IPhoto 11 smaller resolution?

After I imported my entire library from a back up (migrating to new iMac) I noticed that every photo in that library is now low resolution (It down rezzed every photo in my library) and the full res version doesn't appear to exist anywhere on my new system. Thank god I kept the old backup. When I was importing the library, I was never prompted or asked anything about resolution. Is there anyway to re-import this library and force iPhoto to keep a full resolution copy of each photo?

You do not ever "Import" an iPhoto library into another iPhoto library - you simply make sure that the old library is in the pictures folder and launch iPhoto - it finds it where it is suppose to be and opens it converting as required
Drag your current bad iPhoto library to the desktop, restore the old one to the pictures folder, be sure iPhoto is up to data (version 9.1 as I write this) and launch iPhoto - from there on it is automatic

I am new to apple software having worked with microsoft all these years. The switch was mainly for my photographs. Iphotos seemed to have changed all digital albums from jpeg to tiff format hence the very small resolution. Can anyone out there please help me recover these photos to origianal format???
    Thanks

Gosh I am already tired of trying to retrieve this photo album and it seems like a waste of time and money spent on an apple IMac.
No disrespect intended but until you learn how iPhoto and Macs work you will continue to be confused and frustrated.
You say you want to create a book in iPhoto and have it printed by Apple, right.  Have you finished creating  the book in iPhoto? If so the Control (right) - click in the View all pages window background and select Save Book as  PDF in the contextual menu?
Open the the PDF file with Preview and check for any errors or problems.  If there are none you can order the book by clicking oin the Buy Book button at the bottom. Save the pdf file to compare with the printed book when it arrives in you feel there's a problem with it.  That's all you need to do.  There's no use of the Finder required.

  • IPhoto Picture Resolution Sizes.

I am wondering if someone can help?
Is it posible for a picture resolution to reduce when stored in iPhoto, either by diliberate means or otherwise?
When reviewing my photos I feel they have smaller resolutions than when downloaded from the camera.
    Could this be possible?
    Many Thanks.

    colin:
Thumbnails will be 360 x 270 pixels in size and you can check that right in iPhoto's Info pane at the bottom of the Source window.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Back up issue - photos saving in smaller resolution???

I am using a WD 'My Book for Mac' external drive on my mac. I have noticed that photo files are backing up in a much smaller resolution (e.g. 50kb vs the 2mb original). I can't seem to locate a full size on the WD drive. Any tips as I would hate to lose the drive and find all that I have backed up is effectively a thumbnail of all my photos.
    Thanks in advance.

What version of iPhoto are you using and how did you move, copy or export them to the External HD.

  • Smaller resolution for AMD Radeon R5

I have a Satellite C55D-B5310 with the AMD Radeon R5 Graphics adapter running Windows 8.1
The driver version is 13.352.1004.1008, which I believe is the latest.
The finest resolution (which is recommended by Toshiba) is 1366x768.
I would prefer to use a smaller resolution: 1440x900 (or smaller) since I work on spreadsheets which contain many columns and the web pages I visit often now require that I scroll more frequently.
Is there a way to obtain a screen resolution so that I can display smaller objects on my laptop screen?

No. The native resolution is a property of the flat-panel display.
Your AMD Radeon R5 should be able to supply a higher resolution to an external monitor attached via the RGB or HDMI port.

  • My iPhone 5 has started to take small resolution photos

My iPhone 5 has started to take small resolution photos (640x852) using the standard camera app (back camera, not the low res front camera)), how do I get back to the original large resolution photos it used to take? Thanks Natasha.

    Problem solved, see post:

  • Starting a project:Edit a smaller resolution, enlarge later.How do I set up

I'm beginning a project, editing FCP on MBP (a new 15" that won't take an eSATA card). The files are 1080s, but they are choking things (my external drive is a FW 800).
I just can't go out and get a Mac Pro with eSATA at this point, so can I edit at a smaller resolution and then if need be change it later? Or is there some smarter (and less half-assed) way to do this.
    Thanks,

I generally bring files as I need them, not all at once. Would I have to import everything at once up front? That would be hard
During my entire editing career, which spans 12 years, I have never only imported things when I needed them. If something was shot for what I am working on, I import it. It helps when looking for shots.
If I were bringing things in as I got to each section, how would I manage that?
You would go "oh, I need this," and then convert the footage you need and bring that in. But if you are doing offline/online, in this instance, it would be far easier, more error free, if you just brought it all in.

  • IPhoto imports pictures in small resolution!

This issue wasn't happening until a couple of weeks. When connecting my iPhone 4 to the computer and starting iPhone to import my photos, the result files are smaller than the original files. The information consigned in the iPhoto panel is that my pictures are 2592 x 1936 px. The final output is 360 x 269 px.
Any ideas of what's happening? What can I do to solve it?

Try importing photos from Applications --> Image Capture. Does it occur if you email the photos using the 'Actual Size option?'...is it new photos or old photos too?

  • IPhoto picture resolution issue

    Hi,
I've sync'd several iPhoto libraries (I have multiples) but am seeing many of the photos display in what looks like blown up thumbnails rather than full resolution photos. These are full 10mp images at 3600x2700 in iPhoto. The problem is that it's inconsistent. Some photos look great and some don't.
What could account for the difference?
    Thanks,

    G4 Dual 867   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

There are several issues at work here. Which all seem to stem from this being an ipod with better video than a settop mac.
First the apple TV displays a max resolution of 720p (not 1080) for videos and photos alike.
Second when the photos are synced their resolution is reduced to have a max of 720 pixels vertical resolution - I'm not sure but there is an apple photo database in the pictures folder that looks like it contain these versions of the pictures.
The photos are then displayed by the apple TV and if you set it to 1080 it blows up the smaller images to fit the screen. From what I've seen any portrait pictures look OK (because they aren't blown up) but landscape photos look like crap. this may not be as noticeable if you use ken burns effect because it doesn't appear to blow up the picture when it uses this.
We purchased this primarily to show our photos in hi res on our 1080p tv, its a big disappointment and will be going back. Get a mac mini instead!

  • Iphoto low-resolution issue

When making a book in Iphoto, iphoto does not say photos are low-resolution until after I go to assemble the book? So I have to go back and fix each photo individually after trying to assemble the book

  • IMac 27-inch with - Black borders around smaller resolutions

    Hey,
Back with Boot Camp 3.0, I've had problems with the color depth. It said 32-bit while it appeared to be 16-bit. Now it's been fixed with Boot Camp 3.1.
However, I have an even more annoying problem now. I can't use the native resolution of my display because things are way too small on it. So I'm using the classic 1080p (1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz) resolution. Problem is, my computer is STILL in 2560 x 1440, and I see Windows 7 occupying 1920 x 1080 pixels, centered vertically and horizontally in the middle of my screen. Around it, there's huge black borders.................
I have a Radeon 4850 by the way. I read somewhere that it had to do with having two monitors, but never installed another monitor on this computer.
I've tried installing and reinstalling and uninstalling a bunch of official and non-official drivers from ATI. I guess I still haven't found the good one... or I haven't found the good option in Windows that fixes this.
Any idea? I know I'm not the only one with this problem, but I haven't found much information on the web about that.

    Hi,
using the ATI Catalyst Control Center (usually part of the downloadable Catalyst Driver Suite) should provide an option in the Display properties to use lower than native resolutions 'stretched' (without the black borders).
    http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx
Before installing drivers, it is always recomended to make a System restore Point and/or have a backup to revert back easily in case of troubles.
Also you should remove all remnants of older or other drivers using either the Windows "Software" option, a provided uninstaller or DriverSweeper.

  • IPhoto book - resolution questions

What resolution should I use to scan in my printed 4x6 photos to get the best result from iPhoto book? Is 300 ppi sufficient, or should I use 400 or higher? Don't want to scan higher than needed since the files are quite large. Don't know what the resolution is of the printer used by Apple.
Also, is it still the case that I should make sure photos are first cropped to 4x3 for best results? I have the latest version of iLife 5.
    Thanks for advice!
    Tara

Jeff - thanks so much for your reply - very helpful. I'm scanning them all in at 600 dpi to give me options of printing some large.
Another question - does anyone have experience with making photo albums from other programs/services? Are they all about the same in terms of quality? From the few I've checked out, they all look pretty much the same (as advertised) so I'm guessing they are using similar printers/processes and that quality would be about the same. In which case, I can go ahead and be confident that even though I will use iPhoto book because I am a die-hard Mac user and iPhoto is so easy to use, I'm not losing out on a better quality book that might be available through another software/service.
Thanks again for advice - can't wait to make my first iPhoto album of pre-digital camera baby pics for my now 6-year old. I made one for my boss last year that came out great but all the pics came from digital cameras.

  • Resizing my video to a smaller resolution

    Greetings.
I would like to ask for help in regards to changing my videos resolution to a smaller one.
Currently it's NTSC and I would like to alter it so I can upload video online but I don't know exactly how to do this.
If somebody can please offer assistance, I would really appreciate your help.
With what I currently have, can I load up my project in Premiere and make the changes there, or do I need to start all over again? I've been poking around online looking for any tutorials I can find, but so far I haven't been able to find what I need in order to do this.
    Thank you.

  • Recovered IPhoto's resolution issues

    Hi everyone.
After purchasing Data rescue II and attempting to recover lost photos from my IPhoto, it appears that the resolution of quite a few of them is poor, to say the least. Any idea why this is the case? Some of the photos are perfect, but more are less than - to the point of being quite blurry. I don't want to have to have spent $100 for a program that got me nowhere...Is there a fox? Quick or otherwise?
    Thanks,
    dave

    ocwaveoc:
Yes, iPhoto doesn't render the thumbnail files very well. It tends to over-soften them due to the antialiasing it performs. I can't speak to the RAW side of things. Have you looked into iView MediaPro. It handles RAW and is an excellent image management tool.
