IPhoto 11 library on Ubuntu  not working

Hi All,
I have been using iPhoto '10 with the actual library stored on an ubuntu server (accessed via iPhoto on a Macbook and Macmini).
I just upgraded to iPhoto '11 and it says it can't access the library because it doesn't support the file system (presumably because the photo library is saved on an ubuntu server but I'm not sure). Is anyone aware of iPhoto '11 not accessing ubuntu?
More importantly, does anyone know how I can fix this or revert to iPhoto '10 now I've installed '11?
Thanks,
jlb1717

iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.
This is true of all versions of iPhoto. The fact that it ran in 09 (and there was no iPhoto 10) was pure luck. It could fail at any time.
Workaround: Create a dmg appropriately formatted and put the Library on that. Store it on your Server.
You can easily revert to 09 using Time Machine, or manually as long as you have an 09 Library.
But one day that library will fail if you store it on an inappropriate disk.

  • IPhoto Library Upgrader is not working for me.

I am running a Mac Mini 2.5 GHz Core i5.  (This is the base model of the current Mac mini as of August 2013.)  Running 10.8.4.
I am trying to get iPhoto to run with an old photo library from iPhoto 4.  (Yes, really.  It's a long story.)  I was happy to see that Apple put out iPhoto Library Upgrader, because I was expecting to have a hard time upgrading.  But it's not working for me.  I downloaded the Upgrader and ran it (several times).  However, when I try to start iPhoto from the old library, I still get the "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared."
To save you from asking the obvious questions:
    1.  I ran the Upgrader, instead of just downloading it.
    2.  I am sure I selected the old library to be upgraded.
    3.  The Upgrader runs, tells me it's done, and asks me if I want to launch iPhoto.  When I say yes (or when I just launch iPhoto separately), I get the error message again.
    4.  iPhoto will not let me launch with the command option keys pressed.  I still get the error message.
    5.  I can launch with the option key pressed, but if I select the old library, I get the error message.
    6.  I can import the old library, but then I lose all my organization of photos.
    Any ideas will be appreciated.
    Nathan

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and try to open the "upgraded" libraryu again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • IPhoto 9.4.3-keyword "" not working correctly in smart albums

Every May I work on the 5th Grade recognition slideshow (using Keynote) for our 5th grade students.  In iPhoto, I always give photos the checkmark keyword after I've placed that photo so that I know it's been added/used.  I have many smart photo albums with keywords like "5th graders 2012-2013" and others like the checkmark.
None of the smart albums seem to be recognizing and using the checkmark even though it's one of the smart album criteria.  For example, I have a smart album called
"5th grade-already used" which has the criteria Match All:  Keyword is "5th graders-2012-2013" and Keyword is "✔".  However, even after giving some photos the checkmark keyword, this smart album shows up empty.
Similarly, I have another smart album called "5th-Still to use" which has criteria Match All: Keyword is "5th graders-2012-2013" and Keyword is not "✔". The photos that I've placed the checkmark on are STILL showing up here.
These smart albums have always worked before.  Has anyone else noticed issues with the checkmark keyword not working properly?  It has to have happened with an update sometime in the past year.

When I went to open the library using iPhoto Library Manager, it had to upgrade the library to work with this version of iPhoto.
    That's normal.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How do I de-install iPhoto 11 as it is not working

How do I de-install iPhoto 11 from my computer?  It is not working; just bought it and want to go back to original iPhoto that I had on my computer before installing.  Please help as I can't get into it and can't save any photos or get to my photos.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the
    Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • Iphoto remove photos from iphone not working

For the past couple months iphoto will not delete the photos from my iphone. It successfully imports them, prompts to delete, appears to delete but doesn't actually remove them. They are still on my iphone. iphoto recognizes that they have already been imported and asks to delete them again the next time I plug in my phone, I accept, looks like something is happening but they are still there. I've tried image capture as well and there is no way to delete off the phone in image capture. Help!?

Can it be, that you have enabled iCloud Photo Library (Beta) on your iPhone with iOS 8.1.3?  Then you can import photos from the phone, but deleting from Image Capture or iPhoto will not work, if the photos are in iCloud Photo Library.

  • Can I import photos to iPhoto if my touchscreen is not working?

I was just on vacation in Costa Rica and my phone broke there. The touchscreen does not work at all. When it stopped working my phone was in airplane mode and not connected to WiFi... I tried to restart it and nothing works. I am really hoping I can upload my photos to my iPhoto so I don't lose everything from my trip... I have made an appointment at the Genius bar but it isn't for a few days so I am hoping someone can help me in the meantime? Thanks.

Possibly if you both of your devices support iCloud, you have an iCloud account and you have Photo Stream set up on both devices.  Set up correctly all photos taken by the iPhone will go into its Photo Stream and be imported into your iPhoto Library automatically. • Iphoto batch edit keyboard command not working

Using Lion 10.7 Iphoto 11 I find that the shift+cmd+B keyboard shortcut ( Batch Edit ) is no longer working on multiple or single photos.
    Help from anyone pls....
    Thx,

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • On iphoto my stop import is not working and the force quit does not work either

please help - the stop import and force quit on iphoto both not working. thx!

This happened to me today on the iPad; I put in the password 4 or 5 times. I began to think my account had been hacked. I tried again on my iPhone and it worked first time. Then I tried again on the iPad and same thing—worked first time. Maybe just a temporary glitch in the server?

  • Encore Library installation will not work

I have seen people's posts regarding their issues with downloading the library and content for encore. I am in the same boat, and all of the solutions that people are providing are simply not working. I have practically memorized the download page on adobe. I have upgraded to the CS4, and there are 2 download manager files to download, and within each of those files is 2 other files: an exe and a file ending with 'z'. I have downloaded and extracted every one of these downloads at least 5 times, and I feel like I am wasting my time redownloading something that did not work the first time.
Someone please help me with this, I am a videographer far behind on my schedule and I need this resolved right away. I have read through the FAQ's, and have seen other threads, so reposting or redirecting will only keep me going in circles.
Anyone's help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!
    -Rick Phillips

OK, let's try this. The files with the "z'" archived files in the 7z format, basically similar to the more familiar ZIP files. These need to be Extracted, including their entire folder structure. At one time, a user needed to download the 7z utility, but I believe that most OS's will now handled the Extraction, with just a Dbl-click on the file in Windows Explorer. If not, the free QuickPAR should handle most of these. This was done, when Premiere/Encore went back to X-platform, as WinZIP would not work on a Mac, but 7z would work on both platforms.
Remember, when prompted, make sure that you Extract the full folder structure. This should be the default. I always Extract to a separate Temp folder, and install from there.
Good luck, and please let us know how it goes.

I am using a toshiba laptop and the shuffle function in my Itunes library does not work. It's the weirdest thing I have other computers and do not have this problem. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this problem or knows a way to correct this problem. Thanks in advance.

    hiya!
just checking. have all the wee check boxes to the left of your music tracks in your main itunes library window been unchecked? that can produce similar symptoms.
to check (or uncheck) all the songs in your library, hold down Ctrl and click on one of the boxes. (a "global" check or uncheck may take a wee while.)

Can you view the photos normally at full size?

  • My thumbnails in iPhoto 9.2.1 are not working

Hello. It has been a while I haven't been into discussions. but my library ceases working. My thumbnails are not working and now I realized neither are the pictures. I show the total number of photos in each album, but there is nothing there. Also, I tried all the options on the launch with opt+command keys. I used to get help from Old Toad. Are you still around?
    Thank you, Mila Mayer

  • IPhoto and other iLife Apps not working

About a month ago I was having serious problems with my iMac. Ended up needing a new hard drive, so Apple sent it away, put in a new hard drive, and sent it back. I've had it for two weeks and am just now using some applications (probably should have checked everything when I got it back, oh well), and some iLife stuff and programs that come installed are not opening. I am running Mac OS X 10.4.11 FYI
What works: Mail, Safari, iChat, Address Book, Itunes, iMovie, iCal, Quicktime
What doesn't work: iPhoto, iDVD, Garageband, iWeb, Photo Booth
Just a note, iWeb is the only one that prompts me and tells me that I need to re-install iLife. When I went to download latest iLife update it told me there was nothing to update and I needed to reinstall iLife.
Also just went into the applications folder again and realized I have both Spaces and Time Machine installed, except they do not work with my OS, so I don't know why they are on there (when I try opening them just to see what would happen it says "does not work with your OS X). Also, Senuti and iPodRip also are not working, so anyone have any ideas as to programs that would let me get my music off my ipod and back on to the computer?
The programs that don't work just bounce out of dock once then go back down immediately, and do not open at all. I tried installing the software bundle package from my OS X install disk but while the install was seemingly successful it did not change anything. So AAGGHH what do I do???
    Thanks in advance!

I have the Core 2 Duo in the white case, released late 2006. Definitely have been running Tiger on it (just checked and I am running 10.4.11), sent it away, got it back, and just noticed that these programs don't work and I have programs native to Leopard inexplicably on the computer for some reason. I don't really want to remove them though cause I would like to have them on in case I have to go to the Apple Store so I can point it out to them and ask some questions about why Tiger (the OS installed on the computer) applications are not working while Leopard applications are installed even though they don't work and shouldn't be on there.

  • IPhoto OS Error 54 Videos not working but still work in Finder

    iPhoto Version 9.5.1. (902.17)
    OS - Mavericks 10.9.5.
    iMac, 2.66 Ghz Intel Core i5, 8GB 1067 Mhz DDR3
A couple weeks ago I was unloading my iPhone 5 and my wife's iPhone 5 to the MAC so that we could get our iCloud backups under 5GB.  I imported all the videos and photos that didn't automatically import and then deleted them off my phones.  I've done this many times before to no issue.  I ran into some issues with my wife's phone which hadn't had an import in a long time (and she's not on the same icloud account as me so EVERYTHING on her phone had to import).  I ended up having to pull her photos and videos off of a backup on the iMac that I created in iTunes right before the failed import.   I then manually took the photos and videos from a Finder folder and imported them into iPhoto.  All of the pictures imported, but none of the videos did because of an error (don't remember the error code for this one).   I was able to import those videos into iMovie so I considered that a win.
But now I realized I have a years worth of videos in iPhoto that are just no longer working.  This includes videos that I imported before the iPhone 5 purges.  They show up as a blank thumbnail and when I click on them I get the OS Error 54.   Now, I was able to find these videos on my hard drive and they work just fine.  Though, they're not all importing to iMovie either.
I know the suggestion is probably to restore a backup.   But, I feel like I'm going to lose files one way or another if I try that.
Anyone have any other tricks to make these videos start working again in iPhoto?
    Thanks!

    Try this:
Launch the Terminal and at the prompt paste
    sudo /usr/libexec/xpchelper --rebuild-cache
It will ask for your password. Type it in (but remember it won't show it to you) and hot return.
Quit the Terminal and restart iPhoto.
