IPhoto '11 Fixes Library Syncing Problem?

iPhoto '08 libraries didn't play well with Portable Home Directories, resulting in lots of syncing errors. (There's a lot of information about elsewhere.)
Has anyone had an opportunity to test iPhoto '11 with Portable Home Directories to see if the problem with syncing iPhoto library bundles has been fixed?
I've done some preliminary testing and, so far, it's actually looking pretty good. I haven't seen a sync error yet in my testing with 10.6.4 clients and a 10.5.8 server.
Anyone else?

I've had a good opportunity to test iPhoto '11 an PHD's.
IPhoto libraries that are pre-iphoto '11 don't work over PHD's, even once they have been upgraded. The home sync manager tries to copy the whole library on each sync back are fore to the client machine/server. I installed iPhoto '11 on the 10.6 server machine and this didn't fix it either.
When working with new iPhoto '11 libraries and PHD's I found the best method was to sync the library at login/logout. If iPhoto as opened (regardless whether changes were made) the Login/Logout sync was delayed for around 30 - 50 seconds before the client machine would continue.
I checked the the server's processes during the login/logout pause and I found that the mds process was working a little harder during this time, but only by up to 5% at the most. It seems that the Sync system is still having big problems with the iPhoto package file.
It seems to me that if Apple took the library back to a folder rather than a package and then hid the sensitive folders/files they didn't ant users to fiddle then this problem would be resolved.

"&" is not the obvious bug/answer. Not sure what went wrong as I cannot select albums and events for sync. Situation is worse for iPad and Apple TV when error 1140 message popped up even before backup get completed.

Download and install the iPhoto 9.4.1 update, which was just released today. It may be the answer to your problems:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1598
Be sure that neither iTunes nor iPhoto is running when you install the iPhoto 9.4.1 update. After installing the update, then restart iTunes and iPhoto. By default, "All photos" is selected. Change this (it's no longer grayed out) to "Selected albums..." and you should be OK.

  • IPhoto 9.6 library permission problems after loading Yosemite

I recently loaded Yosemite 10.10.1 and upgraded iPhoto to version 9.6.  Upon opening iPhoto, I get a message about library needs to be upgraded to work with this version.  I hit ok and then it fails with a message about unable to fix library.  I think my pervious version of iPhoto was probably about 2 years ago.  I do have a time machine back up but when I go to the the Photo/iPhoto.Library I don't get a restore option

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • "Photo Library" Syncing Problem

I have an iphone 5 and want to transfer the pictures off of it to a new iphone as this one broke. I can transfer the pictures that i have taken that are in the camera roll no problem. The problem is the pictures that were previously synced via itunes. I no longer have the pictures on the itunes to transfer back to the new one so the only copy of my 2000+ pictures is on this iphone. How would i go about transfering them over as iphoto, image capture and itunes all do not reconize these folders in my iphone. Thanks in advance for any and all help!!

I have one iPhoto library with around 7000 photos, filled in different Albums (around 250) within other folders in iPhoto.
I have tried resetting the iSync history, deleting the iPad iPhoto cache, resetting the iPad etc etc. I have tried to delete any corrupt looking photos and have managed to import the whole iPhoto library to the iPad by selecting to sync it when all the photos are placed in one folder.
I run an art gallery and have different folders for each artist's work. iPhoto is a fantastic tool for this and I have found the iPhone invaluable for showing clients paintings - the iPad should be even better. So it is crucial for me to keep the folders. I have now managed to sync all the folders (and photos) by placing all my artist albums in one folder and selecting that to sync. This works. But what doesn't work is when I select the default, and just sync the entire iPhoto library with Events et al. Then it crashes whilst the Photos App is "Updating Library" after the sync. Then I am left with a malfunctioning iPad which keeps reseting with the Apple logo and spinning wheel inside.
So I have found a work around but it is not exactly perfect - very annoying. Especially as my crappy iPhone 3GS syncs perfectly and can handle all of the folders .....although admittedly not the Events. I wonder if it is the Events that are the problem?

  • Has been fixed the sync problem of the key photo?

Hi! Since IOS 5 my iPad hasn't synced the key photo of the events from iPhoto.
I would like to know if Mountain Lion has solved this problem or any other update.
I have an iPad 1 so I can't update to IOS 6, so I hope it'll be a problem with iTunes or iPhoto....
    Thanks

    Thanks No1_Slumko.
The Bluetooth issue isn't a deal breaker for me. I am just surprised this isn't fixed so it must be a real problem for them maybe at a hardware level.
The music artist album thing is a fail though.
Just odd they had these things perfect on the N97 but S3 has broken them! (fixed everything else though.)
I still cannot get over how well this phone works in terms of its radios. Very strong clear voice comms, ultra fast GPS and reception, excellent FM reception, and the FM broadcast is a lot more clear than on my N97.

  • Itunes library sync problems. Purchased items only music that syncs.

Itunes library problems syncing. Purchased items from apple all syncing. Progressively losing ability to listen to my CD's I've loaded myself. ie: library music or store bought CD's. Some albums unplayable and some albums only a few songs playable. It's almost as if apple has decided that if I don't buy from them I won't be able to play it. New problem this week only. Cant fix despite frequent attempts to sync ipod. Library seems to be freezing or something at stage 7/7 of syncing items in library.

what computer are you using? if it a windows computer   make sure you update your itunes version to 11.1.2
are you able to play the songs from your computer?
try  this go to edti> preference> devices > at the bottom click the reset sync histore and  choose ok close itunes pull up a new one and try if it work

  • IPod Classic 160GB film library sync problem -  trying to sync films that have converted from purchased DVD to mp4 format locally, not purchases from the online store - all other libraries sync perfect - why?

Hello Apple and the iTunes Windows PC users community.
I am trying to sync films that I have converted from purchased DVD to mp4 format locally, not purchases from the online store. The mp4s all appear and play successfully in my iTunes application but will not sync across to the iPod film library folder.
For your information: I am using iTunes 11.1.3.8 on a Windows 7 64bit machine with 500GB hard disk and 8GB of Ram in the UK.
I have restored the iPod classic 160GB three times now to see if it was a hardware problem with no joy. Each time all the music restores properly as do the podcasts and all the items in TV programmes all appear to sync and work fine.
I have also tried to copy films into the TV Programmes to get around it with no joy. They always go to the films section to start with. It is just the Films library that does not sync - all others work perfectly. As a last resort I have uninstalled and re-installed iTunes with no joy either.
I am technically savvy and have gone through the itunes and ipod settings but nothing appears to make a difference - This is the first time I have had to post here as I can usually solve the majority of the ipod anomilies but this one has me flummoxed.
Has the film encoding type changed in the newest itunes update? - Has this happened to anybody else and is it a hardware, software, or operating system problem.

Having uninstalled the current version 11.1.3.8 and loaded and older version of iTunes 10.7.0.21 I can now categorically confirm that the newest update seems to be causing the problem as the films and TV Programmes are syncing perfectly on this older version.
If you are going to do this please dont forget to remove the  ' iTunes Library.itl' file as this stops the older versions from running as I've just found out

  • IPhoto 11 / MobilMe Gallery (sync) problems...

    I do have backups...
I did apply the patch before even opening iPhoto...
OK, so I updated one of 3 Macs to iPhoto 11 (including the recent patch, before ever launching iPhoto). Everything went smoothly... Until the Mac with iPhoto 11 began syncing with MobileMe Gallery... Now, my MobileMe Gallery has duplicates of every photo (1000's of them)... The local iPhoto libraries on all 3 Mac's (2 - iPhoto 09 and 1 - iPhoto 11) appear to be fine...
IF I WERE A BETTING MAN... I would expect that when I update the other 2 Macs to iPhoto 11 the problem will be worse with 1000's and 1000's of duplicates of all photos...
OR, EVERYTHING WILL BE OK and everything will sync back up...
Any thoughts (or takers) on this outcome?

I just really want to be able to allow photos to be uploaded to me somehow and have them automagically find their way back into the proper event in iPhoto.
Simply, this is not a feature at this time.
    For feature requests:
IPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback

  • Can I fix MPEG2 sync problem in QT7 Pro?

I have converted & compressed a bunch of VOB files (with ac3 audio) to MPEG2 files (with mp2 audio) using ffmpegX, but one of the file's audio track is out-of-sync, and the others are perfect.
I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason why it's out of sync, but I'm more worried about fixing it!
I have demuxed VOBs before so I could strip it down to the streams, rebuild it in QT7 and then compress it, but it's a lot of faffing around...
Can the audio track be 'nudged' in QT7 to get it in sync with the video track or is not as easy as that?
    TIA Lee

    Hi,
something weird has happend with my PS5. Before resizing went just fine. If I go to Image-> image size-> change the the resolution to 300 and size for example to 8x10 and Ok. Before that weird problem when I "ok" that information the rulers showed 8 inches x 10 inches, but now
it shows 2000x3000 which is the pixels not inches as I want. What happend and how to fix this?
    Thanks for help!
That is because your Photoshop Ruler Units somehow has been changed to Pixels. An Action or script might have done that. Also you must have checked the constraine option in the Image size dialog and are using a 3:2 Aspect Ratio camera image.  8X10 is a 4:5 aspect ratio not a 3:2 ratio.  When you set 8 wide then 10" high and 300DPI photoshop calulated what the width should be and set 6.667" because constrain was checked in the images size dialog when Photoshop set in 6.667" in the print with field you missed seeing that and remember you had entered 8".  With your Ruler Units set to Pixels visible Rulers would show your 3:2 is a portrait to be 2000px wide and 3000px high as would the upper section in the Image size dialog for file size.
When you entered 8" in the width field Photoshop Calulated 12" for the hight because of the constrain option and put that in the height field which you then over typed with 10" which cause Photoshop the change the width to 6.667...
Nothing weird has happend Photoshop is working as it should.... To set the default back to inches use menu Edit>Pereferences>Units & Rulers.. The use the units pulldown menu and select inches.....

  • Software 2.0.1 fixes repeat syncing problem

Refer to the following link for a discussion of the issue:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1446126&tstart=250
This issue has been fixed with ATV software version 2.0.1.
    Thanks Apple.
Unfortunately, I had spent 10 hours restoring, re-updating to 2.0, and syncing 50 gigs of content just one day before the 2.0.1 was released. The problem was still occurring whether I had used Auto Sync or Custom Sync with version 2.0.
BTW, the ethernet sync method (with ATV connected directly to the computer) didn't work with 2.0 either. Haven't tried with 2..0.1 yet.
    Ron

    Ian-
I followed the sync directions in this Apple link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305254
I used the part "If you can't connect ATV directly to your computer" (Mac). After starting the sync with wireless, then disconnecting and reconnecting ATV by ethernet to my G5, the ATV would not show up in the iTunes devices list. I checked that the network status had built-in ethernet active. (Airport was also still active). Did a restart & tried again, with no ATV device in iTunes.
Maybe you could offer some advice here. I don't have a 75' ethernet cable, and 8+ hours for 50 gigs is a lot of sync time.
    Thanks, Ron

  • HT1386 itunes music library syncing problem....  HELP!

As I try to sync my iphone, my music library does not transfer from my ipod to itunes on my PC.  can anyone help?

Moving music from Pod/iPad/iPhone --> CPU is not easy because of copyright issues (otherwise, you could simply put all of your friend's music on your CPU and never pay for it).
If you have paid for the music on your iPod...
    1. I recommend doing a Google search for iTunes...but spell iTunes backwards.
    2. Download and Install the application that is at the top of the search results.
The application's website will have further instructions on how to get music off of your iPod.
    All the best!
