Iphoto 11 launch from dock, but never appear in Finder

I bought Ilife'11 and install Iphoto'9.
at the first launch of Iphoto, I was asked to upgrade to 9.1 (what I did with success).
At the first launch of Iphoto 9.1, from the dock or from the application file, the application starts, it appears as running in the activity monitor (100% of memory space) but nothing appear in the finder, even after 10 minutes or more.
The same problem exists with or without my Iphoto library.
I look at the forum: launch and repair permissions; I tried a lot of the proposed solutions (removing from the preference file); nothing works.
It's the first time that I got so many problems installing an apple application.
Anyone knows what to do?

Have you tried removing the DivX component from the HD/Library/QuickTime

  • My photos are not importing properly into iPhoto! They import successfully but never appear in my library!

Whenever I import photos recently they will be in the Last Import folder but when I click my photo library they are not in it. And then when I go back to last import they aren't in there anymore. I have already lost a lot of pictures since I always select the delete off of memory card option after importing. I think it is ever since I upgraded to Lion. HELP!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Safari will not launch from Dock but will launch if I open it from an email

I recently reinstalled my operating system and Safari worked fine for a day. Went to open it from the Dock today and it would not open. Click on link in an email and it opens and works fine. Have trashed the preferences file. What else should I do. The crash report has the below for the last entry when it doesn't open. Can I trash that?
    9753c000 /System/Library/Frameworks/DirectoryService.framework/Versions/A/DirectoryServi ce

    Hi Mike,
No, do not trash that file.
    Quit Safari if it's open.
    Locate this file. com.apple.launchservices.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences.
Drag that file to the Desktop.
Try to launch Safari from the Dock.
If that does not work, drag the Safari icon up off the Dock. It will go poof. (not a technical approach but that's what it does). Now go to your Applications folder and launch Safari from there. If it opens as it should, select the Safari icon in the Dock / Keep In Dock.
If you still have problems with Safari, go to ~/Library/Internet Plugins. Open the Internet Plugins folder. If there are files there, delete them.
To empty the cache memory go to the Safari menu and click 'Empty Cache'.
To Reset Safari go to the Safari menu and click 'Reset Safari". Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.

  • HT1688 My iPhone accepts messages from a straight talk phone, when sending a text it looks like it goes through but never appears on the straight talk phone

My iPhone accepts messages from a straight talk phone, when sending a text it goes through on my end but never appears on the straight talk phone. I'm having to use a secondary app that allows me to send a message that actually appears on the straight talk phone. I now have the iPhone 5 thinking it would fix the problem but it did not, and now that I have the 4G LTE it uses up my internet in a second.

The iPad doesn't do SMS text messges which are necessary to send messges to a regular phone.

  • I sent e-mail photos from iPhoto using my @me account but I do not find the history of sent e-mails in my new iCloud account. Where can I find the history of sent e-mails?

I sent e-mail photos from iPhoto using my @me account but I do not find the history of sent e-mails in my new iCloud account. Where can I find the history of sent e-mails?

Using iPhoto as the email client in iPhoto does not creatge a sent copy.  iPhoto indicates in the Info drawer if a photo was emailed by iPhoto (under the Sharing section):
There's no easy way to search for photos that have been emailed. Each photo has to be inspected via the Info tray.
One could add a keyword to emailed photos which would let a smart album keep track of those photos.
A better solution, IMO, is to set Mail as the email client (in iPhoto's General preference pane) and use it.  That will give you an sent copy, better access to your contacts and, if you want a theme, numerous photo themes under the Stationary section of Mail.

How does one remove temporary files from Safari?  A friend logged on to her Facebook account using my iMac running Mac OSX 10.7.5 and Safari 6.1.6.  Now I can't remove her e-mail address from my computer.  When I open Facebook her address shows in the user button.  I do not have a Facebook account.  It was suggested to me that I try clearing temporary files from Safari but I can't find anything that tells me how to do this.  Are temporary files the same as the cache?  It also was suggested that I try clearing Safari cache.  How do I do that?

Check Safari/Preferences/Passwords to see if the Facebook account is there. If so, select it and remove it. If you are still having problems, Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. If that doesn't work, Safari/Reset Safari.

  • IPhoto is on my dock, but won't open

iPhoto is on my MacBook Pro's dock, but it will not open.
When I click it a "?" appears on it, but that's it. Also the iPhoto icon is no longer in the Apps folder.
I didn't, at least not knowingly, delete the app. I don't have the disk needed to reinstall it on my mac. Is there any other way to get the app back without having to pay for it? If it was accidentally deleted or if something else caused the problem, it doesn't seem right to have to pay for it...again. Help!

A backup makes such a situation a minor annoyance rather than a big problem.  Open Spotlight and see if you can find it.  If not, replacement disks can be procured from Apple Customer Support.  Have your Mac serial number ready when you call and there is a charge.
    Ciao.

  • Applications won't launch from dock

I have recently had to re install tiger and was not able to use archive function so had to erase.
Most files etc were OK and was able to shift stuff around between the macs hard drive and an external storage device.
Lost of stuff got duplicated and I've been trying to sort out the mess!
I'm pretty well there now but have one last weird problem.
I can't launch the Word or Excell apps from the dock.
I've deleted and added them and also re installed the Office software but it still won't work.
I can open any of my Word or Excell files from the docs folder but the programme won't launch from the dock
    Any ideas?

What happens if you go to office preferences (from your pulldown menu with Word or Excel open) >> general >> "show project gallery at startup" and deselect that item?
It's also possible that it could be a font that Office does not care for. Try dragging ~(yourhome)/library/fonts to the desktop and logging out and back in or restarting.

  • App aliases beep when launched from Dock

Recently, my rMBP has started beeping (System Alert) when I launch apps that are aliases from the Dock.  If I just put the app in the Dock, no alert when launching it.  But if I make an alias of an app (say, for a collection of apps, like the Adobe Suite, or Internet related apps) in a folder, and drag the folder to the Dock so that I can launch any of the apps in that collection, the app will launch, but I get the beep/System Alert.  For the life of me I can't figure out why, and it only recently started doing this in the last month or so...was fine before.  I can't figure out why, and haven't had any luck Googling the issue.  Has anyone had this happen to them before, or have an idea what could be causing it?

From my experience playing with the Thrive, when you attempt to watch a media file, it will open a menu asking you what application to use. From that popup, you can set a default.

  • Tries to load a page from site but never loads, Then need to close Mozilla and reopen it. Told that it is already running, not, then often have to do a hard turn off to shut it down. Why is this happening, and what can be done?

This happened many times today. There is no specific page. I usually have a page open and try to redirect from that page. It shows "connecting", but never does. I have run many scans which all turn up clean. Why is this happening and what can be done to fix it?

  • IPhoto problem.  LarryHN, thanks, but I can't find a "reply" button.  raybd

discuusion started yesterday.  thanks LarryHn, but I can't find a reply button.  raybd

I have just completed Library First Aid > rebuild database.  I still have some important photos that are there in thumbnail but don't load.
Ray, you said, that you did the "Rebuild" from the "First Aid"?
What in layman's terms does "Master folder" mean?  And "rebuild"? And "link"?
Your iPhoto library - in layman's terms" stores database files, that describe the edits done to your photos, and the relations between photos, how they relate to events albums, books, other products.
For each photo exist an original image file, that is the file you imported, a preview of the edited version, and a thumbnail to be displayed in the Browser.  When you edit a photo, iPhoto will store the sequence of edits so far - enhance the contrast, straighten the horizon, etc. When you want to display the image or edit it further, iPhoto will look for the original image file (it should be stored in the folder "Masters" inside the library package). Then it will create a copy of the original file and apply all edits to this original file and display it in the browser as the edited version. If the originals are missing or iPhoto cannot find them, editing will be impossible and you will see only exclamation points, when you try.  The database files describe, which edited version, thumbnails, and original files belong together. That is the "link" I have been referring to.
Rebuilding recreates the iPhoto library from the originals and the edited versions in the iPhoto library package and tries to pair them again with the thumbnails you are seeing in the browser.
Ipresume that I have to buy a Photo Library Manager, or at least download a free trial.  Might that introduce yet more complications?
iPhoto library manager has been known to be able to rebuild the library in quite a few cases, when the First
Aid failed. You can do this with the free version.
Only, if your originals are really missing, this will not help.
Then try, if you can at least drag the thumbnails from the iPhoto window to the Desktop, to save the preview images.

  • Programs won't launch from Dock or Applications.

has anyone seen this problem; I click on a program in the dock and the black triangle appears showing it is to launch, but the black triangle flashes two or three tims and then disappears. the program never runs. i am having this problem on one of 9 G4 computers running 10.3.9. it only happens with Safari, Peak Express 4 and install files compressed with stuffit.

If you have updated the software then the original icon in the dock may not work.
    Try this:
    1. Click on the Macintosh HD
    2. Click The Applications Button.
    3. Find the application you wish to open
    4. If the application icon bounces in a different place to normal then Ctrl click on that Icon and choose "keep in dock"
    5. Drag the old icon of the dock on to the desktop, It will go up in a cloud of smoke.

  • Bounces in the dock, but never opens?

Lately my iMac seems to be having errors or something where I can't open any application, it just bounces in the dock and sits there. It doesn't affect the applications that are already open, but once I've quit they're gone. That forces me to restart to get my computer functional again, but in order to do that I have to press and hold the power button because it won't shutdown by itself. All the menus go away and it seems like its going to...but it just sits there like an expensive brick. Anyone know how to fix this?

    Hi--
You have Directory damage to your hard disk. There are two programs that can fix this:
    Disk Utility
    Alsoft Disk Warrior
If you have an Intel Mac, you must use the first one. Start from your Mac OS X Install Disc and run Disk Utility. Select your hard drive at the left, and choose "Repair Disk".
If you have a PowerPC (G3, G4, or G5) buy Disk Warrior. It is much more robust than Disk Utility and is much more effective. Refer to the product documentation that comes with it.
If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

  • I uploaded several photos of mine to put on facebook. The uploading completed, but never appeared on facebook......

Just below the tools bar is a "verified by digicert inc." which takes me to a security lock, which I assume is my photo album that somehow never got to facebook. I cannot unlock it. Facebook help section suggested I go to tools options, click exceptions in load images auto, then highlite facebook website, then remove site and close. I did this, but nothing happened. I am new to uploading photos, so I need HELP......

Thank you Klaus1.The large font, I copied and pasted from my mail box.I'm visually impaired...not to a huge degree but it helps to use the large font.I believe you are right about the copyright on the imac stuff but if facebook decide otherwise, you have to reply electronically to their challenge. If you can't provide a reference directly from the copyright owner then they remove the video.I believe this is a programmed response and no human is involved which now makes it impossible for me to get my video uploading restored. They detect added soundtrack automatically and then challenge. There are many others in the same boat and facebook will not communicate. They have various discussion sites on which I have left messages including Mark Zuckerbergs own facebook but I don't think anyone from facebook ever reads them.I intend to start a second facebook which I can use purely to get my videos uploaded as a lot of my friends enjoy them BUT don't want fall foul of their programming again. If only iMac would put something on the net to this effect.I think it is so unfair that with modern technology it is impossible to contact these large conglomerates personally and receive an email response.I tried emailing [email protected] but I got a failure notice. If you have any ideas on how to get verification from apple direct, I would be very grateful.Thank You.

  • I purchased mountain lion from apple but never got a disk. How do I install it on my new hard drive, old hard drive failed and is not recoverable according to Apple and Recovery Specialist?

I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro with newly installed SATA HD + SSD, I can get mavericks download free but I can't recover photos, apps, files etc from time machine (1TB Time Capsule), I think I was running lion when I started backing up on it but I had updated to mavericks before the HD Failure. When I tried to transfer info from Time Capsule it says " no volumes detected" or something to that effect. I had mucho info backed up on that capsule. Any help appreciated, please spell it all out for me if you can help, I am not at all tech savvy and desperate to get up and going as I am an online student with a fast approaching deadline for course paper. Thank you in advance :)

Step 1: Buy a new Hard drive that can be installed in your MacBook Pro later, and an External enclose to place it in for now.
The MacBook Pro before 2010 can not contain the stand-alone firmware to go to the Internet and get a fresh copy of Mac OS X and install it.
You will need a working Recovery_HD, or to drop back to a 10.6 DVD (if it will Boot on your Mac).
There may be a functioning Recovery_HD on your existing Boot Drive. If you were running 10.7.4 or later and Time Machine, there may be a Recovery_HD on the Time Machine Volume.
    To check:
Hold down the Alt/Option key as you restart. This will slowly draw a gray screen and then add an Icon (over several minutes) for each potentially-bootable volume. If any Recovery_HD shows up, take it, and you will be able to get to Internet Recovery and re-download some version of Mac OS X that can be installed on a new drive.
It is generally far quicker to set up a new drive and install Mac OS X than to struggle with only the primitive tools available only on a DVD or a Recovery_HD. Once you get any version of Mac OS X running, you can get some work done and attempt to salvage first your data, then your drive (if either will be possible).
By NOT trying to Boot from and use the possibly-damaged drive, you improve your chances of being able to salvage some files off it, since blocks will not be over-written by running Mac OS X from it.
