Iphoto 11 renaming a face

Hi all,
wonder if someone can help me do a relatively simple thing!
I have iPhoto 11 and have a couple of hundred pictures imported, most of these are of my children and I have added their faces to the Face Corkboard. Alls fine except one of the names for some reason hasn't got a capital letter at the beginning!
OK, yes I know its really picky, but its not so much about changing this, but more a case of finding out how to do it now!
I've clicked to edit the name, however when I put the capital letter in to replace the lower case letter, it defaults to the lowercase and saves! Its got me pulling my hair out as it should be such an easy thing to do!
Would someone please be able to tell me where iPhoto gets its face names from and how to update this.
Many thanks

If you've not already found it, I found the answer under a slightly different problem but ....
On Faces select the one you want to rename and double click it.
on the next screen with all their pictures just click on the name on the top of the screen and overtype
Worked for me anyway

  • How can I stop iPhoto from reidentifying faces I have already 'crossed', while still being able to identify and sort new faces.

iPhoto has detected faces of people I dont know, in my 'iPhoto faces' whenever I click the cross in the corner of the face (when sorting faces) the face temporarily disappears, but once I have uploaded a fresh batch of photos (and want to identify new faces) it automatically re-identifies the old photos that I don't want to have to sort again. How can I stop iPhoto from reidentifying faces I have already 'crossed', while still being able to identify and sort new faces.

Thank you, that makes sense (I think!) However, I need to be able to tell iPhoto who the people identified in my photos are, does that make sense? How do I identify the people in my new photos without clicking 'find faces'. I know that button searches through my photos to find faces, but it also gets me to the place where I identify the faces as my friends and family, is there a shortcut to get to that place without clicking 'find faces'? That is what I really need, please help!!

  • Is there any way to force iPhoto to present faces by folder for identification rather than randomly?  Would provide better context for identification especially if a huge number of images is involved.

    Before I commit the time and energy required to load and tag faces in 25,000 images within iPhoto, I need some questions answered;
Is there any way to force iPhoto to present faces by folder for tagging rather than randomly?  When so many images need tagging, over many years, the context of a folder helps with the identification. The work around is to load the images into iPhoto one folder at a time and do the tagging then.
How do I get iPhoto to present the tagged faces by last name rather than first name? When so many faces will be identified, it is much easier to find people by surname, particularly when I share the library within the family. The work around is to enter names as last name and first name.  Being able to toggle the sort is much more desireable.
Is there a way to export a portion of the library including faces?  I want to pass on portions of this huge 125 GB library to my family members.
Since my family members will need an Apple computer to view the images and faces, they will likely have their own photo library.  So is there any way to combine two libraries and merge the faces?
About 2/3 of my images have been scanned, so the date of creation is the scanned date rather than the date the photo was taken.  Will this mess up any sequencing or the retrieval of faces?

If I want to carve off part of a library, I presume the way to do this is to make a copy of the library using PLM then go into iPhoto and delete what I don't want.  The result is the carved off portion.
You don't need Library Manager to delete the portion you don't want.
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
If I want to merge two libraries, PLM implies that it will do this but will the Faces be merged too?
    I believe so.

  • How do I teel iPhoto to ignore faces in an album?

I have a couple albums with a lot of photos and I do not want iPhoto to find the faces in them.  To take them out individually takes too long.  Is there any way I can tell iPhoto to ignore faces within an entire album?

That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.

just some notes in addition to Ralphs answer: Your iPad is very useful to browse and show off your photos, i.e. the Retina iPad. You can sync to the iPad via iTunes or using the Photo Stream or a shared Photo Stream.  But if you can browse and store all your photos on the iPad, will depend on the available storage on your iPad. Using iTunes you can sync events, albums, faces stacks, places stacks to your iPad. Not many metadata tags will transfer however.

  • How do I stop iPhoto from identifying faces.  It is a pain and takes up too much space on my computer!!!

Every time I open up iphoto, new faces are generated.  In fact I delete these "faces files" and they come back!  Help me to stop this insanity.  It is a very bad feature of iphoto.

These faces are appearing in the iPhoto Window ?

Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Please help iPhoto library problems - faces, facebook etc.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but iPhoto 09 has never worked very well for me. When I first started to use iPhoto 09 I went through my library to tag everyone so they came up in the faces thing. I had to add lots of missing faces because it didn't detect many. Then it merged lots of the faces together under one face name and also lost most of the ones I had tagged. I was really annoyed because this took me ages and I read on the forum that others were having problems so I decided to leave it for a while. I also had a huge problem uploading to facebook. When I made an album to upload it would start but then my internet would go off and then iPhoto just crashed. Whenever I touch any of the facebook albums iPhoto just crashes. After a couple of updates I started to think these features might be working better so I decided to sort out my library. I started to sort out the faces thing where they different people had been merged. I went through and added lots of missing faces. When I went back to check these photos the names I had added disappeared from the photo. I tried about 10 times and each time they disappeared on the same photos. Facebook was still crashing so I deleted all of my facebook albums which took ages because it kept crashing. Now it has duplicated an event and put it under a blank name and a different date. When i try to delete the photos they stay there and when I try to merge the folders that are the same, another event gets put in the folder of the same date, creating different duplicates. I don't understand what i'm doing wrong and I'm so scared of losing photos and all of the things like dates and order etc. Can anyone tell me why i'm having all of these problems? I think i need to rebuild my libary but I don't know how and i'm scared of losing photos or dates, or names or places or faces. Sorry such a long post, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's likely that your Library database has been damaged in all the crashing.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Anyone know where IPHOTO keeps the faces names

I used IPHOTO faces so I could print sets of photographs by person - to send out to those who did not have a copy.
These are scanned in pictures - which include people it took awhile to match up.
As you cannot print the pictures with the legend of who everyone is - wondering if anyone has figured out where the database is.
Guess it would be person, picture ID, Location on screen - and if there is a way to get to it.

As you cannot print the pictures with the legend of who everyone is
You can print the photos in Contact Sheet view with a legend.
If you open each faces stack and assign a keyword with the name of the person to the faces in the stack, you then can print the keyword below each face.
    For example:

  • IPhoto not showing faces

I really like using the Faces feature in iPhoto, but when I tried to use it today, this is all that shows up.
(I had to block out some menus on the side because they contained personal names)
I have tried to repair the library several times, but with no luck.
Any ideas on how to fix would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,

    What options did you choose?

  • Why is my iphoto renamed iphoto (original)?

Recently when I ran TimeMachine on my MacBook Pro I tried to retrieve an older version of iphoto because I had some missing pictures. When I retrieved it from Time Machine it renamed it iphoto (original) and now I can't get the software update.

Because at some point you had two versions of the app (after the restore), and it stopped one overwritng the other.
You can rename the app like you can any file.

  • Is the library in iPhoto renamed?

1)is the library renamed in iphoto..can not find it
2)and if there are duplicates in other places is there a find duplicate command as in contacts?
    3) am i correct that same pix resides in the library & in albums if so directed
therefore two of the same exist on the mac
    4) do you always want to keep them in the library..(if i ever find it.).if they are backed up elsewhere? is it        necessary

1)is the library renamed in iphoto..can not find it
Please explain - unless you have "renamed" the iPhoto library it has not been renamed. What exactly are you trying to do?
2)and if there are duplicates in other places is there a find duplicate command as in contacts?
There is no find duplicates command - again what exactly are you trying to do?
    3) am i correct that same pix resides in the library & in albums if so directed
therefore two of the same exist on the mac
No - albums are just pointers to photos in the library - no matter how many albums you add it to there is only one photo
    4) do you always want to keep them in the library..(if i ever find it.).if they are backed up elsewhere? is it        necessary
If "them " is the photos then yes it is strongly recommended that you keep them in the library  - and is a backup necessary - yes if you value your photos - - if you do not have a backup you will lose all of your photos  a(and other files) someday - hardware, sortware and humans fail and a good backup is your portection against these failures

  • IPhoto 11 Ignore Faces keyboard shortcut

    Hi everyone,
I am using iPhoto 11 for the first time.  I'm sorting through tons of faces using the Library -> Faces -> Find Faces feature.  I like the ease with which I can start labeling the people in my pictures.  I have one question though, and I have done some internet searches, including one here in the Apple Support Communities (I'm hoping things have changed in iPhoto since the last person asked this question).
I am trying to label my photos using Find Faces with my keyboard rather than my mouse.  It's much faster for me to tab from one photo to the next and label them.  One thing I can't seem to do however is use a keyboard shortcut to ignore a face.  I'm forced to move my mouse pointer to the black x and click.  It slows the process down quite a bit.  Is there a shortcut for this?  I'd dearly love to be able to get through these 4000+ photos quickly using my keyboard rather than with a bunch of tedious pointing and clicking.
         Thanks muchly,
              -Dustin

I actually just left feedback asking for better workflow.
I'm a bit frustrated by the current solution too.
My suggestion was actually to use coverflow to automatically scroll through them.
Then all I have to do is hit 'Y', 'N', 'space' (to ignore) as each automatically scrolls by.
Or perhaps use the arrow keys:  Thumbs UP, Thumbs DOWN, left/right to skip or navigate.
(I wish I could work for them, I could do wonders with that company.. :-)

  • IPhoto albums and faces

    Hi,
So about a month ago I created a smart album in iPhoto and set it up to sync with my iPhone. It worked perfectly. However, a couple of days ago, I started updating the "Faces" of my photos and from that moment on my iPhone not only synced the desired album, but also a new album named "Faces" in which appear the exact same photos from the desired album. Moreover, the "Faces" album is categorized or separated in the names of the people that appear in the original album.
Just to make sure I made my point:
    - At first I only had one album called "Album1" in which I had photos of John, Jack and Amy. Now, out of nowhere, I have "Album1" and "Faces" which itself is divided in 3 albums named "John", "Jack" and "Amy" and they all contain replicates of the photos in Album1 in which each person appears.
I haven't been able to find the setting that enables this or disables this. Does anyone know how can I avoid this from happening?
    Thanks,

Yea, you're right about not being nested albums; its more like you said, a folder named "Faces" with 3 albums, each with the name of the people. I'll try to explain through screenshots... changed names to Ross, Joey and Chandler to make it easier to find photos.
So first here's Album1 in iPhoto... 9 photos, Smart Album created from keyword: Friends and all faces assigned.
Now here are iTunes settings. Only Album1 selected to sync. No "faces" are selected to be synced.
Now here's my iPhone... Smart Album is there, just like intended. But there is also a "Faces" folder, and that folder contains the 3 people that appear in the Smart Album even though I don't want iPhone to sync those faces since they are duplicates!
That's the issue... too weird for me. Don't even know if this is iPhoto, iTunes or iPhone... sounds more on iPhoto's side, but don't know...

  • IPhoto stopped recognizing faces and won't even let me add people/faces manually. What now?

Nothing specific happend. The "Search people" button stays grey and if I try to add people/faces I can write there names in the box but iPhoto won't keep the information. Means: it doesn't add the photos to a person's picture collection neither does it create a new person.
I am kinda scrwed because I need it for work and started using it and halfway-through it just stopped doing anything.
I restarted the MacBook, iPhoto,.. but nothing helps.
    is this a common problem?
    How can I fix it?
Pleeeease help be as quickly as possible!
    Thank you so much!
