Iphoto '11 saves all my photos 4 x's ?

I have folders for Original and Modified and Master and Preview with all of the same content.  Can I delete the original and modified folders since Master and Preview are basically the same?  Will this do any damage?

NO!
Never make any changes of any sort to the content or structure of the iPhoto library - If you do it will corrupt yoru library and cause data loss  --  it is a really bad idea to be rooting around inside the iPhoto library - there are no user serviceable parts in there and any error on your part can create problems - it is best just to stay out of it - there almost never is any reason to go inside of the iPhoto library
And there are no duplicates in the library structure - there is an original copy of the photo and a small thumbnail - IF any edits of any sort have been made then there is a modified version - these are all different versions - no duplicates

Be careful, when you connect the iPhone to your mac, unless you have saved the photos. Synced photos may easily  be accidentally deleted by syncing again. And do not enable iCloud Photo  Library (Beta), that will erase synced photos as well.  Synced Photos are not included in the device backups.
Set your iTunes Preferences to "Devices > Prevent iPos, iPhones, iPads from syncing automatically".  Otherwise iTunes may launch and sync your iPhone with an empty iPhoto library the moment you connect it.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to sync the synced photos back. Apple recommends to mail them back, but that would be a lot of clicking (iTunes: Syncing photos - Apple Support). You could also share them to a Shared Album, but a third party app like TD recommended, will be better.

  • When I open Iphoto, I see all my photos for a second and then they disappear and only a white dotted box appears.  Then I click on it and for photos is a triangle with an exclamation point.  It doesn't happen to all but quite a lot. how to I get them back

Have you recently deleted photos using the finder or run clean up software?  Is so restore your backup
If not the backup your iPhoto Library and launch iPhoto while depressing the option and command keys. Rebuild your database

  • I have just installed iPhoto 11 and all of photos on my iphone have now all disappeared and ended up in my photo stream and the library in iphoto does not display all my pictures?? Can anyone help?

I have just installed iPhoto 11 and all of photos on my iphone have now all disappeared and ended up in my photo stream and the library in iphoto does not display all my pictures?? Can anyone help?

And I cant work out why all of my pictures are not diplaying in iphoto?
Is this iPhoto on your Mac?  Are you referring to the photos that were in your iPhoto LIbrary prior to the upgrade to iPhoto 11?  If so then apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If that's not what you're referring to then you should describe what is happening in more detail. Remember we can't see your Mac or your iPhone so need detailed and accurate descriptions of what you're experiencing.
Also we need infomartion like do you have an iCloud account and are you logged into it on all of your devices, iPhoto and Mac? do you have Photo Stream enabled on both.

  • Hi, after ugrading iphoto 9.3, all the photo are duplicated

    Hi,
I've got a big library (over 20.000 photo, 255 events), most of them are in raw (taken with d300 and d800). but after upgrading to iphoto 9.3, all the photo are duplicated.
i open the library with aperture 3, in aperture no duplicated photo and create a new library with the export functionnality. open this new library with iphoto, all the photo are duplicated. this is very annoying imagine the time spend to manage this library...
if i open the original library it says each time the iphoto detects inconsistency and ask to repare, accept, take around 20 minutes without errors, but nothing changes.
    need help, please... any idea?

    hi finally fixed :
    - open the corrupt library with aperture
    - export to a new library
    - open with iphoto
    - rebuild the library
    the photo aren't duplicated anymore
    - regenerate the thumbnails to repair manually the dead links
3 days of work for that and a hot mac...

  • I upgraded my iphotos and now all my photos are gone in all my albums.  How do I find them and put them back in? (1800 photos.)  Help.

I upgraded my iphotos and now all my photos are gone in all my albums. (1800 photos.) How do I find them
and put them back where they belong?

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
    Regards

  • If i backup my iphone on my laptop will it save all my photos in my apps when i restore it?

if i backup my iphone on my laptop will it save all my photos in my apps when i restore it?

Only photos taken with the phone are part of the backup, copied from: iTunes: About iOS backups
Camera Roll (Photos, screenshots, images saved, and videos taken. Videos greater than 2 GB are backed up with iOS 4.0 and later.)
Note: For devices without a camera, Camera Roll is called Saved Photos.

  • Iphotos has lost all my photos

Iphotos has lost all my photos, I've tried importing them from the libary but it keeps telling me it doesn't recognise it or the files can't be imported???? Ive also tried Iphone libary manager to retrieve the photos with no luck.

Sorry but you need to provide details
What version of iPhoto and of the OS? What recently changed?
With no information the only possible solution is to restore yoru backup from just before what ever happened happened

  • HT1229 how do i save all my photos in iPhoto to a USB?

How do I save and transfer all my photos in iPhoto to a USB?

Do you want to save the photos or your complete iPhoto Library?
To backup the library on an USB thumbsdrive, select it in the Finder and drag it to the icon of the thumbsdrive. Only make sure, the drive is formatted correctly. By default it will be formatted for windows systems and not MacOS Extended (Journaled) as required for photo libraries, see:  Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture or iPhoto.

  • IPhoto upgrade deleted all my photos - how do I restore them?

Hello, I have just upgraded my iPhoto and it appears that this has deleted all my iPhoto library. Any advice on how I can restore my old photos?? iPhoto appears to have started up as a new user and doesen't have any record of any or my photos or albumns.
    Many thanks

I also lost about 4000 photos, folders all empty, after putting older iphoto library onto external hard drive and opening it with updated iphoto.
found the photos  in the pictures folder (although anonymously as jpegs, have to open them to identify them) but how do i return them to iphoto? and why are the other 5000 photos still visible in iphoto?
when i open the package contents in the iphoto library on the external hard drive there is a folder called originals which has all the photos in, but iphoto seems not to be pointing to it.  hard to explain what i mean but basically the photos exist, i photo library doesnt see them, the other iphoto library on the computer that came with the upgraded version is fine.

  • How do I save all my photos in my iPhone to iCloud

I have a iPhone4 and also have an ipad I wanted to save all photos around some 700 pic's in my iPhone to iPad or to iCloud... Please help me guys....

Enabling photo stream on each device and adding all your photos to it will mean that the same photos are on each device, but you should think about some online storage such as dropbox or Flickr to keep your photos secure.

  • HT201077 How do I get my photo stream album in iPhoto to send all the photos to my iPhone's photo stream?

Looking to get all my photos from my mac's photo stream on to my iphone's photostream.

Add any photo stream photos in iPhoto that are not in photo stream on your phone to a shared stream and invite yourself as a subscriber, as explained here: http://help.apple.com/iphoto/mac/9.4/#pht5f6df5f0.

  • IPhoto has deleted all my photos

Help me please, all my photos got binned from iPhoto after the power ran out on my Macbook, I didnt intentionally let the power run out, i had scheduled it to shut down but it didnt for whatever reason. Once i got power to it and switched it on i didnt realise immediately but on connecting my iPod to transfere a pic their was nothing, ive been to forums and looked up for help but nothing has worked. Please help.

    l. I only have or had one (1) album of photos.
Do you mean by "album of photos" your iPhoto library or that you now are seeing only one album in your library?
Have you checked the obvious places for missing photos - looked into iPhoto's Trash, checked if Hidden Photos" are disabled in the "View" menu?
If your library is not showing all albums that should be there, try if repairing or rebuilding your iPhoto library will turn the photos up again, see Old Toad's post on how to do this:
         Rebuild iPhoto Version 11
If all this does not help,  then tell us please, what happened before your photos vanished.
    Did iPhoto crash?
Did you update software or install new software, that you used for the first time?
Did you move your iPhoto library somewhere else? To a new drive or cloud storage?
    Did you import new photos?
Did you delete any photos that were apparently not in iPhoto? For example with a cleaing and space-saving application. like Clean My Mac?

Perhaps you have more than one iPhoto Library?
What happens if you hold down the option key while lauching iPhoto?
Are you presented with more than one Library to choose from?
