Iphoto 11 sharpening tool crashing?
Please Help! I have Iphoto 11 version 9.2.2 on Mac Mini Snow Leopard 10.6.8
The sharpening tool consistently crashes the program and I am irritated! (to say the least) I go to use this most basic of all tools and BOOM! crazy colors in blocks jump on to the left side of my screen and I am locked out completely - only the spinning wheel of death moving about the screen. I have to do a hard shut down to get back control.
What is the problem? How can I fix this?
Signed,
Frustrated
Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file delete the contents the following folder:
User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

I am working on a book (theme: photo essay). I have a scanned image of an old photo which is fuzy. I try to use the sharpen tool. When I hold the track pad down to make an adjustment and then release the pad, the image is momentarily sharper then fades to its prior state. How can I get the sharp version to stay?

Sharpening tool is not working in library mode or export LR 4.4
I was editing phots when I suddenly realized that sharpening tool, neither the adjustment brush for sharpening or ordinary sharpening, would be shown in Library mode or when photos were exported. When I see the picture in Develop mode, they seem fine and I can adjust the sharpness as usual. So something goes wrong between Develop and Library mode.
I have Lightroom 4.4. The ISO level in the pictures are not high at all, so that is not the problem, as I have read some explanaitions of. When I see the picture in 1:1 in both modes, they look the same after sharpening. But if I zoom more, I can definately see big differences.
Can someone explain what is wrong? Is this a bug?
Thank you in advance.katarinagj wrote:
Aha, that explains the Library mode. Still can't see the changes in the exported pictures, though. Everything else works.
Are you running 4.1 or 4.1.1? Maybe that dot release will fix the issue if you're running an older version. And when you Export, do you have sharpening settings on there too? What about Edit In Photoshop command? Do you see the sharpening that way? -
In the iPhoto editing tools, what is the purpose of the tool "Definition". What is it used for? I did an iPhoto Book; a few photos were a little "off".
It quite literally adds definition to the photo. Don't ask my the technical procedure for this, but it makes more details visible in the photo.

Before removing iPhoto (latest update crashed the app), I accidently removed it from my purchased Apps from the App Store. I accept iPhoto when I search for it, but does not put it back in my list. How do I get this back so that I can reinstall iPhoto?
Thank you.I found the answer just after posted this. Thanks to a user named CloudWalker. Solution is to go in AppStore, View Account under "Store" Menu and unhide any purchases.

BI Administration Tool crashes in nqsdbgatewayodbc35.dll
Hi,
In the Oracle BI Administration Tool (v 11.1.1.5) we import metadata of an ODBC 3.5 datasource into the "Physical" layer. This works fine, but when I click to "View data..." on an ODBC table, the whole Administration Tool crashes with the following output: "*Unhandled exception at 0x6e9281ff in admintool.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00030028.*"
Note that the ODBC driver used is our custom implementation and it conforms to ODBC standard 3.5
When debugging the application at the moment where it crashes, the call stack is:
nqsdbgatewayodbc35.dll!6e9281ff()
[Frames below may be incorrect and/or missing, no symbols loaded for nqsdbgatewayodbc35.dll]
......the driver's debug symbols are loaded and it is obvious that the driver code is not directly involved in the crash.
Analyzing our driver's logfile, I can see that the tool crashes after calling SQLExecute() - which returns successfully - but before calling SQLFetch().
Even more interesting, if I remove some fields from the table in "Physical" layer and only leave numeric type fields, suddenly "View Data..." returns the table's content.
Anyone knows of a bug in nqsdbgatewayodbc35.dll which might cause this issue?
Does anyone have an idea of how to investigate this? A debug symbol file (.PDB) for the nqsdbgatewayodbc35 DLL doesn't seem to be available.
Where do I find the logfile for the BI Admin Tool? Can detailed logging be turned on?
Help or hints appreciated,
Thanks!
JurajHi Adil,
For one of our products - a position keeping system - we have an in-house ODBC driver through which business data can be extracted, e.g. for reporting purposes.

Iphoto, imovie, aperature crash after mountain lion update
All of my iPhoto, iMovie and recently purchased Aperature crash after updating to Mountain Lion. I tried reinstalling the programs
after update ( per apple phone tech support. Did not work same crash. I took my computer to the genius bar and he suggested
making multiple "smaller libraries" or Aperature to fix the problem. The smaller libraries got it to stop crashing but Faces reset, and
all the photos and events are all mixed up not the way I had organized them all.
So I tried Aperature for $80. It crashes worse than iPhoto. The genius bar told me Aperature is designed for Large libraries and
iPhoto is not. I have over 500Gb of Photos or 40,000+ pictures. I have read some of the forums looking for a solution but I'm trying to
figure out what is the best one? Preference files? Going with the multiple smaller libraries? Not Sure. Here are the first lines of the
crash report if someone can please help. Thank You

This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. -
Iphoto '08 is crashing at startup
Iphoto '08 is crashing at startup.
I get a message "do you still want to imort "5" pictures?" Yes or no? When I hit yes it crashes. When I started hitting "no" it would start up but now "no" crashes as well. All this started after upgrading to Leopard 10.5.1
Any ideas? TIAProblem solved:
Fix: Created a new iPhoto via option key on startup.
loaded a few pictures via camera.
Quit iPhoto and restarted holding the option key.
Selected my "corrupted" original Library and it opend with the same message " you have imports that are not loaded. Do you want to import?" I hit "Yes" and instead of crashing it proceeded to import photos I had dragged and dropped a few days ago. -

How to fix ??? -
When I try to create cut lists from FCP, Cinema Tools crashes. Two users posted a similar problem last year, which was never resolved.
FCP 5.1.4
CT 3.1
Any advice?Unless there is something corrupt in your install of FCP and CT, I would suspect there is a clip or two in your timeline that CT does not like. Do you have any nested items, or unorthodox effects (or maybe even a speed effect) applied to clips? Try a test with a single item in a timeline and see if the crashing persists. If this works successfully, then you need to work through your timeline and find the offending clip(s) that are causing the problems. Good luck!

Iphoto on yosemite crashes when trying to update old photo library
Hi there,
I have a Imac 24" from 2008 with 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB memory.
I just upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.1
The iphoto library was old so I downloaded the iphoto library upgrader as instructed and ran it on Iphoto Library (made a backup of the library first)
The upgrader said it would take a while to modify the library which is 38GB big but it completed within a minute or so (that was the first sign of trouble).
When launching Iphoto it opens, says the library needs to be upgraded and then immediately crashes.
We uninstalled and reinstalled Iphoto and the library upgrader, restored the iphoto library backup and the same thing happens again.
Any ideas?
Thank you.Iphoto runs if we remove the iphoto library and restart the application. At that point we can create a new library but we can't see our old photos or import them
It is a very good sign, that iPhoto can run with a new library.
That iPhoto is still crashing on your main library can mean two things - either the library has a corruption, or it contains image files, that cannot be processed.
Try, if you can rebuild your iPhoto library with iPhoto Library Manager. You can download it here:
http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ (the free trial version will suffice for this). It will create a copy of your library and relink the original files. Your original library will remain untouched. But rebuilding with iPhoto Library manager will not be able to save projects, like books, calendars, slideshows.
Read the help pages on the iPhoto Library Manager site:
Rebuilding a corrupted iPhoto library
And the full Help: http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/Help/table%20of%20contents.html
Make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
If there are corrupted image files, this will not work. Then you will have to retrieve the original image files from your iPhoto library. -
IPhoto 11 keeps crashing when opening
Hello
My iphoto 11 keeps crashing when I open. I have over a 10GB library and have tried to repair all options when doing the option/command and have upgraded the latest fix for the program. This all started with icloud and when moving photos to photo stream. I am running OSX Lion completly updated. This is extremely frustrating.See Logs

How do I fix iphoto when it crashes every time i try to import
How do I fix iphoto when it crashes every time i try to import
By doing stuff.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
