IPhoto 11 is completely flawed.

Iphoto11  9.4.2 is an utter distaster! It will not sync in anyway and if you try  add a photo it just locks up. Has anyone else had this issue??? Are there any future updates in the works to resolve these problems? I have tried everything.

Fortunately I still have my iPhoto 09 disc, so I reinstalled it and finally I can update the pics from my iPhone and import/drag in pics from the Mac. Plus I can view them on my Apple TV.  I can't use the iCloud feature to update pics through WiFi but I can bring in pictures via WiFi by using DropBox on my iPhone (it's an awesome app). So I guess I am back on track although there is something seriously wrong with the latest iPhoto 11 update for me at least. I've read about so many other people having issues that hopefully Apple will address it soon. I've been an avid Mac user since my Quadra 605 back in 1995, but it seems to me things are more "buggy" than they used to be.
Anyway, thank you for your time and advice! Much appreciated.
Best regards,
Scott

I'm running iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5. My collection of 25,000  photos on iPhoto library is completely empty. How can I get them back?
I dragged one photo to the My Pictures folder in Finder. I knew it was just one photo because it was the only one highlighted in yellow. When I saw it in Finder, it was labled iPhoto. I thought it was the wrong picture, so in Finder I deleted the file. When I got back to iPhoto, EVERYTHING was missing. Events, photos, recent, and even trash. At this point, I went into my Trash. I searched for iPhoto and iPhoto was there. I opened it and it was still empty. All I want to do is to get my collection of photos back!

Best solution is to load your backup from before you did this?
Where did you drag the photo from?
Have you tried dragging it from the trash to the desktop?  What size is it?
What size is your iPhoto library in the pictures folder?

  • IPhoto library is completely frozen, and invisible

Hello, everyone. My iPhoto library is completely frozen, and invisible, despite several force quits and restarts. Any ideas? It is a big library, some 13.5GB, but this has never been a problem until now. I even attempted to restore the library from Time Machine.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • My iPhotos have disappeared completely.   How do I get iPhoto back?

My iPhotos have disappeared completely.   How do I get iPhoto back?

    1. Your Library should be in the Pictures Folder, not the Applications folder. Are you sure that you're not looking at the Application?
    2. If it is in the wring folder, move it to the Pictures folder. That's inly in the case of the Library not the application.
    3.
    Couple of things to try:
Restart your mac and try launch iPhoto again.
    If that fails:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a file called ‘iPhoto’Lock.data or similar. Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If not: Where is your iPhoto Library stored? If it's on an External Disk, what format is that?

Did you run the iPhoto Library Upgrader on your library? Just downloading it isn't enough.  Go to your Applications/Utilities folder and launch iPhoto Library Upgrader V1.1 and run it on your library.
Did you upgrade iPhoto to 9.6.1 via the App Store?  If so launch iPhoto 9.6.1 and open the library.

  • How to restore Mail and iphoto after a complete OS reinstall

    Hi
I have searched as best I can to see if anyone has asked the same question, but no luck.
I want to do a complete reinstall of Leopard. I have an external HD and have activated TM so as far as I know I have a full back up.
Once I reloaded the OS can i bring back my Mail set up as it is. By this I mean, is there a way to restore all my folders, emails and settings?
Also with iphoto, can i bring it all back in as it is now?
I fully understand how to get a file back using TM, it seems pretty easy, but applications seem a little more difficult.
Please can someone give me some advice on this.
    Many many thanks
    Stewart

So you intend to erase (or replace) your boot disk and install Leopard on it, right? After the installation finishes, you'll be asked to create your account etc etc etc. The very last step is you are asked if you'd like to use the Migration Assistant to restore from another Mac or TimeMachine. If you say yes the Migration Assistant starts up and you can choose your TimeMachine drive.
Here I'm fuzzy because I've not performed this step. I think you'll get the same options as you do if you migrate from another Mac - the choice of Applications, Files/Folder, or Library. If I'm correct, you choose what you want to migrate, start it, and walk away until it finishes.
Now I know this works because I did before I knew I could use the Migration Assistant with TimeMachine. After you get to the desktop you select TimeMachine and select the drive that has the backup. TimeMachine starts up and you can browse the folders and times until you find a folder/file you want to transfer. Select it, click on the Restore button down at the bottom right hand corner of the screen, and let it work.

  • IPhoto not launching completely

I haven't been able to access iPhoto for the past two days. I've been on the forums and seen others describe the same problem I'm having (see https://discussions.apple.com/message/15736289#15736289 )
    Here's what is happening:
    1) Open iPhoto
    2) Appears to launch
    3) Menu headings appear but no iPhoto interface ever appears
    4) Almost all menu options are grayed out including Quit
    5) Cannot quit iPhoto without performing force quit
    6) When attempting to reboot the entire computer, iPhoto will not quit unless I force quit
    Troubleshooting attempts that have failed:
-Checked to see if all iPhoto library contents are still intact. When I show the package contents for iPhoto and they are intact.
-Upgraded from 7.1.5 to the latest version in iLife '11 via App Store
-Uninstalled iPhoto app (as well as all pkg files in Receipts folder) and reinstalled
    -Trashed plist file
-Ran Disk Utility after booting from external drive. Repaired permission. Repaired disk.
    Troubleshooting that partially failed:
-Started iPhoto while holding down Option key
    -Created new library
-Had to force quit out of app
    -Restarted app
-Most options are no longer gray including Quit so I can quit the app
-But when I select a menu option such as Import to Library, the menus all go gray again except for Quit and a few others.
iPhoto never formally crashes so I don't have a crash report for diagnostic purposes.
Console Messages aren't much help either.
Before the clean reinstall of iPhoto I got the following:
Since reinstalling the app the only iPhoto related message that appears in Console Messages is:
    ([0x0-0x8b08b].com.apple.iPhoto[2965]) Exited: Terminated
The last step I can think of is a 10.6.8 system reinstall unless someone has other suggestions for troubleshooting

Hooray! I finally got a positive result thanks to your help, TD! Thank you so very much!
For the sake of documentation, here's what I did:
Based on the thread you directed me to I went to the User/Library/Preferences folder and found the following files:
    com.apple.iApps.plist
    com.apple.iPhoto.LSSharedFileList.plist
    com.apple.iPhoto.plist
I moved them to a folder on my desktop I created named "Preferences A".
Then I moved the AlbumData.xml from iPhoto there as well.
When I launched iPhoto it brought up an interface!
Next, it asked it prompt to upgrade in order to run
Then it advanced to "Writing new iPhoto library data..."
Finally, it advanced to "Updating library..." going through all the photo files already present in the library file
Once that was complete, the welcome screen for the updated iPhoto app came up along with all the photos I had in my original library
    Again, thank you TD!!!

  • IPhoto does not complete importing final image

So when using iPhoto *after last update of osx* My iPhoto will import however many pictures i have off my CF card, but when it gets to the *1 remaining* it just sits there and i have to force iPhoto to quit and then none of the pictures end up getting imported. I tried doing this with just a single picture import and the same thing happens. If there are 50 pictures it will get thru the first 49 pictures and on the 50th one it just sits there and never completes the import. Everything was fine before the latest OSX update.
    Thank you
    Chuckie.

    Chuckie:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try uploading the CF card to the desktop using Image Capture (located in the Applications folder). Then use the camera to reformat the card, not just erase but reformat. Then try again.
I'm not an advocate of having iPhoto do the importing from the camera and erasing the card. I prefer to upload (with a card reader) to a folder on the desktop where I can name the folder what I want the roll in iPhoto to be titled, and then drag that folder into the open iPhoto library window. This will save wear and tear on the camera's USB port and avoid bad uploads (and possible damage to the library) due to a low battery shut down during the import. Also there's been too many reports of incomplete uploads and complete erasures by iPhoto. Not a good situation to be in. It's just safer, IMO, to do the uploading and erasing of the card manually.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I am unable to checkout of iPhoto with my completed photo book, how come?

I have completed an iPhoto photo book, but when i go to buy it, it takes me to the checkout page. When I click check out however, nothing happens, and it will not let me proceed! All the pictures and text is there, nothing is missing from the pages, help!

There seems to be problem with Apple's Print services. We have reports from all over the world of people being unable to order books, cards, calendars.  Try again later.
See for example:   Re: Trying to buy  book I created. When I hit "checkout" nothing happens. It's not like Apple to not want to make more money. Any ideas?

  • Iphoto refusing to completely load

Once i opened my iphoto it claims to be loading but none of my photos ever show up. I don't know how to reboot it, I have quit it and shut down my computer several times, everthing else pulls up just fine, but Iphoto just refuses to load completely. Any ideas on how i can fix this?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphoto '08 database completely gone (including Originals folder)

My daughter was using Openoffice when her desktop background suddenly reverted to the default "blue burst" instead of a picture she selected from her iPhoto library. She opened iPhoto and all photos were gone. I looked in the iPhoto library and the Data, Originals, and Modified sub-folders do not exist. The AlbumData.xml file is basically empty (size 4kb).
It's as if iPhoto has completely wiped/reset it's database.
If this is the case, is that database dangling somewhere in the file system? Or are we out of luck?
And no, we do not have a backup - <begin rant> we have several TB of RAID NAS backup storage, used for backup of the other 4 (PC) machines in the house, but I have not figured out how to back up from a Mac. Timemachine does not work on NAS storage, it seems, and the Mac philosophy of "do-the-thinking-for-the-user" means that DIY backup is hard to figure out.<end rant>

Yes it is normal behavior. Those few clicks can really do lots of damage. Remember iPhoto is a database and for a database to work correctly it needs to know exactly where all the files it needs are. If one of these files gets misplaced or move the database has problems. People messing around in the finder is one of the mail reasons why Apple in Iphoto8 changed what consumers can see in the files. With iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Unix Style Package File. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
Old Toad's and TD's Standard Warning should be headed: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos. You can find out more info from this older discussion
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9040586#9040586
You also might want to check out Old Toad's software. He has some great ones, including his software that makes a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. That way if problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back.
    Good luck

  • I have uploaded photos to iPhoto but on completion my Mac crashed and the events are present but no photos remain. My iPhoto is managed version 11 9.4.3 (720.91)

Is there anythinh I can do to retrieve the pics? I uploaded from 2 SDHC cards, one of 230 pic (which I deleted from the card) and another of 1,200+ pic, which I did not delete.

a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos
Try Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

  • My iPhoto is Missing (completely)!?

I got a new MacPro at work and it was bare/stripped/empty. I installed OSX 10.6.2 from a snow leapord disk. Everything is fine and it works good except that iPhoto is no where to be found. I did searches looked, nothing that even says iPhoto. How do I get it? I use it all the time. Everything online seems to be an update. But I need the actual iPhoto???

iPhoto comes on all new Macs pre installed.
It does not come on OS upgrade disks
It is not available as a download
To reinstall iPhoto use the restore disks that came with the computer doing a custom install of bundled software only - click here for the MacWorld article on this with more details - or install from the upgrade disks yu purchased.

  • IPhoto won't complete calendar order, but does complete book order

I want to order a calendar I made in iPhoto 11, but everytime I get to the end of the upload this happens:
I've tried ordering it is safe mode, and with the firewall turned off - doesn't work. I've also tried reinstalling iPhoto and using a different AppleID - still the same result.
However, to test whether it was an issue with my account or with the photos I was using, I attempted to order a book that was filled with many of the same photos I used in my calendar and it went through perfectly! Why can't I get a successful order with the calendar?

Go to the Apple store to your account and reenter all of your account and billing information (do not just verify - reenter) - usually that will clear this up

  • IPhoto 08 Saturation Slider Flawed!

    Hi,
Has anyone else noticed that the Saturation slider in iPhoto '08 makes absolutely no sense? It doesn't behave like a Saturation slider. In both Apple's Preview and Aperture, the Saturation slider works exactly like it should, just like Photoshop. The Saturation slider ONLY adjusts the Saturation. In iPhoto '08 however, as soon as you increase the Saturation above the middle point, your photo starts getting DARKER. This would be kind of acceptable if some of the other Adjustment sliders started moving too, such as the Levels or Exposure sliders. But they don't.
Why have Apple done this? Why make a Saturation slider that ISN'T a Saturation slider? If they'd called it something else, it wouldn't be so bad. But Saturation is Saturation. They obviously know how to make Saturation sliders because they've got it right in both Preview and Aperture, but totally messed it up in iPhoto '08.

While you observation is correct, I believe that this is how the tool is designed to work and, in my opinion, gives much more naturally looking results than the saturation controls in Photoshop.
Try to increase the saturation to the maximum in iPhoto and then do the same in Photoshop. In iPhoto this will result in an image that’s punchier but still retains the original hues to a large degree. In Photoshop however you will end up with totally oversaturated/shifted colour hues that look cartoonish, a very blunt method.
iPhoto’s approach is way smarter, preventing you from distorting the colours and also note, that it preserves whites just as they were before.
If you don’t like the general darkening, simply drag the Levels’ mid-slider to the left to compensate for it.
