from a file folder).
The irony of this is that I am trying to assemble a simple slide show and I would normally do this by putting selected pictures into a file UNSORTED or, to use Apple's terminology: Arranged: none - but that doesn't work; the file is sorted on one of the parameters - name, size, type, etc - whether you want it or not. So I attempted to use iPhoto and have just lost three days work with, apparently, no way to recover in spite of having backup.

  • I have a big problem. iphoto started deleting albums from my facebook. How can I stop it from deleting my fb albums?  Why is it doing this?

I uploaded a few photos from a memory card and went on iphoto to crop a few. When I finished a message box popped up stating Your album titled " ____"  was deleted from facebook.  The photos are still in your iphoto library. The only choice that you have is OK.  I did a option command escape and forced quit out of iphotos. I thought this might stop the fb album from being deleted...but it didnt!  The album was deleted from my facebook page!  The next time that I opened iphoto a message box popped up and again another facebook album was deleted.  I am now afraid to open iphoto!  How do I make this stop?  Note; I do have a lot of photos on my macbook pro and they are all backed up on an external drive. I like keeping the pictures on my mac but if it comes down to it I would rather delete files from my laptop than lose them on fb. HELP!!!!

  • How to delete albums from iphoto?

There is clear instructions from within iPhoto to delete Journals but nothing about deleting albums.  How do I go about doing this on an iOS device - iPad or iPhone?

Albums are deleted using the Photo app or by syncing with your computer.use the Photo app to delete photos in the Camera Roll, All Imported and Last Imported albums.
To delete other albums start iTunes on the computer that you normally sync with and connect your iPad. Select your pad in the left column of iTunes on your computer. At the top of the right column select Photos.
In the list of Albums below deselect those albums you want to delete. That click on Apply in the lower right corner of that window.

  • IPhoto Deleted Albums Showing Up in Desktop & Screensaver Settings

I use a MacBook and an iMac. I keep all of my images on my iMac, but when I'm out and about, I import to the MacBook from my camera. Recently, I consolidated my library (First time since Leopard) and put everything to my iMac. I deleted all of the images from iPhoto. When I opened up my Desktop & Screensaver preferences to change my desktop, under the tab for iPhoto Albums, I all of the deleted albums. If I select them, I cannot remove them, and the images aren't there. I am guessing this is somewhere in the system, but not sure how to get rid of this issue. Thanks for the help!

How did you do this? Export from MB and import to iMac? iPhoto Library Manager (IPLM)? how?
I deleted all of the images from iPhoto.
On which system - the MB or the iMac (I'm guessing the MB but not sure) ? How did you delete all images? Using iPhoto and dragging to the iPhoto trash then emptying the iPhoto trash? (this is the proper way) Or some other way?
When I opened up my Desktop & Screensaver preferences to change my desktop, under the tab for iPhoto Albums, I all of the deleted albums. If I select them, I cannot remove them, and the images aren't there. I am guessing this is somewhere in the system, but not sure how to get rid of this issue.
Is this on the MB or the iMac (again I'm guessing the MB and that you expect there to be no photos or anything else there on the MB - that everything is on the iMac - and that you have carefully verified that)? The answer will depend on what you did (above) to get here
Is iPhoto working perfectly on both systems except this? can you see all events and photos within the events that should be there on each system?
Again I'm assuming that at this time you want all photos on the iMac and no photos on teh MB but please verify.

  • How do I delete albums in iPhoto '11

After upgrading to iPhoto '11, I'm having trouble with my folders and albums.  When I created two new albums, iPhoto made duplicates of each of them.  Then it wouldn't let me delete the dupes or the original albums.  The problem albums are inside folders I created. I tried selecting the album and right-clicking to delete it. Nothing happens.  I tried selecting it and choosing "Delete Album" from the "Photos" menu. Nothing happens.  I tried deleting all the photos in the album, then repeating the previous deletion methods. The albums are still there.  According to their icons, they are NOT Smart Albums!  How can I make the dumb things go away?

A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • How do I delete albums on my phone? They do not appear on my iphoto file

I have photo albums on my phone that are not on the iphoto files.  I can delete from my camera roll but not from the albums.  How do I delete albums on my iphone?

If the albums were originally placed on the phone by syncing from a computer via iTunes, you remove the albums by syncing again with iTunes but this time removing the check mark beside "Sync Photos From:" (if you want to remove all previously synced photos) or changing the selection of albums/folders to be synced. Each time you sync using iTunes it sets the non-Camera Roll photos to match the current settings on the photos page of iTunes. More info: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236

  • Deleting album called "Photos" under iPhoto

After importing my iPhoto library, three folders showed up in Aperture. A "root" folder called iPhoto, and two sub-folders - "events" and "Photos." The import was to add iPhoto to the Aperture library (masters). I have re-organized the event projects out of the iPhoto folder. Now all that is left is the album titled "photos." My question is this - can I now delete this folder. When I place the cursor over it, it says "2046 versions."

Delete Album will only remove the album. The image masters reside in a project and will remain there.
Deleting a folder will remove everything in it to the trash. If there are projects in the folder all the masters in the project go to the trash. Remove any projects you need first. Allan

  • I cannot delete albums from iPhoto

I cannot delete albums from iPhoto.any advice?

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. More information means you get better assistance.

when updating my ipad air to iOs 8 my 2 albums on iphoto were deleted since iphoto is no longer supported. Anyone similar experiences? Any chance to get back my albums (not only the pictures, but the actual album with text etc)?

This blur below copied from here. I made the text bold for emphasis.
Migrating from iPhoto for iOS to Photos on iOS 8 - Apple Support
The following data will migrate from iPhoto to Photos.
Any photos in your iPhoto library that aren't already in Photos are added.
Image adjustments you made in iPhoto are migrated to Photos.
If you applied image adjustments to photos synced to your iOS device from iTunes, a duplicate of each photo will be created in Photos with adjustments applied.
Photos hidden in iPhoto do not appear in the Years, Moments, or Collections views in Photos, but are placed in an album titled Hidden.
Photo Books, Web Journals, and Slideshows are converted into regular albums in Photos. Text and layouts are not preserved.
Only projects created on the device performing the migration will be converted. Projects you synced from other devices to iPhoto via iCloud must be converted from the devices on which they were created.
Photos marked as Favorites in iPhoto are marked as Favorites in Photos.
Tags and captions from iPhoto are not displayed in Photos, but you can use them as search terms and they will show up respectively as Keywords and Titles in Photos search results.
Flags from iPhoto are converted to the keyword Flagged.

  • IPhoto Gallery - phantom albums

I wanted to have a separate "drop box" folder for photos uploaded by friends in Gallery.
So I chose a Drop Box image jpeg which I made and placed in iPhoto (so that image would act as the key photo for the folder) as a photo to Share, and created a New Folder in Gallery. Everthing OK so far, but after a few moments I got a message saying that there were no photos in the album and MobileMe would delete the album. I tried again and again and on the fourth try, bingo, there was what I wanted. It worked.
However, when I used Safari to check the Gallery page there was my Drop Box album (good) and the other three (not good) that I had tried to make but were "deleted." These three phantom "deleted" albums appear in Safari but not in iPhoto Web, so I can't get rid of them from appearing in Safari.
Any ideas as to how to stop them from appearing on the internet page? Thanks in advance to those mac people who take the time to help.
PS Apple to summarily execute Gallery (and iWeb) next year. A crying shame for me. Not much reason for me to continue giving them a yearly subscription anymore except that I'd lose my mac email. Or is there a reason to continue subscribing?
Again, as above, any ideas as to commercial photo hosting sites and their value? Have to spend more money yearly. Have done some reading research already myself of course, but often read lots of negative things about Flickr and the others. I only share my photos with a handful of people and with Gallery it has been so easy, just add a few new ones now and then (about 1,000 now) without the need to waste my time "managing" it as I've got loads of GB space on my MobileMe account. Is setting up a homepage somewhere (where?) a better idea than Flickr, et al?
Anyhow, thanks again to those who respond.

Am replying to myself as I have found how to get rid of the "phantom" albums. Logged on to MobileMe, then to Gallery, and there I could delete them. Merry Xmas 2011.

  • Hidden & Recently deleted Albums in Photos  on IOS 8

Having just updated to IOS8 and lost iPhoto without warning I am trying to get my head round the new features in Photos.
If I want to clear space how can I do that if the deleted items are now moved into a Recently Deleted Album?
    And
If the point of the Hidden Album is to hide photos how do you stop someone looking at them if all you have to do is tap on the album and it opens?
Sorry if I am missing the obvious!
And does anyone know of a replacement photo editing app please! I need to have something where I can add titles, at my age I will never remember where the heck I took the photo otherwise!

OK, I've got a similar, but more irritating, problem.
My iPad Air 16GB had too many photos on, using up nearly 4GB of space.  So I archived these photos and got rid of all but about 25.
In the next couple of weeks I was a lot better at housekeeping my photos and deleted them every couple of days.
Next time I wanted to do an iTunes sync, I noticed Photos was still taking up about 4 GB.  Hmm, so I had a look on the net and saw the recently deleted photos "feature" and how to deal with it.  Great I said to myself and went to the "recently deleted" folder where it had only about 40 photos.  So i deleted these i.e. ALL the photos in "recently deleted".  But still iTunes and the iPad were reporting photo usage as around 4GB.  Grrr
So I backed up my iPad, reset it to factory settings and restored.  Still 4GB being reported as photos, still an empty "recently deleted" folder, just the 25 photos I'd saved.  Huh?????
So I fired up Syncios - lo and behold it says there are about 2,300 photos in recently deleted.  But Syncios won't let me delete them and I can't see them on my iPad or on iTunes to delete them.  So what the **** do I do?????

  • Iphoto and flickr albums

Is there anyway to stop iPhoto from automatically putting my photos uploaded to flickr in albums? I don't always want them in an album so I have to continually go into flickr and delete the albums. Even when I do want them in an album, if I add to an album after it's been uploaded once, it creates a new album with the same name rather than including them with the original one.
My biggest request would be to make uploading to/as an album optional. Apple owes me about 4 hours of my life over the past 18 months in time spent deleting albums in flickr.

    Hello Shareski,
iPhoto was designed to work with Albums. Thats how you organize images. So iPhoto will always upload to an album. However, one you've created a flick album in iPhoto, when you add additional images to that album in iPhoto those images should appear in the same album on Flickr. If your finding that a new album gets generated when you add new images this suggests something may be wrong with your particular iPhoto Library. Consider performing a rebuild http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638.
    Hope that helps.

  • IPhoto behaviour with Albums

can anyone explain or point me in the direction of the reaoning behind iphotos behaviour with Albums and Smart Albums in 2 situations.
the first, is when using Airpics App and Server, the second when viewing a shared library.
my set up is my iPhoto main DB is on a headless Mini. I also have a MBP on the same wireless network that view and controls the Mini.
in situation 1, when my iPad views my Minis library via thr Airpics apps, it says it only views Albums and Smart Albums, not Events but i can see an item that is an event. it consequently is the last full import i do so is the last import considered an album or smart album?
in 2, when i view my Mini iPhoto DB on my MBP via sharing, lots of Albums and Smart Albums come up from the past that i have deleted. Where is it gettign this info from? is it old stuff from the Minis DB coming through? Or are these current or old stuf from my MBP somehow? when i open the Minis DB on my MBP using Alt-Open and selecting the DB Directly instead of over sharing, these Albums / Smart Albums dont exist. i only see what i expect to see, Currwnt set up..

    thank you again Terence.
you see ma bit of an iPhoto Guru, Terence and i dont know how else to contact you and i know its niot right to change a thread half way through but do you have any knowledge on the best way to handle this situation:
i have my iphoto on my headless Mini, controlled by MBP remotely and within the same Wi fi network when home. Iphoto over both is unusably slow. How could i combat this? im told not to use the Mini Library via MBP sleected via ALT when opening as if WiFi drops out it can corrupt. If i use the Sharing from the iPhoto.Mini to MBP, iPhoto.Mini must be open therefore iPhoto.Mini on Sharing on MBP cant be editted, only viewed. The one utility that helps is the iPhoto Manager but all that essentially does is copy from one to another over WiFi so i dont see the difference in that app doing it or me manually doing it, TBH id rather manually do it.
And i need to store the iPhoto main DB at home as iTunes and my iPad use it while i'm not there, and its now too big to carry around on a 5 year old MBP.
I like a lot of others seem lost on how to effectively manage and use iPhoto

  • Iphoto events vs albums

If photos are deleted from events will they remain in the albums I created. I copied and pasted the pics from events into albums, and now want to delete the events so we don't have duplicates...

If photos are deleted from events will they remain in the albums I created.
    No.
iPhoto works on a similar Library based principle to iTunes. Every Photo is in the Library, each Album (like a playlist in iTunes) is a subset of the Library.
Events are the Library. They broadly correspond to the actual folders on the HD that contain the pics. Trash a pic from an Album, you remove it from the Album, but it's still in the Library. Trash a pic from an Event and it's gone from the Library and all the albums too.
I copied and pasted the pics from events into albums, and now want to delete the events so we don't have duplicates...
First off: don't copy and paste. Drag and drop is more reliable way to move photos around in the iPhoto Window.
Second: There are no duplicates. Albums simply reference the photos in the Library. A pic can be in 50 Albums with no duplication required, no extra disk space used. A photo in more than one Event requires a duplicate.
    For the benefit of nequetech
    This is not true:
Events in iPhoto are actually Albums.
    This is incorrect:
    They mean the same thing,
    As is this:
    unless you have older versions.
    This
If you were to delete the duplicates, I suggest you drag every picture from one event to a folder in your desktop.
is data destructive. You only get the current version of your photo, not the Original, you lose a lot of metadata as well.
This may be your preferred way to deal with duplicates, but Duplicate Annihilator is at least non-destructive - and I'm not at all sure that the OP actually has a duplicates issue at all.
    Regards
    TD
